With the needs of the community, in order to meet the people in the tourism or business activities in the food,drink ,sleep and other issues, Thousands of years ago appeared the Hotels.
First of all,There are some definitions of hotel in the literature. From Paul and Gerald(1957) quote the Conrad Hilton as saying,” The basic definition of the hotel is a business organization that provides security, comfort, and space for the use of short-term rest or sleep.” Garrett(2002) quote the book of Hotel management as stating:“The hotel now, in addition to the main provide accommodation for tourists and foreign also provides life services and facilities (sleep before the service), food, games, entertainment, shopping, business center, banquet and conference facilities.”
Secondly,Let's talk about "HOTEL" etymology . "HOTEL" is a word comes from the old French”HOSTEL”, but the French-HOSTEL was comes from the Latin " HOSPITALE ". In the medieval feudal society , the travel activity is not frequent , then religious influence to the society of great,more profound .Many people had to go to a temple or church pilgrimages,worship. So,there is hostel appeared. Therefore , development of the hotel has a close relationship with religion .
Thirdly, with the improvement of living standards.According to Walker(2013)write the book,he divided the hotel’s classifications of 11 categories.There are City Center Hotels,Resort Hotels,Airport Hotels,Freeway Hotels and Motels,Casino Hotels,Convention Hotels,Economy Hotels,Boutique Hotels,Extended-stay Hotels,Condotels and Mixed-use Hotels,Bed and Breakfast Inns.
Let us choose one hotel to introduce. Boutique hotel offers different accommodation experience of large chain hotels . It has a unique architectural style,decoration,and size, only 25-125 rooms , but there are a high level of personal service.(Walker2013). An example of the Boutique Hotels is Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Island. The best feature of the hotel is in building on the top floor of prominent edges of glass of the end of the swimming pool and the design for it in 2013 brought Hong Kong Best Hotel Architectural Award.
To sum up, the hotel has a long history.It’s to provide meals and accommodation facilities , and has a family of equipment and other ancillary services business . I think the hotel is dedicated to serving a gentleman and lady's service agency.As John Willard Marriott,Marriott International Group founder has said: “Hotel is a business of selling services, service is the lifeblood of the hotel”.
