1Maheegun is my beloved pet dog. He has been an important part of my life since he came into my family. He is not just a pet but truly like a brother to me.Maheegun is a medium - sized dog with a beautiful coat of fur. His fur is a mixture of brown and white, which makes him look really charming. His eyes are big and bright, always full of curiosity and affection for the world around him.In terms of his personality, Maheegun is extremely brave. Once, when I was walking in the park with him, a bigger dog suddenly rushed towards me in an aggressive way. Without hesitation, Maheegun stood in front of me, barking loudly to scare the other dog away. He is also very loyal. Whenever I come home from school, he is always the first one to greet me at the door, his tail wagging excitedly as if he is telling me how much he has missed me. Maheegun is also very intelligent. He can understand many simple commands that I give him, like "sit", "lie down" and "come here". He has brought so much joy and a sense of security to my life that I cannot imagine my life without him.2Maheegun is a name with a special origin. It might be given by hisparents, perhaps it has a meaning related to the family's heritage or a significant event. Maheegun plays a multi - faceted role in life. He is not only a great companion but also a wonderful helper. As a companion, he is always there. Whether it's a long, dull day or a special occasion, he is by one's side. He has an uncanny ability to sense when someone is feeling down and will offer his silent yet powerful support. In the family or among friends, his influence is profound. His positive attitude is like a ray of sunshine that can dispel the darkest clouds. For example, when there are disputes or difficult situations within the family, his calm and optimistic approach helps to ease the tension. He is always willing to lend a helping hand to friends who are in need, whether it's with practical tasks or just being a good listener. His presence is a source of comfort and strength, making him an invaluable part of the family and the social circle.3Maheegun is not just an ordinary individual but a very special one who can be considered as a brother figure. He is a person full of life and vitality.Maheegun has a wide range of interests. One of his major interests is reading. He is often seen with a book in his hand, whether it's a classic novel or a scientific journal. His love for reading has greatly influenced his way of life. For example, he has a very calm and composed demeanor, which is probably a result of all the knowledge and wisdom he has gained from books. He can handle difficult situations with ease and always has a rational approach. In addition to reading, he also loves nature. He enjoys going on hikes in the mountains and exploring the beauty of the forests. This love for nature makes him a very environmentally conscious person. He is always trying to reduce waste and protect the environment in his daily life. He often encourages others to do the same. He lives a simple yet fulfilling life. His interests are not just hobbies but an integral part of who he is, shaping his behavior and his relationships with others.4Maheegun is an extraordinary individual. He is in his twenties and currently a college student majoring in environmental science. He grew up in a small town surrounded by beautiful mountains and clear rivers. His family was not wealthy but was filled with love. His parents, who were both kind - hearted, taught him the values of honesty and compassion from a very young age. Growing up in such a warm family environment made Maheegun a very friendly and approachable person. He once had a rather difficult experience. When he was in high school, he participated in a science competition. At first, he faced a lot of setbacks and difficulties in his project, and many people around him didn't believe he could succeed. However, Maheegun didn't give up. He spent countlesshours in the library doing research and in the laboratory conducting experiments. Through his unwavering efforts, he finally overcame all the difficulties and won the competition. This special experience has made him even more tenacious and determined in the face of challenges in his life.5Maheegun comes from a rather remarkable family. His family has a long - standing tradition deeply rooted in the love for nature and the preservation of cultural heritage. They have been living in a small but vibrant community for generations, where everyone knows everyone else and they support one another through thick and thin.Maheegun himself is a person full of extraordinary abilities. He is an extremely talented artist. His works of art are not only visually appealing but also carry deep - seated emotions and cultural significance. He has participated in numerous art exhibitions both locally and in some well - known cities. His paintings often depict the beautiful landscapes of his hometown, which are a blend of the natural beauty that his family has always cherished and the unique cultural elements that have been passed down through the generations. Moreover, Maheegun is also a great storyteller. He can vividly narrate the stories of his family's past, including the challenges they faced and how they overcame them, which always leaves his listeners deeply moved and inspired.。

