It was discovered on Feb. 26 at an observatory in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. While the thought of an asteroid hitting the earth may sound concerning, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) says people shouldn't be worried. The asteroid has an estimated diameter of 160 feet, which is about the same size as an Olympic swimming pool or the width of a football field."We've been tracking a new asteroid named 2023 DW that has a very small chance of impacting the earth. Often when new objects are discovered, it takes several weeks' data to reduce the uncertainties and adequately predict their orbits years into the future," NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office (PDCO) said. The asteroid is ranked on the Torino Scale as level 1 threat. The scale is a tool to categorize potential earth impacts, with zero being no threat and 10 being something that can cause a global disaster. One on the Torino Scale means 2023 DW is in the normal, or green zone."Current calculations show the chance of collision(碰撞) is extremely unlikely with no need for public concern," NASA says of the green zone. "New telescopic observations will very likely lead to re-assignment to Level 0."Although 2023 DW doesn't pose a great risk to the earth, NASA has been continuing to work to defend our planet from any asteroid that could cause disaster. In September, 2022, NASA crashed its Double Asteroid Redirection Test spacecraft, or DART, into an asteroid to see if it could change the trajectory of the space rock. NASA later confirmed the mission was a success, and is continuing to research how effective the method is, should a massive asteroid be headed our way.8、What does NASA's PDCO say about 2023 DW?A. It is too close to the earth.B. It must be destroyed in space.C. Its orbit is still uncertain now.D. Its orbit should be changed.9、How is 2023 DW ranked on the Torino Scale?A. As Level zero threat.B. Path.11、Which can be a suitable title for the text?A. An Asteroid Was Discovered at an Observatory in ChileB. An Asteroid Is Coming Our Way, Unlikely to Hit UsC. A Space Rock Has Just Passed the EarthD. A Spacecraft Has Been Crashed RecentlyMaria Jones had just finished teaching a yoga class when she happened to notice an elderly man walking around by himself in the city centre of Aberdeen, Scotland. As they shared a packet of chocolate bars over a coffee, Maria learned that Tom Smith, who was 83,had left his home that day for the first time in three years. Driven by extreme loneliness, he decided to take a ride on the bus. He'd taken two different buses that day.According to Age UK, 1.1 million older people rely on using public transport for company. While health and mobility issues can lead to social isolation, the COVID-19 lockdown, coupled with the upsetting effect of the cost of living crisis, has contributed to a loneliness epidemic(流行病) among the UK's older population.Senior expert Sally Baker sees the necessity of establishing a programme to reconnect the older people with their local communities. And helping them access local transport links is the first step. She says that she understands why travelling on public transport can help to reduce loneliness. It offers a setting for conversations to spark up. "Sitting side by side is often less inhibiting(约束的) than direct eye contact," she said. However, Age UK is aware that many older people feel worried about getting out and about, with 38 percent saying they don't feel confident using public transport. That's why the charity has initiated the Travelling Companions' pilot programme, designed to help older people who might be feeling lonely to get out and about confidently. Each older person is matched with a volunteer who will help them achieve their travel goals. One man at 80, who has been helped by Age UK's new project, says, "The programme is making my world a lot bigger and brighter."12、Why is Tom Smith's experience mentioned in the text?A. To give an example of someone getting lost.B.To introduce the major topic to be discussed.C. To illustrate the boring daily life of 80-year-olds.D. To stress the value of chatting with older people.13、What can we learn from paragraph 4?A. Older people need help to rebuild social connections.B. Travelling alone on buses can be unsafe for older people.C. Many older people take buses to ease anxiety.D. It's necessary to offer older people free bus rides.14、What is Age UK according to the text?A. A research institute.B. A senior citizen care centre.C.A bus company.D.A charity organization.15、What is the text mainly about?A. The widespread old age problem in the UK.B. Loneliness among the UK's older population.C. 高考英语口语考试真题及答案云南版全文共3篇示例,供读者参考篇1Hey everyone, it's me again with another inside scoop on the Gaokao. This time, I'm dishing all the details about the English speaking section for the Yunnan province version. You know how important English is for getting into a good university, so you'll want to read this carefully!First off, the structure of the speaking exam. It consisted of three parts: first there was a reading comprehension where you had to read a short passage and answer two questions about it. Next was the individual response where you had to choose one out of three topics and talk about it for 1-2 minutes. Finally, there was the roleplaying section where you got a scenario and had to act it out with the examiner. For the reading part, the passage was actually pretty manageable in length and difficulty level. Mine was about environmental protection and recycling. The two questions asked for key details from the passage, so as long as you understood the main points, you could answer them accurately.Pro tip: make sure to clearly state which part of the passage you are referring to when giving your answer. The