Never had a more ill-suited person handled a weapon. But my editor had sent me on a mission:to find my inner Katniss Everdeen at one of Being's indoor archery clubs. The brilliant archer Everdeen is the lead character in The Hunger Games movies, the final of which was just released in cinemas. Her arrows can hit almost anything:sword-swinging enemies, fierce animals, even aircraft some-how,Me? I can’t throw a paper ball into a trashcan with any precision. And I was warned that archery would require a great deal of upper body strength, though I hadn’t seen the inside of a gym in years.News outlets like The New York Times and NPR have reported an increase of interest in archery, thanks to movies like The Hunger Games,Brave and The Avengers. Archery clubs have showed up in many major cities. In Jian Club,an archery-themed bar,we paid 120 yuan for an hour's worth of target practice and prepared our bows and arrows. We were told to stand sideways, with one shoulder facing the bull’s eye.Your weaker arm would hold the bow, while the other would pull the bowstring back until the arrow was right next to your face. Then it was meters away.Well, sort of.Instead of sending the arrows whistling through the a ir,my first few simply dropped on to the ground. The failure was a good reminder that archery is a demanding,Olympic-level sport. It worked muscles in my back and arms that I just didn't have yet. An hour came and went, and I found myself leaving with a couple pie reed(刺穿的) bull's eyes and sore shoulders. This is the natural cycle of human existence. The world record holder for the longest human life is Jeanne Louise Calment of France, who lived to 122 years and 164days. But what is the secret to along life?Human beings are complex, and we live for a very long time, making studies of the process of ageing a serious challenge. Most of the research to date has therefore been done in animals. Two of the favorite species for these kinds of studies are Caenorhabditis elegans,a very tiny worm, and Mus musculus, the laboratory mouse. The worms generally live for just two or three weeks, while the mice have an up-per lifespan of around three years, and both have a lot of genes that are quite similar to our own. Using these models, researchers have i denied several possible candidates, including stem cell, calorie restriction(能量限制), and even some drugs, could hold off the ageing process. After years of careful research, there is now a wealth of knowledge just waiting to be tested in people. We spoke to Brian Kennedy, CEO of the Buck Institute for Research on Ageing. “We're a nonprofit medical research institute that's focused on unders tanding ageing. We realized when the doors opened in1999 that ageing was the biggest risk factor behind all of the diseases that we care about, ”he explains.“I think the exciting thing that we have lea med over the past decade is that it's really possible to slow ageing in a mouse,or even in primates(灵长类动物) .The challenge now is to take that knowledge and apply it to humans.5.The studies of ageing were performed in two special animals because______A.their genes are similar to mankind'sB.their genes are easy to be testedC.they have similar lifespans to mankindD.they have the same genes as mankind6.Which of the following can probably be used to prevent ageing proces ?A.Animal genes.B.Mus musculus:C.Stem n cells.D.Caenorhabditis elegans.7.What can we learn from the last paragraph?A.The study of ageing was started in 1999.B.Is possible to slow ageing in some animals.C.The study of ageing cant be tested in humans.D.The study shows that slowing ageing in humans is a reality.8.Whats Brian Kennedy's attitude towards slow ageing?A.CriticalB.NegativeC.IndifferentD.PositiveⅡ.完形填空阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

