内容提要：本文以以色列翻译学者图里对于文学翻译两个翻译阶段的划分为理论依据，选取侦探小说这一典型的小说类型作为研究对象，通过对同一侦探小说在三个不同历史时期的译本进行分析对比，对中国近代侦探小说翻译文学文本阶段的翻译模式和译本特点进行研究，以期对中国近代小说翻译史的研究提供新的视角。关键词：文学文本翻译；翻译模式；侦探小说翻译中图分类号：H059 文献标识码：A 文章编号：1672-0962(2010)05-0054-06
三、近代侦探小说翻译的文本翻译阶段
域外小说翻译在清末民初的译介是作为启蒙运动的一种形式而盛行起来，其数量在某些时期甚至超过了原创小说，足以说明小说翻译在当时的盛况。根据陈平原的统计，自 1899 至 1916 年间，译介的小说共有 796 部，以政治小说，教育小说，科学小说和侦探小说是最流行的小说翻译类型，其中侦探小说的翻译在五四之前数量上要多于其它类型的小说 [5]，并且是“晚清翻译最多，流行最广”[6] 的翻译小说类型。对侦探小说翻译的研究能大致反映小说翻译的发展历程，能够反映出西方文学的文本类型如何在中国文化中被译介、模仿并最终被接受的过程，因为侦探小说这种文学类型为“为吾国所绝乏，不能不让彼独步”。这一时期的译者首先采取了语言翻译模式，随着文学翻译活动的盛行，文本翻译模式逐渐取代了语言翻译模式。 1. 语言翻译模式下产生的译本在梁启超 1898 年《译印政治小说序》的号召下，以林纾为代表的早期小说译者对于小说翻译抱着传统的经世致用的观念，把小说翻译当作一种救国图存的方式，不但在小说选取上缺乏文学标准，在翻译过程中也把西方小说当作政治及科学书籍对待，对其内容和形式进行中国化的改编。这种经过改造的译本，实质上是一种“混杂的译本” ，即混杂了中外两种文化，译本与原文之间有很大程度的偏移。晚清读者对于侦探小说的接受首先是因为其离奇的情节，符合中国读者以情节为中心的传统阅读习惯。通过阅读侦探小说，“可见彼文明人之情伪”, 并且侦探小说中所包含的科学知识，还可以“使当事者学为精审，免卤莽灭裂之害”[8]。由此可见侦探小说最初的译介是与文学没有任何关系，其文学特点并没有被译者和读者所认识，也未能作为文学译本被接受，而只是作为一种科学知识引入中国，以求开启明智。侦探小说对于当时的读者乃至译者都是一种完全陌生的文本类型，译者以中国传统文学观念为参照，对原文进行了改编，使其符合晚清读者的阅读和审美习惯，因此这一
