阅读理解专练(一) 人物与故事(限时20分钟)A(2018·安徽江淮十校联考)It was dawn of March 21, 2018.Gary Messina was on his morning run along New York City's East River.Suddenly something caught his eye —a large 60yearold man balancing on the fourfoothigh fence that guarded the path from the water. As Messina got closer to the scene, the man took a step forward and slipped into the dark river below. When Messina reached nearer, the man was struggling in the water, clearly unable to swim.Other joggers also heard the man's cry.David Blauzvern and John Green dropped their phones and keys on land and jumped in.“People had called the police, but it was unclear when they'd get there,”says Green.“We just reacted.”Messina joined them in the river.Just as the jumper was losing strength, Blauzvern took hold of him.The pair were about 30 yards from the seawall when Messina and Green caught up to him. They seized the man, with Blauzvern supporting his back and Messina and Green holding him up from either side.As the men made their way toward the concrete seawall that stretched for blocks in each direction, Blauzvern had an awful realization: there was no way out of the river.By now, a crowd had gathered on land.“A rescue boat is on its way,”someone yelled to them.Swimming forward was getting tougher by the minute. The jumper, who was six foot two and weighed around 260 pounds, was heavy in his rescuers' arms. After ten minutes, they managed to get to the river's edge.“I've never been so out of breath,”says Blauzvern.Fifteen minutes after the men had jumped into the river, the twoman rescue boat appeared. But because it couldn't risk getting too close to the seawall, the men had to swim out to it.“I was completely out of energy at this point,”says Blauzvern. The men in the water pushed the jumper while the men in the boat pulled him up and, finally, to safety. The man they had saved was taken to the hospital for evaluation (评估).Details on his condition have not been released. As for the rescuers, each of them was at work by 10:30 a.m.“I was a bit late,”admits Blauzvern, smiling.“But I had a goodexcuse.”语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文,介绍了一场路人勇救落水者的故事。

新高考适用2023版高考英语二轮总复习第1部分阅读能力突破篇专题1阅读理解第4讲主旨大意题
第一部分专题一第4讲A(2022·山东省泰安市高三一模)Imagine that one day you live in a highly immersive (身临其境) virtual world. You can go to a virtual concert, take a trip online, view or create artworks and try on or buy digital clothing.Amid a pandemic like COVID-19, instead of seeing teachers and classmates on a video call screen, you could join them in a virtual classroom. This may help you understand the concept, metaverse. The term metaverse refers to a shared virtual 3D world in which people can access via the Internet.Currently, most virtual spaces look more like the inside of a video game than real life. However, metaverseʼs made the digital spaces more realistic by the use of virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR, 增强现实).Metaverse was first used in Neal Stephensonʼs novel SnowCrash in 1992.The novel is about Hiro, a pizza delivery man by day and a VR superhero by night who lives in an online universe called The Metaverse.“He is in a computer-generated universe that his computer is drawing onto his glasses and pulling into his earphones,” the novel says of the city that everyone pops into in VR.The idea rings in many other works, for example, in ReadyPlayerOne directed by Steven Spielberg. In recent years, metaverse has become the latest popular word to capture the tech industryʼs imagination so much that one of the best-known Internet platforms is renamed to embrace the futuristic idea—Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that he changed his companyʼs name to Meta.Tech companies are also dedicated to exploring metaverse-related products.Facebook has launched meeting software for companies, called Horizon Workrooms, to use with VR headsets. The headsets cost $300 or more, putting the metaverseʼs most cutting-edge (尖端的) experiences out of reach for many. For users who can afford it, they can enter the virtual worlds created by different companies.Fans of metaverse see it as the next stage in the development of the Internet. So, do you expect the coming of metaverse?1.What can be inferred about metaverse?________A.It is a video game like real life.B.It is a parallel universe imagined by scientists.C.It gives us a real life in a virtual world.D.It can protect yourself from a pandemic.2.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?________A.The fiction SnowCrash.B.The origin of metaverse.C.A VR superhero.D.The film ReadyPlayerOne.3.Why did Facebook CEO use Meta as his companyʼs name?________A.Metaverse has become more popular.B.He lives in a virtual world every day.C.Facebook is the best-known Internet platform.D.He has accepted the idea of metaverse.4.What can we know from the text about VR headsets?________A.They are very cheap for most of us.B.Their users can experience a virtual world.C.Horizon Workroom donʼt need them at all.D.They will bring us into the final stage of the Internet.【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了什么是虚拟空间(metaverse)、其产生的由来及运用。
