违背译文语言规范,不引起错误联想,能保持英语 习语的比喻、形象、民族特色、地方习惯的译法。 也就是说,既忠实于原文内容,又忠实于原文形式。
直译法强调习语的民族、地域差异性、保持原作的

英语习语常有字面意义、形象意义或隐含的实际 意义。借形喻义,形成了独具本民族风格的文化意象, 除非汉语中碰巧也有借同样的形象比喻相同的意义的 对等用法,否则这样的习语是很难完好无损地转换成 汉语的。比如英语里有这样一个习语“poke one’s nose into something”,从字面上看好像可以解 释为“把鼻子伸到某样东西里去”,其实这个习语隐 含的实际意义是说“某人管闲事”。有的习语可能只 有字面意义,没有形象意义;有的可能兼有字面意义 和形象意义,但没有隐含意义。如果字面意义或形象 意义与隐含意义在翻译时由于文化的差异出现矛盾, 字面意义或形象意义应当服从隐含意义,因为隐含意 义表达是保证翻译质量的一个极为重要问题。
