Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen:Today I would like to begin with a story. There was once a physical therapist who traveled all the way from America to Africa to do a census about mountain gorillas. These gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over the world; this put them severely under threat of poaching and being put into the zoo. She went there out of curiosity, but what she saw strengthened her determination to devote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas cuddled their babies.Yes, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs. Diana Fossey, who spent most of her lifetime in Rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a timeless reminder that we should not developthe tourist industry at the cost of our eco-environment.Today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatened by so many new problems. On the one hand, tourism, as one of the most promising industries in the 21st century, provides people with the great opportunity to see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go. It has e a lifestyle for some people, and has turned out to be the driving force in GDP growth. It has the magic to turn a backward town into a wonderland of prosperity. But on the other hand, many problems can occur - natural scenes aren't natural anymore. Deforestation to heat lodges are devastating Nepal. Oil spills from tourist boats are polluting Antarctica. Tribal people are forsaking their native music and dress to listen to U2 on Walkman and wear Nike and Reeboks. All these appalling facts have brought us to the realization that we can no longer stand by and do nothing, because the very thought of it has been eroding our resources. Encouragingly, the explosive growth of global travel has put tourism again in the spotlight, which is why the United Nations has made 2002 the year of ecotourism, for the first time to bring to the world's attention the benefits of tourism, but also its capacity to destroy our ecoenvironment. Now every year, many local ecoenvironmental protection organizations are receiving donations - big notes, small notes or even coins - from housewives, plumbers, ambulance drivers, salesmen, teachers, children and invalids. Some of them cannot afford to send the money but they do. These are the ones who drive the cabs, who nurse in hospitals, who are suffering from ecological damage in their neighborhood. Why? Because they care. Because they still want their Mother Nature back. Because they know it still belongs to them. This kind of feeling that I have, ladies and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, smells like it, and looks like it , it's all ing from a scene to be remembered, a scene to recall and to cherish. The other night, as I saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs.I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to something else, someplace else, a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seemed to have been except the deer. And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it's time for us to do something, for our own and our ing generation.Once again, I have e to think of Mrs. Diana Fossey because it is with her spirit, passion, courage and strong sense of our ecoenvironment that we are taking our next step into the world. And no matter who we are, what we do and where we go, in our minds, there's always a scene to remember, a scene worth our effort to protect it and fight for it.Thank you very much. To me March 28th was a lucky day. It was on that particular evening that I found myself at central stage, in the spotlight. Winning the ”21st Century·Ericsson Cup” Seventh National English Speaking Competition is a memory that I shall treasure and one that will surely stay.More important than winning the Cup is the friendship that has been established and developed among the contestants, and the chance to municate offstage in addition to peting onstage. Also the petition helps boost public speaking in China, a skill hitherto undervalued. For me, though, the petition is a more personal experience. Habitually shy, I had been reluctant to take part in any such activities. Encouraged by my friends, however, I made a last-minute decision to give it a try. In the course of preparation I somehow rediscovered myself, a truer me.I found that, after all, I like municating with other people; that exchanging views can be so much fun—and so much rewarding, both emotionally and intellectually; that public speaking is most effective when you are least guarded; and that it is essential to success in every walk of life.At a more practical level, I realized knowing what you are going to say and how you are going to say it are equally important. To take the original ideas out of your head and transplant them, so to speak, to that of others, you need to have an organized mind. This ability improves with training.Yet there should not be any loss or addition or distortion in the process. Those ideas that finally find their way into another head need to be recognizably yours. Language is a means to transmit information, not a means to obstruct munication. It should be lucid to be penetrating. In China, certain public speaking skills have been unduly emphasized. Will it really help, we are pelled to ask, to bang at the podium or yell at the top of your lungs, if you have e with a poorly organized speech, a muddled mind, and unwillingness totruly share your views?Above all, the single most important thing I learnt was that as a public speaker, you need to pay attention, first and foremost, to the content of your speech. And second, the structure of your speech: how one idea relates and progresses to another.Only after these e delivery and non-verbal munication: speed control, platform manner, and so on. Pronunciation is important, yet of greater importance is this: Is your language petent enough to express your ideas exactly the way you intend them to be understood?I was informed afterwards that I was chosen to be the winner for my ”appropriately worded speech, excellent presence and quick-witted response”. In so remarking, the judges clearly showed their preference: they e to listen for meaningful ideas, not for loose judgments, nor easy laughters. Some contestants failed to address their questions head on. Some were able to, but did not know where to stop—the dragging on betrayed