第1部分 题型重组练题型重组练(一)(建议用时:30分钟) Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2019·湖南雅礼中学高三模拟)Don’t get mad the next time you catch your teenager texting when he promised to be studying. He simply may not be able to resist. A UI(University of Iowa) study found teenagers are far more sensitive than adults to the immediate effect or reward of their behaviors. The findings may help explain why the initial rush of texting may be more attractive for adolescents than the longterm payoff of studying.“For the teenager, the rewards are attractive,” says Professor Jatin Vaidya, an author of the study. “They draw adolescents. Sometimes, the rewards are a kind of motivation for them. Even when a behavior is no longer in a teenager’s best interest to continue, he will still go on. That’s because the effect of the reward is still there and lasts much longer in adolescents than in adults.”For parents, that means limiting distraction so teenagers can make better choices. Take the homework and social media dilemma for example: At 9 p.m., shut off everything except a computer that has no access to Facebook or Twitter, the researchers advise. “I’m not saying they shouldn’t be allowed to have access to technology,”Vaidya says. “But some help in netting their concentration is necessary for them so they can develop those impulse(冲动)control skills.”In their study, Vaidya and coauthor Shaun Vecera note researchers generally believe teenagers are impulsive, make bad decisions, and engage in risky behavior because the frontal lobes(额叶) of their brains are not fully developed. But the UI researchers wonder whether something more fundamental is going on with adolescents to cause behaviors independent of higherlevel reasoning.“We wanted to try to understand how the brain’s reward system changes from childhood to adulthood,”says Vaidya, who adds the reward character in the human brain is easier than decisionmaking.“We’ve been trying to understand the reward process in adolescence and whether there is more to adolescence behavior than an underdeveloped frontal lobe,”he adds. For their study, the researchers persuaded 40 adolescents, aged 13 and 16, and 40 adults, aged 20 and 35 to participate. In the future, researchers hope to look into the psychological and neurological aspects of their results.1.What does the passage mainly tell us?A.Always, rewards are attractive to teenagers.B.Resistance can be controlled well by adolescents.C.Getting rewards is the greatest motivation for adolescents to study.D.The initial rush of texting is less attractive for adolescents than the longterm payoff of studying.2.Which statement agrees with Jatin Vaidya’s idea?A.Children should have access to the Internet.B.Children need help in refocusing their attention.C.Parents should help children in making decisions.D.The influence of the reward is weak in adolescents.3.What result does teenagers’ brain underdevelopment lead to?A.Making good decisions.B.Escaping risky behavior.C.Joining in dangerous actions.D.Doing things after some thought.4.How did the researchers carry out their study?A.By examining adults’ brain.B.By examining teenagers’ brain.C.By building the brain’s reward system.D.By making a comparison of brain examinations.BStan Lee, cofounder of the Marvel Universe(漫威宇宙) andcocreator of many of its most popular superheroes, died at the age of 95.Lee was born Stanley Martin Lieber in New York in 1922. As a son ofworkingclass Jewish immigrants from Romania, times were hard and helived with his family in a shabby singlebedroom apartment. After graduating from high school at 16, Lieber landed a job as an assistant at Timely Comics. By the early 1940s, he was a temporary editor for the company. It was at this time that he began using his pen name—Stan Lee. In 1947, two years after returning from serving for the U.S. Army, Lee married his wife, Joan. The two began their 70year marriage and had two children. In the late 1950s, DC Comics breathed new life into its classic superhero and experienced a significant success with its updated version of the Flash, and later with superteam the Justice League of America. To compete against DC Comics, Lee was given the task of creating their own group of superheroes. In 1961, Timely Comics changed its name into Marvel Comics after Atlas Comics, and that November saw the debut(首次亮相) of the Fantastic Four. Lee’s later famous and lasting creations of comicbook superheroes included SpiderMan, the Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and the XMen.Over the course of his career, Lee was an icon of Marvel Comics. As a writer and editor and, at various points, both the publisher and vice president of Marvel Comics, Lee not only introduced interesting characters to the industry, but changed the way that comic books came together. He also created a cooperative workflow between writers and artists, which became known as the “Marvel Method”. 模块四高考题型组合练组合练1Ⅰ.阅读理解(共9小题;每小题2分,满分18分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

