拯救中国虎:全莉女士从2000年起相继在英国、美国和香港创立的慈善基金会,致力保护和拯救今天仍在中国国土上生存的老虎和其他濒危的猫科动物。

春蕾计划:1989年由中国少年儿童基金会发起并组织实施,是一项救助贫困地区失学女童重返校园的社会公益事业。

A New Great WallThis week, film star Jackie Chan planted trees near Beijing‟s Great Wall as part of the Green Great project. It is hoped that the new Green Great Wall will help to stop the sandstorms that hit Beijing every spring. Dust from these sandstorms comes from deserts in the north of China and destroys farmers‟ crops, stops planes from flying and damages machines. It also makes people ill because of the way in which it damages (破坏) their lungs (肺). The sandstorms also hit Korea and even Japan.Two hundred college students helped the kungfu film star to plant the trees next to the Badaling Great Wall. This is just one part of the Green Great Wall which runs through Qinghai and all the way to Tibet (西藏). The Green Great Wall is about four thousand kilometers long. Some areas are hard to reach, so scientists are using planes to drop seeds (种子) in these places. The grass and tress are very tough. They were carefully chosen by scientists who hope that they will be able to grow in very cold weather.The project will cost a lot of money, but scientists say that the Green Great Wall is needed to protect the balance of nature (自然的平衡). It will be hard to plant the grass there is frozen (被冷冻的). However, it is very important because of all the plants and animals that live there. Many of China‟s major rivers also start there.The project is ambitious (有雄心的), but a similar (相似的) project has already been successful. In 1935, parts of the USA were damaged by sandstorms from deserts in the south, so the American government planted trees from Texas (得克萨斯州) to Canada. [指点迷津] against用作介词,其具体意思如下:(1)相反;反对;违反;违背;逆。

探究点:by the ti me的意思是“_______”。

by the time通常引导一个时间状语从句,表示“到……的时候”,主句则表示在此时间之前某个事件已完成。

值得注意的是,从句用一般过去时,主句通常用过去完成时;从句用一般现在时,主句通常用将来完成时。

如果主句的谓语是be动词或者是像know等表示认知的持续性动词,则往往用一般过去时,不用完成时。
