19年12月大学英语四级作文题目全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Save Our Earth!Hello everyone! I am Tommy, a 10-year-old student. Today, I want to talk to you about something very important – protecting our environment. Our Earth is a beautiful place, full of amazing plants, animals, and people. But lately, I have noticed that our Earth is in trouble. Pollution is everywhere, and it's making our planet sick. We must do something to save our Earth!First of all, let's talk about air pollution. Have you ever seen those big, black clouds of smoke coming out of factories and cars? They are causing a lot of harm to our environment. The air we breathe is getting dirty, and it's making us sick. We can help by using public transportation, walking, or biking instead of always using cars. We should also plant more trees as they help clean the air.Next, let's talk about water pollution. Our rivers and oceans are getting polluted with trash and chemicals. This is hurting the fish and other creatures that live in the water. We can make a difference by not throwing trash into rivers or lakes. We should also use less water when we brush our teeth or take a shower. Every drop counts!Another important issue is deforestation. Many trees are being cut down to make space for buildings and farms. Trees are like the lungs of our Earth – they produce oxygen for us to breathe. Without them, we will have less clean air. We should plant more trees and be careful to use paper wisely. Recycling paper can also help save trees.Lastly, let's talk about wildlife conservation. Many animals are losing their homes because of deforestation and pollution. We need to protect these animals and their habitats. We can do this by not buying products made from endangered animals and by supporting organizations that work to protect wildlife. In conclusion, we must take action to protect our environment. As young students, we can make a difference by doing simple things like using less water, recycling, and planting trees. Let's work together to save our Earth and make it a betterplace for future generations. Remember, every small action counts!篇2My Most Cherished GiftHi there! My name is Emma and I'm 10 years old. I go to Green Meadows Elementary School and I'm in the 5th grade. Today, my teacher Mrs. Roberts asked us to write about the best gift we ever received. At first, I wasn't sure what to write about because I've gotten lots of really cool gifts over the years. But then I remembered the gift that means the most to me – my teddy bear, Mr. Snuggles.I got Mr. Snuggles when I was just a tiny baby. My mom told me that she bought him for me at the hospital gift shop right after I was born. He was the first toy I ever had and we've been best friends ever since. Mr. Snuggles has been with me through everything – when I was a baby learning to walk, when I started preschool, when I lost my first tooth, and so many other big moments in my life.Mr. Snuggles is a classic brown teddy bear with a cute little black nose and big round eyes. His fur is really soft and he's just the perfect size for hugging. Even though he's gotten a littleworn out over the years, with some loose threads and a few small stains, he's still in pretty good shape for being almost 11 years old!I remember carrying Mr. Snuggles everywhere with me when I was little. He went to daycare, to the park, to the grocery store –wherever I went, he came too. I just felt safer and happier having him by my side. Whenever I was scared or upset, all I had to do was give Mr. Snuggles a big squeeze and suddenly everything seemed a little bit better. Some of my favorite memories with Mr. Snuggles are from when I was really little and my mom would read bedtime stories to me. I would clutch him tightly and bury my face in his soft fur as she read classic tales like Goodnight Moon and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The stories always sent me off to sleep feeling calm and loved. As I got a bit older, Mr. Snuggles took on a slightly different role. Instead of just being a cuddly companion, he also became a best friend that I could talk to about anything. Whenever I was worried about a test at school or had an argument with a friend, I would confide in Mr. Snuggles. He was always such a good listener! And even though he couldn't talk back, just hugging him made me feel so much better. These days, I don't carry Mr. Snuggles around with me everywhere anymore. But he still has a very special place on my bed, guarding my other stuffed animals. I like to make sure he's propped up nicely against my pillow so he has a good view of my room. Plus, it's always nice to have him there when I go to bed at night.Whenever I'm feeling sad or anxious, I still find myself reaching for Mr. Snuggles and giving him a squeeze, just