(英语)高考英语阅读理解抓分精品训练及解析一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解There might be as many as 10 million species of complex life on this planet today —— a huge number. But add up all of the complex species that ever lived and some biologists think the grand total would be about five billion. The estimate leads to an astonishing conclusion: a staggering 99% of species are not around any more. They have been driven to extinction.More species are joining the ranks of the extinct every year. Many scientists believe we are living through an episode of remarkably rapid extinction, on a scale that has been seen only five times in the last half a billion years. They call this current episode the sixth mass extinction —— a large, global decline in a wide variety of species over a relatively short period of time. And they tend to agree that humans arethe main cause.Over-hunting, overfishing, and human-driven habitat loss are pushing many species to the brink. In fact, we have changed the planet so much that some geologists are now suggesting thatwe have entered a new phase in Earth's history; an epoch they call the "Anthropocene". By 2100, it is expected that humans will have caused the extinction of up to half of the world's current species.Because we are living through this extinction, it is relatively easy for us to study the driving forces behind it. But how do we determine what caused other mass die-offs that happened long ago? To do so we have to look at what archaeologists, palaeontologists, geologists and other scientists have concluded from the evidence they have gathered. The trouble is, those scientists do not always agree with one another —— even about the most recent extinction event. As well as the five-or six- mass extinctions, there have also been many smaller extinctions. One of these mini extinction events happened towards the end of the Pleistocene, a few tensof thousands of years ago. It is sometimes called the "megafaunal" extinction because many ofthe species it claimed were particularly large animals, weighing more than 97lb (44kg). However, its cause remains a debate amongst scientists.(1)What can we learn about the sixth mass extinction?A. Humans are the main cause of it.B. It means a global decline over a long time.C. It occurred towards the end of the Pleistocene.D. Scientists still disagree about the causeof it.(2)What can be inferred from the text about species?A. 99% of species will not be around any more by 2100.B. By the 22nd century, there will probably be about five million on this planet.C. About eight years later we will enter what is called the "Anthropocene".D. It is not easy for us to figure out causes behind the"Anthropocene".(3)Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word in the last paragraph ?A. Land animals.B. Marine life.C. Huge animals.D.

高考英语阅读理解抓分精选训练(44)阅读理解 CGreenspace facilities (设备) are contributing to an important degree to thequality of the city environment. Fortunately it is no longer necessary that everylecture or every book about this subject has to start with the proof of this idea.At present it is generally accepted, although more as a self-proved statement thanon the ba se of a closely reasoned scientific proof. Recognizing the importance ofgreenspaces in the city environment is a first step on the right way, this does not mean, however, that enough details are known about the functions of greenspace in townsand about the way in which people are using these spaces. As to this subjectI shall within the scope (范围) of this lecture, enter into one aspect only, namelythe recreative function of greenspace facilities. The theoretical separation of living, working, traffic and recreation which formany years has been used in town and country planning, has in my opinion resultedin more attention for forms of recreation far from home, while there was relativelylittle attention for improvement of recreative possibilities in the direct neighborhood of the home. Wehave come to the conclusion that this is not right, because an important part of the time which we do not pass in sleeping or working, is usedfor activities at and around home. So it is obvious that recreation in the open airhas to begin at the street door of the house. The city environment has to offer a s many recreation activities as possible, and the design of these has to be such thatmore required activities can also have recreative aspect. The very best standard of living is nothing if it is not possible to take a pleasant walk in the district,if the children cannot be allowed to play in the streets because the risks of traffic are too great, if during shopping you can nowhere find a spotfor enjoying for a moment the nice weather, in short, if you only feel yo urself at home after the street door of your house is closed after you.10. The importance of greenspaces in the city environment _____.A. is still unknownB. is paid little attention toC. is accepted on the base of scientific proofD. has been recognized11.For many years town and country planning has _____.A.brought living areas and places of entertainment close togetherB.separated recreation facilities far from homeC.improved recreative possibilities in the neighborhoodD.enabled people to reach the best standard of living12.The word “recreation ” in the passage probably means,_____.A. activities done for pleasure or enjoymentB. doing something again in acreative wayC. doing something important after workD. required activities done afterwork13.According to the author, greenspaces should be designed _____.A.to reduce the number of recreative activitiesB.to attract more and more peopleC.for people to use more convenientlyD.for people to do recreative activities at the street door of the house14.The main idea of this passage is that _____.A.attention must be paid to the improvement of recreationB.greenspace facilities should be used better to improve the quality of lifeC.the city environment is providing more recreative activitiesD.we should try our best to raise our living standard参照答案10— 14 DBACB(三)[2013 ·安徽省级示范高中名校联考]Switzerland is the best place to be born in the world in 2013, and the US is just 16th. The disease was caused when he overused his eyes during the winter vacation, during which he played computer games for continuous 10 days and nights. Many youngsters in China nowadays are increasingly addicted to computer games and other electronic products. This is followed by a series of health problems, with the most typical case being myopia, or nearsightedness.According to the latest research report released by the World Health Organization (WHO),the myopia rate among Chinese teenagers ranks first in the world—70 percent of high school and college students. The rate is nearly 40 percent in primary school students, while it is only 10 percent for their peers in the United States. There are at least 10 million people in China with severe myopia, and they are likely to get pathological myopia(病理性的近视)in middle age. Pathological myopia can't be treated with glasses or surgery, and it is one of the biggest factors that lead to blindness, Xu Xun, an expert at Shanghai General Hospital, pointed out.Experts explain that two major factors lead to the high rate of myopia among Chinese people. One is high academic pressure, and the other one is excessive use of electronic devices over a long period of time. Genetics, on the other hand, are not the main reason, as only 20 percent of Chinese people had myopia in the 1960s."Teenagers are now faced with severe academic pressure, which means they often study without natural light. This increases their risk of becoming nearsighted," Xu said. Experts suggest that youngsters maintain a proper balance between study and rest so as to protect their eyesight, and parents should play an active role in the process.