逐句精讲新概念英语第二册:第55课并非金矿Lesson 55:Not a gold mine新概念英语2课文内容:Dreams of finding lost treasure almost came true recently. A new machine called 'The Revealer' has been invented and it has been used to detect gold which has been buried in the ground. The machine was used in a cave near the seashore where — it is said — pirates used to hide gold. The pirates would often bury gold in the cave and then fail to collect it. Armed with the new machine, a search party went into the cave hoping to find buried treasure. The leader of the party was examining the soil near the entrance to the cave when the machine showed that there was gold under the ground. Very excited, the party dug a hole two feel deep. They finally found a small gold coin which was almost worthless. The party then searched the whole cave thoroughly but did not find anything except an empty tin trunk. In spite of this, many people are confident that 'The Revealer' may reveal something of value fairly soon.本文语法:复习现在分词和过去分词作定语的用法 (参考Lesson 29的语法分析。

新概念第二册第55课第55课A trip to AustraliaWe have just returned from a trip to Australia. We spent a fascinating six weeks there. Australia! Our idea of Australia had been vague: a far-off country which we had always wanted to visit;a strange country with its kangaroos, vast uninhabited deserts and strange, noisy birds. It turned out to be all that we had expected and more. We booked our passage by sea. The liner took us to Sydney. We flew back.Australia is twice the size of India, and its population is only eleven million. Just about everyone lives in the towns along the south-east coast, because elsewhere the country is teeming with poisonous snakes and insects. Melbourne was our first port of call.1We took a train north to Sydney, where we spent a week, and then we flew to Brisbane, where we spent another week.We decided to make Australia the beginning of a trip round the world; but we soon discovered that there was quite enough to see in this one country alone. We had imagined that Australia was a hot country inhabited by ' bronzed Aussies'; so we were rather surprised to find that many Australians, like Britons, were as pale as we were. We soon got used to the hot, burnt-out grass in the parks and gardens. We spent many hours on Sydney harbour. We swam a lot in the open sea. From our hotel windows, we saw dozens of surfers riding through the breakers. We joined them and soon discovered how difficult it was to catch even the smallest wave. We were told that Australians learnt to surf when they learnt to walk; and after our experiences in the sea, we believed it.Another thing which amazed us about Australia was the fact that we had breakfasted in Sydney one morning in a hotel and, the2same evening, we were able to eat dinner outside a hotel in Brisbane. We travelled by air. The journey lasted only an hour! Sydney was still hot when we arrived in Brisbane.1. How long did the writer's trip last?2. What do you think 'bronzed Aussies' means?3. Why were the writer and his wife surprised to see surfers?4. How long did the journey by air take?5. Was the weather 'hot' in Sydney or in Brisbane when the writer and his wife were there?答案:1. The writer's trip lasted six weeks.2. 'Bronzed Aussies' refers to Australians who have tanned or sunburnt skin.33. The writer and his wife were surprised to see surfers because they didn't expect Australians to be interested in or skilled at surfing.4. The journey by air lasted only an hour.5. The weather was 'hot' in Sydney when the writer and his wife arrived in Brisbane.4。

新概念255课课文原文

新概念255课课文原文I arrived in London at last. The railway station was big, black and dark. I did not know the way to my hotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spoke English very carefully, but very clearly as well. The porter, however, could not understand me. I repeated my question several times and at last he understood. he answered me, but he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. 'I am a foreigner,' I said. Then he spoke slowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher never spoke English like that! The porter and I looked at each other and smiled. Then he said something and I understood it. 'You'll soon learn English!' he said. I wonder. In England, each person speaks a different language. The English understand each other, but I don't understand them! Do they speak English?中文参考我终于到了伦敦。
