Stengel returned to Time in 2000 and took on the role of managing editor of Time. He left his role as national editor of Time in February 2004 to become the president and CEO of the National Constitution Center, a museum and education center in Philadelphia on 1 March 2004. In 2006, Stengel once again returned to Time, this time as managing editor of the magazine. His first major initiative was to change the magazine's newsstand date to Friday, starting in early 2007. In 2008, Stengel approved the changing of Time's emblematic red border for only the second time since its adoption. Stengel was listed as number 41 on Newsweek's 2010 "Power 50" list in November 2010.

Richard Stengel is an American editor, journalist and author. He is the Time magazine's 16th managing editor. Early life and education Stengel was born and brought up in New York.[5] He attended Princeton University and played on the Princeton Tigers basketball team as part of the 1975 National Invitation Tournament. Career Stengel joined Time in 1981and contributed to the magazine through the early and mid-1980s, including articles on South Africa, which he also covered for Rolling ቤተ መጻሕፍቲ ባይዱtone magazine. He became a senior writer and essayist for Time, covering both the 1988 and 1996 presidential campaigns. Stengel left Time in 1999, to become a senior advisor and chief speechwriter for Bill Bradley who ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination for the 2000 presidential election.
We all know personal space is very important to everyone in our daily life. Most people value their personal space and when their personal space is encroached ,they will feel discomfort, anger, nervous or anxiety . Permitting a person to enter personal space and entering somebody else's personal space are indicators of perception of the relationship between the people.

personal distance:1.5--4 feet
Social distance:4--12 feet
Public distance : > 12 feet
In the United States, the accepted distance for conversation is about 18 inches.
• Personal distance: (1/½-4 feet) most conversations
• Social distance: (4-12 feet) less personal situations, in business, workplace
• Public distance: (>12 feet) lectures, churches, public gatherings
The perception of personal space is very strong in Japan. Crossing between two people or intruding into another's space to move through a crowded room is seen as ruder than in other cultures.
The closest distance between two people in a conversation takes place in Middle Eastern cultures. Men usually talk to each other at very short distances, and they even push and shove each other.
The distance between two people in a conversation is also very close in Latin America.
On the other end of the distance spectrum, Asians tend to keep much more distance between each other than Westerners do.