like I did when I was a little kid. There's just something so comforting about his soft, familiar fur and his friendly face. No matter how old I get, I know Mr. Snuggles will always be there for me. He's a forever friend. While some of my other toys have been outgrown or lost interest over the years, Mr. Snuggles will always hold a special place in my heart. He's a connection to my earliest memories and my childhood. More than that, he's been a constant source of comfort, security, and unconditional love.So that's why Mr. Snuggles is the best gift I've ever received. Sure, I've gotten lots of fun toys and games and gadgets too. But none of those things could ever match the priceless companionship that my sweet teddy bear has provided me for over a decade now. He's more than just a stuffed animal – he's acherished friend. And I know I'll keep him by my side for many, many more years to come.篇3My Favorite Thing - Recess!Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm 8 years old. I'm in 3rd grade and I go to Oakwood Elementary School. Today I want to tell you all about my very favorite thing in the whole wide world - recess time at school!Recess is the best part of any school day, hands down. It's that wonderful 20-30 minute break we get in the middle of the morning and afternoon where we get to go outside and run around and play games and just have tons of fun! No sitting at desks, no schoolwork, no teachers going on and on. Just pure playtime awesomeness!I love everything about recess time. Getting lined up and heading out to the playground area is always exciting. You can feel the energy building as everyone gets all hyped up, talking about what games they want to play or chatting about other kid stuff. The moment we're finally let out onto the playground, it's like being released from captivity! Everybody spreads out running in different directions, shouting and laughing andrushing over to the playground equipment, sports areas, or open fields. There's so much to do out there during recess. The playground has all the classics - slides, swing sets, monkey bars, that cool curved ladder thing, and more. Climbing up those towering structures and zipping down the big twisty slides never gets old. You can spend pretty much the whole recess just messing around on that equipment if you want. Then there are the sports areas with basketball courts, tetherball poles, hopscotch grids, and four square. I'm a big fan of basketball and tetherball. Dribbling around and taking shots at the net is fun, or whacking that tetherball back and forth never gets boring. A bunch of my friends love playing marathon games of four square too which looks super intense.Or you can just run around on the open grassy fields. Playing tag, hiding and chasing each other, having crazy running races, or seeing who can do cool flips and tumbles. Sometimes clouds of kids will congregate for a big messy game of soccer or kickball. Once I even saw some crazy kids trying to do cartwheels and backflips off this little hill! The best though is when you get to hang with your very best buds and just run around wildly making up imaginary games andscenarios. Like we'll pretend we're brave knights battling evil dragons and sorcerers. Or maybe we're a crew of space explorers discovering exotic alien planets. Or we're champion athletes competing for the big prize. We come up with the craziest, most ridiculous ideas and then just go for it 100%, cracking up laughing and having an absolute blast the whole time.Recess is also amazing because it's really the only time during a school day when you get to truly act like a kid. The rest of the time you have to remain seated, be quiet, follow instructions, and do all your schoolwork like reading, writing, math, or whatever else. Recess is your break from all that. You can just be free, get your sillies out, and expend all that pent-up energetic craziness that builds up from sitting in class.Another awesome thing about recess is how it feels like this little break seems to last forever when you're actually in the moment, but then is also over in a blink of an eye. Those 20-30 minutes just seem to stretch out endlessly when you're totally absorbed in running around playing. You lose track of time getting lost in your games and laughter. But then before you know it, there's the shrill ringing of the bell signaling recess is done. And you're like "WHAT?? Already?! NO FAIR!" It's enough to make you want to cry. Why can't recess just be all day?!I honestly don't know how kids are supposed to make it through a full school day without recess breaks. It's absolute torture having to go several hours at a time sitting through classes without any chances to burn off energy and craziness. Whenever I'm stuck in a really long period like that, I start