Boys like to be considered to be brave, but what kind of things can be considered to be brave? It is not a question that can be answered by words, but by the actual deed. A boy with the name Henry gave us a good example. Ronny and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played together and went home together. One day as Ronny and Henry were going home after school, they saw some people fighting in the street corner. Ronny said excitedly, “Some people ar e fighting! Let's go and have a look!” But Henry refused, “It's none of our business. We'd better go home and don't get close to them. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together at home and I don't want them to worry about me.”“You are a coward, and afraid to go,” said Ronny, and off he ran to the spot with some other boys. Henry had to go home alone and didn't think about it anymore. But Ronny thought Henry was a coward and told all the boys that. They laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down upon Henry and didn't want to play with him.Henry was sad but he wasn't angry with Ronny for his rude behavior, because he had learned that true courage was shown most in bearing misunderstanding when it was not deserved, and that he ought to beafraid of nothing but doing wrong. Thus, he just ignored the other boys' laughter and continued to stick to his thought and go to school and study as well. However, Ronny didn't invite Henry to go home with him anymore. Instead, he had his new friends who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn't go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had lots of fun.注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2. 续写部分分为两段,每段开头语已为你写好;Paragraph 1:A few days later, something terrible happened to Ronny. __________ Paragraph 2:At that moment, Henry happened to pass by.______________________ 原文解析be considered to be brave? One afternoon after school, Ronny was swimming with some of his new friends in the river as usual. Laughing and talking loudly, they were having great fun. All of a sudden, Ronny got stuck in the mud and couldn't move. He struggled to get out but all in vain. Like a duck in a thunderstorm, he screamed for help. All his new friends who also had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could. Scared to death, they did not even try to help him at all.Paragraph 2:At that moment, Henry happened to pass by. He heard the screams and rushed to the river without any hesitation.Seeing Ronny was almost drowned, Henry jumped into the water without second thought. He reached out his hand to Ronny just as he was sinking. With great effort, and neglecting the danger to himself, he brought Ronny back to the shore. Exhausted but delighted, Henry saved his friend. With tears of gratitude welling up in his eyes, Ronny apologized to Henry,“You are my true friend. You are the bravest man ”英语读后续写(二)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完成的故事。

I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought. That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car. Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face. "We made it," he said.Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message: "Out of order. Sorry."注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。

The four mountain climbers were still breathing heavily as they looked out into the distance. The views from the top of the mountain were breathtaking. In all directions, valleys, forests and other mountains were laid out before them. They could even see the small wooden houses of the village where they had spent the night and the route they had taken to reach the top of this small but dangerous mountain. Laughing loudly, they were surprised at their courage in climbing such a steep and rocky mountain slope. Filled with an enormous sense of achievement, the four young climbers patted each other on the back.As the other three continued to enjoy the views, Jason, the leader of the group, stared at the horizon with a troubled look on his face.“What is it, Jason?” Sofia, the youngest of the group, asked.“Those dark clouds in the distance mean a heavy storm is fast on the way,” Jason replied. He remembered the villagers had warned him of the unpredictable weather conditions on top of the mountain and that a terrible storm could appear from nowhere.“But it's so warm and sunny here. I don't think the storm is coming this way,” Sofia said, more in hope than expectation. However, Jason feared the worst and knew only too well what would happen if the storm caught them in the open. He addressed the group in a calm but serious tone, “If the storm hits us, the temperature will fall dramatically. The rain and mist will make it difficult for us to see where we are going and we could easily get lost or fall off a cliff. The wind will take our strength, so we need to get moving fast.”The four mountain climbers packed up their facilities and immediately started back down the mountain. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the storm was upon them sooner than expected. The wind screamed in their ears, the driving rain stung (刺痛) their eyes and the mist made it impossible for them to see clearly.注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

During this past year, I*ve had three instances of car trouble. Each time these things happened, I was sick of the way most people hadn't bothered to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the road for close to three hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said NEEDAJACK (千斤顶),and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a Mexican family in a small truck pulled over, and the father bounded out.He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed trough her that he had a jack but that it was too small for the Jeep, so we would need something to support it. Then he got a saw (锯子)from the truck and cut a section out of a big log on the side of the road. We rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business.I stared taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries: He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was back in 15 minutes. We finished the job, and I was a very hoDuv man.The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 bill in the man*s hand, but he wouldn't take it, so instead I went up to the truck and give it to his wife as quietly as I could, I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit farm for the next few weeks. Then they would go home.注意:1.所续写的短文词数应为150左右;2.应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语;3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已经为你写好;4.续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词。

