A close friend is what every individual longs after. After all,a day without friendship is like a day without sunshine. A true friend should be one from who we can resort to for help or getvaluable suggestions when we are in time of adversity. People differ greatly in their views as to whether or not guidance and advice from older friends is superior to the counterparts from peers. As I see it,advice from elderly friends deserves more praises, although suggestions from our peers are never without their merits. For a start, rich life experience could be seen as a sort of precious wealth, including those bitter or frustrating experiences. Every individual grows up via experiencing failure or dilemma, one might,at times, feel puzzled, thereby,he or she needs advice and guidance from friends.Under such circumstances, older friends could be our best teachers because they have accumulated a pool of life wisdom, thus, their advice could be precious life guidance. A survey is persuasive enough to justify my stand, the survey conducted by Vista, after consulting many people have found that most respondents claimed that compared with communicating with peers, they prefer to get advice from elderly friends, for their suggestions could help to diminish the likelihood of failure and avoid detours. This debate reminds me of my Uncle Paul, who is a successful business leader. My uncle had studied in New Zealand for more than five years, so, he strongly recommended me to study abroad when facing with the option of studying at home or furthering my study in a foreign country. His suggestion was that a young man could become mature, tenacious and confident by personal struggle in an unfamiliar environment. After listening to my uncle’s advice, I studied even harder during the process of self-improvement, I happily found that I can be more attentive and have more self-discipline. Moreimportantly, I had a clear goal to fight for. It was the suggestion form my uncle that helps me to hardened my heart to study overseas. I had deliberately chosen to lead the life I desire, for the life wisdom learning from my uncle could be considered as a shortcut to success.Indeed,I have to concede that suggestions from peers might still their merits to some extent. An argument hold by some people is that people of the similar age have a lot in common such as growth environment or educational background,in this sense, their communication could be more convincing.Furthermore, some people might argue that the experiences of past bear little relevance to today’s life. What I want to rebut, however,is that youngs ter’s understanding about life is far from mature compared with those from older friends, after all, older friends are more far-sighted and wise.In closing,I re-affirm my conviction that guidance and suggestions from mature friends expert a far more profound and beneficial effect on one’s action.
The Relationship Between Hard Work and LongevityIntroductionIn today's fast-paced world, the relationship between hard work and longevity has become an increasingly relevant topic for discussion. Many people believe that putting in long hours and sacrificing personal time for work can lead to success and a longer life. However, others argue that working too much can actually have a negative impact on one's health and ultimately shorten their lifespan. In this essay, we will explore the various ways in which hard work can affect longevity and discuss the importance of finding a balance between work and personal life. The Benefits of Hard WorkThere is no denying the fact that hard work is often associated with success and achievement. People who are willing to put in the time and effort necessary to excel in their careers are more likely to be promoted, earn higher salaries, and enjoy a greater sense of fulfillment in their work. Additionally, studies have shown that individuals who are motivated and dedicated to their jobs are less likely to experience stress and burnout, which can have a positive impact on their overall health and well-being.Furthermore, hard work can also lead to better physical health. People who are actively engaged in their work are more likely to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle, which can help prevent diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. By staying busy and focused on their goals, individuals are able to keep their minds sharp and their bodies in good shape, which can contribute to a longer and healthier life. The Drawbacks of OverworkingWhile hard work can have its benefits, there is also a downside to working too much. In today's competitive society, many people feel pressured to work long hours in order to stay ahead of the game and achieve success. This constant grind can lead to burnout, fatigue, and a decline in mental and physical health. Studies have shown that individuals who work more than 50 hours per week are at a higher risk of developing chronic health conditions such as heart disease, depression, and even premature death. Moreover, overworking can also take a toll on one's personal life. People who are constantly consumed by their jobs may neglect their relationships, hobbies, and self-care, which can lead to feelings of isolation and unhappiness. Without a proper work-life balance, individuals may find themselves feelingunfulfilled and stressed, which can ultimately impact their quality of life and longevity.Finding the Right BalanceIn order to achieve longevity and success in both their personal and professional lives, individuals must strive to find a balance between hard work and relaxation. It is important to set boundaries and prioritize self-care in order to avoid burnout and maintain overall well-being. Taking breaks, getting enough sleep, and engaging in activities that bring joy and satisfaction are essential for maintaining a healthy work-life balance.Additionally, it is crucial to cultivate strong relationships with friends and family, as social connections have been shown to improve both physical and mental health. By investing time and energy into building meaningful relationships and engaging in activities outside of work, individuals can experience a greater sense of fulfillment and happiness, which can contribute to a longer and more fulfilling life.ConclusionIn conclusion, the relationship between hard work and longevity is complex and multifaceted. While working hard can lead to success and a sense of accomplishment, it is important tostrike a balance between work and personal life in order to maintain good health and overall well-being. By prioritizing self-care, setting boundaries, and nurturing relationships, individuals can achieve a more fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle that promotes longevity and happiness.Ultimately, finding harmony between work and leisure is key to living a long, healthy, and fulfilling life. By recognizing the importance of balance and making time for self-care and relaxation, individuals can achieve success and longevity without sacrificing their well-being.。