Unit Two Maheegun My BrotherBy Eric AclandPart I. Background InformationI .WOLF WISDOMMany of the prevailing stories depict wolves in a negative way--such as in Aesop's Fables. In fiction, the wolf is sometimes represented as an evil, conniving carnivore which preys on small children and livestock. While wolves do sometimes prey on livestock, they are responsible for a very small percentage of the livestock deaths in North America. Attacks by healthy wild wolves on humans is almost unheard of, and there has never been a fatal attack on a human by a healthy wild wolf in North America. Those attacks that do take place might involve an unhealthy wolf, or a human who is somehow inciting the wolf to action or impinging upon the wolf's territory.Other cultures have better views of the wolf. In Roman mythology, the god Mars considered the wolf a sacred animal, and the founders of Rome were raised by a wolf. Native Americans also hold the wolf in high regard and believe that wolves carry characteristics that humans should also find important, such as strong family structure and teaching the young. Eastern Europeans often viewed wolves as protectors of the harvest. There seems to be very little in the way of a 'middle ground' about wolves. They will probably always be both revered and hated. However, As time passes and education efforts continue, these perceptions seem to be changing to a more realistic view of the wolf as a vital part of a balanced ecosystem.II. Wolf Phrasescry wolf 喊叫“狼来了”,发假警报a lone wolf 独居单干的人wolf in sheep's clothing 披着羊皮的狼have/hold a wolf by the ears 骑虎难下,进退两难have a wolf in the stomach 饿到极点keep the wolf from the door 免于饥饿,勉强度日see a wolf 说不出话来,目瞪口呆ugly enough to tree a wolf 丑陋已极,不中用到极点wake a sleeping wolf 自找麻烦set the wolf to keep the sheep 引狼入室III Question:How do you view the relationship between wolves and humans? Do you have a similar story to tell?IV.Easter1.The Date of EasterPrior to A.D. 325, Easter was variously celebrated on different days of the week, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. In that year, emperor Constantine issued the Easter Rule which states that Easter shall be celebrated on the first Sunday that occurs after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox. The "full moon" in the rule is the ecclesiastical full moon. It does not always occur on the same date as the astronomical full moon. The ecclesiastical "vernal equinox" is always on March 21. Therefore, Easter must be celebrated on a Sunday between the dates of March 22 and April 25.Easter 2004Ash Wednesday is 25 FebruaryPalm Sunday is 4 AprilGood Friday is 9 April(Western) Easter Sunday is 11 April(Orthodox) Easter Sunday is 11 April2. The Easter BunnyThe bountiful Easter bunnies have become the most favorite Easter symbol. It's universal and secular in its appeal. And, most important of all, it relates to Easter historically. The ancient Egyptians related hares to the moon. Egyptian name for hare was 'un', meaning 'open'. And they were beloved to be watching the full moon opened eyes throughout the night. Also the hare and eggs have to the Anglo-Saxon spring goddess Eostre. Possibly, this is because both of them were regarded to be emblems of fertility. The German immigrants, who brought in most of the Teutonic Easter traditions here, made rabbits so popular among the non-German kids. The German children used to have rabbit's nests filled with decorated eggs. They also used to build nests. They looked so attractive that even the non-German kids demanded such gifts on the Easter.3. The Easter EggAs with the Easter Bunny and the holiday itself, the Easter Egg predates the Christian holiday of Easter. The exchange of eggs in the springtime is a custom that was centuries old when Easter was first celebrated by Christians. From the earliest times, the egg was a symbol of rebirth in most cultures.Eggs were often wrapped in gold leaf or, if you were a peasant, colored brightly by boiling them with the leaves or petals of certain flowers.Today, children hunt colored eggs and place them in Easter baskets along with the modern version of real Easter eggs -- those made of plastic or chocolate candy. The Armenians would decorate hollow eggs with pictures of Christ, the Virgin Mary, and other religious designs.4. Easter Egg GamesOn Easter morning the children of the house join in a search to locate the eggs that the Easter Bunny had hidden while they where asleep. The searching might continue though out the house with the older children helping the youngest. Sometimes prizes of candy are awaiting the child finding the most eggs Easter egg hunts can be also part of a community's celebration of holiday. The eggs are hidden in public places and the children of the community are invited to find the eggsThe rules of an Easter Egg Roll are to see who can roll an egg the greatest distance or can make the roll without breaking it, usually down a grassy hillside or slopeMaybe the most famous egg rolling takes place on the White House Lawn. Hundreds of children come with baskets filled with brightly decorated eggs and roll them down the famous lawn, hoping the President of the United States is watching the fun.5. The Lovely Lily of EasterWho doesn't love to have the nice white lily as part of the Easter gift?In fact, the lovely white trumpet lily has been enjoying a great favor in being included as a principal item for church decoration for quite some time. A perfect gift of nature to beautify our Easter. Isn't it?But its acceptance in America, as such, dates back around the 1800s. It came in with the rise in the Easter observances by the Protestants in America. And, strange, it took some more time to find a widespread acceptance. In the 1880s, while in Bermuda, Ms Thomas P Sargent became familiar with a beautiful lily that blooms naturally in springtime. She just fell for this lovely white 'Bermuda' lily. She brought its bulbs in back home in Philadelphia. There, a nursery man, called William Harris, fostered its popularity among other florists. Following this it did not take long for the flower to win the hearts of million to be the main flower of the Easter floral arrangements.6. Easter IslandEaster Island is over 2,000 miles from the nearest population center, (Tahiti and Chile), making it one of the most isolated places on Earth. A triangle of volcanicrock in the South Pacific - it is best known for the giant stone monoliths, known as Moai, that dot the coastline. The early settlers called the island "Te Pito O Te Henua" (Navel of The World). Admiral Roggeveen, who came upon the island on Easter Day in 1722, named it Easter Island.Part II. Text Appreciation1. One day back in January of 1940 , a student came to my office and told me that he had come to college to be a pharmacist. He said he didn’t see why he should read Shakespeare. I tried, to the best of my ability, to explain what a university is supposed to do. I told him that the job of a university was to produce/ turn out specialists is who were at the same time civilized citizens. In other words, the business of a university is not only to help its students acquire knowledge and professional skills, but also to put them in touch with the great minds of the past. I pointed out that if a person just wanted to be a mechanized savage he had no business being in college.

Adam and • God forms Eve a man "of dust from the ground,"and
breathes into the man's nostrils, "and man became a living being." God sets the man in the Garden of Eden and permits him to eat of all the fruit within it, except that of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, "for in the day that you eat of it you shall die."God decides to make him a helper for the man, and creates "every beast of the field and every bird of the air, ... but for the man there was not found a helper fit for him." God creates a woman from one of the man's ribs, and the man awakes and names his companion Woman, "because she was taken out of Man.“ Adam’s role is to take care of Eve, provide for her protect her and also to guide her. God created living creatures in the same way.

”。