Surprisingly, he comforted me that everything was OK since he had known how anxious I was. After we said goodbye to each other, I rushed to the queue. Fortunately, I didn't miss the whole arrangements for the conference.Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. Therefore, we made a deal to meet at the bus station. When we met, I extended my gratitude for his trust in me, gave him the fare and tipped him another sum of money. Satisfied, he gave me a thumbs-up, praised me a lot for my honesty and also thanked me for the tip, but I told him that he deserved it. Iquietly said, "David, if you don't want to run today, no one is going to make you do. But if you're not running because you're afraid someone is going to laugh, that's not a good enough reason. There will always be someone who will laugh and say mean words. There are people like that, and that's just the way it is. The real question is whether you are going to let those few people stop you from doing something you really want to do. Are you going to let them get in your way If you really want to run, David, then you run!" I held my breath as David took this in. Then he looked at the field and said with fierce but quiet determination, "I'm going to run."I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. The starter's gun sounded, and David lurched forward with the other children. But he had only gone a few metres before he tripped and fell flat on the ground. My heart sank. As I started to shout encouragement, other voices around me appeared too. David picked himself up and started again. This was David's run. He had worked for it, and he wouldn't give up! At last, he raised his arms in triumph as he crossed the finish line to wild cheers and applause. At the end of the year, the track coach asked the class to nominate one of their classmates for the athletic award for their grade. My wife and I never had a green thumb when it came to keeping plants alive far more than a few weeks. So, when I was diagnosed with cancer we didn’t even think about adding a plant to our small apartment. But one day, my friend stopped by and gave us a beautiful plant as a gift, insisting that it would bring life to our home and a sense of calmness during this difficult time.Surprisingly, the plant took off and grew beautifully, and it brought a sense of joy to our home that we desperately needed. Tending to the plant gave me a sense of accomplishment at a time when I sometimes felt useless.I am a physician, and taking care of the plant made me feel like a caregiver once again. It was nice to be able to nurture something and watch it grow. Since my diagnosis in August 2018,far too often, it seemed, I had to rely on help from other people. The enormous change left me feeling aimless and unsettled. Watering the plant, as small an act as it was, connected me to a core part of my old identity. Plants and people could still depend on me.For the next few months, I was recovering from surgery and receiving radiation. Despite my ongoing treatments, we found some peace through tending to the plant. The simple act of watering and watching it grow gave us something to focus 4 outside of my health. It became a small but meaningful part of our lives. Then, mysteriously, it began to show signs of losing liveliness.____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________As I became less anxious, I began to search online for how to care for my plant.____________________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________【答案】Then, mysteriously, it began to show signs of losing liveliness. I increased my plant watering, and then decreased it. Still, the leaves kept browning and dropping to the floor. I grew more and more frustrated and uneasy. The thought that I couldn’t even care for a simple plant started to haunt me like a shadow. For the past few months, a bond had been built between me and the plant. I couldn’t shake the feeling that if the plant died, I might too. Having seen through my heart and sensed my fear, my wife comforted me, “Honey, your treatment is working well and maybe the plant just needs its.” Her words did make sense and settled my nerves. As I became less anxious, I began to search online for how to care for my plant. Following the instructions, I transplanted the tree to a larger pot, giving its roots more room to grow and buried some solid plant nutrient under the top layer of the earth. Soon, we both began to thrive again. Whenever I look at the tree with its shinny and lush leaves in its new pot, I make it a point to appreciate my wife and the other people who have cared for and supported me. If the plant outlives me, I hope it will inspire my wife to live her life to the fullest.【导语】本文以作者的照顾植物为线索展开,作者患癌症后,朋友送了一盆植物,给作者带来平静的感觉,而且在照顾植物的过程中,作者找到了被依靠的感觉,在作者手术恢复期照顾植物成了作者生活中的一部分。

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice. What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them. When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.”I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Tony and I were in our school basketball team, the Lions. We loved basketball and were both huge fans of the NBA.When we weren’t playing on the court, we were watching a game on TV. My favourite player was LeBron James while Tony’s was Tyrone Bogues.Bogues was only 1.6 metrest all, which made him the shortest player ever in the NBA.Guess what? Tony was only 1.6metrest all, too! Tony knew that being shorter than other players meant that he had to practise more. During all those hours of doing jump shots on his own, he used Bogues as his inspiration. Tony once said, “If Bogues could make it, why not me?”But our coach was not so sure. Tony had to tryout many times just for making the team. He was still usually on the bench(场边休息区), being just a replacement. Everyone knew Tony had real skills, and was someone who worked really hard and had a strong desire to play for the team. However, Tony didn’t get a chance. This week, the Lions were playing our main competitors, the Bears, a team whose record this season had been perfect. They hadn’t lost a single game. The last quarter began, and my team was behind by 10 points. Suddenly, a player and I crashed into each other. Pain raced through my body. My knee hurt badly. “I don’t think I can play anymore, coach,” I said quietly as the doctor put an icepack on my knee.“No way,” the coach replied sharply. “We’ve got no more players!”注意:1.续写词数应为100左右;2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