their lack of confidence. The root cause was that they did not listen attentively to the questions. Or they were thinking of what they had prepared. As I said in my speech, ”It is vitally important that we youngpeople do more serious thinking . to take them [issues like globalization] on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges ing our way”. We need to respond honestly.A petition like this draws talented students from all over the country. And of course, I learnt more things than just about public speaking. Since in the final analysis, public speaking is all about effective munication. And this goes true for all munications, whatever their setting. And the following is the final version of my speech:__ZATION: __NITIES AND __GES FOR CHINA'S __ __IONThirty years ago, American President Richard Nixon made an epoch-making visit to China, a country still isolated at that time. Premier Zhou Enlai said to him, ”Your handshake came ov er the vastest ocean in the world—twenty-five years of no munication”. Thirty years since, China and America have exchanged many handshakes. The fundamental implication of this example is that the need to municate across differences in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but by many other nations as well.As we can see today, environmentalists from differentcountries are making joint efforts to address the issue of global warming, economists are seeking solutions to financial crises that rage in a particular region but nonetheless cripple the world economy, and politicians and diplomats are getting together to discuss the issue of bating terrorism. Peace and prosperity has e a mon goal that we are striving for all over the world. Underlying this mighty trend of global munication is the echo of E. M. Forster's words ”Only connect!”With the IT revolution, traditional boundaries of human society fall away. Our culture, politics, society and merce are being sloshed into one large melting pot of humanity. In this interlinked world, there are no outsiders, for a disturbance in one place is likely to impact other parts of the globe. We have begun to realize that a world divided cannot endure.China is now actively integrating into the world. Our recent entry to the WTO is a good example. For decades, we have taken pride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importance of participating in and contributing to a broader economic order. From a precarious role in the world arena to our present WTO membership, we have e a long way.But what does the way ahead look like? In some parts of theworld people are demonstrating against globalization. Are they justified, then, in criticizing the globalizing world? Instead of narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables the developed nations to swallow the developing nations' wealth in debts and interest. Globalization, they argue, should be about a mon interest in every other nation's economic health. We are reminded by Karl Marx that capital goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity. This has e a reality. Multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the most favourable policy. They are often powerful lobbyists in government decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market and a devastating presence to local businesses. For China, still more challenges exist. How are we going to ensure a smooth transition from the planned economy to a market-based one? How to construct a legal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? How to maintain our cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? And how to define greatness in our rise as a peace-loving nation? Globalization entails questions thatconcern us all.Like many young people my age in China, I want to see my country get prosperous and enjoy respect in the international munity. But it seems to me that mere patriotism is not just enough. It is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues. There might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges ing our way. This is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech. I'm grateful that I've been given this opportunity, at such a historic moment, to stand here as a spokesman of my generation and to take a serious look back at the past 15 years, a crucial period for every one of us and for this nation as well.Though it is only within my power to tell about my personal experience, and only a tiny fragment of it at that, it still represents, I believe, the root of a spirit which has been essential to me and to all the people bred by the past 15 years. In my elementary years, there was a little girl in the class whoworked very hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons. The teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she expected a lot from me. but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, I always tried to evade her so as to get more time to enjoy myself. One day before the final exam, she came up to me and said, Could you please explain this to me? I want very much to do better this time. I started explaining, and finished in a hurry. Pretending not to notice her still confused eyes, I ran off quickly. Nat surprisingly, she again did very badly in the exam. And two months later, at the beginning of the new semester, word came of her death of blood cancer. No one ever knew about the little task I failed to fulfill, but I couldn't forgive myself. I simply couldn't forget her eyes, which seem to be asking, Why didn't you do a little more to help me, when it was so easy for you? Why didn't you understand a little better the trust placed in you, so that I would not have to leave this world in such pain and regret?I was about eight or nine years old at that time, but in a way it was the very starting point of my life, for I began to understand the word responsibility and to learn to always do my dutiesfaithfully and devotedly, for the implications of that sacred word has dawned on me: the mutual need and trust of people, the co-operation and inter-reliance which are the very foundation of human society.Later in my life, I continued to experience many failures. But never again did I feel that regret which struck me at the death of the girl, for it makes my heart satisfied to think that I have always done everything in my power to fulfill my responsibilities as best I can. From Walls to BridgesI'm