2022届高三英语二轮复习每日一练03(含答案解析)
2022届高三英语二轮复习每日一练03Autism(自闭症) could be caused by a lack of protein(蛋白质) in the brain, new research suggests.A third of cases are believed to be down to a lack of nSR100, which is important for normal brain development. Experts say this can cause mistakes in the wiring(布线) of the brain and possibly lead to autism.Researchers from the University of Toronto lowered levels of the protein, which controls the building of cells(细胞), in mice. They found that a reduction in nSR100 by just half was enough to trigger typical autistic(自闭症的) behaviors. These include avoiding social activities and increased fear to noise. This is the second study of the protein by the Canadian researchers. The first showed that nSR100 is reduced in the brains of autistic people.Lead researcher of the study, Dr Sabine Cordes, said: “We previously reported a connection between nSR100 protein levels and autism. But this time we show that reduced levels of this protein could really be the reason—that’s a big deal. Just by reducing the nSR100 levels by 50 per cent, we observe clear signs of autistic behavior.”Autism—which is known best for changing social behavior—is a mental disorder affecting more than one per cent of the population. While its origins are genetic(基因的), the real causes are known in only a very small number of cases.1.What does the underlined “nSR100” in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?A.A normal brain development.B.A kind of protein.C.The brain of an expert.D.The wiring of the brain.2.Which of the people might have autism according to the third paragraph?A.Peter who is fond of sports with friends in the open air.B.Paul who is noisy and interested in school activities.C.Tom who is afraid of taking part in a birthday party.D.Jim who is easily angry and unwilling to work hard at school.3.Where does Dr Sabine Cordes probably come from?A.China.B.The USA.C.Germany.D.Canada.4.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A.Autism can best change social behavior in a mental order.B.Researchers have only understood a little about autism so far.C.More than one percent of the population affect autism.D.Researchers believe autism has nothing to do with gene.Since moving to New Zealand from Australia to raise our new family, my husband Mike and I have been living on a small income, as he is the only one who is working full time. Neither of ushave debt, nor do we use credit cards to buy things. In doing so, we are doing fairly well. We have savings(存款), but this could change very quickly if we’re not careful. So how do we manage? We sat down and really looked at what we could afford to spend each month on rent, food, baby things, and anything extra. We were pretty astonished at how little we would have left at the end of each month.Mike suggested we eat only vegetable meals at home, so for the past four months we’ve been on a vegetable diet. I was really impressed when he suggested this, as it also betters our health and helps the environment. We’re active gardeners and we recently start to grow our own vegetables. The growing season is long here, so we’re pretty excited when imagining eating good home-grown vegetables all the year round. We hardly ever eat out now and on most weekends we can be found picking up fresh vegetables from the local farmers’ market. Except getting some fried fish, we’re really turning into home cooking—and this is a huge difference from our time in Perth.Thankfully, our life on a small income has been an eye opener in such a positive way. We’re really pleased we’ve managed to get through our first year without turning to our savings. We are really looking forward to what the future holds for us here in New Zealand.5.What can we learn about the author’s family according to the first paragraph?A.They move from New Zealand to Australia.B.They are enjoying a rich life happily.C.They have to be very careful with money.D.They pay their debt with credit cards.6.Why were the author and her husband astonished at the end of each month?A.Because they could afford to spend on rent each month.B.Because they didn’t have much money left then.C.Because they sat down and really looked at each other.D.Because Mike was the only one who was working full time.7.According to the author, what’s the advantage of eating vegetable meals at home?A.It