5.0Procedure

5.1Common Tasks and Test Plan Selection

5.1.1Results from each module/test-step must be recorded using the attached"Packaging Qualification Test Report Template"(see Section

6.0).

5.1.2Modules within a test plan must be performed in the order as listed within that test plan.Product under test must also not be subjected to

undue handling or transportation-all tests must be conducted within a single test facility and within the required amount of time to ensure

temperature stability has been maintained(see Section5.1.3).

5.1.3In preperation for performing a test plan,packaged products must be conditioned to laboratory standard conditions for6hours or until

equilibrium is achieved.

Temperature:73.4+/-2degrees F(23+/-1degrees C)

Relative Humidity:50+/-2%

Reference ASTM D-4169Section6.1.1:

"Conduct the test at standard conditions and compensate for the effects of any climatic condition.Condition the

shipping units to a standard atmosphere of73.4+/-2°F(23+/-1°C)and50+/-2%relative humidity."

5.1.3.1Tests should be conducted in the conditioned atmosphere whenever possible.If not possible,testing must be conducted immediately

after removal from the conditioning environment and completed within10-hours.It tests are not completed within10-hours,

conditioning to laboratory standard conditions must be reapplied before testing can continue.

5.1.3.2OPTIONAL-"Climate"Conditioning

Use"climate"conditioning only when special circumstances require it-such as if new shipping materials have been introduced and no

prior test history exists;unexpected failures have been observed with packaging and additional testing is needed;or the test has been

specifically requested by Product Quality or Packaging Engineering.

Insure static conditioning is complete prior to starting climate conditioning.

If testing products made of SBS materials with glue flaps,check to see if glue flaps remained intact during conditioning before ●

proceeding to compression test.Maximum glue flap departure allowable is5%.i.e.if20units(40glue flaps)tested,

maximum of2flaps departure,would be acceptable.Replace"failed flap"units with units that pass conditioning and proceed

to compression test.

Units under test are to be conditioned as follows:

Unless otherwise noted,all remaining tests are then to be performed at Lab Standard conditions(see section5.1.3and5.1.3.1)●

and as soon after removal from conditioning as is practical.Record conditions and durations obtained for conditioning and all

remaining tests.

5.1.4Prior to any test being performed,and regardless of the test plan selected,at DVT(Design Verification Testing)phase all packages

must undergo a"Measurement Audit"as described in section5.7

5.1.5Following the completion of the selected test plan,cosmetic and functional inspection of the package contents must be performed.