studying in a city famous for its walls. All visitors to my city are amazed by the imposing sight of the city walls, silhouetted by the setting sun with gold and shining lines. With old, cracked bricks patched with lichen, the walls are weather-beaten guards, standing still for centuries in protecting the city. Our ancestors liked to build walls. They built walls in Beijing, Xi'an, Nanjing and many other cities, and they built the Great Wall, which snakes through half of our country. They built walls to ward off enemies and evil spirits. This tradition has been maintained to this day as we still have many parks and schools walled off fromthe public. I grew up at the foot of the city walls, and I've loved them since my childhood. For a long time, walls were one of the most natural things in the world. My perception, however, changed after a hiking trip to the Eastern Suburbs, a scenic area of my city. My classmates and I were walking with some international students. As we walked out of the city, we found ourselves flanked by taller and taller trees, which formed a huge canopy above our heads. Suddenly an international student asked me, “Where is the entrance to the Eastern Suburbs?""We're already in the Eastern Suburbs," I replied. He seemed taken aback, "I thought you Chinese have walls for everything." His remark set off a heated debate. At one point, he likened our walled cities to "jails," while I insisted that the Eastern Suburbs were one of the many places in China that had no walls. That debate had no winners, but I did learn a lot from this international student. For instance, he told me that universities like Oxford and Cambridge were not surrounded by walls; the campuses were just part of the cities. I have to admit that we do have many walls in China, and as we are developing our country,we must carefully examine them, whether they are physical or intangible. We will keep some walls but tear down those that impede China's development.Let me give you an example.A year ago, when I was working on a term paper, I needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library. However, the librarian turned down my request with a cold shoulder, saying, "You can't borrow this book, you are not a student here." In the end, I had to spend 200 yuan buying a copy; meanwhile, the copy in law school was gathering dust on the shelf. At the beginning of this semester, I heard that my university has started not only to unify its libraries but also link them up with libraries of other universities, so my experience will not be repeated. Barriers will be replaced by bridges. Through an inter-library loan system, we will have access to books from any library. With globalization, with China integrated into the world, I believe many of these intangible walls will be knocked down.I know globalization is a controversial issue, and it is hard to say whether it is good or bad. But one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to China's tangible and intangible walls and forces us to examine their roles in the modern world. And how about the ancient walls in my city and other cities? Should we tear them down? Just the opposite. My city, like Beijing and other cities, is actually making a great effort to preserve the walls. These walls attract not only historians and archeologists but also many schoolchildren trying to study our history and cultural heritage. Walls have turned into bridges to our past and to the rest of the world. If the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today, they would be proud to see such great change in the role of their walls. They are now bridges that link East and West, South and North, and all countries of the world. Our cultural heritage will survive globalization第五篇:英语冠军演讲稿范文Adolescence and old age are the two stages in our lives when the need for friendship is crucial. In the former stage, older people are upset by feelings of uselessness and insignificance. In both instances, friends can make a dramatic difference. With close friends in their lives, people develop courage and positive attitudes. Teenagers have the moral support to assert their individuality; the elderly apporoach their advaanced years with optimism and an interest in life. These positive outlooks are vital to cope successfully with the crises inherent in these two stagesof life.Throughout life, we rely on small groups of people for love, admiration, respect, moral support, and help. Almost everyone has a network of friends: co-workers, neighbors, and schoolmates. While both men and women have such friends, evidence is accumulating that indicates men rarely make close friends. Men are sociable and frequently have numerous business acquaintances, golfbuddies, and so on. However, firendship does not merely involve a sharing of activities; it is a sharing of self on a very personal level. Customatily, men have shied froem close relationships in which they confide in others. By bottling up their emotions, men deprive themselves of a healthy outlet for their negativete feeling.Very cloes and trusted friends share confidences candidly. They feel secure that they will not be ridiculed or derided, and their confidences will be bonored. Betraying a trust is a very quick and painful way to terminate a friedship.Circumstance and people are constantly changing. Some friedships last forever ; others do not. Nerertheless, friendship is an essential ingredient in the making of a healthful, rewarding life.I am sure that I will realize my dream one day!Thank you!。

Globalization: Challenges and Opportunities for China's Younger Generation演讲主题:全球化:中国年轻一代所面临的机遇与挑战Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen. Today I’m very happy to be here to share with you some of my thoughts on the topic of Globalization. And first of all, I would like to mention an event in our recent history.
Thirty years ago, American President Richard Nixon made an epoch-making visit to China, a country still isolated at that time. Premier Zhou Enlai said to him, “Your handshake came over the vastest ocean in the world - twenty-five years of no communication.” Ever since then, China and America have exchanged many handshakes of various kinds. The fundamental implication of this example is that the need and desire to communicate across differences in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but by many other nations as well.

