英国人偏爱使用Dear Sirs,而美国人偏爱使用 Gentlemen。英国人称呼后用逗号或不用标点符号;美国人 称呼后用冒号。这些称呼语看似简单,却绝不可大意。 此时,可以根据汉语习惯进行套译。如果是泛称的Dear Sirs,Dear Madam或Gentlemen,可沿用我国旧式书信的 启事语,套译为 “敬启者”或“谨启者”。如果是称呼具体 的人时,如Dear Mr. Wang,Dear Ms. Lin,正式场合下我们 可用敬称“王先生台鉴”、“林女士惠鉴”。除此以外,类 似的敬辞还有“玉鉴”、“钧鉴”、“大鉴”、“尊鉴”等 。但是,这些汉语旧式书信中的敬称的使用,要根据对象是 长辈还是晚辈等具体情况加以选择。
