首先要了解过去进行时的结构：由主语+ was / were + 现在分词构成例如： We were having supper when the phone rang . 我们正在吃晚饭时电话响了。
在初中阶段需要掌握了解的有过去进行时的三大经典用法：1. 在过去的具体时间或具体某段时间内发生的动作，比如说： I was watching TV from 7 to 9 last night . 指的就是过去某段时间内正在发生的动作。
再比如说， I was watching TV at 9 last night ，指的就是过去某一具体时间发生的动作。
2. 指为故事或新动作的发生提供背景，比如说： It was raining when they came out of the classroom , 当他们从教室出来的时候下雨了。
3. 指过去两个同时发生的动作，比如说： While I was watching TV , my parents were reading newspaper . 我在看电视时，我爸妈在读报纸。
那在经典影片泰坦尼克中，也出现了过去进行时的用法，当 Jack 英雄救美之后， Rose 未婚夫赶到现场时，就质问了他俩，他当时说道: What do you think you were doing ? 你们干了什么事儿?这时的 Rose 实在是气不过了，她说： It was . Stupid , really . 好莱坞经典电影中的英语时态金燕@ 2009-5-12 17:30 引用通告分类: 未归类【作者：老罗培训许岑】我们在初中或高中学习英语语法的时候，都会花费大量的时间精力学习英语的时态。
但是，我们通常把注意力都放在如何做对选择题或填空题上面，而很少接触日常生活中地道准确的英语时态实际应用。
所以最后我们只能做对题目，却不会在日常应用英语交流的时候准确地道的使用英语时态，尤其是将来进行时态、现在完成进行时态、使用一般进行时表示将来等比较复杂的英语时态。
我在老罗英语培训开设的“看电影学英语”课程中介绍看电影学英语的好处之一，就包括“使学习者真正掌握地道准确的英语时态并自如地应用”。
我们先来看一个在电影中出现的，准确应用英语时态的例子：在电影《西雅图夜未眠（Sleepless In Seattle）》中，Annie的未婚夫Walter初次跟Annie 的家人见面，担心自己不被Annie的家人喜欢或接受，就在进门之前问Annie“Am I what they had in mind？”意思就是“我是他们想的那样的吗？”Annie安慰他“Oh, Walter they’ re going to love you！”而在他们见了面，Walter确实被大家喜爱之后，Annie又对Walter 说“They love you. I told you they would love you and they loved you.”我们注意上面的这句话的动词“love”的时态，首先是一般现在时，跟着是过去将来时，最后是过去时。
我们从上下文意思看出，Annie的这句话是说“他们（现在）是爱你的。
我（之前）告诉过你他们（将）会爱你，而他们（刚才见面的时候）确是爱你的。
”这句话说得很简洁，没有过多的时间副词来协助，而只用动词时态的变换即达到准确地表达。
所以像电影中这么活生生的例句对我们真正掌握英语的时态是有很大的好处的。
我们之前提到将来进行时态、现在完成进行时态、使用一般进行时表示将来是英语时态的难点，也是我们在平时口头表达的时候不太会使用，却又是很需要被使用的英语时态。
我们先来看将来进行时的例子：在电影《四仔旅行团（Road Trip）》中，Barry作为学长给一些刚入学的新生作校园的介绍，他带着他们绕着校园走，来到整个校园的中心地带的时候，他介绍说“你们很快就会熟悉(适应)这里”：“This is the main area of the university. You ’ ll be getting used to this area.”如果我们按照纯粹语法正确的角度来看，即便你说“You will get used to this area”也是可以的，但是我们注意到Barry使用了一次将来进行时态，明显在这个语境中是更地道的。
因为这些新生已经入学了，所以，（不久的）将来和现在都有可能发生Barry说的事实。
另外，将来进行时态也表示马上就在眼前就会发生的事。
很多英美的歌手在舞台上都会说“I am going to be singing a song … （我将要演唱……）”就是一个例子。
再比如像在电影《死亡诗社（Dead Poet Society）》中，老师Keating教学生如何写诗，他在课堂上要跟学生讲讲莎士比亚，他说：“Today we are going to be talking about William Shakespeare .”这句跟之前歌手说的话是一样的语境，都是“我们来谈谈……”，虽然感觉还没有正式开始谈，但是实际上说话（或演唱）已经开始了。
若想更容易理解，则记住只要是“现在让我来做……”，这个时候就一定要用将来进行时态，比如“现在让我来演唱……”，“现在让我来讲讲……”还有个生动的例子，也是出现在电影《四仔旅行团（Road Trip）》中。
几个难兄难弟Kyle，E.L.，Rubin，和Josh在所谓的旅行中开车遇到一只断桥，他们商量加速冲过去，最后多数人赞成，唯一不赞成的就是车主Kyle。