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen; When I first saw the topic set for this contest,I suddenly recalled a conversation with an Indian-American lady during the annual forum(讨论会)of the young presidents' organization. She told me she was impressed by the student volunteers in two respects: first, all the students could speak very good English;second, many of them know a lot about western culture and society.but when it come to some issue of Chinese culture from time to time they stammered and stuttered(口吃)Why so?She was baffled. And I explained that for students in china, fluent language with an authentic accent has always been the main if not the only criterion for good English.Well, you see.She told me: “though I've been living in the states for many years, I've still got an Indian accent, but that is nothing to be ashamed of.What is more important is how to bring your own culture to the outer world b y using this language.” up till this day, this very moment, her words have still kept echoing in my ears. And I suddenly realized that the process of globalization is somewhat similar to that of language learning. In the process of globalization, when every nation is busy learning the common rules, regulations and even the language, we also have to pay equal-if not greater attention to our culture, to our national identity.how to preserve and maintain our own cultural integrity(完整),this is the biggest challenge for us young people.when standing on the threshold of the new era, young people are provided with unprecedented(空前)opportunities.via the internet, now we are just a click away from the most up-to-date information;cooperation has transcended(超越)all the national boundaries and geographical distance; And now we can have our part to play in a broader stage, a global stage.Yet, when china accelerates its pace of opening up to the whole world, just as the case of language learning, many youngsters are also losing themselves in the ocean of western cultures. My dear fellow student, ask ourselves when we are getting more and more attracted to Hollywood blockbusters, how many of us have ever enjoyed Peking opera with the same enthusiasm? Ask ourselves if we can tell foreign guests about our own culture as much as they may tell us about theirs.Ask ourselves when we are busy following the fashion of those Korean HipHops, can we create our own style which they may also exclaim, “wow, that's cool!” and here is the crux(症结)of the matter: globalization should not be a huge melting pot into which people of uniqueness only to come out all the same;It should not be a process in which countries gradually lose their identities. To my understanding, it should be a grand orchestra: an orchestra in which every player has his particular position and function;an orchestra where the uniqueness of every member is so cherished that anyone's role is irreplaceable by anyone else;an orchestra based on the joint contribution of every participant, which can and will produce the most beautiful symphony of tomorrow's peace and prosperity.my dear fellow students, our older generation have created a very splendid culture, and now it's our duty to carry the work on, to strive for a more beautiful future.I hope next time, when the lady again comes to china, she will not only marvel at we Chinese young people using fluent English introducing our magnificent culture, but also see that we are not only eager to learn but also eager to tell.We are telling the whole world, “Yes, we have madea difference!” thank you very much!actually, this is a very interesting topic and I'm very glad that here I can share my opinion of this topic with you.Frankly speaking, I enjoyed going to zoo very much because I think it has provided us with a very good opportunity to get entertainment.and also it can provided us with a good chance to be nearer to the nature.but, my opinion has changed since my last visit to a zoo actually in that zoo, the elephants have caught the whole spotlight, because they were so cute and they can do various tricks and performance. ItwasonthatparticulareveningthatIfoundmyselfatcentralstage,inthespotlight.Winningthe“21stCentury·EricssonCup”SeventhNationalEnglishSpeakingCompetitionisamemorythatIshalltreasureandonethatwillsurelystay.
第七届全国英语演讲比赛冠军得主演讲稿演讲范文to me march 28th was a lucky day. it was on that particularevening that i found myself at central stage, in the spotlight. winning the 21st century·ericsson cup seventhnational english speaking competition is a memory that i shalltreasure and one that will surely stay.more important than winning the cup is the friendship that hasbeen established and developed among the contestants, and thechance to communicate offstage in addition to competingonstage. also the competition helps boost public speaking inchina, a skill hitherto undervalued.for me, though, the competition is a more personal experience.habitually shy, i had been reluctant to take part inany suchactivities. encouraged by my friends, however, i made alast-minute decision to give it a try. in the course ofpreparation i somehow rediscovered myself, a truer me.i found that, after all, i like communicating with otherpeople; that exchanging views can be so much fun —and so muchrewarding, both emotionally and intellectually; that publicspeaking is most effective when you are least guarded; andthat it is essential to success in every walk of life.at a more practical level, i realized knowing what you aregoing to say and how you are going to say it are equallyimportant. to take the original ideas out of your head andtransplant them, so to speak, to that of others, you need tohave an organized mind. this ability improves with training.yet there should not be any loss or addition or distortion inthe process. those ideas that finally find their way intoanother head need to be recognizably yours. language is ameans to transmit information, not a means to obstructcommunication. it should be lucid to be penetrating.in china, certain public speaking skills have been undulyemphasized. will it really help, we are compelled to ask, tobang at the podium or yell at the top of your lungs, if youhave come with a poorly organized speech, a muddled mind, andunwillingness to truly share your views?above all, the single most important thing i learnt was thatas a public speaker, you need to pay attention, first andforemost, to the content of your speech. and second, thestructure of your speech: how one idea relates and progressesto another.only after these come delivery and non-verbal communication:speed control, platform manner, and so on. pronunciation isimportant, yet of greater importance is this: is your languagecompetent enough to express your ideas exactly the way youintend them to be understood?i was informed afterwards that i was chosen to be the winnerfor my appropriately worded speech, excellentpresence andquick-witted response. in so remarking, the judges clearlyshowed their preference: they come to listen for meaningfulideas, not for loose judgments, nor easy laughters.some contestants failed to address their questions head on.some were able to, but did not know where to stop—the draggingon betrayed their lack of confidence. the root cause was thatthey did not listen attentively to the questions. or they werethinking of what they had prepared.as i said in my speech, it is vitally important that we youngpeople do more serious thinking ... to take them [issues likeglobalization] on and give them honest thinking is the firststep to be prepared for both opportunities andchallengescoming our way. we