英语美国教育演讲

Hello, everyone, I'll talk about something about American education.First of all, in the aspect of the entrance examination , the United States does not carry out the national university entrance interconnected system. What matters to the middle school students applying for colleges is SAT short for the "academic ability assessment test" and ACT short for the "American university evaluation test". ACT and SAT examination have seven times every year. The students can according to their situation take part in a single or every test. The university will admit the student according to the student's highest scores. Because the American universities think that the highest scores explains that you are capable. Even if you get low scores, you may be influenced by various factors at that time ,such as you may have a cold and so on, which is not like the China's "the university entrance exam"- only the test can decide whether you can go to university and even one point can decide what your life will be .Secondly, from the admission standards, the college admission process in the United States rejects the simple and crude ways. It pays more attention to the student's growth process and their overall development. The admission standards are diversified .When they evaluate a student, they also pay attention tohis personal character and social work experience.Thirdly, in American universities, students are free to choose disciplines and change disciplines. It fully considers the characteristics of the development of individual student, and put the choose right to the students ,which can inspire the students' thirst for knowledge and the passion to learn. In a word, American universities are close to the needs of the students and consider all things from the students' actual conditions .They let the students select for themselves and make the students responsible for themselves. That is all, thank you!。

马云美国哥伦比亚大学商学院英语演讲稿

马云美国哥伦比亚大学商学院英语演讲稿Alibaba Makes Internet MagicTopics:EntrepreneurshipLeadershipMedia and TechnologyWorld BusinessPrint this story E-mail this storyBookmark and shareYou may not have heard of the Alibaba Group, but investors, competitors and business leadersaround the world are paying close attention. Formed 11 years ago by high school teacher JackMa, is China's largest B2B Internet marketplace for small- and medium-sizedcompanies. Other holdings include Alipay, an online payment service similar to PayPal; AlibabaCloud Computing; and Taobao, a social networking and shopping site that Mr. Ma describes asa mash-up of Amazon, eBay . But it's the flagship company, , thathas been the incubator for his sometimes-unorthodox ideas on management and productdevelopment."We don't think about making money," Mr. Ma said inSeptember during the Sir Gordon WuDistinguished Speakers Forum at Columbia Business School, sponsored by the Chazen Institutefor International Business. "We think about creating value for society, for the people, and forthe customer. And because we don't think about making money, we make money."That might sound flippant coming from someone whose website raised $1.5 billion in 2019,making it the second largest Internet IPO in history (only Google's, at $1.67 billion, was larger).Today, market capitalization for is nearly $10 billion, and Taobao has mushroomedinto China's largest retailer by some measures. That's all the more remarkable consideringthat Mr. Ma operates in a country with some of the most restrictive Internet censorshippolicies in the world. Still, he has succeeded by adhering to one simple six-word tenet:customers first, employees second, shareholders third. The Early DaysDressed casually in canvas shoes and a white windbreaker, Mr. Ma recounted for the audiencehis childhood in Hangzhou, a major city in China's Yangtze River delta. He was, he said, a fanof wu xia (martial arts) novels, and often got into fistfights as a young boy. He picked upEnglish on his own by acting as a tour guide for foreign visitors in exchange forlanguagelessons, but because he had difficulty with math, he twice failed his general college entranceexams. On the third try, he was admitted to the languages program at the local university, after which he began a career teaching high school English. But along the way, the entrepreneurial bug bit. He launched a translation service and washired by an American businessman, who was bankrolling construction of a local highway, totranslate negotiations with Chinese municipal authorities. Part of the deal-making called for himto travel to Las Vegas to meet some investors, and it was there, in 1995, that he first heard theword "Internet." He then travelled on his own to Seattle to visit VPN, a small Internet serviceprovider with five employees. There he got his first look at the technology that would, within adecade, make him one of the most influential entrepreneurs in the world.Fee or Free?A key to his success, Mr. Ma said, was having a business model so simple that any customercould instantly understand it. Unlike eBay, which has a sliding scale of fees, plus commissionif the item sells, charges nothing for up to 50 product listings. "Chinese SMEs[small and mediumenterprises] want to sell their products abroad," he said. "We help themcreate revenue." But what about Alibaba's revenue? That comes largely from annualmembership fees that sellers pay to upgrade to "Gold Supplier" status, which gives themaccess to more buyers and an online storefront."A membership fee is something all SMEs understand," he said. "If you talk about transaction[charges], our P/E [price to earnings ratio] would go up, but customers wouldn't understandus. Our business model should be simple and easy enough for customers to understand."Taobao, meanwhile, has also steadfastly adhered to the "no transaction fee" philosophy, whichcaused it to leak money for several years. Recently, though, it began selling ad space on thesite. Revenues have been high enough to push Taobao into the black, Mr. Ma said. For the first five years of , Mr. Ma was the site's chief quality control officer. Everyfeature of the site was put to one test: if he couldn't figure out how to use on his own, withoutexplanations or manuals, it didn't get implemented. "I'm not a high-tech guy," he said. "Mywife bought me an iPad and I still don't know how to use it." The site's design is deliberatelyno-frills: Clicking on the "categories" tab, for example, pulls up an easy-to-scan alphabeticallist ofitems for sale, everything from fresh garlic to pipe fittings. New requests from buyers areprominently displayed and constantly updated. And for buyers who cringe at the thought ofracking up a phone bill, there's a list of Chinese suppliers with toll-free numbers. What's ahead for the Alibaba Group? Don't expect a foray into online gaming any time soon. "Idon't believe in online gaming," he said, noting that his son and his friends spend hours afterschool glued to a computer screen. "We could make a lot of money on gaming, but I just don'twant my kids to be focused online," he said. Instead, he said, the next big thing in China will beB2C commerce.“The world is changing,” he said. “With so many consumers, they can say ‘I want my productstailor-made.’ This will fundamentally change the Internet.”---来源网络整理,仅供参考。

But in another life, I would be staying for the Knicks-Heat game tonight -- (applause) -- then go up to Orlando for NBA All-Star Weekend. (Applause.) But these days, I’ve got a few other things on my plate. (Laughter.) Just a few.I just got a fascinating demonstration of the work that some of you are doing at the College of Engineering. (Applause.) And let me say at the outset, we need more engineers. So I could not be prouder of those of you who are studying engineering. It was fascinating stuff. I understood about 10 percent of what they told me. (Laughter.) But it was veryimpressive. (Laughter.) And the work couldn’t be more important, because what they were doing was figuring out how our buildings, our manufacturers, our businesses can waste less energy. And that’s one of the fastest, easiest ways to reduce our dependence on oil, and save a lot of money in the process and make our economy stronger.