According to anthropologists, people in preindustrial societies spent 3 to 4 hours per day or about 20 hours per week doing the work necessary for life. Modern comparisons of the amount of work performed per week, however, begin with the Industrial Revolution (1760-1840) when 10- to 12-hour workdays with six workdays per week were the norm. Even with extensive time devoted to work, however, both incomes and standards of living were low. As incomes rose near the end of the Industrial Revolution, it became increasingly common to treat Saturday afternoons as a half-day holiday. The half holiday had become standard practice in Britain by the 1870's, but did not become common in the United States until the 1920's.1In the United States, the first third of the twentieth century saw the workweek move from 60 hours per week to just under 50 hours by the start of the 1930's. In 1914 Henry Ford reduced daily work hours at his automobile plants from 9 to 8. In 1926 he announced that henceforth his factories would close for the entire day on Saturday. At the time, Ford received criticism from other firms such as United States Steel and Westinghouse, but the idea was popular with workers. The Depression years of the 1930's brought with them the notion of job sharing to spread available work around; the workweek dropped to a modem low for the United States of 35 hours. In 1938 the Fair Labor Standards Act mandated a weekly maximum of 40 hours to begin in 1940,and since that time the 8-hour day, 5-day workweek has been the standard in the United States.Adjustments in various places, however, show that this standard is not immutable. In 1987, for example, German metalworkers struck for and received a 37.5-hour workweek; and in 1990 many workers in Britain won a 37-hour week. Since 1989, the Japanese government has moved from a 6- to a 5-day workweek and has set a national target of 1,800 work hours per year for the average worker. The average amount of work per year in Japan in 1989 was 2,088 hours per worker, compared to 1,957 for the United States and 1,646 for France.2托福阅读题目:1.
4People should take time to relax with hobbies or physical activities that are very different from what they do at work.
参考范⽂: The reading passage discusses three reasons that may lead to the downfall of an empire. However, the professor finds these reasons groundless. First, the reading material argues that resistance from defeated city-states may lead to the downfall of the empire. However, the professor immediately points out that after those city-states was defeated, their defensive walls were torn down. Without protective walls, their resistance was in vain. Second, about the scarce rainfall, the professor says that although it’s true that sometimes the empire would suffer from periods of drought, their irrigation system could help bring water from very far away which could meet the needs of the empire therefore the empire did not disappear because of the little rainfall. Third, it is true that there existed unfair trade which indeed aroused some estrangement. However, the professor claims that the empire had the ability to establish new trading contacts which could mak up for the costs resulted from the breakup of former business relationships.。

审题关键词:enjoyable, long hours, three days, five days, shorter hours论证分析:同意:Use the four days to take a tripFour days a week are more than enough time to engage in one’s hobbies不同意:Long hours of work do not provide enough restContinuous hours at job exhaust nerves, lead to psychological disorders inthe long runTPO30独立写作范文:The average American works five days a week. We are long used to the socialnorm “eight hours labor, eig ht hours recreation, eight hours rest.” However, ithas little to do with efficiency or productivity. Personally speaking, I prefer working long hours instead of spending time traveling to work on dailybasis.First, working long hours means one can have more time for vacation. For one thing, time professionals spent commuting everyday can be spent with their families, doing exercise routine, or taking care of diet. In this way, when they come back to work, employers will have energetic workers with clear mind, thus boosting their output and profit as a result. If it’s not enough, people who have long time to relax have been proved to be more creative and productive. When Henry Ford in 1914 famously took the radical step of doubling his workers’pay, and cut shifts in Ford plants from nine hours to eight, he got bitterly criticized by the association of manufacturers. However, when his competitors saw Ford’s business boomed in the next few years, they adopted the same hourly rate. Especially in innovative industries, employees with more spare time always tend to be more creative, for they have more time to reflect on their current works and breed new ideas.Second, working long hours also means achieve consistency. People cannotguarantee that all ones’ works c an be finished within eight hours. Here comes the dilemma. One can either working late tofinish it, or restart the work next day. Anyone who has been in this situation knows the latter one means spending more time on it and low efficiency, while the first one means, willingly or not, one has to work in unpaid overtime. In this respect, allowing people to arrange their time flexibly is a way to fix this problem. If employees choose to work long hours to finish their work within a day, they should get paid and be allowed to rest in the following day to compensate “off-the-clock” hours. Admittedly, working long hours can increase health risks and generate more stress. But we are not talking about it as daily routine. We are talking about having this schedule less than half of a week. So by allocating time wisely, in most cases one can avoid those negative impacts and enjoy their lives more. People take for granted of the eight hour workday, rarely raising questions about the efficiency and the effectiveness as consequences. If professionals are given other options, I believe they will appreciate the shorter week more, and so as for employers.。