need to respond honestly.a competition like this draws talented students from all overthe country. and of course, i learnt more things than justabout public speaking. since in thfinal analysis, publicspeaking is all about effective communication. and this goestrue for all communications, whatever their setting.and the following is the final version of my speech: globalization:opportunities and challengesfor chinas younger generationthirty years ago, american president richard nixon made anepoch-making visit to china, a country still isolated at thattime. premier zhou enlai said to him, your handshake cameover the vastest ocean in the world—twenty-fiveyears of nocommunication. thirty years since, china and america haveexchanged many handshakes. the fundamental implication of thisexample is that the need to communicate across differences inculture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries butmany other nations as well.as we can see today, environmentalists from differentcountries are making joint efforts to address the issue ofglobal warming, economists are seeking solutions to financialcrises that rage in a particular region but nonethelesscripple the world economy, and politicians and diplomats aregetting together to discuss the issue of combating terrorism.peace and prosperity has become a common goal that we arestriving for all over the world. underlying this mighty trendof global communication is the echo of e. m. forsters wordsonly connect!with the it revolution, traditional boundaries of humansociety fall away. our culture, politics, society and commerceare being sloshed into one large melting pot of humanity. inthis interlinked world, there are no outsiders, for a disturbance in one place is likely to impact other parts ofthe globe. we have begun to realize that a world dividedcannot endure.china is now actively integrating into the world. our recententry to the wto is a good example. for decades,we have takenpride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importanceof participating in and contributing to a broader economicorder. from a precarious role in the world arena to ourpresent wto membership, we have come a long way.but what does the way ahead look like? in some parts of theworld people are demonstrating against globalization. are theyjustified, then, in criticizing the globalizing world? insteadof narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables the developed nations to swallow the developing nations wealth in debts and interest. globalization, they argue, should be about a common interest in every other nations economic health.we are reminded by karl marx that capital goes beyondnational borders and eludes control from any other entity. this has become a reality. multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the most favourable policy. they are often powerful lobbyists in government decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market and a devastating presence to local businesses.for china, still more challenges exist. how are we going to ensure a smooth transition from the planned economy to a market-based one? how to construct a legal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? how to maintain our cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? and howto define greatness in our rise as a peace-loving nation? globalization entails questions that concern us all. like many young people my age in china, i want to see my country get prosperous and enjoy respect in te international community. but it seems to me that mere patriotism is not just enough. it is vitallyimportant that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues. there might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. this is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech. Our Future: A Battle between Dreams and 曹丰Our Future: A Battle between Dreams and RealityGood afternoon, ladies and gentlemen:When I was in the primary school, I have a dream. I want to invent a device which could bring you from one place to another in no time at all. When I was in the secondary school, my dream was to study in my ideal university. And when eventually I got into the university, my dream was to graduate. How pathetic! When we grow up, we dream less and become more realistic. Why? Why do we have to change our dreams, so, so in order to let it be "fulfilled"? Why do we have to surrender to the so-called "reality"? What IS the reality actually?Ladies and gentlemen, the reality is not real. It is a barrier keeping us from all the possible fantasies. Flying, for example, had been a dream to mankind for thousands of years. A hundred years ago, "man could not fly" was still regarded as the "reality". Now if that was really the reality, what did the Wright brothers do? How did some of you get to Macau? Only when we believe that the reality is not real can we soar with our dreams.People say that our future is a battle between the reality and our dreams. And if, unfortunately, Mr. Reality wins this war, then I see no future of mankind at all. AIDS will never be curable as this IS the reality; People living in the undeveloped countries will suffer from starvation forever as this IS the reality; 4)Disputes among different countries would never be settled as this misunderstandings and intolerance IS the reality.Ladies and gentlemen, how many of you have a dream of being able to make a lot of money? Please raise your hands. Oh, quite a number of you! Actually, ladies and gentlemen, this is not a dream, but a task. Every one of us has to make a living, right? Anyway I hope your task will be accomplished. How many of you think that you have already fulfilled your dream and that you don't dream anymore? Dear5)adjudicators, what do you think? C.S. Lewis once said, "You are never too old to dream a new dream." So for our future, please dream and be unrealistic. Now that I am a university student, my goal is to graduate with excellences. But at the same time, I have a dream deeply rooted in our future. One day, people living in the areas now 6)sweltering with the horror of wars will be able to sit with their families and enjoy their every moment. One day, people from the rich countries arewilling to share what they have with those from the poor countries and those from the poor countries will eventually be able to make their own happy living themselves. One day, different cultures in this age of globalization will coexist with tolerance and the unfriendly confrontations among them will be 7)eliminated. One day, the globe will share the dream with me and we will all contribute to making our dream come true. One day, our dream will defeat the reality! Thank you very much. Two-Way TrafficSeven centuries ago, Marco Polo, after staying in our country for almost twenty years, brought the secrets of spaghetti and ice-cream with him back to Italy. More than seven hundred years later, with the prevalence of globalization, our people, our food, our products and many other items, have traveled to many other places beyond Italy. No matter where these Chinese people, Chinese food, Chinese products and many other Chinese items are, they carry with them qualities that are unique to our very own Chinese culture - our traditional values. In the whole process of globalization that the world is integrating politically, economically and culturally, into one, we do witness in our country a great influx of western culture and values - McDonald's, KFCs, soccer players and NBA players. And we are even having this prestigious national speaking competition in a