1Thank you, all of you for such an incredibly warm …warm welcome to this community.I am deeply honored to have been selected as MIT’s 16thPresident.As a scientist, I've always regarded MIT as a beacon projecting an incredibly bright light that has illuminated the path of discovery andinnovation for the entire world. And I know that I am only one of countless people who have been inspired and on many occasions awed by MIT’s strengths along the entire continuous scholarship, from the most fundamental basic research into the nature of our world, to the most advanced applications and technological innovations. It is of course the mission of every university to produce and disseminate knowledge and yet MIT has advanced both parts of this mission at an absolutely astonishing rate.Discoveries and innovations have poured forth from the Institute in a staggering torrent from engineering and science to be sure, but just as impressively from economics, businesses, the arts, the social sciences and humanities. As all of you might imagine, over the last several weeks I have become increasingly attuned to any mention of MIT.And perhaps not surprisingly, hardly a day has gone by without some news of some MIT discovery, some invention, some new program coming to my attention.MIT’s remarkable history of discovery and innovation alone might well have been enough to draw me here, but over these last few months, I have discovered another critically important feature of this institution’scharacter.Something that speaks to the values and ideas that seem to be the very foundation of this place. From my very first conversations in the search process, I kept hearing about three of MIT’s central values: the pursuit of truth, integrity and the great meritocracy.I heard this from trustees, I heard it from faculty, I heard it from students and I heard it from staff members. And what I heard told me that here was a place whose values closely mirrored my own, a place whose mission I could truly embrace, and a place where Tom, Elizabeth and I could feel very much at home. Now I would guess that many of you are wondering how I imagine the future for M IT.First I have to reassure you I’m not gonna be, bring a kennel of Yale bulldogs with us.You will all not be required to wear hats with whites on them. What I believe in is building strengths on strengths. Each of the MIT schools and activities must continue to be strong and distinctive, and we must continue to look for opportunities to amplify those strengths through collaboration, through shared vision and through shared work.My overarching goal is to help MIT to be an even greater MIT, to become even better at education, research and invention.

Thank you. I'm honored to be with you today for your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. Truth be told, I never graduated from college and this is the closest I've ever gotten to a college graduation.Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it. No big deal. Just three stories. The first story is about connecting the dots.I dropped out of Reed College after the first six months but then stayed around as a drop-in for another eighteen months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out? It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife, except that when I popped out, they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking, "We've got an unexpected baby boy. Do you want him?" They said, "Of course." My biological mother found out later that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would go to college. This was the start in my life. And seventeen years later, I did go to college, but I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents' savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn't see the value in it.I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and no idea of how college was going to help me figure it out, and here I was, spending all the moneymy parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but lookingback, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out, I could stop taking the required classes that didn't interest me andbegin dropping in on the ones that looked far more interestingIt wasn't all romantic. I didn't have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends' rooms. I returned Coke bottles for the five-cent deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the seven miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple.I loved it.And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example.Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer was beautifully hand-calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn't have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and sans-serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can't capture, and I found it fascinating.None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me, and we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts, and since Windows just copiedthe Mac, it's likely that no personal computer would have them.If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on that calligraphy class and personals computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do.Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college, but it was very, very clear looking backwards 10 years later.Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backwards, so you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something--your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever--because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path, and that will make all the differenceMy second story is about love and loss. I was lucky. I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents' garage when I was twenty. We worked hard and in ten years, Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4,000 employees. We'd just released our finest creation, the Macintosh, a year earlier, and I'd just turned thirty, and then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew, we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so, things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge, and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our board of directors sided with him, and so at thirty, I was out, and very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating. I really didn't know what to do for a few months.I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down, that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly.I was a very public failure and I even thought about running away from the Valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me. I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I'd been rejected but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods in my life. During the next five years I started a company namedNeXT, another company named Pixar and fell in love with an amazing womanwho would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the world's first computer-animated feature film, "Toy Story," and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT and I returned to Apple and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple's current renaissance, and Lorene and I have a wonderful family together.I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful-tasting medicine but I guess the patient neededit. Sometimes life's going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don't losefaith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that Iloved what I did. You've got to find what you love, and that is as true for work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do whatyou believe is great work, and the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking, and don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it, and