(1)Why does the author mention Feifei's experience in the first paragraph?A. To advise people to protect their eyes.B. To introduce the topic of nearsightedness.C. To inform people of the cause of blindness.D. To show that Feifei developed an eye disease.(2)What can be learnt from the passage?A. Nearsightedness may cause other health problems.B. There are more nearsighted students in the United States.C. 70 percent Chinese students in primary school are nearsighted.D. Pathological myopia is most likely to cause blindness.(3)Which of the following can be a main reason for myopia?A. Genetics factors.B. Low academic pressure.C. Overuse of electronic devices.D. Reading in natural light.(4)What will be probably discussed in the following paragraph?A. The significance of protecting eyesight.B. Youngsters' bad behavior leading to myopia.C. The relationship between youngsters and their parents.D. Parents' role in helping youngsters protect their eyesight.4.阅读理解Do you love holidays but hate the fact that you put on weight (增加体重) after the holidays? But the doctor knows that medicine is not always needed. Sometimes all a sick person needs is some reassurance that all will be well. In such cases the doctor may prescribe a placebo.A placebo is a sugar pill, a harmless shot, or ail empty capsule. Even though they have no medicine in them, these things seem to make people well. The patient thinks it is medicine and begins to get better. How does this happen? The study of the placebo opens up new knowledge about the way the human body can heal itself. It is as if there was a doctor in each of us. The doctor will heal the body for us if we let it. But it is not yet known just how the placebo works to heal the body. Some people say it works because the human mind fools itself. These people say that if the mind is fooled into thinking it got medicine, then it will act as if it did, and the body will feel better.Placebos do not always work. The success of this treatment seems to rest a lot with the relationship between the patient and the doctor. If the patient has a lot of trust in the doctor and if the doctor really wants to help the patient, then the placebo is more likely to work. So in a way, the doctor is the most powerful placebo of all.A placebo can also have bad effects. If patients expect a bad reaction to medicine, then they will also show a bad reaction to the placebo. This would seem to show that a lot of how you react to medicine is in your mind rather than in your body. Some doctors still think that if the placebo can have bad effects it should never be used. They think there is still not enough known about it.The strange power of the placebo does seem to suggest that the human mind is stronger than we think it is. There are people who say you can heal your body by using your mind. And the interesting thing is that even people who swear this is not possible have been healed by a placebo.(1)What do we know about placebo according to the passage?A. It contains some sort of medicine.B. It won't function if you are negative about medicine.C. People who don't believe placebo can't be healed by it.D. Patients and doctors know clearly how it helps to heal the body.(2)Why is the doctor sometimes the most powerful placebo?A. The patient needs help badly.B. The patient believes in the doctor.C. The doctor knows better about your body.D. The doctor has carefully studied medicine.(3)What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to?A. The placebo.B. The bad effect.C. The body.D. The medicine.(4)What is the passage mainly about?A. Placebo:Work on Your MindB. Placebo:The Most Powerful MedicineC. Placebo:The Best DoctorD. Placebo:Heal Your Body6.阅读理解A new study has discovered that meditation(冥想)and oxygen sport together reduce depression. The Rutgers University study found that this mind and body combination, done twice a week for only two months, reduced the symptoms for a group of students by 40 percent.“We are excited by the findings because we saw such a meaningful improvement in both clinically depressed and non-depressed students,” said lead author Dr. Brandon Alderman. “It is the first time that both of these two behavioral ways have been looked at together for dealing with depression.”Researchers believe the two activities have an interactive effect on combating depression. Alderman and Dr. Tracey Shors discovered that a combination of mental and physical training (MAP) enabled students with major depressive disorder not to let problems or negative thoughts defeat them.Rutgers researchers say those who participated in the study began with 30 minutes of focused attention meditation followed by 30 minutes of oxygen sport. They were told that if their thoughts drifted to the past or the future they should refocus on their breathing, enabling those with depression to accept moment-to-moment changes in attention.Shors, who studies the production of new brain cells in the hippocampus—part of the brain involved in memory and learning—says scientists have shown in animal models that oxygen sport exercise keeps a large number of certain cells alive. The idea for the human intervention(干预)came from her laboratory studies, she says, with the main goal of helping individuals acquire new skills so that they can learn to recover from stressful life events.By learning to focus their attention and exercise, people who are fighting depression can acquire new learning skills that can help them process information and reduce the overwhelming recollection of memories from the past, Shors says.“We know these treatments can be practiced over a lifetime and that they will be effective in improving mental health.” said Alderman. “The good news is that this intervention can be practiced by anyone at any time and at no cost.”