language that does not belong to us. In the midst of western products pouring in China as a result of globalization, sometimes we do wonder, where does our own culture belong? When we see our younger generations going away from traditional values such as contextual and role-based ethics, ideal of community, hierarchy, paternalism and non-litigious nature of society, we may even think our traditional values are challenged and even threatened. But, are we really losing our values?Ladies and gentlemen, we must remember, the traffic of globalization is two-way. Yes, films from Hollywood, soccer from the United Kingdom and restaurants from America, do have an impact on our values. But, if we see globalization in China a synonymous term with western economic cultural hegemony, we are underestimating the impact of not only globalization but also our values.Have a look at languages. Yes, it is the desire and dream of every single Chinese to speak fluent English, including every single one of us here. But, have you ever wondered how many non-Chinese are learning Chinese?Let me tell you, by the end of 2002, nearly 30 million people from 85 countries and regions were learning standard Chinese, Putonghua. And who knows about the number of people learning regional dialects such as Shanghainese and Cantonese. In these two years, I am sure none of us here will be surprised that the number is skyrocketing.Have a look at Feng Shui, within 0.21 seconds Google brings you 1,270,000 websites about Feng Shui, not in Chinese, not from all over the world, but in English, just within the United States. And I guess some of you still remember, when the previous American president, Bill Clinton, first became president. He actually had the furniture of his office rearranged according to feng shui ideas.Have a look at traditional Chinese medicine. Four years ago, in 2001, there were already more than 120 000 traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, researchers and related business trading companies in Europe, just Europe. Our holistic approach of taking care of a person's health has been proven popular in the world. Our values, language, our Feng Shui, our traditional medicine and also Kung Fu that I have not really talked about, are all parts and messengers of our culture and values. What does their success in the west tell us? Their popularity tells us that, alongside cheap consumer products, we are exporting to the west, Chinese beliefs and, values.Ladies and gentlemen, globalization, yes it has its impacts on our values. It is sending our values overseas and bringing in new ones. Let's not see the bringing in of new ones a threat to our own culture. As a matter of fact, the bringing in is a very good opportunity and time to rethink and reflect who we are and what we want to be. It is upon us whether globalization has a positive or negative impact on our traditional values. Ladies and gentlemen, I see this positively, I know even if our traditional values are changing or to change, the change is for better, not for worse.Thank you very much. The Impact of Globalization on Traditional Chinese ValuesGood morning, ladies and gentlemen:Before western and Chinese civilization came into close contact, Chinese people had always longed for a life depicted in traditional Chinese paintings. Those paintings present a harmonious coexistence of people and other life forms. Regarded as the essence of ancient Chinese philosophies, harmony has been deeply-rooted in the minds of the Chinese people. On the one hand, it has contributed to the unique continuity of Chinese civilization. On the other, Chinese people became too much contented with their achievements to desire any further changes. As globalization deepens, it is bound to affect our ideal of harmony.First, globalization urges China to speed up its modernization, which threatens our regard for the harmony between Man and Nature. For instance, many dams and hydropower stations are being built for economic benefits at the expense of the well-preserved natural habitats. However, ecological malpractice of such kind goes against the notion of harmonious coexistence in ancient Chinese philosophies. More than 2,000 years ago, long before the concept of environmental protection came into being, DuJiang Weir, a great irrigation project was built in southwestern China's Sichuan province. It succeeded both in controlling floods and in facilitating the agriculture without posing a threat to the environment. Moreover, globalization has brought with it intense competition. Traditionally, moderation is a golden principle, presiding overinter-personal relations in China. Today, however, motivated to come to the top, some people become so self-centered that they choose to sacrifice love, friendship and even family ties.Last but not least, diverse cultures have met in China as a consequence of globalization. Therefore, a clash of cultures becomes inevitable. Unfortunately, the past decades have witnessed a huge loss of cultural heritage in China. In cities like Beijing and Xi'an, hundreds of century-old Chinese-style houses are being demolished to make room for skyscrapers, shopping malls and eight-lane expressways. From these examples, we see the disharmony brought about by globalization. Yet it is not globalization that is to blame. As long as we approach globalization with harmony in mind, its benefit will outweigh its cost. Take my hometown, Hangzhou, for example, thanks to the strenuous efforts made by the municipal government in achieving eco-development, various water birds have returned to the West Lake, calling it home again after years of migration elsewhere. From the lake bank, we see skateboarders and trick cyclists showing off together with people flying kites and kicking shuttlecocks on the plaza nearby. Although they compose a picture quite distinct from traditional Chinese paintings, this picture conveys a modern sense of harmony in this era of globalization.Ladies and gentlemen, to conclude, I would like to quote from British philosopher Bertrand Russell. In contrasting Chinese and Western civilizations, he observed: "The distinctive merit of westerncivilization is the scientific method; the distinctive merit of the Chinese is a just conception of the ends of life. It is these two that one must hope to see gradually uniting." As we see the tremendous progress China has been making drawing on experience abroad, we may also expect the Chinese traditional value of harmony to enrich the world. I look forward to the time when Russell's prophecy comes true.Thank you very much. This tradition has been maintained to this day as we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public. Suddenly an international student asked me, "Where is the entrance to the Eastern Suburbs?""We're already in the Eastern Suburbs," I replied. For instance, he told me that universities like Oxford andCambridge were not surrounded by walls; the campuses were just part of the cities. I have to admit that we do have many walls in China, and as we are developing our country, we must carefully examine them, whether they are physical or intangible. Our cultural heritage will survive第七届“21世纪杯”全国英语演讲比赛冠军——孙宁孙宁北京外国语大学1981年生于南京。

As I said in myspeech, It is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking ... to take them [issues like globalization] on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. We need to respond honestly. A competition like this draws talented students from all over the country. And of course, I learnt more things than just about public speaking.