like any great relationship it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking. Don't settle. My third story is about death. When I was 17 I read a quote that went something like "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'llmost certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself, "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "no" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important thing I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life, because almost everything--all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure --these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.About a year ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn't even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctors' code for "prepare to die." It means to try and tell your kids everything you thought you'd have the next ten years to tell them, in just a few months. It means to make sure that everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for yourfamily. It means to say your goodbyes.I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsywhere they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach into myintestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from thetumor. I was sedated but my wife, who was there, told me that when theyviewed the cells under a microscope, the doctor started crying, because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and, thankfully, I am fine now. This was the closest I've been to facing death, and I hope it's the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept. No one wants to die, even people who want to go to Heaven don't want to die to get there, and yet, death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It's life's change agent; it clears out the old to make way for the new. right now, the new is you. But someday, not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it's quite true.Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice, heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalogue, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It wascreated by a fellow named Stuart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late Sixties, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and Polaroid cameras. it was sort of like Google in paperback form thirty-five years before Google came along. It was idealistic, overflowing with neat tools and great notions. Stuart and his team put out several issues of the The Whole Earth Catalogue, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-Seventies and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath were the words, "Stay hungry, stay foolish." It was their farewell message as they signed off. "Stay hungry, stay foolish." And I have always wished that for myself, and now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you. Stay hungry, stay foolish.Thank you all, very muchYour time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice, heart and intuition. 库克于麻省理工学院毕业典礼的演讲

Hello, MIT!Thank you. Congratulations class of ’17. I especially want to thank Chairman Millard, President Reif, distinguished faculty, trustees, and the members of the class of 1967. It is a privilege to be here today with your families and your friends on such on amazing and important day.MIT and Apple share so much. We both love hard problems. We love the search for new ideas, and we especially love finding those ideas, the really big ones, the ones that can change the world. I know MIT has a proud tradition of pranks or as you would call them, hacks. And you have pulled off some pretty great ones over the years. I’ll never figure out how MIT students sent that Mars rover to the Kresge Oval, or put a propeller beanie on the great dome, or how you’ve obviously taken over the president’s Twitter account. I can tell college students are behind because most of the Tweets happen at 3:00 a.m.I’m really happy to be here. Today is about celebration. And you have so much to be proud of. As you leave here to start the next leg of your journey in life, there will be days where you ask yourself, ‘Where is this all going?’ ‘What is the purpose?’ ‘What is my purpose?’ I will be honest, I asked myself that same question and it took nearly 15 years to answer it. Maybe by talking about my journey today, I can save you some time. The struggle for me started early on. In high school, I thought I discovered my life’s purpose when I could answer that age-old question, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ Nope. In college I thought I’d discover it when I could answer, ‘What’s your major?’ Not quite. I thought that maybe I’d discovered it when I found a good job. Then I thought I just needed to get a few promotions. That didn’t work either.I kept convincing myself that it was just over the horizon, around the next corner. Nothing worked. And it was really tearing me apart. Part of me kept pushing ahead to the next achievement. And the other part kept asking, ‘Is this all there is?’I went to grad school at Duke looking for the answer. I tried meditation. I sought guidance in religion. I read great philosophers and authors. And in a moment of youthful indiscretion, I might even have experimented with a Windows PC, and obviously that didn’t work. After countless twists and turns, at last, 20 years ago, my search brought me to Apple. At the time, the company was struggling to survive. Steve Jobs had just returned to Apple, and had launched the ‘Think Different’ campaign. He wanted to empower the crazy ones—the misfits, the rebels and the troublemakers, the round pegs, and the square holes—to do the best work. If we could just do that, Steve knew we could really change the world. Before that moment, I had never met a leader with such passion or encountered a company with such a clear and compelling purpose: to serve humanity. It was just that simple. Serve humanity. And it was in that moment, after 15 years of searching, something clicked. I finally felt aligned; aligned with a company that brought together challenging, cutting-edge work with a higher purpose; aligned with a leader who believed that technology which didn’t exist yet could reinvent tomorrow’s world; aligned with myself and my own deep need to serve something greater.Of course, at tha t moment I don’t know all of that. I was just grateful to have psychological burden lifted. But with the help of hindsight, my breakthrough makes a lot more sense. I was never going to find my purpose working some place without a clear sense of purpose of its own. Steve and Applefreed me to throw my whole self into my work, to embrace their mission and make it my own. How can I serve humanity? This is life’s biggest and most important question. When you work towards something greater than yourself, you find meaning, you find purpose. So the question I hope you will carry forward from here is how will you serve humanity? The good news is since you are here today you are on a great track. At MIT you have learned how much power that science and technology have to change the world for the better. Thanks to discoveries made right here, billions of people are leading healthier, more productive and more fulfilling lives. And if we’re ever going to solve some of the hardest problems facing the world today, everything from cancer to climate change to educational inequality, then technology will help us to do it.But technology alone isn’t the solution. And sometimes it’s even part of the problem.Last year I had the chance to meet with Pope Francis. It was the most incredible meeting of my life. This is a man who has spent more time comforting the inflicted in slums than with heads of state. This may surprise you, but he knew an unbelievable amount about technology. It was obvious to