Love is a universal theme that has been celebrated and explored through various forms of art. One of the most beautiful and expressive ways to convey love is through poetry. In this article, we will delve into the world of classic English love poems, exploring their themes, styles, and impact on literature and culture.1. Introduction to English Love PoetryLove poetry has a rich history in the English language, dating back to medieval times. Poets such as Geoffrey Chaucer and William Shakespeare wrote some of the earliest and most influential love poems in English literature. These poems often expressed themes of love, desire, longing, and heartbreak.2. Shakespeare's SonnetsWilliam Shakespeare is renowned for his timeless sonnets, 154 fourteen-line poems that explore various aspects of love. His sonnets are characterized by their iambic pentameter and exquisite use of language. Sonnet 18, often referred to as "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?", is a famous example of Shakespeare's love poetry:Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?Thou art more lovely and more temperate:Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,And summer's lease hath all too short a date.3. Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Sonnets from the PortugueseElizabeth Barrett Browning, a Victorian poet, wrote a series of 44 sonnets that she dedicated to her husband, Robert Browning. The sonnets from her collection "Sonnets from the Portuguese" are a testament to their deep love and devotion. Sonnet 43, commonly known as "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways," is one of her best-known poems:How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.I love thee to the depth and breadth and heightMy soul can reach when feeling out of sightFor the ends of being and ideal grace.4. John Donne's Metaphysical PoetryJohn Donne, a 17th-century English poet, is known for his metaphysical poetry. His love poems often combined intellect, emotion, and spiritual themes. "The Good-Morrow" is a prime example of Donne's unique style:I wonder by my troth, what thou and IDid, till we loved? Were we not weaned till then? But sucked on country pleasures, childishly?Or snorted we in the Seven Sleepers' den?5. Emily Dickinson's Poetic VoiceEmily Dickinson, an American poet of the 19th century, explored love in her enigmatic and introspective poems. Dickinson's love poems often focuson the inner experiences of love rather than romantic or physical aspects. One of her famous poems, often referred to as "Wild nights - Wild nights!" captures the intensity of passionate love:Wild nights - Wild nights! Were I with theeWild nights should beOur luxury!6. Robert Burns and Romantic LoveRobert Burns, a Scottish poet and lyricist of the 18th century, celebrated the joys and sorrows of romantic love in his works. His famous poem, "A Red, Red Rose," displays his ability to capture deep emotions in simple yet profound language:O my Luve's like a red, red rose,That's newly sprung in June:O my Luve's like the melodie,That's sweetly play'd in tune.7. ConclusionFrom Shakespeare's sonnets to Emily Dickinson's introspective verses, English love poetry has offered us a diverse range of emotions, styles, and perspectives. These classic poems continue to resonate with readers worldwide, reminding us of the timeless and universal nature of love. As we explore the beauty and power of these poems, we can find inspiration intheir words and perhaps even pen our own expressions of love in the language of poetry.。

