1:There are many students living at school, the (child)houses are all far from schoo1.

2:A talk (give)tomorrow is written by Professor Zhang.

另外还有几个不定代词的形式变化,如no one/none、other/another等。

例3:The king decided to see the painter by (he).

Now scientists use those birds' behavior to track illegal fishing boats.Researchers attached data loggers to the backs of 169 albatrosses(信天翁)in Indian oceans. Weighing only 42 grams, the devices included a GPS, which enabled them to detect the presence and intensity of radar signals emitting from boats. That information was then sent by satellite, so the researchers could track the location of the birds—and thus the radar-emitting boats—in real time. The scientists then cross-checked that data against the known locations of boats, collected from a system boats use to declare themselves, called the Automatic Identification System(AIS). And noticeable differences appeared frequently.More than a third of the times the birds "loggers" detected radar signals, and therefore a boat, but no such boat appeared in the official log-meaning that the vehicles had likely switched off their AIS—something that probably happens in illegal fishing operations. The work suggests birds could be an effective boat-monitoring tool as long as illegal fishing operations don't target the birds.Fortunately, such a task would be difficult. Around fishing boats, you can find hundreds of birds at any one time that are flying around. And the birds with loggers are not marked in any way. So it's not really possible for fishermen to pick out a specific bird. But what concerns researchers is that albatrosses often get caught by some fishing boats. Though regulations have been established to protect against that happening—with success—illegal boats don't necessarily obey. So scientists might be underestimating the risk posed to albatross populations.(1)What characteristic of albatrosses do scientists take advantage of in their research?A.Their feeding patterns.B.Their sense of direction.C.Their greedy behaviors.D.Their habit of following fishing boats.(2)For what purpose does a boat shut off its AIS?A.To seek more fishes.B.To have it mistaken for another.C.To avoid being detected.D.To save the trouble of declaring itself.(3)What does "such a task" in Paragraph 6 refer to?A.Identifying birds with loggers.B.Monitoring illegal boats.C.Tracking radar signals automatically.D.Fishing illegally.(4)What could be the best title for the text?A.ATS: an Effective System to Locate BoatsB.Humans Are Good at Discovering Birds' NatureC.Data Loggers Help Fishermen Get a Good HarvestD.Scientists Use Birds to Track Illegal Fishing Operations4.Maybe it's happened to you at some time or another. You've sheepishly handed over a book to thelibrarian and had to fish around for change for the overdue fine.5or Overdue charges start at about 17 cents a day and often are capped at 10 or the cost of replacing the item. The point of library fines isn't to punish readers, it's to encourage them to return items so other people can use them. But some library systems are starting to end overdue fines because they say fines don't serve the intended purpose. Instead, they keep people from returning the items and using the library again because they can't afford to pay. According to the city's research, one in three library readers can no longer check out items because they owe $ 10 or more in fines.Chicago recently became the largest public library system in the U. S. to do away with late fees, while also erasing all outstanding fines."Like too many Chicagoans, I know what it is like to grow up in financially-challenging circumstances and understand what it is like to be just one bill or one mistake away from debt," said Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot.Following Chicago, more cities began to remove fines. Phoenix recently announced it would drop charges, starting this November. Other major systems that don't charge late fees include Cleveland, Denver, San Francisco and Salt Lake City. Then what led to this trend?"There are several likely aspects that caused this trend," said Curtis Rogers, director of communications for the Urban Libraries Council, "including the rise of digital content lending, growing media attention and public discussion of this trend, greater research and conversation about the fine-free movement in the library field, and growing research about the effect of late fines on disadvantaged populations."The American Library Association points to increasing evidence that when fines are canceled, more people apply for library cards and more people use libraries.(1)What is the intended purpose of charging overdue fines?A.To punish people for their mistakes.B.To encourage people to read more books.C.To make books accessible to more people.D.To get some money to buy new books.(2)Why are some libraries getting rid of late fees?A.Overdue fines are illegal by law.B.They expect to win good reputation.C.They are accused of charging too much.te fees keep some people away from libraries.(3)Which word can be used to describe Lori E. Lightfoot?A.Honest.B.Considerate.C.Selfless.D.Optimistic.(4)What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 7?A.The rise of fine-free movement.B.The reasons for removing fines.C.The effect of late fines on people.D.The public's discussion of the trend.cracking gilt molding a stranger. This face at which she stared was not pretty at all and had of the charm she remembered so well. She searched online for certain information and made PowerPoint presentations.Wu Qiong, her classmate, was doing his chemistry homework carefully. But he couldn't work out the last problem though he tried his best. So he took out his mobile phone, opened a special app (手机应用软件 ), and searched for the problem. Answers soon appeared on the screen in several seconds.Nowadays, many students do homework online with the help of the Internet like Li and Wu. They search information online, use apps or discuss through QQ and Wechat."It's convenient. You don't have to wait for your teacher to explain it to you face to face." according to Wu, "You can also learn by seeing how others work them out. What's more, it improves students' abilities. And it's especially true for new kinds of homework. I am quite skilled at finding information online and using Microsoft Office."However, this trend also causes problems. Some lazy students just copy the answers online without a second thought. Even some ask their classmates to do homework for them. John headed home, and on the way he stopped at a market selling items for charity. One of the items was an exquisite(精致的)handmade tablecloth. It was just the right size to cover up the hole in the front wall. He bought it and headed back to the church. It started to snow. An old woman had missed her bus, and he invited her to wait in the warm church for the next one. As John put up the tablecloth the woman asked him to check the corner for the initials(手写字母). They were her initials: she had made this tablecloth 35 years before. Then the war broke out, and forced her to part with her husband.John wanted to give her the tablecloth. But she asked him to keep it for the church. John insisted on driving her home which he thought was the least he could do.What a wonderful service he had on Christmas Eve! John noticed one old man staring at the tablecloth on the front wall. The man said it was similar to one that his wife had made many years before.John brought the old man to the house where he had taken the woman three days earlier. He helped him climb the three flights of stairs to her apartment, and saw the greatest Christmas reunion he could ever have imagined.