me that he had thought deeply about it. Its opportunity. Its risks. Its morality. What he said to me at that meeting, what he preached, really, was on a topic that we care a lot about at Apple. But he expressed a shared concern in a powerful new way: Never has humanity had such power over itself, yet nothing ensures it will be used wisely,he has said.Technology today is integral to almost all aspects of our lives and most of the time it’s a force for good. And yet the potential adverse consequences are spreading faster and cutting deeper. The threats to security, threats to privacy, fake news, and social media that becomes antisocial. Sometimes the very technology that is meant to connect us divides us. Technology is capable of doing great things. But it doesn’t want to do great things. It doesn’t want anything. That part takes all of us. It takes our values and our commitment to our families and our neighbors and our communities, our love of beauty and belief that all of our faiths are interconnected, our decency, our kindness.I’m not worried about artificial intelligence giving computers the ability to think like humans. I’m more concerned about people thinking like computers without values or compassion, without concern for consequences. That is what we need you to help us guard against. Because if science is a search in the darkness, then the humanities are a candle that shows us where we’ve been and the danger that lies ahead. As Steve once said, technology alone is not enough. It is technology married with the liberal arts married with the humanities that make our hearts sing. When you keep people at the center of what you do, it can have an enormous impact. It means an iPhone that allows the blind person to run a marathon. It means an Apple Watch that catches a heart condition before it becomes a heart attack. It means an iPad that helps a child with autism connect with his or her world. In short, it means technology infused with your values, making progress possible for everyone.Whatever you do in your life, and whatever we do at Apple, we must infuse it with the humanity that each of us is born with. That responsibility is immense, but so is the opportunity. I’m optimistic because I believe in your generation, your passion, your journey to serve humanity. We are all counting on you. There is so much out there conspiring to make you cynical. The internet has enabled so much and empowered so many, but it can also be a place where basic rules of decency are suspended and pettiness and negativity thrive. Don’t let that noise knock you off course. Don’t get caught up in thetrivial aspects of life. Don’t listen to trolls and for God’s sake don’t become one. Measure your impact in humanity not in the likes, but the lives you touch; not in popularity, but in the people you serve. I found that my life got bigger when I stopped carrying about what other people thought about me. You will find yours will too. Stay focused on what really matters. There will be times when your resolve to serve humanity will be tested. Be prepared. People will try to convince you that you should keep your empathy out of your career. Don’t accept this false premise. At a shareholders meeting a few years back, someone questioned Apple’s investment and focus on the environment. He asked me to pledge that Apple would only invest in green initiatives that could be justified with a return on investment. I tried to be diplomatic. I pointed out that Apple does many things, like accessibility features for those with disabilities that don’t rely on an ROI. We do the things because they are the right thing to do, and protecting the environment is a critical example. He wouldn’t let it go and I got my blood up. So I told him, “If you can’t accept our position, you shouldn’t own Apple stock.”When you are convinced that your cause is right, have the courage to take a stand. If you see a problem or an injustice, recognize that no one will fix it but you. As you go forward today, use your minds and hands and your hearts to build something bigger than yourselves. Always remember there is no idea bigger than this.As Dr. Martin Luther King said, “All life is interrelated. We are all bound together into a single garment of destiny.” If you keep that idea at the forefront of all that you do, if you choose to live your lives at that intersection between technology and the people it serves, if you strive to create the best, give the best, do the best for everyone, not just for some, then today all of humanity has good cause for hope.Thank you very much and congratulations class of 2017!。

Ladies and Gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. It is an honor to stand before you today and share my experiences and aspirations as I embark on the remarkable journey of studying abroad in the United States. The opportunity to pursue higher education in America is a dream that has been long cherished by many, and I am excited to be one of the fortunate few who will get to live it.Firstly, let me express my gratitude to the organizers of this event for inviting me to speak. It is through such platforms that we can come together, share our stories, and inspire one another. As I stand here, I am reminded of the words of the great Martin Luther King Jr., who once said, "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." Today, I hope to share my own arc, which has led me to this moment of pursuit and possibility. My Motivation to Study AbroadThe decision to study abroad was not one that I made lightly. It was the culmination of years of dreaming, planning, and preparation. My motivation stemmed from a deep-seated desire to broaden my horizons, challenge myself academically, and gain a global perspective on the world. As a young student growing up in [Your Home Country], I was constantly exposed to the rapid advancements and innovations taking place in the global landscape. I was particularly fascinated by the United States, a nation that has always been at the forefront of technological progress, cultural diversity, and academic excellence. I wanted to be a part of this dynamic and ever-evolving society, and studying abroad seemed like the perfect way to achieve that goal. The Benefits of Studying AbroadThere are numerous benefits to studying abroad, and I believe that these advantages will not only shape my academic journey but also my personal growth.1. Academic Excellence: The United States is renowned for its world-class universities and institutions that offer a wide range of courses and research opportunities. By studying here, I will have access to the latest educational resources and be surrounded by a community of scholars and experts who are passionate about their fields.2. Cultural Immersion: One of the most compelling reasons for me to study abroad is the chance to immerse myself in a new culture. America is a melting pot of cultures, and I am eager to learn from its diverse population. This experience will broaden my worldview and teach me the importance of empathy, understanding, and respect for others.3. Personal Development: Studying abroad will push me out of my comfort zone and force me to become more independent and self-reliant. I will learn to navigate new environments, manage my time effectively, and solve problems creatively. These skills will be invaluable not only in my academic pursuits but also in my future career.4. Networking Opportunities: The connections I make while studying abroad will be invaluable. I will have the opportunity to meet students from all over the world, participate in international conferences, and collaborate on cross-cultural projects. These experiences will open doors to a global network of professionals and future opportunities. My Aspirations and GoalsAs I prepare to leave my home country and