individual response topics seemed pretty standard - things like describing a memorable experience, discussing an admirable person, talking about your future goals, etc. The key here is having a basic structure prepared that you can then adapt to whichever prompt you get. Something like a short intro, 2-3 main points with examples, and a conclusion. Also, try to sprinkle in some fancy vocab and grammar structures without going overboard. But let me tell you, the role play part was by far the trickiest! You don't get any time to prepare, the scenario is just sprung on you. For mine, I had to act as a student asking a clerk at the student center about joining an extracurricular club. Keeping up my character's persona while still producing coherent and contextually appropriate English responses on the fly was really challenging. My advice would be to practice, practice, practice doing improv conversations with others beforehand. In terms of evaluation criteria, I've been told fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary usage, and how well you respond to the actual prompts all factored in. Making silly little mistakes was okay, but having lots of awkward pauses or notproperly addressing what you were asked could really hurt your score.Of course, staying calm and confident is also huge. It's normal to feel nervous, but try your best not to let it show through things like mumbling or fidgeting. Speak slowly and clearly, and don't be afraid of a little bit of awkward silence while you gather your thoughts. One reassuring thing was that the evaluators seemed like pretty chill, supportive people overall. They didn't have intimidating poker faces and tried to put me at ease. As long as you make an earnest effort, I don't think they'll be too harsh in their judgement. So there you have it, all the insider deets on the Gaokao English speaking test for Yunnan! It's definitely a challenge, but if you prepare properly, you can definitely put your best foot forward. Let me know if you need any other tips or have questions. Wishing all my fellow test takers the best of luck - you've got this!篇2The Dreaded English Oral Exam: Yunnan's College Entrance Exam Strikes FearAs if the gauntlet of the college entrance exam wasn't tough enough, we students in Yunnan province have to contend with the dreaded English oral exam as well. This seemingly innocuous addition to the test has caused many a student to break out in a cold sweat. After all, isn't it hard enough to master written English? Now we have to demonstrate oral fluency too? The pressure is immense.I'll never forget my own experience with the English oral exam two years ago. I had been diligently preparing by watching English movies, listening to podcasts, and even talking to myself in the mirror to practice. But when I stepped into that small room with the examiners staring me down, my mind went blank. The first question they asked was deceptively simple: "Tell us about your favorite book and why you enjoyed it." I stammered through some jumbled thoughts about the sci-fi novel I had read, rambling aimlessly until they had to move me along to the next question mercifully. From there, it didn't get any easier. They fired off questions about my future goals, current events, even asking my opinion on government policies. With each query, I felt more tongue-tied and flustered. By the end, I could have filled a swimming pool with the cold sweat dripping down my back.Needless to say, I didn't exactly ace the oral portion. Luckily, my written English exam scores were strong enough to buoy my overall grade. But I shudder to think about my poor classmates who struggled with both the written and spoken components. The oral exam seems almost designed to causthem maximum anxiety. As this year's English oral exams get underway, I can't help but sympathize with the students sweating it out. To help them out, I've compiled some of the actual questions given this year along with sample answers that earned top marks:Question: What are your thoughts on climate change? What steps can individuals take to reduce their carbon footprint?Sample Answer: Climate change is one of the most pressing issues facing our world today. The effects of rising global temperatures, melting ice caps, and increasing extreme weather events will be absolutely devastating if not addressed. On an individual level, we can all do our part by reducing energy consumption, taking public transportation, eating less meat, and being diligent about recycling. Collective action through sustainable practices is crucial to curbing our carbon emissions and protecting the environment for future generations.Question: Tell me about a major historical figure you admire and why you look up to them.Sample Answer: One historical figure I greatly admire is Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. What I find so inspiring about Malala is her unwavering courage and commitment to her cause, even after being shot in the head by the Taliban for daring to want an education. Rather than being cowed by this horrific act, Malala has doubled down on her advocacy, drawing global attention to the educational inequalities and human rights abuses girls face in parts of the world. Her resilience, eloquence, and steadfast dedication to creating a better world for girls and women everywhere is something I aspire to emulate.Question: What is your opinion on the growing role of artificial intelligence in daily life? What are the potential benefits and drawbacks?Sample Answer: Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming integrated into our daily lives through technologies like virtual assistants, facial recognition, and self-driving vehicles. While AI undoubtedly offers many potential benefits in terms of efficiency, automation, and insight through data