If I don't tell you as often as I'd like,it's because I could never tell you enough - that I'm grateful for yousharing your life with mine, and that my love for you will live forever.8、《The Pride of Youth》Proud Maisie is in the wood,Walking so early;Sweet Robin sits on the bush,Singing so rarely."tell me, thou bonny bird, when shall I marry me?""when six braw gentlemenkirkward shall carry ye.""who makes the bridal bed, birdie, say truly?""The gray-headed sextonThat delves the grave duly.""The glowworm o'er grave and stoneShall light thee steady; The owl from the steeple sing,Welcome, proud lady."9、《What is love?》Love is Mom's kiss and Dad's pat.Love is sweet roses to a lover and tender caresses to a child.Love is the tree of friendship.Love is mutual understanding and support.Love is forgiveness and sacrifice.Love is the never-setting sun in the sky.Love is the spring of the inspiration.Love is a panacea that cures spiritual wounds.Love is the candle in the dark and the fireplace against the cold.Love is a key to open the door of a closed heart.Love is an oasis on a boundless desert which gives a tired walker strength and hope.Love is a harbor in a turbulent sea which makes a weary seaman safe and sound.Love is balmy wind that soothes pain and anxiety from the tempests of the life.Love is the teacher's persistence in giving lectures when he is ill.Love is passing a cup of tea to teachers during the break.Love is sending postcards to parents on their birthdays.Love is a kind of subtle and precious sensation among human beings.Love is all!10、《How Do I Love Thee ?》How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.I love thee to the depth and breadth and height to My soul can reach, when feeling out of sightFor the ends of Being and ideal Grace.I love thee to the level of everyday'sMost quiet need, by sun and candlelight.I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.I love thee with the passion put to useIn my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.I love thee with a love I seemed to loseWith my lost saints, -I love thee with the breath,Smiles, tears, of all my life! - and, if God choose,I shall but love thee better after death .11、《An Entrapment》My love, I have tried with all my beingto grasp a form comparable to thine own,but nothing seems worthy;I know now why Shakespeare could notcompare his love to a summer’s day.It would be a crime to denounce the beautyof such a creature as thee,to simply cast away the precisionGod had placed in forging you. Each facet of your beingwhether it physical or spiritualis an ensnarementfrom which there is no release. But I do not wish release.I wish to stay entrapped forever. With you for all eternity. Our hearts, always as one.12、《Keep Your Direction》What would you do if you failed? Many people may choose to give up.However, the surest way to success is to keep your direction and stick to your goal.On your way to success, you must keep your direction. It is just like a lamp, guiding you in darkness and helping you overcome obstacles on your way.Otherwise, you will easily get lost or hesitate to go ahead.Direction means objectives. You can get nowhere without an objective in life. You can try to write your objective on paper and make some plans to achieve it.In this way, you will know how to arrange your time and to spend your time properly. And you should also have a belief that you are sure to succeed as long as you keep your direction all the time.。

There are so many amazing love poems out there, filled with beautiful imagery andheartfelt emotions. One of my favorite love poems is "How Do I Love Thee?" by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. The poem begins with the famous line, "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways."It goes on to describe the many ways in which the speaker loves their beloved, from the depths and breadth of their soul to the heights of their ideal.Another love poem that I adore is "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe. This hauntingly beautiful poem tells the story of a man's love for a woman who has passed away. The speaker's love for Annabel Lee is so strong that even deathcannot keep them apart.Love poetry is a wonderful way to express your feelings for someone special. 诗歌选辑(一)Indeed this very love which is my boastIndeed this very love which is my boast,And which, when rising up from breast to brow,Doth crown me with a ruby large enowTo draw men's eyes and prove the inner cost, ...This love even, all my worth, to the uttermost,I should not love withal, unless that thouHadst set me an example, shown me how,When first thine earnest eyes with mine were crossedAnd love called love. And thus, I cannot speakOf love even, as a good thing of my own.Thy soul hath snatched up mine all faint and weakAnd placed by thee on a golden throne, --And that I love (O soul, we must be meek!)Is by thee only, whom I love alone.

How Do I LoveThee
诗歌选辑(三)If thou must love me, let it be for noughtIf thou must love me, let it be for noughtExcept for love's sake only. Do not say`I love her for her smile ... her look ... her wayOf speaking gently, ... for a trick of thoughtThat falls in well with mine, and certes broughtA sense of pleasant ease on such a day' --For these things in themselves, Belov’ed, mayBe changed, or change for thee, -- and love, so wroughtMay be unwrought so. Neither love me forThine own dear pity's wiping my cheeks dry, --A creature might forget to weep, who boreThy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby! But love me for love's sake, that evermoreThou may'st love on, through love's eternity.注:1.A trick of thought:thought appearing all of a sudden2.certes:(古) certainly3. wrought:发生了的4. evermore:永久5. may’st:古英语中’st用于may的第二人称形式汉语五言译诗真爱君若爱我真,真爱无所求,爱只为爱来,何须话联翩:“爱尔笑容貌,恋尔天使颜,谈吐何所似,啼啭黄莺喉。