embark on this new chapter of my life, I have clear aspirations and goals.Firstly, I aspire to excel academically. I plan to pursue a degree in [Your Field of Study], and I am determined to achieve the highest standards of excellence. I believe that education is not just about acquiring knowledge but also about fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Secondly, I aspire to contribute to the global community. I hope to use my education and experiences to make a positive impact on the world. Whether it be through research, advocacy, or community service, I amcommitted to using my skills and knowledge to address pressing global issues.Lastly, I aspire to become a global citizen. I want to understand the complexities of the world we live in and work towards building a more inclusive and sustainable future. By studying abroad, I am taking the first steps towards realizing this dream.ConclusionIn conclusion, my journey to study abroad in the United States is not just about pursuing higher education; it is about embracing the American dream and fulfilling my potential. I am excited about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead and am committed to making the most of this incredible experience. As I stand on the precipice of this new adventure, I am reminded of the words of the great American writer, Maya Angelou, who said, "You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it."I am ready to face the defeats, learn from them, and emerge stronger. I am ready to embrace the American dream and make it a reality.Thank you for listening to my story. I invite you to join me on this journey, and together, let us strive to make the world a better place.God bless America, and God bless us all.Thank you.。

美国MIT大学招生官说明演讲(英文)(精选5篇)

美国MIT大学招生官说明演讲(英文)(精选5篇)第一篇:美国MIT大学招生官说明演讲(英文)00025 Part ThreeDavid BurgeThank you very much for inviting us here today. As our privilege and honor to be here, I first took advanced placement course in 1991 and I was one of the most demanding courses that I’ve ever took. When I earned my grade of 4 on my AP exam, which is one of my proudest academic moments. In 1993, I took a course while attending university campus on china history is by far my favorite course of my entire time.Normally, when I attend conferences, I’m known as the gentle men in the boat time. This conference expected I would be known as gentlemen pretending to be XXX(人名), I got here today is to explain a little bit about public universities in the United State.I have worked in public universities for 15 years at 3 different institutions so that’s the subject I know well.I presently work at Arizona Sate University. For those of you who are not familiar with Arizona Sate University. We are located in Phoenix Arizona and the easiest way to put it in perspective is we are 5 hours for Volcanoes. And we are 4 hours from Las Vegas. When Speak with the coming international students, and I asked them what they want to do other than learn While in United State. They said want to go Disney land and Los Vegas.ASU offers more than 650 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in 17 colleges and schools. And I will explain how important that is to public university admission process when you are applying to American public universities, you are most often making an application to a very specific program. So the admission standards will be different dependingon the program which you are applying. But let’s take a step back and introduce you to the public university system within United States and speak them because it’s different that I would understand the university system in China to be.Fir stable, public universities are only partially funded by the States government within United States. There are very few national or federal funded institutions or federal governments will provide funding to individuals students to attend universities. And there are few municipal funded or charged universities.Which is to say, a municipality or a city would fund institutions in part of learning. The public university system in US is very diverse. There is no one way we all determine admissions rather a collective and individuals how we approach things.I’m going to spend my time today using a Arizona State University as an example of one type public university applying process. It is what we call it objective review meaning that we will review a student’s academic records but we do not require letter of reference. We do not require an essay. That’s one of the distinction between the several colleges we speak today.A quick note. This table being displayed is from the report of reference several times here this morning. This is from the IIE open doors report. This is the top 15 American universities by total international in the roll.I placed blue arrows next to public universities. So you can see the ten of the top 15 American universities for international in roll in pu blic. One goal is there.Let’s guess what that is.The objective review of the American admission process simply means that we are looking at 2 criteria for admission. The first criteria would be performance in your high school or your transfer institution. And we will convert your grade point average to the American scale. The traditional American scale is a 4 point of your pointaverage. And your applying as first time fleshment and we convert your point average to 3.0 or higher. You have met academic requirements in order to be admitted to Arizona Sate university. As thisis in objective review, we do this process in a rolling bases which is to say an applicant has appliedthe Arizona Sate university today could expect here as few as 3or 4 weeks as the admission decisions. There is no final deadline we gather every applicants sitting in the room we read them rather we collect the access-ment of evaluation of credits they’ve earned. And we administer admission decisions as soon as recruit. In addition to the academic criteria we valuate , we always look at the English proficiency standards. As for English proficiency,we are looking for some of the mandatories presented on the screen.Students can demonstrate they have a command of English sufficiency to perform well in Arizona State university by taking a paper base TOEFL and earning a 500 or Internet base TOELF at 61 or working at IELTS and earning a 6.0 higher with no individual band under 5.5.These are the standards that get applied at public universities in US.An important fact I should mention is we are the largest public university in the US.We have more than 70,000 students in roll. This will get a studentadmitted to our institution. However, if that student has the intention of studying business, the admission standards become a bit more complex. So notice the first standard I identified , if a student wants to study business would be either 1160 on SAT test that does not include the writing part rather first 2 components or has earned 3.6 GPA on the 4 point scale.Again compare that, the raw university standards of 3.0 on 4 point scale compared to 3.6.Or in the case of institutions are post secondary schools that provide class rankyou rank top 8%.So the business standards are going to be a bit higher. Now let’s look at an other lay complexing. If you want to study engineering at a place like Arizona State university, then you will have a different admission standards. So the student must earn 1140 on SAT or 3.0 GPA.But we also take a deep look at the courses the student has takenin high school. We want to make sure the student has taken at least 4 years of math and has taken 3 years of laboratory science. So we take a deep dive intostudent’s academic records if the engineering is the expectation.Notice in the case of engineering, the English proficiency requirement is also higher.Which is to