Building the pyramids
Because the pyramids were huge, it took a lot of time and work to build them. Many engineers, architects, masons and artists were employed over many years to build each one.
Thousands of labourers also worked on the pyramids each year.
The labourers were mostly local farmers who gave up a few months of their time each year to help out.
The First Step
The first step in building a pyramid was to pick a site. Then architects and engineers worked together to design the pyramid and make sure that it would be strong and safe.
Not all pyramids were the same. Some were taller than the others. Some had different angles because their bases were larger than others.
All of them were constructed differently inside, too. Many were made up of stone only, while some were filled with a mix of stone, mud bricks, and even sand.
Cutting the Stone
Building work began when the pyramid was designed. There was a lot of stone in Egypt, and builders of pyramids often found supplies of stone nearby that they could use.
The Egyptians had no machinery or iron tools.
Stone masons had to dig the stone from the ground and then cut it into large blocks using only copper and stone hand tools.

Yang Yang has good looks and a nice smile. But behind his pretty face is a stubborn (倔强的) heart. The hit TV drama A Smile Is Beautiful (《微微一笑很倾城》) makes this 25-year-old actor more popular. The show is from writer Gu Man’s book. He plays a smart college student. His

Yang’s acting life started well. At the age of 16, he played Ji a Baoyu in the TV drama A Dream of Red Mansions (《红楼梦》). But that doesn’t mean he never had “ups and downs”.
For a while, he felt lost in acting. Yang once was a dancer and graduated from Pe ople’s Liberation Army Academy of Art. “At the beginning, I didn’t know how to be an actor,” but he says he likes to compete (较劲) with himself. Many stars working with Yang say he tries his best in everything.
“So many times he felt his acting was not good enough and asked to try it again. He couldn’t be more serious (认真的),” Alee Su, director (导演) of movie The Left Ear (《左耳》), said in a talk show.
Yang is even serious about games. In the show Happy Camp, he once competed with South Korean actor Ji Chang-wook (池昌旭), 29, in arm wrestling (扳手腕). Even though Yang was very tired, he still kept fighting to the end.