A(2020·河北省衡水中学高三下学期第一次模拟考试)Scientists have developed a new type of smart bandage(绷带) that can signal the type of bacterial(细菌的) infection it’s protecting, just like a traffic light,as well as release the right type of drugs on demand. The traffic light system works just like this:Green means no bacteria or a low concentration of bacteria, yellow means drug-sensitive(DS) bacteria responsive to standard antibiotics(抗生素) and causes antibiotic release, and red means drug-resistant(DR) bacteria that need extra help to be wiped out.In testing the bandage on mice, the research team was able to successfully treat both DS and DR infections using the new method. However, the common methods of sensing resistance are limited by time, the requirement for professional personnel, and expensive instruments. Moreover, the abuse of antibiotics causes the accelerated process of bacterial resistance. It’s easy to see how a simple bandage and light could overcome some of these limitations.Treatment doesn’t have to wait for a doctor to make a diagnosis, and the bandage can get the right sort of drugs applied at the earliest opportunity. What’s more, the person wearing the bandage gets real-time feedback on what’s happ ening with the infection,if there’s an infection at all.The researchers say it offers numerous benefits over existing treatments that make use of light, including photodynamic therapy or PDT.We’ve been seeing quite a few upgrades to the traditional bandage in recent years, thanks to advances in science — like the nanofiber mesh that attracts bacteria and draws some of it out, speeding up the healing process. Then there’s the novel bandage for treating burns, which stops bacteria from multiplying and lowers the risk of infection. The more work that a bandage can do while it’s protecting a wound, the better.Efforts to improve bandages continue and now we’ve got a bandage that not only releases antibiotics, but also tells the patient exactly what’s going on too.1.What is the smart bandage mainly designed to do?A.Avoid the use of antibiotics.B.Clear out harmful bacteria.C.Detect bacterial infections.D.Increase treatment options.2.What is the advantage of the smart bandage?A.It saves much time and cost.B.It removes the risk of infection.C.It prevents the bacterial resistance.D.It improves doctor-patient relationship.3.What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?A.Traditional bandages are out of use now.B.More smart bandages will be developed.C.Progress in science calls for more research.D.People are urged to study medical science.4.What does the text focus on?A.A successful test on mice.B.A colour-changing bandage.C.Sensing drug-resistant bacteria.D.Preventing abuse of antibiotics.【答案】 1.C 2.A 3.B 4.B【解析】这是一篇说明文。

Here she picks her top reads.MatildaRoald DahlI once wrote a paper on the influence of fairy tales on Roald Dahl's writing and it gave me a new appreciation for his strange and delightful words. Matilda's battles with her cruel me parents and the bossy headmisres,Miss Trunchbull, are equally fumy and frightening, but they're also aspirational. After DarkHaruki MurakamiIt’s about two sisters-Eri,a model who either won’t or can’t stop sleeping, and Mari, a young student . The technology uses machine learning tools to search for faces in an attempt to identify people. In a recent study, scientists announced they had developed machine learning tools to track the faces of individual wild chimpanzees(黑猩猩).Dan Schofield said that the system was developed to improve the quality of information collected about chimpanzees in the wild over a long period of time.“For species like chimpanzees, which have complex social lives and live for many years, getting snapshots of their behavior from short。

term field research can only tell us so much," Schofield said。

The researchers wanted to get a more complete understanding of the lives of the chimpanzees by studying them over several generations. But doing this would have required searching through hundreds of hours of video recordings of chimpanzees in the wild。

Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2019·湖南雅礼中学高三模拟)Don’t get mad the next time you catch your teenager texting when he promised to be studying. Even when a behavior is no longer in a tee nager’s best interest to continue, he will still go on. “I’m not saying they shouldn’t be allowed to have access to technology,” Vaidya says. But the UI researchers wonder whether something more fundamental is going on with adolescents to cause behaviors independent of higherlevel reasoning.“We wanted to try to understand how the brain’s reward system chang es from childhood to adulthood,” says Vaidya, who adds the reward character in the human brain is easier than decision making. “We’ve been trying to understand the reward process in adolescence and whether there is more to adolescence behavior than an underdeveloped frontal lobe,” he adds. For their study, the researchers persuaded 40 adolescents, aged 13 and 16, and 40 adults, aged 20 and 35 to participate. In the future, researchers hope to look into the psychological and neurological aspects of their results.1.What does the passage mainly tell us?A.Always, rewards are attractive to teenagers.B.Resistance can be controlled well by adolescents.C.Getting rewards is the greatest motivation for adolescents to study.D.The initial rush of texting is less attractive for adolescents than the longterm payoffof studying.2.Which statement agrees with Jatin Vaidya’s idea?A.Children should have access to the Internet.B.Children need help in refocusing their attention.C.Parents should help children in making decisions.D.The influence of the reward is weak in adolescents.3.What result does teenagers’ brain underdevelopment lead to?A.Making good decisions.B.Escaping risky behavior.C.Joining in dangerous actions.D.Doing things after some thought.4.How did the researchers carry out their study?A.By examining adults’ brain.B.By examining teenagers’ brain.C.By building th e brain’s reward system.D.By making a comparison of brain examinations.BStan Lee, cofounder of the Marvel Universe(漫威宇宙) and cocreator of many of its most popular superheroes, died at the age of 95.Lee was born Stanley Martin Lieber in New York in 1922. As a son of workingclass Jewish immigrants from Romania, times were hard and he lived with his family in a shabby singlebedroom apartment. In 1961, Timely Comics changed its name into Marvel Comics after Atlas Comics, and that November saw the debut(首次亮相) of the Fantastic Four. Lee’s later famous and lasting creations of comic book superheroes included SpiderMan, the Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and the XMen.Over the course of his career, Lee was an icon of Marvel Comics. 特色重组练一Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2019·宜宾模考)Aruba is one of the most wellknown Caribbean destinations for tourists around the world. You're probably wondering what to include as well as what to wear while you're in Aruba.ClothesThe main reason why you're heading there is to relax on the country's fresh beaches and joy in warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. During most of the day, you'll likely be wearing your swimsuit. When you're finished at the beach or pool area, it is advisable to bring along a shirt or cover as well as shorts to wear.It is not recommended to wear beach clothes when you go out for dinner—regardless of the time of day. Shorts and Tshirts are enough in many restaurants, although more formal clothes are advised for the fanciest eating establishments. What else to bring? The Caribbean sun is very strong and if you're planning on spending lots of time in the sun, there are several precautions you must take. Include suncream, sunglasses, a wide hat, a couple of bathing suits, as well as a beach bag and a cooler in your luggage. What NOT to bring? While drinking water is questionable or not safe in many Caribbean nations, Aruba is an exception. Aruba is known for having the cleanest water in the world. There is no need to bring water, simply bring along an empty bottle.Several items are prohibited in Aruba for carrying. These include firearms, ecigarettes, as well as sharp objects and tools.篇章导读:本文是一篇应用文,介绍了到位于加勒比海的阿鲁巴岛旅游的注意事项。

高考题型重组练(一)Ⅰ.阅读理解A[2019·黑龙江六校一模]In more ways than one, Toronto is given far less credit than it really deserves. But Toronto has its own reasons to pull you in. The city is ever changing and some new attractions pop up every year.CN TowerThe CN Tower is a symbol of Toronto. It's a concrete observation and communications tower that goes over 500 meters high. The adventure of walking on an outdoor platform that sticks out from the very top part of the tower for those healthy adults is attractive. It has pulled in crowds from all over the world —the EdgeWalk.Toronto ZooGoing out with kids? Then treat them to a fun and educational time at the Toronto Zoo. It is home to over 5,000 animals and constantly gets new arrivals. Amongst the newest comers are two Chinese pandas. For adventurous families, a visit there is not all about seeing animals. It's a unique experience where you and your kids get to fly over wolves and bears.Ripley's Aquarium (水族馆) of CanadaLocated right by the base of the CN Tower and packed with unforgettable fun sights, Ripley's Aquarium of Canada will thrill adults and young ones alike. It hosts thousands of animals that you can get to see close, including rare sea animals, such as sharks, jellyfish, and rays.Kensington MarketThe diversity of the food there will delight any taste. This is where you will find popular cuisines from different parts of the world. You can enjoy Venezuelan, Chinese, Italian dishes, and more. The experienced cooks will give you something you have never eaten before, by combining dishes from different traditions.【语篇解读】本文是一篇应用文,主要介绍了加拿大多伦多的几处值得游览的地方。