say ,550 on the paper base TOEFL or 79 on internet-based TOEFL or 6.5 IELTS.The pictures come together at public universities which is that we don’t necessarily look at the whole linguistic r eview my colleagues do but the individual programmes will have individual standards must be here to gain at the admission. You will find these at most public universities. The standards may change , but you will find that many public universities in US are looking for those objective measures to determine whether or not someone gets admitted.Let’s skip over this to conditional admission. Now we need aspect of admission that I don’t suppose is you completely need to public universities but important for you to understand as educators. If a student has the academic qualification to gain admission but less English proficiency skills, that student can still be admitted. And there is a very specific path for that student to get entry into a school like Arizona State university expect for many of my colleagues joining me here today. It is a case a student making application to...Let’s use the engineering as an example.Let’s go back here. That student has 1200 on SAT, so he meets the academic requitements and alsohas 4 ye ars of maths and 3 years of laboratory science.Let’s say he has earned a 500 on paper-based TOEFL which makes him eligible to attend some majors at ASU but not his desired major at ASU.That student would have a choice. That student couldeither gain admission into a different program to study meaning that he would not going to engineering.Or that student could come to ASU could take English preparatory course work.We guarantee that student he or she completes that course work.He or she will be guaranteed admission once they satisfy the English proficiency. So the students can expand their time within the public university like Arizona state university. They can spend more time learning English in a intensive environment.Perhaps for 7 weeks.Perhaps for a whole semester.Or perhaps for the entire academic year. And roll over into degree seeking studentsat the Arizona state university. In conclusion , I might point out there some new answers the the approach. These are the academic criteria. These are the English proficiency criteria.I know many students are quite interested how is that impact their thesis, their immigrationpaper work.Let me say for student we consider for admission. All they have to submit would be their academic credentials. They should submit applications, the fees, the transcript , test scores if that helps calls for admission. We would admit a student without financial guarantee. However, we would not issue the visa paper work until the documentations on file.So you have the steer system where the student can gain the admission, gain the necessary documentation to be issue the appropriate piece of paper work at final complete their enrollment in public Universities like Arizona state university. All I explained today is available in the English and Chinese language website which many universitieshave. That is very common in American universities. That will help explain to both students ,parents and individuals like yourself. With that, I say thank you very much for your attention today.00027 Part Three Matt

Thank you. (Applause.) Thank you all so much. Thank you. Well, you guys rest yourselves. Youve been very busy. (Laughter.) Youre being spoken to a lot. I hear my husband was here. (Laughter.) But it is truly a pleasure to be here with all of you today, and I want to thank you so much for joining us for this years College Opportunity Day of Action. You should be proud. Were already proud of you, and this day has just already been a tremendous success.Of course I want to start by thanking Homero. I mean, hes just an amazing story, an amazingperson, and Im grateful for that wonderful introduction. We have to give him another round ofapplause. (Applause.)A clear reminder of why were here today and what were working for.I also want to recognize the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, as well as the Lumina Foundation, forhelping to make this event possible. Lets give them a round of applause as well. (Applause.)And of course, as we come together to talk about the importance of college counseling, Iespecially want to recognize all of the school counselors here today. Yes! (Applause.) You canraise the roof for yourselves. A little raising the roof. (Laughter.) But I think we can all agreethat all of our counselors, all of you have one of the hardest, but most important jobs in oureducation system, yet too often you dont get the resources, the support or the appreciationthat you need and deserve. And that has serious consequences not just for our kids, but forour country.I mean, lets be honest with ourselves – when it comes to college counseling in our nationsschools, there are two worlds. As many of you know, while the American School CounselorAssociation recommends no more than 250 students per counselor, the national average is onecounselor forevery 471 students. So too many of our kids go through high school with little, ifany, real guidance on how to get into college. They dont know what classes to take, or how to prepare for the SAT or the ACT. No one helpsthem decide which colleges to apply to. No one reviews their applications. And plenty of kidshave no idea that theyre eligible for financial aid, so they assume they just cant afford college, and they dont even bother to apply. Now, thats one world. The other world is much smaller – its a world of schools where thequestion isnt where students are going to college, but – or whether theyre going to college, but where. Kids in this world start preparing for college long before they even start high school. And from the first day of freshman year, theyve been shepherded through every step of theprocess. Theyve got SAT and ACT prep courses, they take those tests again and again toimprove their scores. Counselors have much smaller caseloads, and they walk kids throughevery deadline, they edit every draft of their essays. Honestly, when Barack and I talk aboutthis, we look at the kind of college counseling many of the kids are getting today and we wonderhow we ever managed to get ourselves into college. So the fact is that right now, a small number of students are getting every advantage in thecollege admissions race, while millions of other students who are just as talented cant evenbegin to compete. (Applause.) And as the college presidents here all know, the result is thatcolleges arent always getting all of the very best students. Theyre getting the students whocan best afford to succeed in this system. And we are leaving behind so many bright, hungry,promise-filled kids. We are depriving ourselves of so much human potential in this country –from the scientific discoveries these kids might make, to the businesses that they might build,to the leadership that they might one day show in ourcommunities. Were missing all of that. Were also losing all of that simply because we arent making the basicinvestment in their future today, and thats a tragedy. Its a tragedy for our country. Its atragedy for those kids and for their families, because we all know – we know – that if you wantto secure a decent-paying job in todays economy, a high school diploma simply isnt enough. So unlike 40 or 50 years ago, higher education is no longer just for kids in the top quarter orthe top half of the class, it has to be for everyone. So we are going to need a college-counselingsystem that reflects this new reality. (Applause.)Now, thats easier said than done. We know that this isnt going to happen overnight. We knowthat states and school systems are facing all kinds of budget challenges. But one of my coremessages to students through my Reach