feeling physically itchy and fidgety, unable to concentrate at all. My mind just wanders, daydreaming about being back outside at recess instead of stuck inside. I get antsy and annoying, tapping my foot or playing with objects on my desk. And eventually I'll probably end up getting in trouble for spacing out or distracting others because I'm so desperate for a break. Recess is like a lifeline! So yeah, I cannot overstate how completely awesome and important recess time is. It's the highlight of any school day, for sure. I pretty much live for those 20-30 minute breaks to go outside, run around like a crazy kid, play some awesome games, and let loose with my friends. Recess is when I can be totally myself - energetic, loud, goofy, and carefree. No constraints, no rules, no stress. Just pure fun.Honestly, they should just get rid of most of the boring classroom time and make entire days be recess periods instead! Wouldn't that be the dream? We could come to school and justplay all day every day. Running, jumping, using our imaginations, and working off all our energy the way kids are meant to. Maybe with some very short 15-20 minute breaks for eating snacks and drinking juice boxes. But other than that, just RECESS 24/7! A kid can dream, right?Well, I could definitely ramble on forever about how insanely great recess is. But I've got a bell ringing for me any minute now to go line up for my next class period. And I need to wrap this up before I get too worked up and just make a break for the doors heading outside instead. Thanks for reading, and I hope you understand now why recess is hands down, no contest, THE BEST part of every elementary school day! What's your favorite thing about being a kid? Let me know!篇4My Best Friend SpotI have a best friend and his name is Spot. Spot is a dog. He isa black and white spotted puppy. Spot is the bestest friend I ever had!I got Spot for my 8th birthday last year. My mom and dad knew how much I wanted a puppy so they got me Spot as a present. When I opened the box and saw the cute little puppy myheart filled up with so much joy! I named him Spot because he has lots of black spots all over his white fur.Spot is so much fun to play with. Every day when I get home from school he runs up to greet me, wagging his tail and acting all excited to see me. It makes me feel really happy and important. Then we go outside in the backyard and I throw a ball or a stick and Spot chases after it. He runs so fast on his little legs! Sometimes he brings the stick or ball back to me and sometimes he runs around holding it in his mouth, teasing me. But he always lets me have it back eventually.Spot loves treats and I give him some whenever he is a good boy and listens to what I tell him. His favorite treats are the bacon-flavored ones. When I say "Spot, want a treat?" he gets really hyper and starts jumping up and down. It's hilarious! Then when I give him the treat he gobbles it up super fast and looks at me hoping for another one. I try not to give him too many though because my mom says it will make him fat.At night, Spot sleeps in a doggy bed right next to my bed. Sometimes in the middle of the night he wakes me up because he is dreaming about chasing squirrels or rabbits and he starts kicking his legs and making little barking noises. It's funny butalso keeps me awake! In the morning he always licks my face to wake me up, which is kind of gross but I don't really mind.Spot is really good at doing tricks too. I taught him to sit, stay, roll over, shake hands, and play dead. When I tell him to do a trick he gets all excited because he knows he'll get a treat after. Roll over is his favorite trick because he looks so silly when he's rolling around on the floor. I'm trying to teach him more tricks but it's hard because he gets distracted really easily by things like birds or squirrels outside. The only bad thing about Spot is that he chews on everything! He's already ruined three pairs of my shoes by chewing on them. I have to keep everything off the floor or else he'll chew it up. My mom got really mad one time because he chewed up one of her nice slippers. We have to give him special chew toys and bones to chew on instead. Even then, sometimes he still chews on the furniture or something else he's not supposed to. I feel bad when he does that because I know I'm supposed to be watching him.Last summer, Spot got to go swimming for the first time. We took him to a lake and he was really scared of the water at first. I had to pull him in and he instantly started doggy paddling. It was so cute and funny to watch! After that he started loving the waterand didn't want to get out. We also take Spot on walks around the neighborhood and to the dog park to run around off-leash and play with other dogs. He gets along great