(1)What made the research so different?A. Adopting a way of meaningful talk.B. Combining the two behavioral ways to treat depression.C. Treating depression with special medicine.D. Comparing the depressed with the non-depressed. (2)The underlined word “combating” in Parag raph 3 can be replaced by ______.A. fightingB. identifyingC. distinguishingD. examining(3)What did the participants do in the research?A. They did oxygen sport half an hour before thinking.B. They thought quietly and then took exercise.C. They took exercise longer than they thought.D. They took exercise while thinking quietly.(4)What is Shors' main purpose of her studies?A. To find out certain brain cells of humans.B. To study the production of new brain cells.C. To offer people a new method to treat stress.D. To decide the links between stress and exercise.7.阅读理解Herbal medicine (草药), which has been used for medicinal purposes, is the use of plants to treat diseases. Many herbalists use the entire plant, from the flowers, stems, leaves, and roots, in the form of everything from teas to pills. These plants contain natural, chemical things that can treat the body for a variety of diseases- such as allergies, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, migraine, chronic fatigue, and cancer, among others.Nowadays an increasing number of people prefer to adopt these plants to treat their diseases because, compared with chemical medicine, herbal medicine has its own advantages. Herbal medicine and remedies (治疗) are more effective than chemical medicine for certain diseases. The chemical medicine given by a chemist could have certain negative side effects. However, many of the herbal medicine and remedies do not have negative side effects. If any, they are softer than chemical medicine. Obesity is the cause of many of the health problems. Herbal medicine can help weight-loss more effectively and improve overall health. However, the cure using herbal medicine and supplements (营养品) would take some time, and therefore people are supposed to possess enough patience. Worse still, herbal medicine contains a variety of ingredients (成分) and people have to be sure that their body agrees with the ingredients and that it is not allergic (过敏).A point worth mentioning here is herbal remedies and medicine for certain illnesses may have negative side effects. These side effects may not be shown at once, but would take months or even years. In the early stages, if the herbal medicine is not agreeing with you, it is wise to stop using it.When used correctly and directed by doctors, herbs can help treat a variety of diseases. But keep in mind that the herbal medicine industry is not regulated, so herbal products are often misleading and may contain additives (添加剂) and that are not listed on the label (标签). Some herbs may cause allergic reactions or interact with other drugs, and some are poisonous if used improperly or at high doses (剂量). Taking herbs on your own increases your risk.(1)What is the main idea of Paragraph 1?A. The origin of herbal medicine.B. The history of herbal medicine.C. The definition and function of herbal medicine.D. The naturally harmless characteristics of herbal medicine.(2)How does the author explain the advantages of herbal medicine?A. By using examples.B. By making a comparison.C. By analyzing research statistics.D. By performing lots of experiments.(3)What is the author's attitude towards herbal medicine?A. Negative.B. Disapproving.C. Unclear.D. Supportive.(4)Which of the following will the author agree with?A. Choose safe herbal medicine freely.B. Take herbal medicine under the guidance of doctors.C. Use herbs together because the combination is more effective.D. Purchase herbal medicine from reliable manufacturers to ensure quality.8.阅读理解People with an impulsive personality refer to those who tend to do things without considering the possible dangers or problems first. According to a new study by researchers at the University of Georgia, such people may be more likely to have food addiction. The study found that people exhibiting impulsive behavior weren't necessarily overweight, but impulsiveness was related to a direct relationship with food, and therefore, less healthy weight.Food addiction has been compared to addictive drug use. Studies have linked the dopamine (多巴胺) release that occurs after tasting delicious food to the dopamine release that happens when people consume other addictive substances.Impulsive behavior involves several personality traits (特点). Two of these traits, known as negative urgency and lack of perseverance, were particularly associated with food addiction and high BMI (身体质量指数) during the study.Negative urgency is characterized by the tendency to behave impulsively when experiencing negative emotions. Some people might drink alcohol or take drugs. For others, it could mean eating to feel better. Lack of perseverance is when a person has a hard time finishing hard or boring tasks. People with a lack of perseverance might have difficulty attempting to change addictive eating behavior, which could also cause obesity.“Impulsiveness might be one reason why some people eat in an addictive way despi te motivation to lose weight,” said Dr. Ashley Gearhardt, a clinical psychologist. He was involved in developing the Yale Food Addiction Scale in aid of those people. “We are theorizing that if food addiction is really a thing, then our measure, the Yale F ood Addiction Scale, should be related to helping control impulsive action,” said Gearhardt.Clinical psychologist Dr. James MacKillop, whose lab was conducting the study, believes that therapies used to treat addictive drug behavior could help people who suffer from addictive eating habits.“Most of the programs for weight loss at this point focus on the most obvious things, which are clearly diet and exercise,” MacKillop said. “It seems that managing strong desires to eat would naturally fit in wi th the skills a person would need to eat healthily.”