因为开车冲过断桥是容易出事的，车是Kyle的，所以他坚决反对，他说“我们不会越过任何河流”：“This is my car, and we are not gonna be jumping over any rivers.”因为虽然他是反对的，但是这事儿眼瞅就要发生了，另外几个人已经开始发动车了，所以K y le在这里使用了将来进行时态，以表示事情马上就是发生。
需要特别注意，这句话中有一个否定，所以理解起来相对会有一些困难，我们再看一个非常类似的例子。
仍然是在这部电影中，他们真的开车冲过断桥，虽然车没有掉到河里，但是车一落地轮子就全掉了，车子等于是报废了。
这令Josh非常沮丧，于是他说“我可没有工夫走出这片林子”：“I don’t have time to be walking through the woods right now.”虽然这一句并没有将来时态，但是说话人使用了进行时态。
我们一般情况下会说“I don’ t have time to walk through the woods.”为什么在这里要用“to be walking”，是因为他们不得不走出去，所以这件事注定即刻发生。
而事实上Josh在说这话的时候已经开始往林子外面走了。
最后再补充一个将来进行时的例子，来自电影《美国丽人（American Beauty）》。
这个例子中的时态完全是因为电影上下文。
Jane的父亲Lester看上了自己女儿的同学，初次见面就眼巴巴地望着人家而不愿离去，最后不得不分开的时候，他对那个姑娘说：“I will be seeing you around.”通常情况下，我们在分手时只说“see you”。
但是因为这个Lester实在是太想早点见到那个姑娘了，以至于巴不得“现在”就发生，或者马上会发生，于是使用了将来进行时态，非常准确地利用了一个英语的时态就表达了角色的心情。
说到现在完成进行时，我们再看之前《四仔旅行团（Road Trip）》的例子，那些新生觉得Barry带他们参观校园作介绍作得很差，其中一个人就带着嘲讽地问：“How long have you been going to school here?”“你在这上学上了多长时间了？”一般情况下我们知道应该在这种语境下使用现在完成时，但是根据电影的剧情，这个Barry虽然在这所大学读了八年，但是仍然在读，还没有毕业，所以更地道或者更准确地说，我们该使用现在完成进行时。
在电影《美国派（American Pie）》中，Oz要向自己心仪的姑娘Heather告白。
实际上他已经喜欢这个女孩很久了，一直以来都很想告白，今天终于鼓起勇气，他说：“I have been meaning to tell you, Heather.”意思是“一直以来我就打算告诉你……”。
非常类似的例子还有在电影《楚门的世界（The Truman Show ）》的最后，“导演”对楚门说：“I have been watching you your whole life.”意思是“我从你小时候就一直看着你长大。
”无论是上面Oz，还是下面的“导演”，都是一直以来在（准备）做一件事并且现在仍然在做。
所以使用现在完成进行时态是地道的，并且也是唯一正确的。
最后我们来看使用一般进行时表示将来的时态。
通常来讲，对于即刻发生并且要发生的概率极高的事情，我们使用一般进行时来表示将来，比如最常见的“The bus is coming.”车就要来了。
我们来看电影中的生动例子：在电影《死亡诗社（Dead Poet Society）》中，年轻人Neil酷爱戏剧，然而他的父亲却极力反对。
Neil偷偷地参加舞台剧的排练，后来被他父亲发现了，他父亲粗暴地对他说：“Now, tom orrow you go to them and tell them that you are quitting .”后面的“you are quitting”的意思实际是“你将退出”。
但是从这里的情境来看，他父亲逼迫他退出，在父亲的威严之下，孩子很难违抗命令。
因此，在他父亲说话的这一刻起，实际上Neil已经相当于退出了，也就是我们之前说得“即刻发生并且要发生的概率极高”。
所以在这里Neil的父亲使用这个一般现在时来表示将来时态，也是有另外含义的，以显示自己的“权威性”。
再举一个例子，在电影《费城故事（Philadelphia）》中，Andrew Beckett意识到自己将被律师行解雇，就问了一句：“ Am I being fired?”他正在使用一般进行时表示将来，意思是“我是不是将被解雇？”需要注意的是，他通过几个律师行合伙人对他说的话，已经猜出来这帮家伙已经做了决定了，因为这件事“即刻发生并且要发生的概率极高”。
故而，使用一般进行时来表示将来时态也是非常准确的。
最后再追加一个生动例子。
在电影《西雅图夜未眠（Sleepless In Seattle）》中，Annie 的家人知道Annie和Walter订婚了之后，Betsy问Annie：“When are you getting married, Annie?”同样是表达将来的意思，在这里千万不用使用“When will you get married?”如果遇到挑剔的人，这种问法会招人不快。
因为一般宣布订婚的消息之后，都是离结婚不远了，属于“即刻发生并且要发生的概率极高”的事情，因此一定要使用一般现在时来问。
若使用“will”，则暗含未来发生的时间不确定，发生概率也不确定的感觉。
当事人以为你不祝福他（她）的婚姻呢。