with other dogs.On Spot's 1st birthday, I set up a little party for him in the backyard and made him a puppy cake made out of dog treats. I even put a candle in it and sang "Happy Birthday" to him! He thought the candle was a treat at first and tried to eat it before I stopped him. Then he devoured the whole cake so fast - he really liked it! My friends came over too and we all played fetch with Spot. It was the best doggy birthday party ever.I'm so lucky to have a best friend like Spot. He is so much fun and brightens up every single day for me. I laugh so much just watching his silly puppy behavior. He's also really cuddly and always wants to snuggle up next to me and lick my face, even though it's kind of gross. I'm glad he loves me just as much as I love him. I hope I get to have Spot as my best friend for a really, really long time!篇5My Favorite AnimalHi everyone! Today, I want to tell you all about my favorite animal. Can you guess what it is? It's a panda! Pandas are so cute and cuddly, and I just love everything about them.Pandas are big and fluffy. They have black and white fur, which makes them look like they're wearing a tuxedo. Isn't that cool? They also have round faces with big, black eyes. When I see a panda, I can't help but smile.Do you know where pandas live? They are from China, and they like to live in the mountains. Pandas eat bamboo, which is a kind of plant. They have a special thumb that helps them hold onto the bamboo while they eat. Isn't that amazing? I wish I had a thumb like that!Pandas are very friendly animals. They like to play and roll around. Sometimes, they even do somersaults! I think it would be so much fun to play with a panda. They also like to take naps, just like me. I love taking naps, especially on a cozy Sunday afternoon. But did you know that pandas are endangered? That means there are not many of them left in the world. I think that's really sad. We need to protect pandas and their homes, so they can keep being happy and playful. I want future generations to be able to see these amazing creatures, just like I do.In conclusion, pandas are my favorite animal because they are cute, friendly, and they love to play. I hope that more people will learn about pandas and help protect them. They are a special part of our world, and we should do everything we can to keep them safe.Thank you for listening to my story about pandas. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Remember, pandas are awesome!篇6My Favorite PetHi there! My name is Lily and I'm 9 years old. I'm in the 4th grade at Oakwood Elementary School. Today I want to tell you all about my bestest friend in the whole wide world – my dog Rufus!Rufus is a golden retriever and he's the most adorable, cuddliest, fluffiest pup you'll ever see. We got him from a nice family a few towns over when he was just a tiny little puppy, no bigger than a teddy bear. The minute I saw those big brown eyes and that wagging tail, I knew he was the one for me. I begged my parents for weeks to get him and finally, on my 7th birthday, they surprised me with the greatest present ever! From that day on, Rufus has been my constant companion. In the mornings, he wakes me up by hopping onto my bed and licking my face until I can't stop giggling. Then he follows me around the house as I get ready for school, waiting patiently by the door for me to put on his leash so we can go on a nice long walk together before I hop on the bus. Rufus' favorite part is chasing after squirrels and bunnies in the park across the street –he never quite catches them, but he sure does try his hardest! After school, Rufus is always waiting right by the front door, his tail windshield-wipering back and forth in excitement to see me again. We play endless games of fetch and tug-of-war in the backyard until I'm totally tuckered out. When it's time for dinner, Rufus gets his favorite beef and veggie kibble while I eat with my family. Then we'll cuddle up on the couch together and watch a movie or read books before bedtime.I just love Rufus so much. He's more than just a pet to me –he's my best friend who I tell all my secrets and problems to. Whenever I'm feeling sad or upset about something, all I need to do is look into those sweet loving eyes and get a big doggy kiss, and suddenly everything feels okay again. Rufus never judges me and is always so happy to just be by my side. I don't know what I'd do without him!Rufus has taught me so many important lessons about responsibility, compassion, and unconditional love. Having to feed him, take him on walks, play with him, and clean up after him has really helped me mature and understand what it means to fully care for another living being. And watching how patient, gentle, and affectionate Rufus is, even when I accidentally step on his