(1)According to Paragraph 1, the result of food addiction is ________.A. less healthy weightB. motivation to lose weightC. negative emotionsD. taking alcohol or drugs(2)How does the author introduce the two personality traits in Paragraph 4?A. By making comparisons and conclusions.B. By explaining causes and effects.C. By presenting questions and answers.D. And the book has inspired many plays and movies. The first play was put on in 1844. The first two movies were silent films made in 1901 and 1908. Since then, the story has been remade more than 60 times for television and cinema. What makes such a tale so attractive? Audiences have always loved a good plot, a villain(反面人物) who harms other people or breaks the law, and the ending of right over wrong. The book offers all three. The book tells the story of a man named Ebenezer Scrooge. He is mean and cruel(残忍的) to his clerk and turns away his only living relative. One night, Scrooge is visited by three spirits. The first shows scenes from Scrooge's youth that led to this present state. The second takes him to the homes of his clerk and his nephew. Here Scrooge sees that people can be happy without lots of money. The spirit also shows him the desperate poor people of London. The third spirit shows Scrooge will die alone, and no one will care if he continues to live as he has. At last the message is understood, and Scrooge repents. When the bundle was in her arms and she moved the fold of cloth to look upon his tiny face, she gasped. The doctorturned quickly and looked out of the tall hospital window. The baby had been born without ears.Time proved that the baby’ s hearing was perfect. It was only his appearance that was imperfect. When he rushed home from school one day and threw himself into his mother’s arms, she sighed, knowing that his life was to be misfortunate. He cried out the tragedy, “A boy, a big boy... called me a freak (怪人).”He grew up, handsome. A favourite with his fellow students, he might have been class president, but for that. He developed a gift, a talent for literature and music. “But you might communicate with other young people,” his mother blamed him, but felt a kindness in her heart. Two years went by. One day, his father said to the son, “You’ re going to the hospital, son. Mother and I have someone who will donate the ears you need. But it’ s a secret.” The operation was a brilliant success, and a new person emerged.Later he married and entered the diplomatic service. One day, he asked his father, “Who gave me the ears? 高考英语阅读理解抓分精品练习(1)
高考英语阅读理解抓分精选练习(1)【阅读理解猜想词义】Passage ****************A few years ago it was popular to speak of a penetration gap, a disagreementbetween young people and their elders. Parents said that children did not show themproper respect and obedience, while children complained ( 诉苦 ) that their parentsdid not understand them at all What had gone wrong? Why had the generation gap suddenly appeared? Actually the generation gap has been around for a long time. Many peopleargue that a gap is built into the fabric ( 构造 ) of our society. One important cause of the generation gap is the chance that young people haveto choose their own ways of life. In more traditional societies, when children growup, they are expected to live in the same area as their parents, to marry people thattheir parents know and agree to, and to continue the family occupation ( 职业 ). Inour society, young people often travel great distances for their education, move outof the family home at an early age, marry or live with people whomtheir parents have never met, and choose occupations different from those of their parents. In our easily changing society, parents often expect their children to do betterthan they did; to find better jobs, to make more money; and to do all the things thatthey were unable to do. Often, however, the strong desire that parents have for their children are another cause of the disagreement between them. Often, they discoverthat they have very little in common with each other. Finally, the speed at which changes take place in our society is another causeof the gap between the generations. In a traditional culture, elderly people are valuedfor their wisdom, but in our society the knowledge of a lifetime may become out ofdate overnight. The young and the old seem to live in two very different worlds, separated by different skills and abilities. No doubt, the generation gap will continue to be a feature ( 特色 ) of Americanlife for some time to come It ’s causes are rooted in the freedom and changes ofour society, and in the rapid speed at which society changes.1. The main idea of the first paragraph is that________.A. the generation gap suddenly appearedB. the generation gap is a feature of modern social lifeC. people can reduce the generation gapD. many critics argue over the nature of the generation gap答案: B 指导:本段最后一句。

So how did Chinese people in ancient times keep food warm in winter without these? In fact, ancient Chinese people used their own methods of heat preservation as early as the Shang and Zhou dynasties.● “Wen Ding”, ancient rice cookerOne of the major functions of an ele ctric rice cooker is to keep food warm. The “Wen Ding”, an ancient cooking container, served the same purpose, but instead of using electric energy, the ancient cooking container preserved heat by burning fuels like charcoal. The “Wen Ding” unearthed in Na njing in 1989 is thought to be the oldest of its kind discovered in China, dating back to the Stone Age, The craftsmanship of making the “Wen Ding” was developed in the Bronze Age. The bronze Ding from Shang and Zhou dynasties took on different shapes and structures.● “Ran LU”, ancient small hot potThe “Ran LU” is a small size cooking vessel (器皿)made of bronze, which can be divided into three parts. A charcoal stove forms the main structure, with a bottom tray to hold charcoal ashes, and a movable cup at the top. Some experts have concluded that the vessel’s structure suggests it may have been used as a small hot pot and that these vessels became popular in the Warring States Period(475—221 BC)●Bronze You, ancient kettleThe Bronze You was one of the most common wine containers during the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The Bronze You can also be used to warm wine. For example, the Bronze You with beast mask design, unearthed in Jiangxi province, has an opening where charcoals could be placed. Just as people to day can’t do without an electric kettle, the Bronze You allowed people to enjoy a hot drink.●Bronze Yan, ancient steamerAlthough the “Wen Ding” was effective at keeping food warm, the ancient Chinese people later found that its burning produced pollution. As a result, the Bronze Yan was made with a two-tier structure and used to steam rice and other grains. After the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25-AD 220), further improvements to the Bronze Yan led to the modern-day steamer.1.When did the “Ran LU” become popular?A.In the Zhou DynastyB.In the Warring States PeriodC.In the Eastern Han dynastyD.In the Stone Age2.The Bronze You, unearthed in Jiangxi province, has an opening to______.A.store wineB.pour waterC.place charcoalsD.hold charcoal ashes3.What is the unique advantage of the Bronze Yan?A.It is warmB.It is convenientC.It is environment-friendlyD.It is useful4.Among the following products, which one may have the longest history?A.The “Wen Ding”.B.The “Ran LU”.C.The Bronze YouD.The Bronze YanEEach time Chinese New Year is approaching, preparations are underway around the world. Though my mother teases us, I do not mind getting two sets of gifts!Hanukkah is celebrated on the 25th day Of the Jewish month, which is usually sometime in December. On Hanukkah, like most Jewish families, we light a menorah and say a prayer each night. We also say a special prayer on the first night. After that, it is a tradition for my sister