Higher initiative is that no matter what is going on attheir school or in their family, Ive been trying to tell kids that no matter what resources theymay have or not have, that they still need to take responsibility for their education. I tell themthat they need to do the work to reach out to teachers who can help them. They need toresearch schools in their communities on their own. They need to find that FAFSA form onlineand fill it out.So my message to all of you is the same: We all need to step up and do what we can with theresources we have, especially when it comes to supporting our school counselors. And that isexactly what so many of you have done through the commitments youve made as part of thissummit. Universities across the country have pledged to create college and career-readiness courses intheir masters programs for school counselors. School districts are partnering with nonprofits andcolleges to provide training for counselors once theyre in our schools. Nonprofits aresteppingup to improve student-and-counselor ratios and bringing recent graduates into schools toserve as role models and mentors. And these are just the highlights. Altogether, these commitments represent tens of millions ofdollars that will impact hundreds of schools and countless students. These are outstandingcommitments, and we need more efforts like these all across this country. Every one of us has arole to play.So for the superintendents here today, I know you all are struggling with so many demandsunder such tight budgets, but can you do more to support your counselors? Can you find waysto – (applause) – yes – shift some of that extra burden that falls in their lap, like substituteteaching, case management, exam proctoring? Can you give them more time to actuallycounsel students? To the college presidents here, can you do even more to make college counseling part of yourmission to get the very best students to your schools? And can the foundations and nonprofitorganizations help in that work? Can you rethink the college admissions process to find more ofthose students whove got what it takes to succeed but havent had the chance to develop theirpotential? Can you create college prep centers in your communities and ensure that test-prepclasses are affordable for all of our kids? And for those of you who are concerned that perhaps this type of involvement might falselyraise hopes of admission to your school – because Ive heard that as well – just consider the factthat while many of the kids you help might not be the right fit for your college or university, but they will be the right fit for another school, and maybe that other school will help preparestudents for admission to your school. (Applause.)So this is really a collective effort, and everyone can benefit. Andas you all step up to take onthese issues, really, I really want to hear about what youre doing. And thats one of the reasonswhy I recently announced two new Reach Higher Commencement Challenges. Im askingcolleges to create videos showcasing your work to bring low-income and first-generationstudents to your campuses for peer mentoring, college immersion experiences and all kind ofwonderful opportunities. And for the high schools, I want to see videos about what youre doing to increase your FAFSAcompletion rates to help more students afford college. And for those schools with the winningvideos, I just might pay a visit around commencement time, if you know what I mean – (laughter) – to let you know how impressed I am.So I hope that you all will go to and get more information, because Im eagerto see what you all are doing. I know youre going to do some great things. You see, I know thatthe smallest, most local efforts can make such a difference in the lives of our young people. And Im thinking today of a school called La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Afew years ago, the college counseling staff at that school met with a young woman namedRoberta Gutierrez during her sophomore year. Roberta was an excellent student, so they urgedher to take the PSAT and come up with a list of colleges that she wanted to apply to. Now, whileRoberta took the test, she never came up with that list – and Im sure you know why.But then, at the beginning of Robertas school year, her counselors learned that she had beennamed a National Merit Semi-Finalist with a PSAT score in the top 1 percent of the entire state. So the counselors – yes, good stuff – (applause) – the counselors immediately informedRoberta that she would be eligible for thousands of dollars in scholarships. And Roberta, ofcourse, she was shocked. She told them that she never made the list of colleges because herfamily lived from paycheckto paycheck, so she didnt think she could afford tuition. She toldthem that just to pay the $15 fee to take the PSAT, she had to skip lunch for a week. And after meeting with Roberta, the counseling staff decided that no student at their schoolwould ever again have to choose between eating and taking a test that opens the doors tocollege. So they now hold fundraisers – yes. (Applause.) They hold fundraisers throughout theschool year to ensure that low-income students can take the PSAT for free. And they go out oftheir way to tell every family about the financial aid resources that are available for college. And as for Roberta, she is now in her junior year on a full scholarship at the University of NewMexico, and shes planning to get a PhD in psychology – yes. (Applause.)You all know these stories. There are so many kids just like Roberta all across this country, andtheyre bright. These kids are determined. These are the kids who have everything it takes tosucceed if we would just give them that chance. And thats what the counselors and leaders atLa Cueva High School did for Roberta – they gave her a shot at the future she deserved. And just think about the ripple effect that those counselors will have in transforming just onestudents life. Think about the difference Roberta can make when she gets that PhD. Think of allthe patients she might treat, all the groundbreaking research she might do. Think of the rolemodel that she will be – she already is – inspiring countless young people just like her topursue their dreams. There are millions of young people like Roberta all across this country, and they are counting onus to step up for them. Theyre counting on us to give them opportunities worthy of theirpromise. And that is exactly what all of you are doing every single day. That is the purposeofthe commitments that youve made as part of this summit. Thats why Im proud and honoredto be here. And I want to close today simply by saying thank you, truly. Thank you. Thank you for yourpassion. Thank you for your dedication. Thank you for your tremendous contributions to thiscountry. I look forward to continuing our work together. We got a lot more stuff to do. And Icannot wait to see all that you are going to achieve in the months and years ahead. So thank you so much. Keep it up. And lets bring more people to the table. You all take care. Thanks so much. (Applause.)。