paws or pull his ears during cuddle sessions, has shown me the true meaning of forgiveness.I'll never forget the time when I was 6 and got really sick with a bad flu over winter break. I was stuck in bed for over a week, feeling just miserable. But Rufus refused to leave my side the entire time. He'd just curl up right next to me, letting me hug him close whenever I had a coughing fit or nightmare. My mom says having his warmth and companionship then is what helped me get through it. To this day, I thank my lucky stars that I have a best friend as loyal and loving as Rufus. As I've grown up over the years, Rufus has grown up right alongside me. We've shared so many adventures and made countless amazing memories together. I know dogs don't live nearly as long as humans, so I'm trying to treasure each and every moment with my furry buddy while I still can. No matter if I have a scary dream, get bullied at school, or just need a hug,Rufus always knows just what to do to make me feel safe, loved, and happy once more.I hope that one day, when I'm all grown up, I can get married and have kids of my own. And you'd better believe I'll be getting them the most perfect pup, too – one just like my dear, sweet Rufus. That way, they can experience the unbreakable bond between a child and their dog, the way I have. Because a kid's best friend really isn't a human at all – it's the four-legged,tail-wagging pooch who will always be by your side through thick and thin, kissing away the tears and bringing you more joy than you ever thought possible. So thanks, Rufus, for being you. You're the best dog a kid could ever ask for. I love you to the moon and back, a million times over!。

One vision of the perfect city of the future: a place that offers easy access to air travel. In 2011, a University of North Carolina business professor named John Kasarda published a book called Aerotropolis: The Way We’ll Live Next. Kasarda says future cities should be built intentionally around or near airports. The idea, as he has put it, is to offer businesses “rapid, long-distance connectivity on a massive scale.”B)“The 18th century really was a waterborne (水运的)century, the 19th century a rail century. the 20th century a highway, car, truck century一and the 21st century will increasingly be an aviation century, as the globe becomes increasingly connected by air,” Kasarda says. Songdo, a city built from scratch in South Korea, is one of Kasarda’s prime examples. It has existed for just a few years.“ From the get-go, it was designed on the basis of connectivity and competitiveness,”says Kasada. “The government built the bridge directly from the airport to the Songdo International Business District. And the surface infrastructure was built in tandem with the new airport.”C)Songdo is a ston e’s throw from South Korea’s Incheon Airport, its main international hub (枢纽). But it takes a lot more than a nearby airport to be a city of the future. Just building a place as an “international business district” doesn’t mean it will become one. Park Yeo n Soo conceived (构想)this city of the future back in 1986. He considers Songdo his baby. “I am a visionary,” he says. Thirty years after he imagined the city, Park’s baby is close to 70 percent built, with 36.000 people living in the business district and 90,000 residents in greater Songdo. It’s about an hour outside Seoul, built on reclaimed tidal flats along the Yellow Sea, There’s a Coast Guard building and a tall trade tower, as well as a park, golf course and university.D)Chances are you’ve actually seen this place. Songdo appears in the most famous music video ever to come ou of South Korea. “Gangnam Style” refers to the fashionable Gangnam district in Seoul. But some of the video was filmed in Songdo.“I don’t know if you remember, there was a scene in a subwaystation. That was not Gangnam. That was actually Songdo,” says Jung Won Son, a professor of urban development at London’s Bartlett School of Planning, “Part of the reason to shoot there is that it’s new and nice.”E)The city was supposed to be a hub for global companies, with employees from all over the world. But hat’s not how it has turned out. Songdo’s reputation is as a futuristic ghost town. But the reality is more complicated. A bridge with big, light-blue loops leads into the business district. In the center of the main road, there’s a long line of flags of the world. On the corner, there’s a Starbucks and a 7-Eleven--all of the international brands that you see all over the world nowadays.F)The city is not empty. There are mothers pushing strollers, old women with walkers -- even in the middle of the day. when it’s 90 degrees out. Byun Young-Jin chairs the Songdo real estate association and started selling property here when the first phase of the city opened in 2005. He