Gross rings”(GR)

Which would you choose: a high-paying job with long hours that would give you little time with family and friends or a lower-paying job with shorter hours that would give you more time with family and friends? Explain your choice, using specific reasons and details. I am optimistic that through my studies and continued hard work I will be able to find a job that will provide my future family and me with financial security. We should be able to afford the necessities of life, such as a modest home, enough food to nourish us and keep us in good health, as well as education for our children. Hopefully, I will find myself in the fortunate situation where I can decide between a high-paying job with long hours and a lower-paying job with shorter hours. I would choose the job with the lower salary and greater personal time without hesitation, because my family and friends are the most important things in my life.Time is the greatest investment I can make into the relationships with my wife and my children. A marriage is not just a decision one makes but a promise that one keeps. In order to do so one has to be there for the other person and share moments of joy as well as times of difficulty. Nowadays, too many relationships wither away as thepartners are unable to work out their problems or bond through meaningful experiences. Personal careers become too important and family time becomes a rare occurrence. The absence of one parent, due to professional career or divorce, can have a very negative effect on a child’s development. The child might question his value to father or mother (depending on which one is continually absent) and develop low self-esteem. Without the presence of either or, worse, both parents, the child will be more likely to make bad decisions as he is lacking proper guidance. And there is one point should also be mentioned, i.e. neither expensive toys nor fancy clothes can compensate for this.Lastly, I can derive more pleasure from spending time with my friends than I ever could from driving a sports car or taking luxury vacations. The inner peace and balance that I enjoy from their company are invaluable to me. Also, a million dollars in the bank would be wor th nothing if I didn’t have the time to enjoy these riches with my friends.。

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? For success in a future job, the ability to relate well to people is more important than studying hard in school. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.范文(工作类):Everyone in the society is seeking for success in career, but what is the key factor of becoming successful? There are two choices – good networking and hardworking. Although someone tends to choose the first aspect, I definitely agree that hardworking at school should be a key factor of success. Without hardworking at school, success in the future cannot be guaranteed. To gain success in our future career, we must have solid knowledge of the field we choose. Under this circumstance, doing hard at school is the best way to equip ourselves with background knowledge. Although sometimes we may find things we have studied at school sort of unpractical, it is basic to handle real problems at work. Take myself as an example; I studied how to interview, how to write summaries and journals and how to make comments on subjects at school. I worked very hard and in the third year, I gota chance to be an intern in China Economic Daily. During this time, I totally put my knowledge into use and handle the real journalism with only a few problems. If I did not study hard and had no knowledge of journalism, how could I handle this internship?Another thing we can get from our hard work is the way of solving problems. During the time we studied at school, methods of learning and solving problems are also of great importance. These methods can be put into use even when we graduate, since we all have to update our knowledge and solve problems when we are at work. Again take myself as an example, when I did my internship, I had to write down a lot of details of a certain event in just a few minutes. It was really difficult, but since I had found out a method of writing fast at school, I could put down things on paper really efficiently. This method provided a lot of help. While some one may claim that we cannot ignore the importance of networking since a good networking may offer you greater chances to gain success. Anyway, I admit that we cannot get rid of a good networking. However, if we are not studying hard and have no abilities to do things well, how can people pay attention on us or even provide us with good opportunities? Hardworking is the foundation of establishing good relationship. All in all, hardworking should be the key factor of becoming successful. It provides us with solid background knowledge and the ability of solving problems needed for success in the future.范文所涉及词汇讲解(工作类)seek for success in career追求事业上的成功the key factor of……的关键因素good networking良好的人际关系cannot be guaranteed无法保证gain success获得成功solid knowledge扎实的知识equip…with装备unpractical不实际的It’s basic to…是基础handle real problems at work处理工作中的实际问题take…as an example以…为例make comment on评论get a chance to获得…机会put…into use应用…have knowledge of具备…知识solve problem 解决问题be of great importance很重要update knowledge更新知识in a few minutes立刻find out a method找到方法put down things on paper记录offer…great chances to提供…很大的机会get rid of避免pay attention on sb.

