课时作业(三十三)选修⑦Unit 3Under the seaⅠ.阅读理解A[2019·南昌市重点中学段考]In high school I was very shy, content to hang around with my small group of friends and concentrate on my courses. I was quickly regarded as a “brain”. I did so well that by the end of the senior year I had perfect grades and enough credits to give up an entire quarter of coursework. But in early June of the senior year, the principal called me into his office. He asked me to give a speech at graduation. I gaped (目瞪口呆地凝视) at him, my heart thumping. This was the reward for my hard work?I mumbled something and fled the office, blaming myself for staying away from physics, a subject sure to have ruined my perfect record.I finally agreed to a promise. I would share the honor with five other students. And my friend Judy would then give her own, full-length speech.Graduation day soon arrived. I'd been practicing my speech for days, and I had it memorized. The first half hour of the ceremony passed in a blur, and then my moment came. My name was announced. I managed to reach the podium (讲台) without falling down. I faced my classmates. My voice trembled a little, but mostly it was clear and strong. But within seconds, I was done and headed back to my seat. I acplished something I'd never dreamed of — I spoke in front of hundreds of people.Although I didn't realize it at the time, the successful pletion of that speech gave me the confidence to participate in class at college, to give verbal reports, and to eventually break free from my shyness. I never would have chosen to give a speech at graduation ever. But I'm glad I did.I no longer hesitate when I'm faced with the prospect of doing something I dread. I know it may very well turn out to be one of my shining moments.

阅读理解(xx·河南省新野县三中月考)New research has revealed that which song drivers listen to can influence how safe they are on the roads. Among the top ten safest songs to drive to are e Away With Me by Norah Jones, I Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith and Tiny Dancer by Elton John. Each of the songs has an optimum tempo (最佳节奏) for safe driving, imitating the human heartbeat at around 60 to 80 beats per minute. The Scientist by Coldplay and Justin Timberlake's Cry Me a River also appeared in the top 10.The study, conducted at London Metropolitan University, also revealed the type of songs that cause motorists to drive dangerously. Unsurprisingly, music that is noisy increases a driver's heart rate, which can be deadly. Fast beats cause excitement that can lead people to concentrate more on the music than on the road and to speed up to match the beat of the song. Styles of music were also measured during the experiment and revealed differences between male and female drivers. Hiphop made a female driver drive far more aggressively, speeding up faster than male driver. The heavy metal music caused the fastest driving among males in the group while the dance music had the same effect among women. The male and female driverswho listened to the classical music drove the most irregularly. The experiment involved eight people driving 500 miles each using the confused MotorMate app, which monitored driving behaviors through GPS technology.1.What's the main idea of the whole passage?A.Songs that drivers prefer to listen to on their way.B.A study made by the confused MotorMate app.C.What kind of songs the drivers should choose to listen to during driving.D.Female drivers and male drives have different responses to the same music.2.The underlined word “monitored” in the last paragraph means ________.A.controlled B.bannedC.modeled D.showed3.Which of the following statements is NOT true?A.Tiny Dancer by Elton John appeared in the top 10.B.Usually human hearts beat at around 60 to 80 beats per minute.C.The classical music makes most drivers drive fortably and safely.D.The passage reveals appropriate music and improper music for drivers.4.If there is another paragraph in the end of the passage, the author may mention ________.A.female and male drivers' popular tastes of musicB.how did the study carry outC.why fast beat music is harmful to driversD.some music with optimum tempo for drivers to enjoy答案与解析一项最新研究显示,开车时收听的歌曲选择可能会影响驾驶安全程度。