00025 Part ThreeDavid BurgeThank you very much for inviting us here today. As our privilege and honor to be here, I first took advanced placement course in 1991 and I was one of the most demanding courses that I’ve ever took. When I earned my grade of 4 on my AP exam, which is one of my proudest academic moments. In 1993, I took a course while attending university campus on china history is by far my favorite course of my entire time. Normally, when I attend conferences, I’m known as the gentle men in the boat time. This conference expected I would be known as gentlemen pretending to be XXX(人名), I got here today is to explain a little bit about public universities in the United State. I have worked in public universities for 15 years at 3 different institutions so that’s the subject I know well. I presently work at Arizona Sate University. They said want to go Disney land and Los Vegas. ASU offers more than 650 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in 17 colleges and schools. And I will explain how important that is to public university admission process when you are applying to American public universities, you are most often making an application to a very specific program. So the admission standards will be different depending on the program which you are applying. But let’s take a step back and introduce you to the public university system within United States and speak them because it’s different that I would understand the university system in China to be. Fir stable, public universities are only partially funded by the States government within United States. There are very few national or federal funded institutions or federal governments will provide funding to individuals students to attend universities. And there are few municipal funded or charged universities. Which is to say, a municipality or a city would fund institutions in part of learning. The public university system in US is very diverse. There is no one way we all determine admissions rather a collective and individuals how we approach things. I’m going to spend my time today using a Arizona State University as an example of one type public university applying process. It is what we call it objective review meaning that we will review a student’s academic records but we do not require letter of reference. We do not require an essay. That’s one of the distinction between the several colleges we speak today. A quick note. This table being displayed is from the report of reference several times here this morning. This is from the IIE open doors report. This is the top 15 American universities by total international in the roll. I placed blue arrows next to public universities. So you can see the ten of the top 15 American universities for international in roll in public. One goal is there. Let’s guess what that is. The objective review of the American admission process simply means that we are looking at 2 criteria for admission. The first criteria would be performance in your high school or your transfer institution. And we will convert your grade point average to the American scale. The traditional American scale is a 4 point of your point average. And your applying as first time fleshment and we convert your point average to 3.0 or higher. You have met academic requirements in order to be admitted to Arizona Sate university. As thisis in objective review, we do this process in a rolling bases which is to say an applicant has applied the Arizona Sate university today could expect here as few as 3or 4 weeks as the admission decisions. There is no final deadline we gather every applicants sitting in the room we read them rather we collect the access-ment of evaluation of credits they’ve earned. And we administer admission decisions as soon as recruit. In addition to the academic criteria we valuate , we always look at the English proficiency standards. As for English proficiency,we are looking for some of the mandatories presented on the screen. Students can demonstrate they have a command of English sufficiency to perform well in Arizona State university by taking a paper base TOEFL and earning a 500 or Internet base TOELF at 61 or working at IELTS and earning a 6. 0 higher with no individual band under 5.5. These are the standards that get applied at public universities in US. An important fact I should mention is we are the largest public university in the US. We have more than 70,000 students in roll. This will get a student admitted to our institution. However, if that student has the intention of studying business, the admission standards become a bit more complex. So notice the first standard I identified , if a student wants to study business would be either 1160 on SAT test that does not include the writing part rather first 2 components or has earned 3.6 GPA on the 4 point scale. Again compare that, the raw university standards of 3.0 on 4 point scale compared to 3.6. Or in the case of institutions are post secondary schools that provide class rank you rank top 8%. So the business standards are going to be a bit higher. Now let’s look at another lay complexing. If you want to study engineering at a place like Arizona State university, then you will have a different admission standards. So the student must earn 1140 on SAT or 3.0 GPA. But we also take a deep look at the courses the student has taken in high school. We want to make sure the student has taken at least 4 years of math and has taken 3 years of laboratory science. So we take a deep dive into student’s academic records if the engineering is the expectation. Notice in the case of engineering, the English proficiency requirement is also higher. Which is to say ,550 on the paper base TOEFL or 79 on internet- based TOEFL or 6.5 IELTS. The pictures come together at public universities which is that we don’t necessarily look at the whole linguistic review my colleagues do but the individual programmes will have individual standards must be here to gain at the admission. You will find these at most public universities. The standards may change , but you will find that many public universities in US are looking for those objective measures to determine whether or not someone gets admitted. Let’s skip over this to conditional admission. It is a case a student making application to... Let’s use the engineering as an example. Let’s go back here. That student has 1200 on SAT, so he meets the academic requitements and also has 4 years of maths and 3 years of laboratory science. Let’s say he has earned a 500 on paper- based TOEFL which makes him eligible to attend some majors at ASU but not his desired major at ASU. That student would have a choice. That student could either gain admission into a different program to study meaning that he would not going to engineering. Or that student could come to ASU could take English preparatory course work.We guarantee that student he or she completes that course work. He or she will be guaranteed admission once they satisfy the English proficiency. So the students can expand their time within the public university like Arizona state university. They can spend more time learning English in a intensive environment. Perhaps for 7 weeks. Perhaps for a whole semester. Or perhaps for the entire academic year. And roll over into degree seeking students at the Arizona state university. In conclusion , I might point out there some new answers the the approach. These are the academic criteria. These are the English proficiency criteria. I know many students are quite interested how is that impact their thesis, their immigration paper work. Let me say for student we consider for admission. All they have to submit would be their academic credentials. They should submit applications, the fees, the transcript , test scores if that helps calls for admission. We would admit a student without financial guarantee. However, we would not issue the visa paper work until the documentations on file. So you have the steer system where the student can gain the admission, gain the necessary documentation to be issue the appropriate piece of paper work at final complete their enrollment in public Universities like Arizona state university. All I explained today is available in the English and Chinese language website which many universities have. That is very common in American universities. That will help explain to both students ,parents and individuals like yourself. With that, I say thank you very much for your attention today.00027 Part Three Matt McGann。
