Also, another character drew my attention. That is Nancy. As a child of the streets ,Nancy has been a thief and drank to excess .At last she sacrificed her own life in order to protect Oliver ,because she revealed Monks’ plots. So Nancy’s moral complexity is unique among the major characters . After I read the “Oliver Twist”, I am regretful to Oliver’s fate. Besides, I am sinking into a question, whether a bad environment can irrevocably (不可 避免地) poison someone’s character and soul. I like this book ,for one thing I learn that Dickens used his situation to criticize public policy toward the poor, for another the characters teach us what is good and what is evil.
Mr. Brownlow --A well-off , erudite gentleman who serves as the first benefactor of Oliver.
Monks ----A sickly ,vicious young man

Plot overview
Oliver Twist was born in a workhouse in 1830s England. His mother died just after Oliver’s birth . Apparently, Oliver will be a orphan and force to live in a workhouse . After the other boys bully Oliver into asking for more food at the end of meal , Mr. Bumble , the parish （教区） beadle（小吏）, offer 5 pounds to anyone who take the boy away from here. Eventually , Oliver apprenticed to a local undertaker (殡仪承办人) . But eventually Oliver run away at dawn and travel toward London. Unfortunately , in London , he is cheated to be a thief and suffers a lot .

This novel touches my heart deeply. I hold human sympathy on Oliver, who had traveled on foot, without a friend to help him or a roof to shelter his head .When Mr. Brownlow and Rose helped him escape from Monks’ maltreatment （虐待） and get the possession, he was grateful to them and seek ways to return their kindness. In the novel, what Oliver have done gives us deep impression. When Charley Bates and Sikes stole Mr. Brownlow's things ,Oliver fell upon his knees at the Jew’s feet and beat his hands together in perfect desperation（绝望）.There is no denying that Oliver is a kind ,pious boy.
Once, Oliver was sent to assist Bill in burglary and shot by a servant of the house ,but he was lucky to be saved by Mrs.Maylie and her niece Rose. In this case, Monks appears ,he is Oliver’s half-brother, who is set on recapturing (抓获)Oliver in the hopes of ensuring that Oliver is deprived of his share of the family inheritance(遗产).In the end, Mr. Brownlow finds out the truth and forces Monks to sign over Oliver’s share. What’s more, he adopts Oliver. Then Maylies and them retire to a blissful (幸福的)existence in the countryside.