TheDoorsthatareOpentoUsgood morning ladies and gentlemen:the title of my speech today is “the doors that are open to us “.the other day my aunt paid me a visit. she was overjoyed. “i got the highest mark in the mid-term ex amination!” she said. don’t be surprised! my aunt is indeed a student; to be exact, a college student at the age of 45.last year, she put aside her private business and signed up for a one-year, full-time management course in a college. “this was the wisest decision i have ever made,” she said proudly like a teenage girl. to her, college is always a right place to pick up new ideas, and new ideas always make her feel young.”pared with the late 70s,” she says, “now college students have many doors.” my aunt cannot help but recall her first college experience in 1978 when college doors began to be re-opened after the cultural revolution. she was assigned to study engineering despite her desire to study chinese literature, and a few years later, the government sent her to work in a tv factory.i was shocked when she first told me how she (had) had no choice in her major and job. look at us today! so many doors are open to us! i believe there have never been such abundant opportunities for self-development as we have today. and my aunt told me that we should reach our goals by grasping all these opportunities.the first door i see is the opportunity to study different kinds of subjects that interest us. my aunt said she was happy to study management, but she was also happy that she could attend lectures on ancient chinese poetry and on shakespearean drama. as for myself, i am english major, but i may also go to lectures on history. to me, if college education in the past emphasized specialization, now, it emphasizes free and well-round 《全国英语演讲比赛冠军演讲稿:the doors that are open to us》ed development of each individual. so all the fine achievements of human civilization are open to us.the second door is the door to the outside world. learning goes beyond classrooms and national boundaries. my aunt remembers her previous college days as monotonous and even calls her generation “frogs in a well.” but today, as the world bees a global village, it is important that our neighbors and we be open-minded to learn with and from each other.i have many fellow international classmates, and i am applying to an exchange program with a university abroad. as for my aunt, she is planning to get an mba degree in the united kingdom where her daughter, my cousin, is now doing her master’s degree in biochemistry. we are now taking the opportunity to study overseas, and when we e back, we’ll put to use what we have learnt abroad.the third door is the door to lifelong learning. as new ideas appear all the time, we always need to acquire new knowledge, regardless of our age. naturally, my aunt herself is the best example. many of my aunt’s contemporaries say that she is amazingly up-to-date for a middle-aged woman. she simply responds, “age doesn’t matter. what matters is your attitude. you may think it’s strange that i am still going to college, but i don’t think i’m too old to learn.” yes, she is right. since the government removed the age limit for college admissions in XX, there are already some untraditional students, sitting with us in the same classrooms. like these people, my aunt is old but she is very young in spirit. with her incredible energy and determination, she embodies both tradition and modernity.the doors open to us also pose challenges. for instance, we are faced with the challenge of a balanced learning, the challenge of pre 《全国英语演讲比赛冠军演讲稿:the doors that are open to us》serving our fine tradition while learning from the west, and the challenge of learning continuously while carrying heavy responsibilities to our work and family. so, each door is a test of our courage, ability and judgment, but with the support of my teachers, parents, friends and my aunt, i believe i can meet the challenge head on. when i reach my aunt’s age, i can be proud to say that i have walked through dozens of doorsand will, in the remainder of my life, walk through many more. possibly i will go back to college, too.thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen.

