Some lanterns even have riddles written on them.On Lantern Festival night, everyone goes outside after sunset carrying their lanterns. We walk around the neighborhood admiring each other's lanterns and trying to solve the riddles. The streets look so magical with hundreds of glowing lanterns bobbing in the darkness!Another fun tradition is eating tangyuan, which are delicious little dumplings made of sticky rice flour. Parks and public spaces set up big outdoor shows with dancers, acrobats, and music. My little brother's favorite part is always the dragon dances and lion dances with the huge colorful puppets! Some people also enjoy watching fireworks and setting off firecrackers on Lantern Festival night. The day before, my dad helps me and my sister pick out our own little firecrackers to light off. We have to be very careful though and an adult always supervises.Of course, no festival in China is complete without lots and lots of yummy food! For the Lantern Festival, some popularsnacks are tang yuan, sticky rice balls, and glutinous rice cakes. My grandma makes the most amazing peanut and sesame brittle that she only makes for this special occasion. We also eat big family reunion dinners with dumplings, whole steamed fish, spring rolls, and other lucky foods. I always look forward to the dinner because it means getting red envelopes with money from my aunts, uncles, and grandparents! After dinner, the whole family goes out together to enjoy the Lantern Festival activities. We play games, watch the performances, and walk around admiring everyone's beautiful lanterns. We have to be very careful not to lose our lanterns in the big crowds! One year, my lantern blew away and I was so sad. But a nice teenager found it down the street and brought it back to me. I was so relieved because I had worked really hard decorating that lantern with my best friend. We used colorful paper, glue, glitter, and drew our favorite cartoon characters all over it.My absolute favorite part of Lantern Festival night is the huge elaborate lantern displays they set up in parks and public spaces. The lanterns are enormous and made in the shapes of animals, buildings, cartoon characters, you name it! They are made of beautifully painted silk and lit up from the inside.Last year, there was a gigantic lantern shaped like the famous Terracotta Warriors statues. It was incredible, with every single warrior's face and details perfectly recreated just using colored silk and lights. My dad had to drag me away because I just wanted to keep staring at it all night. The Lantern Festival is such a magical, exciting time of year for kids in China. I feel so lucky to grow up celebrating this holiday every year. It's the best way to finish off the Spring Festival and welcome in the new year with light, fun, togetherness, and hope for a wonderful year to come. Those are just some of the awesome things we do for the Lantern Festival in China. Let me know if you have any other questions about this special holiday and its traditions! I'm always happy to share more about my favorite time of year.篇2My Favorite Chinese Festival - The Lantern Festival!Hi friend! Today I want to tell you all about one of my favorite Chinese festivals - the Lantern Festival! It's also called Yuan Xiao Jie in Chinese. This fun festival happens every year on the 15th day of the first month in the Chinese lunar calendar. That means it's always sometime in February or March based on the regular Western calendar you might use.The Lantern Festival celebrates the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations. Chinese New Year is the biggest and most important festival we have in China. The New Year celebrations actually last for 2 whole weeks! Can you imagine having that many days off from school? During those 2 weeks, we have lots of special traditions like giving out red envelopes with money, watching dragon dances, eating special dumplings and other yummy foods, and setting off firecrackers and fireworks. It's SO much fun!But after those 2 big celebration weeks are over, we still have one more festival to look forward to - the Lantern Festival on the last day! On that night, we go outside and there are beautiful lanterns everywhere you look, lighting up the streets and parks. Some lanterns are hung from buildings and trees, and some are even bigger lanterns made into cool shapes of animals or characters that we carry around! My favorite is when there are huge lantern displays set up of famous scenes or stories. One year I saw a whole section of the park filled with lanterns that showed scenes from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West about the Monkey King! The most popular tradition for the Lantern Festival is carrying around our own little lanterns. My brother and I always get new lanterns every year - there are different kinds you can get like round ones, animal shapes, or even funny cartoon characters! Some kids get fancier lanterns made out of silk with pretty decorations and paintings on them. But I like the simple little ones you can paint yourself. My brother always wants to get a lantern shaped like a dragon or dinosaur, but I like getting cute animal ones like a bunny or panda!Once it starts to get dark outside, we all go out with our lanterns and walk around the neighborhood parks and streets. It looks so magical with everyone's colorful lanterns glowing in the darkness! We play games while we walk around carrying our lanterns, like trying to solve riddles or having little contests for finding things hidden around the area. The classic snack food to eat during Lantern Festival is tang yuan, which are sweet sticky rice balls in hot ginger soup. I especially love the ones filled with black sesame or red bean paste inside - so yummy! You can find lots of little street vendors selling tang yuan and other snacks at the parks during the festival.Another super fun tradition for kids is getting to set off firecrackers and fireworks again like we did for Chinese New Year!My dad always buys a big pack of firecrackers from the market stalls in the days before the festival. Then at night my brother and I take turns lighting strings of firecrackers and watching them crackle and pop while we run around. The brilliant fireworks displays are the best part though - the whole sky gets lit up in a rainbow of colors exploding everywhere you look! It's such an exciting and beautiful way to end the night of the Lantern Festival. My favorite memories from past Lantern Festivals are the years when my grandparents would come stay with us for the whole 2 week New Year celebration period. On the night of the Lantern Festival, my