The buyer doesn’t know which figure they’ve got until they open the box. The start of blind boxes can be dated back to lucky bags sold in Japan from the late 1860s. In recent years it becomes big business in China.During the Double 11 shopping festival, POP MART, a leading blind box company inChina, sold 55,000 LABUBU dolls on Tmall in just 9 seconds according to a Tmall report. One reason for their popularity is the lovely look of the figures inside the boxes. They’re like small cartoon characters. They can be put anywhere in your home to make your home more beautiful and lovely. But another, perhaps more important reason people like them is the fun of being surprised. “The most interesting thing about blind boxes is the gap between what you expect and what you get.” said Wen Xi, a blind box collector from Beijing. The excitement of getting the exact thing you want is like winning the lottery. The boxes are certainly enjoyable to some. However, others worry that children might spend too much money on these toys. “The blind box economy makes use of gambling psychology (赌博心理),” said Liu Chunsheng, “young people want to look for the excitement brought by higher risks, which leads to impulse buying (即兴购买).” Last year, over 200,0 Chinese customers spent more than 20, 000 yuan collecting blind boxes. There are so many things that I can do to keep myself entertained and make good use of my free time. One of my favorite ways to kill time is by reading. I love to immerse myself in a good book and get lost in the story. Whether it's a novel, a magazine, or even an online article, I always find reading to be a relaxing and enjoyable way to spend my free time. It not only helps me to expand my knowledge but also allows me to escape from reality for a while.Another way I like to pass the time is by listening to music. I have a wide range of music that I enjoy, so I can always find something to suit my mood. Whether I'm feeling energetic and want to listen to some upbeat tunes, or I'min a more mellow mood and want to listen to some soothing melodies, music is always there to keep me company. In addition to reading and listening to music, I also like to use my spare time to exercise.
Killing Time Indoors1. Killing Time IndoorsNowadays a growing number of people, especially the 20sor 30s, tend to stay indoors for most of their spare time, especially on holidays. Some spend the majority of the time online chatting, blogging, shopping, dating or playing computer games. Some sit with their eyes glued to thetelevision screen, day and night.People’s opinions vary when it comes to this way ofkilling time. A great number of people maintain that staying indoors is cheap, comfortable, and most importantly, very safe. Others, however, frown upon staying indoors for too long. They are worried that lack of physical exercise andface-to-face communication with others will do harm to people’s body and mind.Personally, I don’t think staying indoors for most ofthe day should be advocated. Instead, people in all ages, their physical conditions permitting, should be encouraged to spend more time outdoors. The brilliant sunshine, thepleasant green space, the interactions with other people, etc.are all good for people’s health, both phys ically and psychologically.

Time will tell.
Even though it was so dark I could still tell it was you.

Neil's turned up late so Helen smashes up a clock. Why? Neil and Helen discuss a useful expression for when you have spare time you need to waste.
Neil: Um, Helen what are you doing?
Helen: Oh I'm just stamping on this clock.
Neil: Yes, I can see that you are really… destroying that clock. My question is… why?
Helen: Well, don't you remember you told me that you were going to be a little late for the recording session?
Neil: Yes, I had to delay things by an hour.
Helen: And I asked you what I should do while I was waiting.
Neil: Yes that's right.
Helen: And you told me that I should just kill time. So that's what I'm doing… killing time.
Neil: Well I did tell you to kill time, but I didn't mean destroy a clock. In English, when you say you are 'killing time', it means you are doing something that isn't really important just to occupy yourself before the start of your next plan or arrangement.
Helen: Yeah, that's right. Killing time has nothing to do with violence towards clocks. It's an expression which means to do something which isn't really important just to keep you occupied until the start of your next plan or arrangement. Here are some examples.