analysis, I also have concerns about the implications for privacy, security, and humanrights. We must be prudent that the algorithms powering AI are not harboring unconscious biases that perpetuate discrimination. There are also thorny ethical questions around ceding certain decisions to machines rather than human discretion. Ultimately, I believe AI should be a tool that enhances and complements human capabilities while following a robust ethical framework - not a replacement for human judgment altogether. As torturous as the English oral exam was for me, mastering spoken fluency is a critical skill for success in our increasingly globalized world. My struggle was a humbling lesson in overcoming fears, thinking on my feet, and rolling with the punches. To all my fellow students facing the ordeal this year, the best advice I can give is: be prepared for anything, stay calm and confident, and don't stress too much over any single question. The oral exam judges overall command of the language, not perfection. You've got this!篇3Sure, here's an article about "Authentic Yunnan High School English Oral Test Questions and Answers" written from a student's perspective, with a length of around 2000 words in English. The Nerve-Wracking English Oral Exam: Yunnan's High School AdventureAs students in Yunnan, the English oral exam was the stuff of nightmares. The mere mention of it sent shivers down our spines and prompted frantic last-minute cramming sessions. Yet, despite our best efforts, the unpredictable nature of the test left us feeling like we were venturing into uncharted territory every single time. One year, the topic was "Environmental Protection" – a subject we thought we had a decent grasp on. Little did we know that the examiner would throw us a curveball by asking about the intricate details of carbon footprint calculations. Needless to say, our carefully rehearsed speeches about recycling and energy conservation went out the window faster than a plastic bottle tossed into a landfill.Another year, the topic was "Technology and Its Impact on Society." We diligently prepared our talking points, covering everything from the rise of social media to the ethical implications of artificial intelligence. However, the examiner decided to focus exclusively on the nuances of blockchain technology, leaving us scrambling to string together coherentsentences about decentralized ledgers and cryptographic hashing. Then there was the year when the topic was "Cultural Traditions in China." We meticulously studied the history and significance of various festivals, prepared to wax poetic about the beauty of Chinese calligraphy and the intricacies of traditional cuisine. But the examiner had other plans. They inquired about the obscure rituals of minority ethnic groups we had barely scratched the surface of, leaving us floundering like fish out of water.Despite the challenges, we persevered, always hoping that the next year's topic would be the one we had thoroughly mastered. We practiced our pronunciation, expanded our vocabularies, and rehearsed our responses until our tongues felt like they would fall off. Yet, the English oral exam continued to be a formidable foe, testing not only our language skills but also our ability to think on our feet and adapt to the unexpected. One particular year, the topic was "Travel and Adventure." We eagerly prepared our tales of daring escapades andawe-inspiring destinations, only to be met with a barrage of questions about the logistics of travel planning and the environmental impact of tourism. Suddenly, our grand stories ofscaling mountains and exploring exotic locales seemed irrelevant, and we found ourselves grasping for information about carbon offsets and sustainable travel practices.Through it all, we learned valuable lessons about resilience, quick thinking, and the importance of having a diverse knowledge base. We discovered that the English oral exam wasn't just about regurgitating memorized facts but about demonstrating our ability to communicate effectively, even in the face of curveballs. As we look back on those nerve-wracking experiences, we can't help but chuckle at the absurdity of some of the questions we encountered. Yet, we also feel a sense of pride for having survived the gauntlet that was the Yunnan High School English Oral Exam. And who knows? Maybe one day, we'll be the ones crafting the questions, ensuring that the next generation of students faces their own unique set of challenges and learns the invaluable art of thinking on their feet.。

AAccording to the International Ecotourism Society, eco-travel is “responsible travel to natural areas that protects the environment, maintains the well-beings and involves education”. Eco-travel is on the rise, as more and more people become conscious about their carbon footprint.Expert from Boundless Journeys, Matt Holmes, who works-on travel experiences towards conserving areas said, “As scientists and non-scientists learn more about how we human beings are impacting the planet, I think. more people want to do what they can while still exploring the world. Our guests are definitely interested in that aspect of our journeys. Travelers can farm their own food in Italy, managing their use of water and using solar or wind power. They can also visit n family-run camp that cares for retired logging elephants in Myanmar, know a park entry fee goes to a conservation organization in Costa Rica, employ and train members of the local community or partner with a protection group. There are lots of options for seeking out greener holiday.”Most people believe that eco-travel is expensive and it is true. Matt explained “Anti-poaching patrols (巡逻) need to be paid, solar energy equipment costs a lot to install, building with environmentally friendly, materials is