and me to do ‘hot and cold’ for our hidden Hanukkah gifts. When we walk towards the gift, our parents say ‘hot’ and when we walk further away, they say ‘cold’. We each receive one present every night of Hanukkah. Another part I like about this holiday is seeing family members who we do not see often. My aunt usually stays for a few days, and we sometimes visit other relatives.Diwali is celebrated on the 13th day of the dark fortnight of the month of Ashwin (October / November). To celebrate Diwali, my family does a pooja, or prayers, in honor of the goddess Lakshmi. Since she is the goddess of wealth and prosperity, the pooja includes washing silver coins in milk and water. InIndia, people decorate their houses with lamps, similar to the way you might light up your house for Christmas. My family just places a few candles outside. We also set off firecrackers, which is my favorite part. We often do this activity with friends to add to the excitement. Both holidays have different histories and stories. We celebrate theta in different ways, yet they both have the same meaning. They both translate into Festival of Lights. and they both mean family and presents for me!1.Why does the author receive gifts on both Hanukkah and Diwali?A.Because he lives in a rich family.B.Because he lives in two different countries.C.Because his Parents like celebrating their different cultures.D.Because his Parents like spending money buying gifts for them.2.What does the Underlined phrase “hot and cold” in Paragraph 2 refer to?A.A kind of Hanukkah’ game.B.A kind of Hanukkah gift.C.A can of festival drink.D.A riddle written on lights.3.We can learn from the text that Hanukkah and Diwali_________.A.share the same history and cultureB.are celebrated by both Jews and IndiansC.are both related to the legend of lightsD.encourage the families to do their prayers4.What is the author’s attitude towards Hanukkah and Diwali?A.She enjoys celebrating both of them.B.She does mind spending them.C.She likes Hanukkah better.D.She likes Diwali better.HTraditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is gaining global popularity. According to a government white paper, TCM has been introduced in 183 countries and regions around the world.Westerners’ understanding of TCM, however, may be limited to acupuncture, cupping and massage(针灸,拔罐和按摩). For instance, the purple, injury-like marks left on U. S. swimmer Michael Phelps, back from cupping for the purpose of relaxing his muscles and reducing pain became the center of attention during the Rio Olympics in 2016.As a matter of fact, Chinese herbs play a more important role in getting rid of diseases and keeping the body in good condition in the TCM treatment system than physical treatment. It is therefore disheartening to know that while 103 World Health Organization member countries have given approval to the practice of acupuncture, not many recognize Chinese herbal medicine. TCM falls far behind Western medicine owing partly to the slow development of Chinese herbs.Herbs are made into pills, powder and soup, and the kind of herbs used, their quality and quantity, and the processing of the ingredients (原材料) jointly determine the effectiveness of the prescription. Compared with Western medicine, which has standardized drug production processes and treatment methods, TCM lacks standardization, with the chemical composition and functions of its medicines being unclear and their effects being unstable. Fortunately, standardization has improved in recent decades, with an increasing number of factories producing patented TCM drugs.Another factor that has prevented the development of TCM prescription drugs is the lack of creativity. While Western medicine-making companies come up with new products every year, TCM drug producers tend to make medicines according to prescriptions handed down from the past. Chinese chemist Tu Youyou’s winning the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for her research into malaria (疟疾) treatment may drive creativity to some extent in China’s TCM industry. However, the current state of affairs cannot be changed within a short time.1.Why does the author mention the example of Michael Phelps?A.Because he was injured in his swimming.B.Because cupping is a kind of important TCM treatment.C.Because westerners know a little about TCM.D.Because westerners attach great importance to TCM.2.Why don’t some member countries of WHO recognize Chinese herbal medicine?A.Because Chinese herbs can get rid of diseases.B.Because they only approve the practice of acupuncture.C.Because Western medicine is more effective.D.Because medicine made out of Chinese herbs develops slowly.pared with Western medicine, what is the weak point of TCM in Paragraph 4?A.The methods of planting herbs.B.The effectiveness of prescription.cking in standardization.D.Its stable functions.4.The lack of creativity in TCM refers to the fact that.A.medicine-making companies lack creativityB.prescriptions are got from the pastC.Western companies are more experiencedD.medicine-making companies lack driving force答案及解析A答案:1.B; 2.A; 3.D; 4.D解析:1.细节理解题。

高中英语真题:2014高考英语阅读理解抓分练习(39)及答案阅读理解When I was a child, I often dreamed of the time when I could le ave home and escape to the city. We lived on a farm and,in the winter especially, we were quite cut off from the outside w orld. As soon as I left school, I packed my bags and moved to t he capital. However, I soon discovered that city life has its probl ems too.One big disadvantage is money—it costs so much to go out,not to mention basics like food and housing. Another disadvant age is pollution. I suffer from asthma (哮喘), and at times the air is so bad that I am afraid to go outside. Then there is the problem of traveling round. Although I have a car, I seldom use it because of the traffic jams. One choice is to go by bicycle, but that can be quite dangerous.Of course there are advantages. First, there is so much to do in the city, whatever your tastes in culture or entertainment (娱乐活动). Besides, there are wonderful jobs and greater chances of moving to a more important job or position. Finally,if you like shopping, the variety of goods is very surprising—and, what is more, shops are often only a short walk away.Is life better then,in the city? Perhaps it is,when you are in your teens(十几岁)or twenties. However, as you get older, and especially if you have small children, the peace of the coun tryside may seem preferable. I certainly hope to move back ther e soon.1、. What was the writer always thinking about when he was a child?A. Staying on the farm.B. Moving to the countryside.C. Leaving home for the city.D. AKevin, diagnosed with dyslexia(诵读困难症), rarely spoke a word in class, and if he did, it would be a “Yes”,“No”,or “Maybe”in response to questions. He always scored badly in tests and saw no hope for the future. That was until