⼀起来看⼀下吧!Reading&ListeningReadingMost people sleep every night and sometimes even during the day.One question that researchers in the field of medicine have often tried to answer is why people need sleep. It appears as though there are three reasons for this. The first is that sleep improves people’s memory functions.Next, people sleep in order to conserve energy. And,finally, people sleep to flush the body—particularly the brain—of harmful toxins. For several decades, scientists have conducted experiments focusing on sleep and memory functions. Through these experiments, they have learned that people who sleep regularly and for long enough—usually six or seven hours a night—have much better cognitive abilities and memory retention than those who fail to get enough sleep.Additionally, people who have more dreams, which occur during REM sleep, typically have better memories than those who get less REM sleep. When people sleep, their bodies are restored, and their energy is replenished.Sleep allows a person's body to repair itself while simultaneously letting it conserve energy. When a person is sleeping, his or her body uses less energy;therefore, that individual has more energy upon awaking. This helps explain why some animals, such as bears, hibernate:They can survive on little stored energy for a long period of time.Experiments conducted on humans have proven that, after prolonged periods of sleep, their brains have fewer toxins than when they were awake.By cleansing the brain of toxins, people can think more clearly. Moreover, after getting sufficient sleep, they feel more refreshed upon waking. This permits people to engage in everyday functions with a clearmind.Contrarily, the less sleep a person gets, the more toxins remain in that individual’s brain. As a result, the person is both fuzzy headed and less productive.
Students should not take part-time jobs while they are studying in the university这题说大学生不应该兼职,这一题跟刚才的题很像,刚才讲的题是隐藏all,这题也是的,这题也没有明显的绝对词,也没有明显的比较级,他一个隐藏all的题目,因为他前面的主语是students这是名词复数,他暗指所有的学生,我们在做题的时候,就在他前面加一个all,就是all students should not,所有的学生都不应该简直,怎么写,让步段首先人的准确性,就是跟刚才一样,我们还记得刚才的隐藏all 题目怎么给大家介绍方法的吗,是什么方法来写?
Students who are busy with studies and college club activities.

In the United States, employees typicallywork five days a week for eighthours each day. However, many employees want towork a four-day week and arewilling to accept less pay in order to do so. Amandatory policy requiringcompanies to offer their employees the option of workinga four-day workweek forfour-fifths (80 percent) of their normal pay wouldbenefit the economy as a wholeas well as the individual companies and the employeeswho decided to take theoption.
The shortened workweek would increasecompany profits because employees wouldfeel more rested and alert, and as aresult, they would make fewer costly errorsin their work. Hiring more staff toensure that the same amount of work would beaccomplished would not result inadditional payroll costs because four-dayemployees would only be paid 80percent of the normal rate. In the end, companieswould have fewer overworkedand error-prone employees for the same money, whichwould increase companyprofits.
For the country as a whole, one of theprimary benefits of offering thisoption to employees is that it would reduceunemployment rates. If many full-timeemployees started working fewer hours, someof their workload would have to beshifted to others. Thus, for every fouremployees who went on an 80 percent week,a new employee could be hired at the80 percent rate.
Finally, the option of a four-day workweekwould be better for individualemployees. Employees who could afford a lowersalary in exchange for more freetime could improve the quality of their livesby spending the extra time withtheir families, pursuing private interests, orenjoying leisure activities.
托福综合写作阅读部分需要提取的观点是:- Main point: A mandatory policy requiringcompanies to offer their employeesthe option of working a four-day workweekfor four-fifths (80 percent) of theirnormal pay would benefit the economy as awhole as well as the individualcompanies and the employees who decided to takethe option.- Sub point 1: The shortened workweek wouldincrease company profits.- Sub point 2: the country as a whole willbenefits.- Sub point 3: the option of a four-dayworkweek would be better forindividual employees.
Offering employees the option of a four-dayworkweek won’t affect the companyprofits, economic conditions or the lives ofemployees in the ways the readingsuggests.
First, offering a four-day workweek willprobably force companies to spendmore, possibly a lot more. Adding new workersmeans putting much more money intoproviding training and medical benefits.Remember the costs of things like healthbenefits can be the same whether anemployee works four days or five. And havingmore employees also requires moreoffice space and more computers. Theseadditional costs would quickly cut intocompany profits.
Second, with respect to overall employment,it doesn’t follow that once someemployees choose a four-day workweek, manymore jobs will become available.Hiring new workers is costly, as I argued amoment ago. And companies have otheroptions. They might just choose to asktheir employees to work overtime to makeup the difference. Worse, companiesmight raise expectations. They might start toexpect that their four-dayemployees can do the same amount of work they used todo in five days. If thishappens, then no additional jobs will be created andcurrent jobs will becomemore unpleasant.