can make people healthier.B.It might pollute the environment.C.It can make others really impressed.D.It can help people go on a diet.8.Which can be the best title for the passage?A.Living On A Small Income.B.Eating Vegetables.C.Eating At Home.D.Active Gardeners.Michelle Swan, a 33-year-old mother, says she was ordered off a bus into the cold and rainby the driver because one of her twin toddlers(学步的小孩)was crying.Michelle Swan says the driver stopped the bus angrily, walked up to her and shouted at her to shut up her son and get off the bus. Besides, the traditional method also uses a lot of water to control weeds as herbicides are costly and often do not distinguish between the rice and the unwanted weeds.Government scientists said the new rice varieties contain a gene that would allow farmers to spray a common, inexpensive herbicide without worrying about any side effects. “Our focus is very hi gh on new seeds that can be adapted to new conditions, especially in changing climates,” Modi said.Water conservation is likely to be the main attraction of the new rice varieties in India, where farmers rely heavily on the monsoon (季风) rain. The traditional method uses 3,000 to 5,000 liters of water to produce 1 kg of rice. The new varieties could cut water use by at least 50% to 60%, farmers and government officials say. “For farmers like us, the main concern was the management of water, and the new varieties take care of that concern,” said Ravindra Kajal, who grows rice on his 9acre farmland in the northern state of Haryana. India is the world's secondlargest rice producer after China.7.Which is the benefit of the new rice?A.It can produce herbicides.B.It can be planted in any field.C.It needs a lot of water to grow.D.It can save money for farmers.8.Why can farmers apply a common herbicide to the new rice? A.The new rice contains herbicides itself.B.The herbicide is suitable for all rice varieties.C.The gene in the new rice can avoid harm from the herbicide. D.The herbicide can distinguish the rice from the weeds. 9.What plays an important role in riceplanting in India? A.Water. B.Temperature.C.Wind. 全国名校最新模拟题(共八篇)Passage 1 (2022年北京卷)My name is Alice. Early last year, I was troubled by an anxiety that crippled ( 削弱) my ability to do anything. I felt like a storm cloud hung over me. For almost a year I struggled on, constantly staring at this wall that faced me. My perfectionist tendencies were the main root of this: I wanted to be perfect at whatever I did, which obviously in life is not possible, but it consumed me.One day, I attended a presentation by wildlife conservationist Grant Brown at my high school. His presentation not only awed and inspired me, but also helped emerge an inner desire to make a difference in the world. I joined a pre-presentation dinner with him and that smaller setting allowed me to slowly build up my courage to speak one-on-one with him—an idea that had seemed completely impossible. This first contact was where my story began.A month later, Brown invited me to attend the World Youth Wildlife Conference. Looking back, I now see that this would be the first in a series of timely opportunities that my old self would have let pass, but that this new andmore confident Alice enthusiastically seized. Shortly after I received his invitation, applications to join the Youth for Nature and the Youth for Planet groups were sent around through my high school. I decided to commit to completing the applications, and soon I was a part of a growing global team of young people working to protect nature. Each of these new steps continued to grow my confidence.I am writing this just six months since my journey began and I’ve realised that my biggest obstacle ( 障碍) this whole time was myself. It was that voice in the back of my head telling me that one phrase that has stopped so many people from reaching their potential: I can’t. They say good things come to those who wait; I say: grab every opportunity with everything you have and be impatient. After all, nature does not require our patience, but our action.4.What was the main cause for Alice’s anxiety?A.Her inability to act her age.B.Her habit of consumption.C.Her desire to be perfect.D.Her lack of inspiration.5.How did Grant Brown’s presentation influence Alice?A.She decided to do something for nature.B.She tasted the sweetness of friendship.C.She learned about the harm of desire.D.She built up her courage to speak up.6.The activities Alice joined in helped her to become more ________.A.intelligent B.confident C.innovative D.critical7.What can we learn from this passage?A.Practice makes perfect.B.Patience is a cure of anxiety.C.Action is worry’s worst enemy.D.Everything comes to those who wait.4.C5.A6.B7.C【导语】这是一篇记叙文。