课时提升作业三十三选修7Unit 3Under the sea(限时35分钟)Ⅰ. 阅读理解ASixty-four-year-old Pierre Deom has spent his entire life close to the woods and fields that he loves. Twice a year, his magazine, La Hulotte, focuses on an animal or plant native to the French countryside. The 100th edition was published in November. The magazine counts more than 150, 000 subscribers in many countries, and is doing very well financially. Deom says it all began in January 1972, when he was teaching science in a one-room schoolhouse here. “It upset me how the forests and swamps were beginning to be ruined. The word ‘ecology’ (生态学) didn’t really exist yet. Some friends and I wanted to call attention to the issue. So we said, let’s educate the kids. They’re ready to hear our message. ” So he took a step into the unknown, planning to publish his nature journal.Deom does all the research and writing and the illustrations (插图) of the magazine by hand. He combines science and humor in his writing and drawing to describe the daily life and sufferings of his creatures. Animalsyou might overlook or consider dull are magically and vividly brought to life in La Hulotte. “I try to write about animals and plants that are ea sy to find because I want kids to put on boots, take a magnifying glass, go to the woods and fields to observe and be amazed by what they find, ” Deom says. And it seems to work. Biologist Jerome Fournier began subscribing to La Hulotte when he was just eight years old. “For me it was the first contact with nature when I was a child. And maybe it’s the beginning for my life of scientist. I think so. ”What’s amazing is its approach. You can read it as an adult or a child; it can be understood on two different levels. So scientists, regular people and children all get something out of it. “It’s extraordinary. ” Fournier says, who works at the Museum of Natural History in Paris, where he says La Hulotte has a crazy following.【文章大意】文章介绍了Pierre Deom创办的提高人们生态意识的吸引人的杂志La Hulotte.1. The latest research indicates that men’s hearts going into a rapid decline when they reach middle age could be the cause. The research of ageing on the heart has shown that women’s longevity may be linked to the fact that their hearts do not lose much pumping power with age.“We have found that the power of the male heart falls by 20 percent~25 percent between 20 and 70 years of age,”said the head of the study,Samantha of Liverpool John Moores University in the UK.“Within the heart there are millions of cells which make it beat.Between the ages of 20 and 70,one-third of those cells die and are not replaced in men,” said Samantha.“This is part of the ageing process.”What amazes scientists is that the female heart suffers very little loss of these cells.A healthy 70-year-old woman’s heart could work almost as perfectly as a 20-year-old one’s.“This gender (性别) difference might give the reason why men live shorter than women,”said Samantha. They studied over 250 healthy men and women between the ages of 17 and 80,who are mainly healthy persons so as to reduce the influence of disease.“The team has yet to think about why ageing suffers a greater loss on the male heart,” said Samantha. But there is also good news-men can enjoy the health of their hearts with regular exercise.Samantha stressed that women should also take regular exercise to stop their leg muscles getting weaker as they age.1.The underlined word “longevity” in the second paragraph means “________”.A.health B.long lifeC.ageing D.effect2.The text mainly talks about________.A.men’s heart cellsB.women’s ageing processC.the gender differenceD.hearts and long life3.According to the text, the UK scientists have known that________.A.men have fewer cells than women when they are bornB.women can produce the cells that make the heart beatC.the female heart suffers less loss of the cells with ageD.women will never suffer the loss of pumping power with age4.If you want to live a long life, you should________.A.enable your heart to beat much fasterB.think about the reason for ageingC.take regular exerciseD.stop your cells from being lostB(2012·河南质量调研)At a physics conference dinner with myhusband Alex,I sat next to a man I’ll call Clayton.Clayton kept talkingabout himself all through the entire conversation:he had solved problemsno one else could;only his views were right;other researchers’work wasinaccurate or unimportant.I could not put in a word.Extremely annoyed,I planned to avoid Clayton in the future. In fact,I decided never to have another conversation with him.A few days later I was in an education class. Our professor explained how one child could become the target of the other students’ ridicule (讥笑).