针对选词填空这个题型,下面谈一下自己的做题方法和体会,希望对大家有所帮助,不会浪费你们太多时间,下面以2013年6月大学英语六级考试真题(二)这套题的选词填空为例:

The continuous presentation of scary stories about global warming in the popular media mak es us unnecessarily frightened. Even worse, it __36__ our kids.

AI Gore famously __37_ how a sea-level rise of 20 feet would almost completely flood Flori da, New York. Holland, and Shanghai, even_though-the United Nations says that such a thing will not even happen(完整), __38__ that sea levels will rise 20 times less than that.

When __39__ with these exaggerations, some of us say that they are for a good cause, and su rely there is no harm done if the result is that we focus even more on tackling climate change.

This _argument_is astonishingly wrong. Such exaggerations do plenty of harm. Worrying _4 0_ about global warming means that we worry less about other things, where we could do so much more good. We focus, _forexample_ , on global warming's impact on malaria (疟疾) - which will put slightly more people at _at_risk_in 100 years - instead of tackling the half a bi llion people __41_ from malaria定语 today with prevention and treatment policies that arc much cheaper and dramatically more effe ctive than carbon reduction would be.

__42__also wears out the public's willingness to tackle global warming. If the planet is __43_ _ people wonder, why do anything? A record 54% of American voters now believe the news media make global warming appear worse than it really is. A majority_of people now believe - incorrectl y - that global warming is not even caused by humans.

But the worst cost of exaggeration, I believe, is the unnecessary alarm that it causes - particul arly among children. An article in The Washington Post cited nine-year-old Alyssa, who cries abou t the possibility of mass animal __44__ from global warming.

The newspaper also reported that parents are searching "productive" outlets for their eight-ye ar-olds' obsessions (忧心忡忡) with dying polar bears. They might be better off educating them and letting them know that, c ontrary to common belief, the global polar bear population has doubled and perhaps even quadrupl ed (成为四倍) over the past half-century, to about 22000.__ 45 __diminishing - and eventually disappearing - summer Arctic ice, polar bears will not become extinct.