he met Sarah, an advisor at a youth center Kidpreneur. In 2012, Kevin attended a course called Ready Set Go in that center. The course was for disadvantaged kids in Kingswood—a low-income area in Sydney’s western suburbs—and its goal was to teach the kids how to create businesses and offer value to the neighborhood. At the end of the course, Sarah took the kids to the local area. She asked volunteers to share their business experiences—Kevin immediately put up his hand. His challenge was to trade his hot dog selling service for free bread at a bakery. Although scared, Kevin was able to share his entrepreneurial story(创业故事) with the shop owner and asked if he could exchange his service for some bread. Unexpectedly, the shop owner told Kevin how moved he was by his story and handed him some bread for free. We gaze for hours—about 10 hours and 39 minutes a day—at our computers, smartphones, tabletsand televisions. Is all this staring bad for us? It might be, mainly because aswe stare at our devices we are exposing ourselves to blue light.Blue light is a type of electromagnetic(电磁的) radiation with a very short wavelength thattrue that light can damage our eyes under certain produces a high amount of energy. While it’scircumstances, there’s no scientific evidence suggesting that blue light is harmful to our eyes. But many people still think it is, which is why blue-light-blocking glasses are so popular. So do the glasses work?“Everyone is very concerned that blue light may be causing damage to the eye, but there’s no evidence that it may be causing serious damage,”Dr. Rahul Khurana, clinical spokesman for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, told Business Insider.Blue light exposure is nothing new. In fact, the sun is the largest source of blue light. Moreover, blue light is also present in LED light. But if blue light isn’t harmful, then why are we constantly rubbing our eyes when we’re looking at our screens? The answer is eyestrain(眼疲劳): More than 60 percent of people experience eye problems associated with digital eyestrain. Andblue light, it seems, isn’t the cause. Instead, our eyes are so strained because most of us blink less when we stare at our digital devices. So if eyestrain is the issue, blue-light-blocking glasses are probably of little use.7.What do we know about blue light?A.It is a kind of nuclear radiation.B.It has the shortest wavelength.C.It may come from electronic devices.D.It consumes a great deal of energy.8.What causes the popularity of blue-light-blocking glasses?A.Evidence of their benefits to eyes.B.Belief in blue light’s harmful effect.C.Widespread use of smart devices.D.Scientific understanding of blue light.9.What can be inferred from paragraph 4?A.Blue light exposure is hardly avoidable.B.Eye problems are not easy to deal with.C.Blue light may connect with tired eyes.D.Rubbing eyes makes people strained.10.According to the text, wearing blue-light-blocking glasses may be ________.A.tiring B.harmfulC.useless D.beneficial第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

AUntil I was twelve years old, I thought everyone in the world knew about thegrinnies,if I thought about the term at all — whichis unlikely. After all, everyonein my family used the word quite naturally, and we understood each other. So far asI knew, it was a word like any other word— likebath , or chocolate , or.homeworkBut it was my homework which led to my discovery that grinnies was a word not knownoutside my family. My last report card had said that I was a “C ” student in English, and my parents, both teachers, decided that no child of theirs would be just an average student ofanything. So nightly I spelled words aloud and answered questions about the finepointsof grammar. I wrote and rewrote and rewrote every compositionuntil I convincedmy mother that I could make no more improvements. And the hard work paid off. Oneday the teacher returnedcompositions, and there it was — a bigfat, bright red “A ”on the top of my paper. Naturally , I was delighted, but I didn ’t know I was attractingattention until the teacher spoke sharply,“Helen, what are you doing?”Called suddenly outof my happy thoughts, I said “Oh, I ’ve got the grinnies! ”The teacher and my classmates burst into laughter, and then I understood that grinnieswere used inside my family. Other people were not so lucky. And it is really lucky to have the grinnies, an uncontrollable, natural stateof great pleasure. Grinnies are shown on the outside by sparkling eyes and a wide, wide smile— not just any smile, but one that shows theteethand stretchesthe mouthto its limits. A person experiencing the grinnies appears to be all mouth. On the inside grinnies are characterized by a feeling of joyful anxiety. Grinnies usuallylast just a few seconds, but they can come and go. Sometimes, when life seems just perfect, I have occasional attacks of the grinnies for a whole day.The term originated in my mother’s family. Her younger sister, Rose, who haddeep dimples ( 酒窝 ), often expressed her pleasure with such a grin that the dimplesappeared to become permanent. When Rose was about four, she started explaining herfunny look by saying, “I have the grinnies ”. The term caught on, and it has beenan important word in our family now for two generations. The occasion doesn’t matter. Anything can bring on the grinnies —just so long as one feels great delight. When my brother finally rode his bicycle —without training wheels — from our house to the corner and back, he came home with the grinnies. When I was little, my mother ’s announcement that we would have homemade ice creamfor dessert always gave me the grinnies. My father had the grinnies when I was chosen to make a speech at the end-of-school-year ceremony. Grinnies can be brought on bya good meal, a sense of pride, a new friend, a telephone call from someone special,an achievement. Or sometimes one gets the grinnies for no reason at all: just a sudden sense of happiness can bring on a case. Whatever brings them on, an attack of thegr innies is among life ’s greatest pleasures. In fact, now that I look back on the experience, I feel sorry for my seventh-grade teach er. I think it ’s a pity that she didn ’t know the word grinnies. It ’s sucha useful term for saying, “I’m really, really pleased! ”1. Process.参照答案 1.C 2.C 3.B 4.D 5.BC5 [2013 ·江苏卷 ] DMark Twain has been called the inventor of the American novel. And he surelydeserves additional praise:the man who popularized the clever literary attack onracism.I say clever because anti-slavery fiction had been the important part of theliterature in the years before the Civil War.H.B.Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin is onlythe most famous example. These early stories dealt directly with slavery. With minorexceptions, Twain planted his attacks on slavery and prejudice into tales that wereon the surface about something else entirely. He drew his readers into the argumentby drawing them into the story.Again and again,in the postwar years,Twain seemed forced to deal with the challenge of race.Consider the most controversial,at least today, of Twain's novels, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.Only a few books have been kicked off the shelves asoften as Huckleberry Finn,Twain's most widely read tale.Once upon a time, peoplehated the book because it struck them as rude. Twain himself wrote that those whobanned the book considered the novel“trash and suitable only for the slums(穷人窟 ) .” More recently the book has been attacked because of the character Jim,the escaped slave , and many occurences of the word nigger.(The term Nigger Jim , for which the novel is often severely criticized, never appears in it.)But the attacks were and are silly—and miss the point. The novel is strongly anti - slavery.Jim's search through the slave states for the family from whom he has been forcibly parted is heroic. As J.Chadwick has pointed out, the character of Jim wasa first in American fiction—a recognition that the slave had two personalities,“the voice of survival within a white slave culture and the voice of the individual:Jim, the father and the man.”There is much more.Twain's mystery novel Pudd'nhead Wilson stood as a challengeto the racial beliefs of even many of the liberals of his day.Written at a time whenthe accepted wisdom held Negroes to be inferior(低等的)to whites, especially in intelligence,Twain's tale centered in part around two babies switched at birth.Aslave gave birth to her master's baby and,for fear that the child should be soldSouth, switched him for the master's baby by his wife. The slave's light-skinned childwas taken to be white and grew up with both the attitudes and the education of theslave -holding class. The master's wife's baby was taken for black and grew up withthe attitudes and intonations of the slave. The point was difficult to miss : nurture(养育),not nature, was the key to social status. The features of the black man that provided the stuff of prejudice—manner of speech , for example — were, to Twain, indicative of nothing other than the conditioning that slavery forced on its victims.Twain's racial tone was not perfect. One is left uneasy ,for example ,by the lengthy passage in his autobiography(自传)about how much he loved what were called“nigger shows” in his youth — mostly with white men performing in black - face — and his delightin getting his mother to laugh at them.Yet there is no reason to think Twain saw theshows as representing reality. His frequent attacks on slavery and prejudice suggesthis keen awareness that they did not.Was Twain a racist?Asking the question in the 21st century is as wise as askingthe same of Lincoln. If we read the words and attitudes of the past through the“wisdom” of the considered moral judgments of the present,we will find nothingbut error.Lincoln, who believed the black man the inferior of the white, fought andwon a war to free him.And Twain, raised in a slave state, briefly a soldier, and inventorof Jim , may have done more to anger the nation over racial injustice and awaken itscollective conscience than any other novelist in the past century.65. How do Twain's novels on slavery differ from Stowe's?A.Twain was more willing to deal with racism.B.Twain's attack on racism was much less open.C.Twain's themes seemed to agree with plots.D.Twain was openly concerned with racism.66. Recent criticism of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn arose partly from its________.A.target readers at the bottomB.anti - slavery attitudeC.rather impolite languageD.frequent use of“ nigger”67. What best proves Twain's anti-slavery stand according to the author?A.Jim's search for his family was described in detail.B.The slave's voice was first heard in American novels.C.Jim grew up into a man and a father in the white culture.D.Twain suspected that the slaves were less intelligent.68. The story of two babies switched mainly indicates that ________.A.slaves were forced to give up their babies to their mastersB.slaves' babies could pick up slave-holders' way of speakingC.blacks' social position was shaped by how they were brought upD.blacks were born with certain features of prejudice69. What does the underlined word“they” in Paragraph 7 refer to?A.The attacks.B.Slavery and prejudice.C.White men.D.The shows.70. What does the author mainly argue for?A.Twain had done more than his contemporary writers to attack racism.B.Twain was an admirable figure comparable to Abraham Lincoln.C.Twain's works had been banned on unreasonable grounds.D.Twain's works should be read from a historical point of view.【重点综述】本篇为说明文,谈到马克·吐温的小说能否对奴隶制和成见进行了抗争,以及它遇到不一样人士的责备状况。

Writing is one of humanity's later achievements, and until fairly recently even many literate (有文字的) societies recorded their concerns not only in writing but in things.Ideally a history would bring together texts and objects, and some chapters of this book are able to do just that, but in many cases we simply can't. The clearest example of this between literate and nonliterate history is perhaps the first conflict, at Botany Bay, between Captain Cook's voyage and the Australian Aboriginals. From the English side, we have scientific reports and the captain's record of that terrible day. From the Australian side, we have only a wooden shield (盾) dropped by a man in flight after his first experience of gunshot. If we want to reconstruct what was actually going on that day, the shield must be questioned and interpreted as deeply and strictly as the written reports. In addition to the problem of miscomprehension from both sides, there are victories accidentally or deliberately twisted, especially when only the victors know how to write. Those who are on the losing side often have only their things to tell their stories. The Caribbean Taino, the Australian Aboriginals, the African people of Benin and the Incas, all of whom appear in this book, can speak to us now of their past achievements most powerfully through the objects they made: a history told through things gives them back a voice. When we consider contact (联系) between literate and nonliterate societies such as these, all our firsthand accounts are necessarily twisted, only one half of a dialogue. If we are to find the other half of that conversation,__we have to read not just the texts, but the objects.1.What is the first paragraph mainly about?A.How past events should be presented.B.What humanity is concerned about.C.Whether facts speak louder than words.D.Why written language is reliable.2.What does the author indicate by mentioning Captain Cook in Paragraph 2?A.His report was scientific.B.He represented the local people.C.He ruled over Botany Bay.D.His record was onesided.3.What does the underlined word “conversation” in