See specifications for your model.Make sure flow and pressure have been eliminated from process pipe prior to installing or removing product.Always use appropriate thread sealant or flange gaskets when connecting product to process piping. To protect against leakage, seal all pipe threads with anappropriate sealing compound. Make sure the sealing compound does not intrude into the flow path.NOTE: If connecting to new male pipe threads, burrs and curls can adversely affect accuracy. Correct the problem prior to turbine installation.NOTE: Do not over tighten the flange bolts. This may cause the gasket to be compressed into the flow stream and may decrease the accuracy of the meter.Installation near high electromagnetic fields and high current fields is not recommended and may result in inaccurate readings.5GETTING STARTEDASSEMBLY / INSTALLATIONOPERATION /CALIBRATIONMAINTENANCE / REPAIRSAFETY /SPECIFICATIONSO P E R A T I O N /C A L I B R A T I O NA S S E MB L Y / I N S T A L L A T I O NG E T T I N G S T A R T E D6Figure 1M A I N T E N A N C E / R E P A I Rflanged models; top of display for non-flanged modelsGETTING STARTED OPERATION /CALIBRATION SAFETY / SPECIFICATIONSMAINTENANCE / REPAIR INSTALLATIONIMPORTANT: TM Series meters are available with either a computer forlocal electronic display, or three versions of output modules (see PARTSsection of this manual) to provide a digital signal to customer interfacingequipment. TM Series meters with computer display ship pre-configuredfrom the factory in either gallons or liters. The volume unit can be changedto several other options. Refer to the Q9 owner’s manual for details onchanging or customizing the volume unit.ConnectionsInstall your meter in-line either horizontally or vertically. Installation to metalconnections is not recommended. Install as follows:1. Plan to install turbine with a minimum straight pipe length as follows(see Figure 2):• Upstream from the turbine, allow a minimum straight pipe length of 10times the internal diameter of the turbine.• Downstream from the turbine, allow a minimum straight pipe length of5 times the internal diameter of the turbine.2. For Spigot (Pipe) End use only primer and solvents approved for PVCgluing.Cut to Length The meter housing can be shortened by the customer. Each meter has a “dotted” line feature molded on the top surface of thehousing tube. The housing can be cut up to this line without harmingany internals. Most glue on fittings will fit without interfering with thecomputer display area. However, the customer should check all partsbefore attempting cut.For NPT and BSP Fittings wrap all connections with 3 to 4 wraps of threadtape (optional to use pipe thread sealant). Make sure the tape does notintrude into the flow path.3. Attach meter with arrow pointed in the direction of fluid flow.4. For NPT Fittings - Hand tighten the meter at the housing ends. Do notuse a wrench or similar tool to tighten. This can damage the housing.78S A F E T Y / S P E C I F I C A T I O N SG E T T I N G S T A R T E DO P E R A T I O N /C A L I B R A T I O NM A I N T E N A N C E / R E P A I R INSTALLATION (CONTINUED )Connections (continued)5. The amount of heat the gas absorbs is determined by the gas molecular structure. Specific heat, the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of a given gas onedegree centigrade quantitatively describes this “thermal absorbency”.Mass flow measurement consists of a bypass sensing tube with a heater wound around the center of the sensing tube and precision resistance type temperature sensors located equidistant upstream and downstream of the heater. A laminar flow element package, located in the main flow stream, acts as an appropriate restriction creating a pressure drop forcing a fixed percentage of the total flow, approximately 10 sccm, through the bypass sensing tube for temperature differential detection. As gas flows through the sensing tube, heat is displaced to the downstream temperature sensor creating a temperature differential between the upstream anddownstream temperature sensors. The upstream and downstream temperature sensors form two legs of a bridge network at the sensor assembly inputs to the PCB. The resulting temperature differential is amplified on the PCB assembly to a 0-5 VDC output signal directly proportional to the gas mass flow rate. To ensure an accurate flow measurement, flow disturbances must be eliminated or greatly reduced. Accordingly, both the sensor tube and the laminar flow element package are designed for laminar flow. Actual gas or gas factors are used in calibration to account for the specific heat of the measured gas.4For more information call +1 603 595 1500 or email ppfinfo @Visit Model 112Thermal Mass Flow Meters Mechanical IntegrationDimensionsBasic Dimensions Models 112UnitsIn (mm)5T h e r m a l M a s s For more information call +1 603 595 1500 or email ppfinfo @Visit Model 112Thermal Mass Flow MetersElectrical Integration and RecommendationNote: Cable color codes are for reference only and aresubject to change without notice6For more information call +1 603 595 1500 or email ppfinfo @Visit Model 112Thermal Mass Flow MetersElectrical Integration and RecommendationNote: Cable color codes are for reference only and aresubject to change without noticeMFCPLCTo DriverPower SupplyNotes:1.Setpoint:4-20 mA2.For input/output designations (i.e., iondividual pin functions)fo pin numbers not shown, refer to electrical integration drawing on previous page.7T h e r m a l M a s s F l For more information call +1 603 595 1500 or email ppfinfo @Visit Typical Flow DiagramModel 112Thermal Mass Flow Meters8For more information call +1 603 595 1500 or email ppfinfo @Visit Installation Guide• Clean dry area with adequate space • Indoor use only• Follow process connection manufacturer guidelines and leak check all connections • Purge all gas lines with nitrogen before installation • Remove all loose particulate or debris from systemModel 112Thermal Mass Flow Meters Key Things to Remember:• Standard Flow Sizing Specifications 1. Clean the paddle of any foreign objects. Replace the paddle and axle if worn.!Although the meter is capable of operating at the high end of the flow range, continuous use at veryhigh flow rates (upper 25% of the calibrated flow range), is not recommended. The paddle and axle life is related to the rate of flow and the fluid being measured. Corrosive fluids moving at high flow rates will cause increased wear requiring frequent inspection and maintenance.