(1)According to Paragraph one, we learn that John decided to ______.A.help people affected by a terrible stormB.buy goods for charity in the neighborhoodC.repair the abandoned church before his first serviceD.do some work for the local people(2)Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A.The woman's husband had to leave her because of a war.B.John's service on Christmas Eve was disappointing.C.Everyone was surprised by the beauty of the tablecloth.D.John drove the old man home because he was lost.(3)The tablecloth drew the old man's attention because ______.A.he loved its colorsB.he had seen it in a churchC.it was like one his wife had madeD.it looked strange hanging on a wall(4)What is the passage mainly about?A.A kind pastor who had difficulty repairing an ancient church.B.A new pastor who gave his first service with a couples' help.C.A tablecloth made 35 years ago being discovered by a pastor.D.An old couple being reunited on Christmas Eve through a tablecloth.8.Much about the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic remains unclear, but it's likely that the novel coronavirus originated in bats. So, what is it about bats that causes them to carry so many of these viruses? Researchers have identified a few possible explanations.Bats are "extraordinarily social" and spend much of their time packed together, says Bruce Patterson, an official of mammals at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. "When your whole biology involves gathering and taking care of one another in very tight social groupings, it doesn't take very long for any pathogen(病原体)to make its way through the entire population. Because of this group way of life, bats have evolved powerful immune systems in order to survive," Patterson says.In addition, animals have ways of preventing or repairing DNA damage, and these capabilities seem to have become particularly efficient in bats. When infected by viruses, bats have excellent DNA editing and repair mechanisms. All of these factors combined create the perfect storm for bats' harboring and transmitting diseases. And that increases the potential for bats to pass it along to somebody else. However, many species of bats are endangered and very rarely come into contact with humans. In fact, a number of diseases found in bats are typically passed to people by other animals. You're more likely to catch rabies(狂犬病)from a raccoon than a bat, MERS is often transmitted by dromedary camels, and the SARS epidemic probably began with captured civet cats.To avoid future pandemics, it's essential that we discover which viruses are circulating in wild animals and could potentially infect people. That means monitoring animals that could play a role in their transmission to people, including bats.(1)Bats have developed powerful immune systems in that ________.A.they live in packsB.they take care of each otherC.they inhabit in deserted cavesD.they possess strong pathogen(2)What is implied in Paragraph 4?A.Bats can transmit all diseases.B.Bats have better repairing capabilities.C.Mammals are more likely to transmit diseases.D.Few human infections are directly linked to bats.(3)What is suggested to prevent future infections for humans?A.Isolating the infectious animals.B.Keeping an eye on potentially infectious animals.C.Developing advanced DNA editing technology.D.Raising people's awareness of protecting wildlife.(4)How is the text organized?A.B.C.D.9.Experts agree that parents who give up control over their children's lives would raise them to be more independent adults. While most parents are not in the position to bribe their children into elite(精英)schools, this extreme case shows the temptation many feel to take control of their kids' lives. But an extreme approach can have devastating(毁灭性的)consequences when it comes to a child's mental health."These parents thought their kids were not able to manage their lives by themselves. And I don't think there's any worse message you can give somebody than 'I don't have any confidence in your ability to handle your own life,'" the neuropsychologist William Stixrud told HuffPost. Stixrud is the author of The Self-Driven Child: The Science and Sense of Giving Your Kids More Control Over Their Lives, along with Ned Johnson. In their research, Stixrud and Johnson have showed the importance for young people to feel a sense of control over their own lives. "They have many problems like anxiety and depression, and those are related to the fact that kids feel so little control over their lives," said Stixrud. "They feel like, 'Here's a script to get into college, and that's what your life is going to be.' It's too stressful and discouraging for many kids." In order to develop healthy self-motivation, young people need to feel a sense of confidence and control, which parents and educators have the power to promote."We suggest parents think of themselves as advisors, rather than a kid's manager or boss, or the homework police. It's a very different kind of thinking about your role," said Stixrud, "As an advisor, your role is not to force anything or say 'You need to be like this.' Instead, help your kid understand what he or she wants to be." He advises parents to encourage their kids to make their own decisions long before the college years. It's important to constantly ask, "Whose life is this?" and realize the answer is "My child's life, not mine."(1)What does the writer think of the extreme approach in parenting?A.It's harmful to children's mental health.B.It can raise children to be independent ones.C.It can have devastating consequences physically.D.It can help children to be admitted into better schools.(2)Why do some parents control their children's lives so much according to Stixrud?A.They want to be considerate in every aspect.B.They think much stress is good for the children.C.They don't want their children to be independent.D.They have no confidence in their children's ability.(3)What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph?A.To summarize the previous paragraphs.B.To provide some advice for parents.C.To add some background information.D.To introduce a new topic for discussion.(4)Which could be the best title for the text?A.How to Be Your Children's FriendB.Allow Your Children to Grow at WillC.Be Your Children's Advisor Instead of ManagerD.How to Help Your Children Adjust to College LifeA.made every girl and boy happyB.told the girls and boys everything about herselfC.showed that she would like to be a friend of the girls and boys'D.meant she wanted to tell the boys and girls something interesting(3)A new comer will be your friend if ______.A.he always thinks of his old friendsB.you ask him to do somethingC.he knows youD.you talk with him in a friendly way(4)If you want to make friends with others, which of the following shouldn't you do?A.Learn more about them.B.Go on journeys together.C.Find out your differences.D.Try to be the same as them.