“Usually it’s because the class sees their own weaknesses glaringly magnified (放大) in that student. They don’t want to admit they have the same weakness,so they ridicule and exclude the student. The behavior of both the class and the excluded student is caused by personal insecurity.”As I took notes, suddenly I thought of Clayton. It struck me that I have many of the same faults. How easily I rule a conversation and leave others out.I,too, sometimes feel that only my opinion is right. My concerns or work easily seems most important. As my professor had described,I reacted negatively to someone in whom I experienced my own weakness.I changed my mind.Instead of avoiding Clayton,I’ll try to listen patiently with the same kindness and acceptance that I need.5.The writer was extremely annoyed with Clayton partly because________.A.he said not all his views were rightB.he wouldn’t let her put in a wordC.he kept silent all through the dinnerD.he was too particular about the food6.Who said the words in Paragraph 3?A.Clayton.B.The writer’s husband.C.The writer.D.The writer’s professor.7.The fourth paragraph was written to show________.A.why the writer changed her mindB.how the writer was annoyedC.when the writer had her educationD.what weakness the writer had8.We can infer from the last paragraph that________.A.the writer will see other people more positivelyB.Clayton will not rule a conversation any longerC.the writer will try to avoid talking with ClaytonD.Clayton will find out he has his own weaknessⅢ.情景对话Husband:Hi,darling,I’m home.Wife: _____ 1_____Husband:Well,just as usual.Wife: Come on,I’ve known you for years.Y our face tells me something has happened.Husband:Is that so?Wife: _____ 2_____Tell me,what happened?Husband:Guess!Wife:Y ou’re promoted?Husband:_____ 3_____Wife:Y ou got a raise?Husband:Right! It is caused mainly by industrial underwater explosions, ocean drilling, and ship engines. Such noises are added to natural sounds. These sounds include the breaking of ice fields, underwater earthquakes, and sounds made by animals themselves.Decibels (分贝) measured in water are different from those measured on land. A noise of one hundred and twenty decibels on land causes pain to human ears. In water, a decibel level of one hundred and ninety-five would have the same effect. Some scientists have proposed setting a noise limit of one hundred and twenty decibels in the oceans. They have observed that noises at that level can frighten and confuse whales.A team of American and Canadian scientists discovered that louder noises can seriously injure some animals. The research team found that powerful underwater explosions were causing whales in the area to lose their hearing. This seriously affected the whales' ability to exchange information and find their way. Some of the whales even died. The explosions had caused their ears to bleed and become infected. Many researchers whose work depends on ocean sounds object to a limit of one hundred and twenty decibels. They say such a limit would mean an end to important industrial and scientific research.Scientists do not know how much and what kinds of noises are harmful to ocean animals. However, many scientists suspect that noise is a greater danger than they believed. They want to prevent noises from harming creatures in the ocean.16.According to the passage, which of the following is increasingly dangerous to sea creatures?A.The sound of cars.B.The sound of voices.C.Man-made noise pollution.D.The sound of steps.17.According to the passage, natural sounds include all of the following EXCEPT________.A.sounds made by animals themselvesB.ocean drillingC.underwater earthquakesD.the breaking of ice fields18.Which of the following is discussed in the third paragraph?A.The same noise level produces a different effect on land and in the ocean.B.Different places may have different types of noises.C.The decibel is not a suitable unit for measuring underwater noise.D.Different ocean animals may have different reactions to noises.19.Which of the following is true of whales?A.They won't be confused by noises.B.They are deaf to noises.C.Their ability to reproduce will be lowered by high-level noises.D.Their hearing will be damaged by high-level noises.20.According to the passage, what will scientists most probably do in the future?A.They will work hard to reduce ocean noise pollution.B.They will protect animals from harmful noises.C.They will try to set a limit of 120 decibels.D.They will study the effect of ocean noise pollution.BThe sea has always interested man. From it we can get food, minerals, and treasure. For thousands of years, we could sail on it. But we could not go far beneath its surface. Man wants to explore deep into the sea. However,we are not fish. We must breathe air, so we can't stay under the water's surface for any length of time. To explore deep water, man faces even more dangers and problems. A diver who wants to stay under water for more than a few minutes must breathe air or a special mixture of gases. He can wear a diving suit and have air pumped to him from above. He can carry a tank of air on his back and breathe through a nose and a mouthpiece. Water weighs 800 times as much as