第Ⅰ卷
第一部分阅读理解
第一节(共10小题;每题2分,满分20分)
A
A crow (乌鸦) lived in the woods and was satisfied with his life. But his life changed when he saw a swan (天鹅). “He is so white,” he thought, “but I am so black. He must be the happiest bird in the world.”
He expressed his thoughts to the swan. “Actually,” the swan replied, “I thought that I was the happiest bird until I saw a parrot (鹦鹉), who has two colors.”
The crow then went to the parrot. The parrot said, “I lived a very happy life until I saw a peacock (孔雀), who has many colors. I now think the peacock is the happiest bird.”
The crow then visited a peacock in the zoo. “Dear peacock,” the crow said, “you are so beautiful. Every day lots of people come to see you. You must be the happiest bird on the planet.”
The peacock replied, “I always thought that I was the most beautiful and happiest bird on the planet. But because of my beauty, I am kept here.
I examined the zoo very carefully and found that the crow is the only bird not kept in a cage. I hope that I could become a crow, so I could fly around freely.”

My only daughter, Sindu, looked frightened. Tears filled her eyes. In front of her was a bowl filled with curd rice (米糊).
I asked, “Darling, why don’t you take it? It’s good for your health.”
Sindu wiped her tears and said, “OK, I will eat. But Dad, if I eat this entire curd rice, will you give me whatever I want?”
“Promise,” I nodded.
Slowly and painfully, she finished. “I want to have my head shaved off,”she said.
Neither my wife nor I could believe our ears. Immediately we said, “Impossible!”
“Dad, you saw how difficult it was for me to eat that curd rice. Was it not you who told me the story of King Harishchandra?” Sindu said in tears. “Now, you are breaking your promise.”
It was time for me to make a decision.
“Our promise must be kept,” I said.
“You are out of your mind!” shouted my wife.
“If we break our promises, she will never learn to keep her own,” I said.
On Monday morning, I dropped Sindu at her school. Just then, a boy ran
to her. What struck me was the hairless head of that boy.
“Maybe that’s the new campus fashion,” I thought.
Then a lady came to me and said, “That boy is my son, Harish. He is suffering from leukemia (白血病). He lost all his hair because of the side effects of the treatment . He refused to come back to school, fearing that his classmates would make fun of him. Sindu visited him last week and promised him that she would take care of the issue. 14__________ A healthy breakfast can jumpstart your metabolism (新陈代谢), and eating small, healthy meals throughout the day (rather than the standard three large meals) keeps your energy up and your metabolism going.
Avoid eating at night. 15__________ And then don’t eat for 12-14 hours until breakfast the next morning. Studies suggest that eating only when you’re most active and giving your digestive (消化的) system a long break each day may help to keep fit.
