英语四级话题作文范文
Traffic Problems
Problems Brought About by Automobiles
Although the automobiles has brought convenience to us, many people began to realize that it is the source of trouble as well. Because of
too many automobiles,
traffic accidents happen again and again all over the world. Worst
of all, waste of
gases sent out by the automobiles give rise to air pollution and do great harm to
people.
In order to solve the problem of air pollution, some automobile manufacturers are trying to build cars that do not pollute and some inventors are working on cars
powered by steam or electricity.
The governments in some countries, for example, in the United States, are trying to reduce the number of privately-owned cars and ask their people to use public buses.
But this causes other problems, too. It is, therefore, very
difficult to make these
changes for the present.
Environmental Protection
Noise
Noise is becoming a great problem. Today, as the population grows, we experience an increasing use of all kinds of machines, especially motor cars.
Consequently, noise is getting so serious that people all over the world are paying
greater attention to it and seeking ways to handle the problem.
Noise brings great harm to our health. Many scientists have pointed out that long expose to noise of high intensity will lead to the loss of hearing and possibly
drive people ―mad‖. What is more, it can hasten the death of those people who suffer
from heart trouble.
Measures have been taken to control noise. Today every country has done something about noise control. Industrial noise may be controlled by good planning
and technical improvement. Traffic noise can be controlled by quieting engines more
efficiently. The most important thing is to reduce noise sources. No doubt the problem
will be solved someday.
Air Pollution
Air pollution is one of the major problems of the modern world. A great deal of energy is needed to run the factories of modern industrial nations. Automobiles, trains,
plans, and buses need energy, too. Nearly all of this energy is produced by burning
fuels. The burning produces wastes, some of which remain in the air, causing air
pollution.
Scientists are finding ways to stop air pollution, especially in big industrial areas and densely-populated cities. They are studying new ways of generating
electricity that may be less damaging to the environment. In the meantime, many
power plants are being modernized to give off less polluting material. Also, engineers
try to design and locate new power plants to do minimum damage to the environment.
However, it may be that we still have a long way to go before we have a ―clean‖ world. Nearly all of the countries are trying hard to prevent and control air
pollution. Indeed, there seems to be no end of tasks that environmentalists will be
required do. People will continually find news ways to control air pollution.