says demand has boomed in the past couple of years. Most of his clients are Korean. In fact, the developer says, 99 percent of the homes here are sold to Koreans. Young families move here because the schools are great. And that’s the problem: Songdo has become a popular Korean city 一more popular as a residential area than a business one. It’s not yet the futuristic international business hub that planners imagined. “It’s a great place to live. And it’s becoming a great place to work,” says Scott Summers, the vice presiden t of Gale International, the developer of the city. The floor-to-ceiling windows of his company’s officesoverlook Songdo Central Park, with a canal full of kayaks and paddle boats. Shimmering (闪烁的)glass towers line the canal’s edge.G)“What’s happened i s, because we focused on creating that quality of life first, which enabled the residents to live here, what has probably missed the mark is for companies to locate here,” he says. “There needs to be strong economic incentives.” The city is still unfinishe d, and it feels a bit like a theme park. It doesn’t feel all that futuristic. There’s a high-tech underground trash disposal system. Buildings are environmentally friendly. Everybody’s television set is connected to a system that streams personalized language or exercise classes.H)But Star Trek this is not. And to some of the residents, Songdo feels hollow. “I’m, like, in prison for weekdays. That’s what we call it in the workplace,” says a woman in her 20s. She doesn’t want to use her name for fear of be ing fired from her job. She goes back to Seoul every weekend. “I say I’mprison-breaking on Friday nights.” But she has to make the prison break in her own car. There’s no high-speed train connecting Songdo to Seoul, just over 20 miles away.I)The man who first imagined Songdo feels frustrated. too. Park says he built South Korea a luxury vehicle, “like Mercedes or BMW. It’s a good car now. But we’re waiting for a good driver to accelerate.” But there are lots of other good cars out there, too. The world is dotted with futuristic, high-tech cities trying to attract the biggest international companiesJ)Songdo’s backers contend that it’s still early, and business space is filling up—about 70 percent of finished offices are now occupied. Brent Ryan, who teaches urban design at MIT, says Songdo proves a universal principle. “There have been a lot of utopian (乌托邦的)cities in history. And the reason we don’t know about a lot of them is that a lot of them have vanished entirely.” In other words, when it comes to cities—or anything else—it is hard to predict the future.36. Songdo’s popularity lies more in its quality of life than its business attraction.37. The man who conceives Songdo feels disappointed because it has fallen short of his expectations.38. A scene in a popular South Korean music video was shot in Songdo.39. Songdo still lacks the financial stimulus for businesses to set up shop there.40. Airplanes will increasingly become the chief means of transportation, according to a professor.41. Songdo has ended up different from the city it was supposed to be.42. Some of the people who work in Songdo complain about boredom in the workplace.43. A business professor says that a future city should have easy access to international transportation.44. Acording to an urban design professor, it is difficult for city designers to foresee what happen in the future.45. Park Yeon So. Who envisioned Songdo, feels a parental connection with the city.【参考答案】36-40 FIDGB41-45 EHAJCSection CPassage OneQuestions 46 to 50 are based on the following passage. The fifth largest city in the US passed a significant soda tax proposal that will levy (征税)1.5cents per liquid ounce on distributors.Philadelphia’s new measure was approved by a 13 to 4 city council v ote. It sets a new bar for similar initiatives across the county. It is proof that taxes on sugary drinks can win substantial support outside super-liberal areas. Until now, the only city to successfully pass and implement a soda tax was Berkeley, California, in 2014.The tax will apply to regular and diet sodas, as well as other drinks with added sugar, such as Gatorade and iced teas. It’s expected to raise $410 million over the next five years, most of which will go toward funding a universalpre-kindergarten program for the city. While the city council vote was met with applause inside the council room, opponents to the measure, including soda lobbyists made sharp criticisms and a promise to challenge the tax in court.