Paragraph 3 refer to?A.Problem. She had come with a demand that my team change our tested software to make one of our most important and indemand scientific instruments do something it had never been designed for, and risk breaking it down. All to carry out an experiment that was basically a waste of time and couldn't be done—to prove that a massive black hole hid at the center of our Milky Way.My initial “no way” gradually gave way in the face o f her cheerful but firm determination. It was my first encounter with a force of nature, Andrea Ghez, one of three winners of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2020. That determination and the willingness to take calculated risks has always characterized Andrea. For 25 years she has focused almost only on Sagittarius A—the name of our own local super massive black hole. And Andrea is one of the great pioneers in this search without question.Andrea did her work at the W.M. Keck Observatory's twin telescopes on Maunakea,Hawaii. She started using the very first instrument licensed on Keck Observatory's Near Infrared Camera (NIRC). NIRC was never designed to do what Andrea needed but she was not to be denied. And it worked! It was extremely hard and timeconsumin g to make sense of the data, but Andrea persisted. As Andrea would be the very first to acknowledge, this victory represents the combined efforts of so many. But actually one person had the idea for the research. One person had the chutzpah (无所顾忌) to propose it and one person had the determination and focus to make it happen, not discouraged by all who said it was a waste of time. That person is Andrea Ghez, winner of the 2020 Nobel Prize for Physics.5.What did the author think of Andrea Ghez's request at first?A.It's demanding. B.It's interesting.C.It's acceptable. D.It's meaningless.6.What do we learn about Andrea Ghez's research from Paragraph 2?A.It takes decades of efforts.B.It deals with power of nature.C.It's a purely individual project.D.It's about measurement of a hole.7.Which of the following best describes Andrea Ghez's work in Hawaii?A.Dangerous. B.Pleasant.C.Challenging. D.Fruitless.8.What do we learn from Andrea Ghez's success?A.It is rewarding to cooperate.B.The old methods still work today.C.It pays to put theory into practice.D.Persistence leads to success.

The weather is fine so a bout of (一次) fishing is in order, followed by lunch cooked on an open fire. Homework and classes? Indefinitely dismissed.“We are called a school but we look nothing like any school out there,” s ays JoeyMoncarz, cofounder and head teacher at Deep Green Bush School. “We don't do things like telling kids it is time to write or learn math. When they are interested in doing it, they do it.Moncarz is an exmainstream teacher. After five disappointing years in mainstreamschools in New Zealand he quit to found Deep Green Bush School, which has a roll of eight, and no classroom walls, time out chairs (罚坐椅) or tests.Concerned that mainstream schools were not preparing children for the global problemsof the future — such as climate change — Moncarz imagined a totally different kind ofeducation, rooted in the primal skills of hunting, gathering and survival. If the weather allows, pupils spend the majority of their day outdoors, exploring the New Zealand bush, learning tofish and hunt, trapping possums and learning about the plants and animals of their home. Themore traditional school skills, such as reading, writing and arithmetic, are acquired at theirown pace, after they begin showing an interest in them.“We don't have what you'd traditionally consider problem kids,” says Moncarz. “Ourparents saw their kids were unhappy and stressed in mainstream education and they startedquestioning: Is it normal or right for kids to come home stressed and unhappy? Having taughtin a mainstream school, I'd say most kids are stressed and unhappy.”Bush School is registered with the Ministry of Education as an independent school, andtherefore does not have to abide_by the standard New Zealand curriculum, although it issubject to ministerial regulation.Inspired by the Sudbury Valley School in the US, which in turn was inspired by A. S.Neill's Summerhill School in the UK, since launching in January Moncarz has been fieldingrequests from around New Zealand and abroad to open chapters of Bush School in places asfar a field as China and Europe.Moncarz insists that the school isn't an “experiment” in education, and is based on two million years of evidence of how parents have raised their kids, at one with nature.want to be one of a kind. Actually, sitting down and interacting with someone in person can seem like a rare luxury nowadays. But as technology develops, are we losing our ability to connect and empathize (移情) withothers?Empathy is the ability to feel another person’s emotions and understand his/her views. In the past few decades, r esearchers have emphasized our ability to literally read others. Thetheirway we usually try to detect other people’s emotions is through their facial expressionseyes in particular. We are told that “the eyes are the windows of the soul, and eye contact is certain critical in empathy. However, empathy relies on more than reading facial expressions. New researchsuggests our voice can greatly help us connect. A new study by Michael Kraus from YaleUniversity has found that our sense of hearing may be even stronger than our sight when itcomes to accurately detecting people’s emotions. In other words, you may be able to sense someone’s emotional state even better over the phone than in person. Kraus conducted threeexperiments to arrive at the conclusion. In all these experiments, the participants gave the best performance when they only heard peoples voices (compared to when they looked at facial expressions alone, or looked at facial expressions and heard voices). In several follow-up studies, Kraus directed his attention to why the voice is such a powerful mode of empathy. He asked the participants to discuss a difficult work situation over a video conferencing platform using either just the microphone or the microphone andthe video. Once again, the participants were more accurate at detecting people's emotions in voice-only calls. When we only listen to the voice, he found, we simply focus more on the nuances (细微差别) as the speakers express themselves. How can we get better at interpreting emotions in the voices of our coworkers and loved ones? There isn’t much research so far exploring this question specifically. 2014高考英语阅读理解抓分练习题(39)及答案(二)Schools are almost all connected to the Internet. But some have more technology, and use it more, than others. For example, some schools use computers for activities like video conferencing, to bring the world into the classroom. And some classrooms are equipped with things like a Smart Board, a kindof interactive whiteboard.
