• Explain how global warming comes about.
• Introduce the problem of global warming. • Give a warning and raise a question for the readers to think over.

Dr. Janice Foster
Carbon dioxide has caused the global temperature to __g_o__u_p____. An increase of five degrees would be a _c_a_ta_s_t_r_o_p_h_e_ and could be _v_e_r_y__se_r_i_o_u_s__.

Dr. Janice Fosterthinks the effects of global warming could be very serious. George Hambleythinks global warming will be mild with few bad environmental consequences.

glass traps the heat from the sun and keeps it from escaping. This makes the greenhouse heat up and so the plants can grow throughout the cold period.
Para.2 …that it is human activity that has caused this global warming rather than a random but natural phenomenon.

Greenhouse effect is a natural p henomenon. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere can warm the earth by trapping heat energy. But the problem begins when we add huge quantities of extra carbon dioxide to the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels . Therefore, more heat energy is t rapped in the atmosphere. It is the increased amount of carbon dioxide that is r esulting in global warming.
Due to the greenhouse effect, the earth is becoming warmer and warmer---
