Teaching program of the course
• 1st week: get familiar with this course, the purposes of this course and the definition, sample RP • 2nd week: components of a RP and general steps of RP writing, how to choose RP topic. Ex. (1-3 tentative topics) • 3rd week: methods of material collection and introduction section writing. • 4th week: Library sources searching(assignment: sorting and evaluating of collected materials, forming a further specified thesis and prepare presentation of main points of ideas and relevant materials) • 5th week: chap. 3 unfinished tasks in 3rd/4th week, how to write an outline. Develop the thesis into an outline. • 6th week: chap. 4-5 method and results section • 7th week: chap. 6 and how to draft and revise • 8th week: chap. 7 and how to write a research proposal

Different definitions of research paper
1) As an example of advanced writing, written academic discourse can be defined as the type of writing used in an academic environment for a number of special purposes including doing research, writing reports, preparing term papers, reviewing books and articles and completing theses and dissertations. Among the varieties of academic discourse, the research/article has gained the prestige as it best shows the verbal and intellectual qualities most sought after in an academic environment. 2) An academic research paper is a genre of writing that emphasizes the combination of personal insights and secondary material gathered through focused research and investigation of a particular topic. 3) a research paper "is the culmination and final product of an involved process of research, critical thinking, source evaluation, organization, and composition." 4) A research paper explores a given topic from a particular focus, using outside sources to support the paper's claims.

1) Collaborative learning - work in groups discussing the questions given by the teacher, preparing PPT and giving presentation in class. 5) As defined by the Modern Language Association Handbook (2009), the research paper "should be characterized by lucid, coherent exposition. No set of conventions for preparing a manuscript can replace lively and intelligent writing. Unlike some other forms of writing, however, the research paper requires writers to seek out and investigate sources of information other than their own personal knowledge and experience. Research into a topic will yield new information, sharpen perception of a problem, and lend authority to hypotheses. The research paper, the final product of research, is not a collection of other persons' opinions but a carefully constructed presentation of an idea -- or series of ideas -- that relies on other sources for clarification and verification. Learned facts and borrowed opinions must be fully documented in the research paper, usually through notes, but always in such a manner that they support rather than overshadow the paper itself"