grandma would tell us traditional stories and legends associated with the festival as we walked around carrying our lanterns. Let me share one of those cool stories with you!A long time ago, there were these two brave Buddhist monks named Feng Qiu and Yuan Xiao who were traveling to spread their teachings. One night, they got stranded in the wilderness when it was pitch black outside with no light anywhere. They couldn't see anything at all! Luckily, the two monks were very clever. Feng Qiu took his walking stick and bored a hole in the end of it. Then Yuan Xiao took his candle andstuck it inside the hole in the stick. All of a sudden, they had a bright light to guide their way through the darkness! As they continued their journey using the candlelit staff for light, word quickly spread to the nearby villages about these wise monks and their brilliant invention. Soon all the villagers started making their own portable lanterns out of paper, silk, or bamboo with a candle inside. The village kids were so excited to have these new colorful lanterns to play with and carry around at night! This is how the first Lantern Festival began, honoring the wisdom and resourcefulness of the two monks Feng Qiu and Yuan Xiao. Pretty cool story, right?Well, that's the tale my grandma always told about the origins of our fun Lantern Festival traditions. Whether it's the true historical beginning or not, I just love continuing those customs of lighting up the night with beautiful lanterns and celebrating with family. The Lantern Festival is such a dazzling and magical way to finish up the Chinese New Year season each year. If you ever get a chance to experience it in China or in Chinese communities around the world, you've got to go check it out! I'm already counting down the days until next year's Lantern Festival. I can't wait!篇3My Favorite Chinese Festival - The Lantern Festival!Hi friends! I want to tell you all about one of my favorite celebrations in China - the Lantern Festival! It's called Yuan Xiao Jie in Chinese. This fun festival comes at the end of the lunar New Year celebrations, on the 15th day of the first lunar month. That's usually sometime in February or March. The Lantern Festival has been celebrated for over 2,000 years! It started as a celebration of the return of spring and the new year. People would go outside at night to look at the beautiful full moon and decorate their homes with fancy lanterns. Over time, it became a big festival with many fun traditions! One of the best things about the Lantern Festival is all the yummy food! My favorite treat is called tang yuan or yuan xiao. These are sticky rice balls filled with sweet stuff like black sesame, peanuts, or red bean paste. Some have a salty egg yolk inside instead! We eat them in a sweet soup made from fermented rice. Soooo delicious!Another popular food is called yuan xiao, which are little dumplings shaped like ingots or shoes. People used to put riddles inside the dumplings as fortune riddles. If you got a riddle dumpling, you had to solve the riddle before eating it for good luck. Pretty neat, right?Of course, the highlight of the Lantern Festival is seeing all the beautiful lanterns lit up at night! Families decorate their homes with colorful lanterns in the shapes of animals, flowers, or characters from legends. Some lanterns even move or make sounds when lit. My little brother loves the funny pig lanterns that wiggle their noses! Many cities and towns hold huge lantern shows where thousands of lanterns light up the streets and parks. The lanterns come in all sizes - some as big as houses! Artists make lanterns in incredible shapes like giant dragons or famous buildings. The lanterns are so bright and pretty shining in the night. There are also lantern riddle games where you have to solve tricky riddles written on the lanterns to get prizes. I'm not very good at figuring out the hard riddles yet. But I love watching the lantern dances where performers hold bright lanterns and move them in choreographed moves. It looks like the lanterns are dancing through the air!One of my favorite activities is carrying our own little lanterns and parading through the neighborhood with my family. We kids get so excited watching the lanterns bobbing in the night. At the end, we release small hot air lanterns into the skyand make wishes as they float away. It's magical to see the glowing lanterns drifting up towards the moon! The Lantern Festival celebrations last for several days and nights. I always feel sad when it's over because I have to wait another whole year for the next one! But the fun memories and yummy treats make it worth the wait.I hope you can come visit China sometime during the Lantern Festival. her parents on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. Distraught, she said she would kill herself by jumping into a well. In order to help Yuanxiao fulfill her duty as a filial daughter, the scholar Dongfang Shuo came up with a scheme. He told Emperor Han Wudi that the Jade Emperor, the highest god
in Heaven, had ordered the Fire God to burn down the capital city of Chang'an on the sixteenth day of the first lunar month. Anxious to find a way to save his city, the emperor asked Dongfang Shuo what he should do. Dongfang Shuo replied that the Fire God loved red lanterns more than anything. He advised that the streets be hung with red lanterns, and the emperor, empress, concubines, and court officials come out of the palace to see them. In this way, the Fire God would be distracted and disaster averted. The emperor followed Dongfang Shuo's advice, and while everyone was out viewing
the lanterns, Yuanxiao was able to sneak out of the palace
and be reunited with her parents.

Although the above stories are quite fantastical, it is sure that the origins of Lantern Festival are related to ancient humanity's use of fire to celebrate festivals and
avert disaster. Since Lantern Festival involves making offerings to the deities and is celebrated at night, it is natural that fire would play an important role. Over time, Lantern Festival gradually evolved into its present form. When Buddhism was introduced to China during the Eastern Han Dynasty , the emperor decreed that on the night of the full moon of the first lunar month, lanterns should be lit to
honor Buddha, adding yet another level of significance to Lantern Festival. And according to Daoism, Lantern Festival
is associated with the primordial deities of Heaven and Fire, who were born on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month.

Eating yuanxiao (sweet dumplings made with glutinous rice flour) is one of the special traditions of Lantern Festival.。
