Today we are going to do something special. We have a guest speaker on the air with us. I’m going to ask him to tell us his own idea of learning English as a second language. Hello. Fred!

Hello. Peter! Thank you for letting me come here today. 特邀的

That’s my pleasure to have a chance to talk to you. So I’m going to ask you two questions. I hope that you can tell our listeners as to how to learn English efficiently.

Now in general, Chinese students are very passive or shy when they are learning English. They are afraid to ask questions. Even if, there’re something they don’t understand. So what’s the suggestions would you like to give to our listeners. 19:22

Well first Peter. You hit the nail on my head. This is the biggest problem I encountered while I’ve been teaching here for over three years. Most Chinese students will not ask questions. They’re very, as you say, passive. By not asking questions creates a lot of problems for the teachers, especially. because if a teacher does n’t understand or thinks the students know. They will not spend special time explain. So it’s always very difficult and takes me a long time to try to understand what the students know and what they don’t know. So the students could get out of the habit of not asking questions. It would be a big relief to most teachers. I’m sure. 20:10