My heart beat wildly as I stared at my phone screen. I re-read the message from my friend Jane. Someone had upset her by sharing her personal news: she had been refused by her dream school. Jane had shared the sad news with only a few people. She didn’t know who let the word out, but she was really hurt and disappointed.I felt so bad. I knew how the news had gotten out because I had been the one to tell someone beyond her closest friends. Honestly, I hadn’t realized she meant to keep it so close to only a few in the first place, but at the same time I’d known it wasn’t a good idea when I started to tell it to someone else.Did she really not know it was me? It would have been easy to admit what I had done and apologize if her message put the blame, specifically, on me. But it read as though it had been copied and sent to several people. Once again ignoring the right choice, I chose the coward’s (懦夫) way out instead.“I’m so sorry for what happened to you,” I typed. “How awful that your confidence was broken!”I hoped that would work. Her reply came back within seconds: “Thank you.”“It would be okay for me to remain anonymous (匿名), wouldn’t’t it?”I thought to myself. But, deep down, I knew I’d been the one to break faith and hurt her. I was ashamed, not only of my original action, but also because I’d taken a further step in the wrong direction by covering it up.I felt painful at church on Sunday, sitting in silence all the time. Later, the speaker asked us to examine ourselves and see if anything stood in the way of holding on to our faith.注意:1. 续写词数应150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

The rain came down steady and hard. Jason Storie heard it but was not worried as he prepared for a day of caving with five friends in a remote spot 80 miles northwest of his home in Duncan, on Canada’s Vancouver Island. It was 6 a.m. on December 5, 2015. As a newcomer to the sport, Jason had gone caving only four times. This would be his toughest outing yet: a cave called Cascade. It was dangerous enough that the entrance was blocked by a locked metal door to keep the casual cavers out. About a mile long and 338 feet deep,Cascade was full of tums and barely passable tight squeezes.Jason was new among the group, with the least experience and, at 43, older by a decade or more. It was his friend Andrew Munoz, 33, who introduced him to the sport. Unlike Jason,Andrew was an expert caver-a former caving guide, actually. They hiked a bit before coming to the door, which sat in the ground—you’d miss it if you weren’t looking for it. It was 10 a.m. With their way lighted by headlamps, they walked down a narrow passage studded with sharp rocks. The silence was broken by a drip-drip-drip from above. Soon the drip turned into a light but steady flow, and they were wading in water up to their ankles, then to their shins. Two hours later, they approached one of the features that made the cave unique: a narrow passage not big enough to stand up in that led into a short, tight downhill. This had a name: Bastard’s Crawl. Four streams met here, and indeed, the water was flowing more quickly. The sound of the water had turned into a roar. When they finally neared the top of the Crawl, there were barely four inches of air left between the water and the ceiling. not enough for them to keep their heads up to breathe. They came to terrifying realization that they were in danger!

Paragraph 2:
That night I took the javelin home with me. Lying in my bed, I stared at the marvelous stuff, sleepless. No sooner had the sports meeting ended than I was chosen to be a member of the track team. But the flood of excitement was still so fresh, making me suddenly realize the truth: one’s talent is always there, waiting for you to try with courage. From that day in 1953, decades have passed yet I still treasure these words in mind. I tried everything, desiring to explore new possibilities of my life track, and the result turned out to be fruitful. Do remember: everyone has his own javelin, just give it a throw.
Pay special attention to the sentsion:
I watched as the spear took off. My heart quickened constantly as the javelin drew a beautiful curve in the blue sky. “31yards!” the teachers astonished voice hit my eardrum directly, making all the sounds fade into total silence. Contrary to their previous laughs, my classmates looked at me with adoration. It was the best throw that put me to the top of the list. The teacher announced excitedly, “If it hadn’t been for the Javelin, the skinny boy who named Orowitz would never have found his talent.” when the teacher decides to send it home with me as a gift, I gave him a big huge, screaming with excitement.
Everyone has at least one talent, and while it sometimes takes you a life time to find, but it does exist. Trust yourself and just give it a throw.