“The tax passed today unfairly singl es out beverages—including low- andno-calorie choices,” said Lauren Kane, spokeswoman for the American Beverage Association. “But most importantly, it is against the law. So we will side with the majority of the people of Philadelphia who oppose this tax and take legal action to stop it.”An industry backed anti-tax campaign has spent at least $4 million on advertisements. The ads criticized the measure. characterizing it as a“grocery tax.”Public health groups applauded the approved tax as a step toward fixing certain lasting health issues that plague Americans. “The move to recapture a small part of the profits from an industry that pushes a product that contributes to diabetes, obesity and heart disease in poorer communities in order to reinvest in those communities will sure be inspirational to many other places,” said Jim Krieger, executive director of Healthy Food America. “Indeed, we are already hearing from some of them. It’s not just Berkeley’ anymore.”Similar measures in California’s Albany, Oakla nd, San Francisco and Colorado’s Boulder are becoming hot-button issues Health advocacy groups have hinted that even more might be coming.46. What does the passage say about the newly-approved soda tax in Philadelphia?A)It will change the lifestyle of many consumers.B)It may encourage other US cities to follow suit.C)It will cut soda consumption among low-income communities.D)It may influence the marketing strategies of the soda business.47. What will the opponents probably do to respond to the soda tax proposal? A)Bargain with the city council.B)Refuse to pay additional tax.C)Take legal action against it.D)Try to win public support.48. What did the industry-backed anti-tax campaign do about the soda tax proposal?A)It tried to arouse hostile feelings among consumers.B)It tried to win grocers’ support against the measure.C)It kept sending letters of protest to the media.D)It criticized the measure through advertising.49. What did public health groups think the soda tax would do?A)Alert people to the risk of sugar-induced diseases.B)Help people to fix certain long-time health issues.C)Add to the fund for their research on diseases.D)Benefit low-income people across the country.50. What do we learn about similar measures concerning the soda tax in some other cities?A)They are becoming rather sensitive issues.B)They are spreading panic in the soda industry.C)They are reducing the incidence of sugar-induced diseases.D)They are taking away lot of profit from the soda industry.Passage TwoQuestions 51 to 55 are based on the following passage.Popping food into the microwave for a couple of minutes may seem utterly harmless, but Europe’s stock of these quick-cooking ovens emit as much carbon as nearly 7 million cars, a new study has found. And the problem is growing. With costs falling and kitchen appliances becoming “status” items, owners are throwing away microwaves after an average of eight years. This is pushing sales of new microwaves which are expected to reach 135 million annually in the EU by the end of the decade.A study by the University of Manchester calculated the emissions of CO2—the main greenhouse gas responsible for climate change—at every stage of microwaves, from manufacture to waste disposal. “It is ele ctricity consumption by microwaves that has the biggest impact on the environment,” say the authors. The authors also calculate that the emissions from using 19 microwaves over a year are the same as those from using a car. According to the same study, efforts to reduce consumption should focus on improving consumer awareness and behaviour. For example, consumers could use appliances in a more efficient way by adjusting the time of cooking to the type of food. However, David Reay, professor of carbon management, argues that, although microwaves use a great deal of energy, their emissions are minor compared to those from cars. In the UK alone, there are around 30 million cars. These cars emit more than all the microwaves in the EU. Backing this up, recent data show that passenger cars in the UK emitted 69 million tons of CO2 in 2015. This is 10 times the amount this new microwave oven study estimatesfor annual emissions for all the microwave ovens in the EU. Further, the energy used by microwaves is lower than any other from of cooking. Among common kitchen appliances used for cooking, microwaves are the most energy efficient, followed by a stove and finally a standard oven. Thus, rising microwave sales could be seen as a positive thing.51. What is the finding of the new study?A)Quick-cooking microwave ovens have become more popular.B)The frequent use of microwaves may do harm to our health.C)CO2 emissions constitute a major threat to the environment.D)The use of microwaves emits more CO2 than people think.52. Why are the sales of microwaves expected to rise?A)They are becoming more affordable.B)They have a shorter life cycle than other appliances.C)They are getting much easier to operate.D)They take less time to cook than other appliances.53. What recommendation