【熟词生义】credit常用义:n.信用;学分本句义:n.赞扬,称赞例句:Recreation centers sometimes don't get the credit they deserve for keepingour kids active in the summer months.休闲中心让我们的孩子在夏季保持活力四射,有时候这一点得不到应得的赞扬。

1.How may average tourists feel about Toronto?A.It deserves a visit. B.It develops very slowly.C.It has few new attractions. D.It is a fairly plain place.答案与解析:D 考查推理判断。

依据第一段中的“In more ways than one, Toronto is given far le ss credit than it really deserves”可知,在许多方面,多伦多所得到的认可远远低于它自身真实的价值,也就是说人们没有真正意识到多伦多的美,可能只认为多伦多是一个极普通的地方。

因此选项D正确。

2.Which place is recommended for adventureloving parents and children?A.CN Tower.B.Toronto Zoo.C.Ripley's Aquarium of Canada.D.Kensington Market.答案与解析:B 考查细节理解。

依据Toronto Zoo部分的“For adventurous families, a visit there is not all about seeing animals. It's a unique experience where you and your kids get to fly over wolves and bears”可知,Toronto Zoo适合有孩子且喜欢冒险的家庭一起去游玩,因此选项B正确。

3.What is the feature of Kensington Market?A.It's a place to sell food.B.Cooks there teach people to do dishes.C.Tourists can try new cuisines there.D.People there are from diverse backgrounds.答案与解析:C 考查细节理解。

依据Kensington Market部分的“The experienced cooks will give you something you have never eaten before, by combining dishes from different traditions”可知,在Kensington Market,人们可以品尝到从来没有吃过的食物,故选项C正确。

4.Where can we probably read the text?A.In a guidebook.B.In a city map.C.In a geographical journal.D.In public service advertising.答案与解析:A 考查文章出处。

文章主要内容是关于多伦多的几个旅游景点的,由此可推知,该篇文章最有可能出现在旅游指南上,故选A项。

B[2019·安徽六校联考]The American dream is the faith held by many people in the United States of America that through hard work, courage, creativity and determination, they can achieve a better life for themselves. More specifically, they agree on how to get ahead in America: get a college education, find a reliable job, and buy their own house. But do Americans still believe in that path, and if they do, is it attainable? The most recent National Journal poll asked participants about the American dream, what it took to achieve their goal, and whether or not they felt the control over their ability to be successful. Obviously, the results show that today, the idea of the American dream and what it takes to achieve it looks quite different from it did in the late 20th century. Generally speaking, people feel that their actions and hard work —not outside force —deciding their lives. But the participants have definitely mixed feelings about what actions make for a better life in the current economy. In the last seven years, Americans have grown more pessimistic (悲观的) about the power of education to lead to success. Even though they see going to college as a fairly achievable goal, a majority — 52 percent —think that young people do not need a 4year c ollege education in order to be successful.Miguel Maeda, 42, who has a master's degree and works in public health, was the first in his family to go to college, which has allowed him to achieve a sense of financial stability (稳定) his parents and grandparents never did. While some, like Maeda, emphasized the value of degree rather than the education itself, others still see college as a way to gain new viewpoints and life experiences. To Fendley, a sense of drive and purpose, as well as an effective highsc hool education, and basic life skills, like balancing a checkbook (支票簿), are the necessary elements for a successful life in America.