more expensive and so on. The extra cost is necessary, as you re paying to minimize your footprint and protect the places you visit, which is exactly what eco-travel is about. The financial success and sustainability (可持续性) of an eco- focused operation doesn’t come from thin air.” The industry istrying to make eco-travel affordable and make it accessible to the common people.1. What is the positive influence of eco-friendly travel?A. It enables travelers to protect the environment while travelingB. It keeps human beings healthy and happy in a friendly atmosphere.C. It teaches us to be responsible for the development of economy.D. It offers some valuable education about the knowledge of gardening.2. According to Matt Holmes, travelers will be interested in ________.A. eating delicious food in ItalyB. visiting elephants in the zooC. working together with a protection groupD. raising park entry fee in Costa Rica3. What will probably be talked about in the next paragraph of the passage?A. Why eco-travel is expensive.B. How we can make eco-travel less expensive.C. What material are used in eco-travel.D. Where we can go for eco-travel.BScience is finaly beginning to embrace animals who were, for a long time, considered second-class citizens. As Annie Potts of Canterbury University has noted, chickens distinguish among one hundred chicken faces and recognize familiar individuals even after months of separation. When given problems to solve, they reason: hens trained to pick colored buttons sometimes choose to give up an immediate food reward for a slightly later (and better) one. Healthy hens may aid friends, and mourn when those friend die.Pigs respond meaningful to human symbols. When a research team led by Candace Croney at Penn State University carried wooden blocks marked with X and O symbols around pigs, only the O carriers offered food to the animals. The pigs soon ignored the X carriers in favor of the O's. Then the team switched from real-life objects to T-shirts printed with X or O symbols. Still, the pigs walked only toward the O-shirted people: they had transferred their knowledge to a two-dimensional format, a not inconsiderable feat of reasoning.I’ve been guilty of prejudiced expectations, myself. At the start of my career almost four decades ago, I was firmly convinced that monkeys and apes out-think and out-feel other animals. They're other primates(灵长目动物), after all, animals from our own mammalian(哺乳动物的) class. Fairly soon, I cameto see that along with our closest living relatives, whales too are masters of cultural learning, and elephants express profound joy and mourning with their social companions. Long-term studies in the wild on these mammals helped to fuel a viewpoint shift in our society: the public no longer so easily accepts monkeys made to undergo painful procedure kin laboratories, elephants forced to perform in circuses, and dolphins kept in small tanks at theme parks.Over time, though, as I began to broaden out even further and explore the inner lives of fish, chickens, pigs, goats, and cows, I started to wonder: Will the new science of "food animals" bring an ethical (伦理的) revolution in terms of who we eat? In other words, will our ethics start to catch up with the development of our science?Animal activists are already there, of course, committed to not eating these animals. But what about the rest of us? Can paying attention to the thinking and feeling of these animals lead us to make changes in who we eat?4. According to Annie Potts, hens have the ability of_____________.A. interactionB. analysisC. creationD. abstraction5. The research into pigs shows that pigs___________.A. learn letters quicklyB. have a good eyesightC. can build up a good relationshipD. can apply knowledge to new situations6. Paragraph 4 is mainly about________.A. the similarities between mammals and humansB. the necessity of long-term studies on mammalsC. a change in people's attitudes towards animalsD. a discovery of how animals express themselves7. What might be the best title for the passage?A. The Inner Lives of Food AnimalsB. The Lifestyles of Food AnimalsC. Science Reports on Food AnimalsD. A Revolution in Food AnimalsCWhy does time seem to fly by faster as we get old? You've got your aging brain to blame. This is likely due largely to the physical changes of our nerves and neurons(神经元). New research suggests ‘rapid fire’ abilities of the young brain allow us to process more information during youth, causing the days to seemlonger earlier in life. However, as we get old, researchers say the older brain takes more time to process information. The new finding put forward by a Duke University researcher was published in a paper in the journal European Review this week According to Adrian Bejan, the J. A Jones Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Duke, the physical changes of our nerves and neurons play, a major role in our perception(知觉) of time as we get old. Over the years these structures become more complex and eventually begin to degrade."Little babies, for example, move their eyes much more often than adults because they’re processing images at a faster rate, "Beian says, For older people, this means fewer images are being processed in the same amount of time, causing experiences to seem as though they’re happening more quickly.8. What causes time to fly faster as we get old?A. Changes of our nerves and neurons.B. Information in our brain .C. The electrical signals.D. Rapid fire abilities.9. What is unavoidable in the process of getting old?A. Longer days.B. Aging brains.C. More images.D. Less experience.10. Why do the days seem longer earlier in life?A. Young people are more energetic in their life.B. The younger brain takes less time to process informationC. Old people have fewer things to do than young people.D.