does the study by the University of Manchester make?A)Cooking food of different varieties.B)Improving microwave users’ habits.C)Eating less to cut energy consumption.D)Using microwave ovens less frequently.54. What does Professor David Reay try to argue?A)There are far more emissions from cars than from microwaves.B)People should be persuaded into using passenger cars less often.C)The UK produces less CO2 than many other countries in the EU.D)More data are needed to show whether microwaves are harmful.55. What does Professor David Reay think of the use of microwaves?A)It will become less popular in the coming decades.B)It makes everyday cooking much more convenient.C)It plays a positive role in environmental protection.D)It consumes more power than conventional cooking.Part Ⅳ Translation中国家庭十分重视孩子的教育。

四级19年12月份作文

四级19年12月份作文英文回答:In my opinion, learning a second language is extremely beneficial for several reasons. Firstly, it broadens our horizons and allows us to communicate with people from different cultures and backgrounds. For example, I have a friend who speaks fluent Spanish, and she was able totravel to Spain and easily interact with the locals. This not only enhanced her travel experience but also helped her to make new friends and connections. Additionally, learning a second language can also improve our cognitive skills. Studies have shown that bilingual individuals have better problem-solving abilities and are more creative in their thinking. This is because learning a new language requires us to think in different ways and adapt to different grammatical structures. Furthermore, being bilingual can also provide us with better job opportunities. Many companies today value employees who can speak multiple languages, as it allows them to communicate with a widerrange of clients and customers. For instance, a friend of mine was able to secure a job in an international company because she was fluent in both English and Mandarin. Overall, learning a second language can open doors to new experiences, enhance our cognitive abilities, and improve our career prospects.中文回答:在我看来,学习第二语言有很多好处。

This not only enhanced my travel experience but also deepened my understanding of their way of life.Secondly, learning a foreign language can improve our cognitive abilities. Research has shown that bilingual individuals have better problem-solving skills and are more adept at multitasking. For instance, a study conducted by the University of Edinburgh found that bilingual children perform better in tasks that require mental flexibility compared to monolingual children. This suggests that learning a foreign language can enhance our cognitiveflexibility and improve our overall cognitive function.Furthermore, learning a foreign language can also boost our career prospects. In today's globalized world, companies are increasingly looking for employees who are proficient in multiple languages. Being able to communicate in a foreign language can give us a competitive edge and open up more job opportunities. For example, a friend of mine who is fluent in Mandarin Chinese was able to secure a job in an international business company that has strong ties with China. His language skills not only impressed the employers but also allowed him to build strongrelationships with Chinese clients.Overall, learning a foreign language has numerous advantages, including cultural enrichment, cognitive benefits, and improved career prospects. It is a valuable skill that can enhance our personal and professional lives.中文回答:在我看来,学习一门外语无疑是有益的,原因有几个。

2. 出现这种现象的原因是……
3. 为改变这种状况,我认为……
【参考范文】
Due Attention Should Be Given to Speaking
Nowadays fewer and fewer students pay attention to their spoken English, which results in a dramatic increase in the number of students who can spell English words but are incapable of speaking them fluently or correctly. This phenomenon has aroused man y people’s attention.
Why does such a phenomenon emerge? As far as I’m concerned, there are possibly two reasons contributing to
this phenomenon. On the one hand, exam-oriented education makes many schools lay emphasis on passing the English exams, which leads to the lack of speaking environment for students to practice their spoken English. On the other hand, students themselves don’t realize the importance of the ability to speak English which has a great influence on their future
study and career development.
To change this situation, I think, we can take the following measures. First, the importance of oral English should be emphasized to raise students’ awareness of the
necessity of speaking English. Second, exams should be modified to make students pay attention to their spoken English. Third, schools can organize various activities to arouse students’ interest in speaking English.