air. Tons of water pushes against a diver deep in the sea. His body is under great pressure. When a diver is under great pressure, his blood takes in some of the gases he breathes. As he rises to surface, the water pressure becomes less. If the diver rises too quickly, the gases in his blood form bubbles. The diver is then suffering from the bends. The bends can cause a diver to double up in pain. They can even kill him.21.On the whole, this passage is about________.A.special mixtures of gases in deep seaB.the problems man faces in deep-sea divingC.air pressure under the surface of sea waterD.a kind of illness that man suffers in the sea22.A diver's body in deep water________.A.is under great pressureB.is just like that of a fishC.suffers from the bendsD.weighs very little23.The passage does not say so, but it makes you think that________.A.deep divers should be in good healthB.divers explore the deep sea only for treasureC.diving under the water too quickly causes a kind of illnessD.there is a special mixture of gases under the sea24.Why does a diver get the bends?A.He tries to do exercise under the water.B.His diving suit weighs too much.C.He comes to the surface too quickly.D.The air in his blood is used up.25.From the passage we can see that________.A.the sea began to interest man in the last few yearsB.man is not at home deep in the seaC.all divers will get the bends sooner or laterD.the air in the sea water will kill a diver if he is not careful答案课时作业(三十三)Ⅰ.1.C考查副词辨析。

test called the KeirseyPersonality Sorter. It is an attempt to discover how people solve problems, rather than what they know. This is often called an aptitude test (能力倾向测验).According to Mark Baldwin many job applicants in China are finding this type of questions difficult. When a Chinese person fills out an aptitude test he or she will think there is a right answer and they may fail because they try to guess what the examiner wants to see. This is sometimes called the prisoner’s dilemma.Applicants are trying to act cleverly in their own interest. But they fail because they don’t understand what the interviewer is looking for.Remember that in an aptitude test, the correct answer is always the honest answer.1.The writer wrote the passage to________.A.give you a piece of advice on a job 答案:B二、阅读理解AThe rainy season is approaching in Indonesia, and that indicates trouble ahead. In normal times, the average car on Jakarta’s streets crawls at a speed of 8.3 kilometers an hour.To make things worse, when it rains, traffic can stand still for hours as people try to move cars and b uses deep in water.By some estimates the traffic jams on Jakarta’s str eets cost as much as $1.4 billion a year in idle hours wasted away. There are other problems besides the crowding—the city is badly polluted,it has trouble finding clean water and because it is on wet land near the ocean,it is easily affected by rising ocean levels. So President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono last year called for a study on moving the capital away from this city.Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo is not convinced that the idea will improve conditions in the country’s largest city.“I would be happy if some of the central government departments could be moved outside Jakarta, but it doesn’t mean that the problems of Jakarta would be lessened,”Bowo said. The city does not have enough roads to offer its commuters, and its bad infrastructure(基础设施)adds to the st month,a stretch of highwa y collapsed, causing a traffic jam that lasted hours near the country’s main harbor. But an urban planning expert Marco Kusumawijaya says moving the capital from the city is not the solution.“At the most, there are only 350,000 public servants, and I think maybe 10 or 15 percent of them are using cars.So I think it is a false opinion in the sense that it is not based on the actual causes of traffic jam that we want to solve,”he said.Indonesia’s first president,Sukarno, thought of moving the capital to Palangkaraya,a city on Borneo Island. That was in the 1950s,long before Jakarta had a traffic problem.Palangkaraya was an option for several reasons:it sits inthe heart of the isles, away from earthquake areas and the densely populated island of Java, where most of the population and the economic and political powers are located. The government later considered another city on Java. But neither plan moved forward.Palangkaraya is back in the runn ing today to become Indonesia’s next capital. The government, however,is weighing the cost of a move—which could top $11 billion dollars, against the cost of improving Jakarta’s infrastructure.由于印尼首都雅加达的人口众多,交通拥挤以及由此带来的相应的问题导致“迁都”的呼声越来越高。