Globalization: Challenges and Opportunities for China's Younger GenerationGood morning, Ladies and Gentlemen:Today I'm very happy to be here to share with you some of my thoughts on the topic of Globalization. And first of all, I would like to mention an event in our recent history.Thirty years ago, American President Richard Nixon made an epoch-making visit to China, a country still isolated at that time. Premier Zhou Enlai said to him, "Your handshake came over the vastest ocean in the world - twenty-five years of no munication." Ever since then, China and America have exchanged many handshakes of various kinds. The fundamental implication of this example is that the need and desire to municate across differences in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but by many other nations as well.As we can see today, environmentalists from different countries are making joint efforts to address the issue of global warming, economists are seeking solutions to financial crises that rage in a particular region but no heless cripple the world's economy, and diplomats and politicians are getting together to discuss the issue of bating terrorism. Peace and prosperity has be e a mon goal that we are striving for all over the world. Underlying this mighty trend of globalization is the echo of E. M. Forster's words, "Only connect!"With the IT revolution taking place, traditional boundaries of human society fall away. Our culture, politics, society and merce are being sloshed into a large melting pot of humanity. From the precarious role in the world arena to our present WTO membership, we have e a long way.But what does the way ahead look like? In some parts of the world people are demonstrating against globalization. Are they justified then, in criticizing the globalizing world? Instead of narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables developed nations to swallow the developing nations' wealth in debts and interest. Globalization, they argue, should be about an earnestinterest in every other nation's economic health. We are reminded by Karl Marx that capital goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity. This has be e a reality. Multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the most favorable policy. They are often powerful lobbyists in ernment decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market place and a devastating presence to local businesses. Globalization entails questions that concern us all.Like many young people my age in China, I want to see my country get prosperous and enjoying respect in the international munity. But it seems to me that mere patriotism is not just enough. It is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues. And, there might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges ing our way. And this is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech. Thank you.

Such is human nature that …的;翻译课,老师问“萝卜青菜,各有所爱”怎么翻,很多人想都不想、张口就来:one man’s meat is another man’s poison。

I was seventeen, almost a senior in high school. I was riding my bike to school. I had taken a special route to pick up a gift, but that day, the road less traveled by led to disaster. Crossing a road, a drunk driver ran a red light, slammed into me, and shattered my left knee.It made all the difference.I was forced to postpone college, plunged into painful therapy . . . but eventually, I also learned much about life and myself. I found the strength to withstand adversity, learned compassion, and above all, I learned that the road not taken is not just about regrets or choices but also about the perpetual now and the always-coming future. When I first studied Robert Frosts The Road Not Taken in middle school, I was unable to grasp its ambiguity. I always thought that Frosts persona chooses a road less traveled by and lives life being subversive and irreverent. I was wrong. In the poem, both of the two roads that diverged in a yellow wood are actually about the same. But there has to be a choice, and sometimes, they it can be involuntary (as I learned the hard way). This makes me extremely thankful and resolute when I can make conscious choices and plan for the future, and so I know now that Frosts poem is also about the road not [yet] taken. For everyone, this means something slightly different. For me, it means constant vigilance, learning, and love. Our journey is hard, complex, and it often presents unexpected twists, but reflecting on the roads not taken and not yet taken each day gives us a little more strength and confidence. Life cannot and will not me perfect, and the truth is it will end. But as Willa Cather would say, The end is nothing, the road is all. The road not taken in the past, and the road not yet taken that lies ahead. But about the present? It joints the past and the future. What then, is the road not taken in the perpetual now? Personally, I find an answer in these lines from Alfred Lord Tennysons Ulysses:Tho much is taken, much abides; and thoughWe are not now that strength which in old daysMoved earth and heaven; that which we are, we areOne equal temper of heroic hearts,Made weak by time and fate, but strong in willTo strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.Thank you.
She witnessed a scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where in the very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers and butterflies, the mother gorillas cuddled their babies.Y es, that's a memorable scene in one of my favorite movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on a true story of Mrs. Diana Fossey, who spent most of her lifetime in Rwanda to protect the ecoenvironment there until the very end of her life.To me, the movie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a timeless reminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of our eco-environment.Today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatened by so many new problems. On the one hand, tourism, as one of the most promising industries in the 21st century, provides people with the great opportunity to see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go. It has become a lifestyle for some people, and has turned out to be the driving force in GDP growth. This kind of feeling that I have, ladies and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, smells like it, and looks like it , it's all coming from a scene to be remembered, a scene to recall and to cherish. The other night, as I saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent into the invisible, my mind was filled with songs. I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to something else, someplace else, a place remembered, a place untouched, a field of grass where no one seemed to have been except the deer. And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it's time for us to do something, for our own and our coming generation.Once again, I have come to think of Mrs. This tradition has been maintained to this day as we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public. Suddenly an international student asked me, "Where is the entrance to the Eastern Suburbs?""We're already in the Eastern Suburbs," I replied. For instance, hetold me that universities like Oxford and Cambridge were not surrounded by walls; the campuses were just part of the cities. I have to admit that we do have many walls in China, and as we are developing our country, we must carefully examine them, whether they are physical or intangible. We will keep some walls but tear down those that impede China's development.Let me give you an example.A year ago, when I was working on a term paper, I needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library. However, the librarian turned down my request with a cold shoulder, saying, "Y ou can't borrow this book, you are not a student here." In the end, I had to spend 200 yuan buying a copy; meanwhile, the copy in law school was gathering dust on the shelf. Our cultural heritage will survive globalization。
