Forget about placing an order, paying the bill online and waiting for days for it to be delivered to you. In the near future, you'll be able to get it in minutes just by hitting “print” on your computer. You might find it hard to believe that you could actually “print” an object like you would a picture. But it is not that hard to understand how it would work. Just as a traditional printer sprays (喷) ink onto paper line by line, modern 3D printers spread material onto a surface layer by layer, from the bottom to the top, gradually building up a shape.Instead of ink, the materials the 3D printer uses are mainly plastic, resin(树脂) and certain metals. The thinner each layer is—from a millimetre to less than the width of a hair—the smoother and finer the object will be.This may sound like a completely new technology, but the truth is that 3D printing hasbeen around since the late 1980s. Back then, it was barely affordable for most people, so few knew about it.Last year, though, saw a big change in the 3D printing industry—printers became much cheaper. For example, 10 years ago a desktop 3D printer might have cost £20,000, while now they cost only about £1,000, according to the BBC.Taken out of the factory and introduced to more diverse and common uses, 3D printing can create just about anything you can think of—flutes (笛子), bikinis, jewelry, aircraft parts and even human organs. In fact, scientists from Cornell University in New York have just made an artificial ear using a 3D printer, according to Science Daily. The fake ear looks and acts exactly like a natural one. However, as 3D printing becomes more common, it may bring about certain problems—such as piracy. “Once you can download a coffee maker, or print out a new set of kitchen utensils (餐具) on your personal 3D printer, who will visit a retail (零售的) store again?” an expert in 3D printing told Forbes News. Even more frightening, what if anyone in the world could use a 3D printer to print out a fully functioning gun?12. According to the article, in the future, the 3D printing technology will _______.A. enable people to make better purchases onlineB. change the way we make many productsC. be applied as widely in our daily life as computersD. shorten the time it takes for people to get what they buy online13. What happened in the 3D printing industry last year?A. The 3D printing technology was taken out of the factory.B. The 3D printing technology began to be used in various fields.C. There stood a man in his seventies, wearing glasses and a nice smile. I thought, well, he’s an old guy!For the next few minutes I watched him. He greeted every customer before scanning the items. Sure, his words were the usual, “How’s it going?” But he did something different—he actually listened to people. Then he would respond to what they had said and engage them in brief conversation.I thought it was odd. I have grown accustomed to people asking me how I was doing simply out of robotic conve rsational habit. After a while, you don’t give any thought to the question and just say something back. I could say, “I just found out I have six months to live,” and someone would reply, “Have a great day!”But that wasn’t the end. He gave them the change, walked around the counter, and extended his right hand in an act of friendship. He looked the customers in the eyes. “I sure want to thank you for shopping here today,” he told them. “You have a great day. Bye-bye.”The looks on the faces of the customers were priceless. There were smiles and some sheepish grins (咧嘴一笑). All had been touched by his simple gesture—and in a place they never expected. They would gather their things and walk out, smiling.Of course, he did the same to me and I got to know his name, Marty.Who was that guy? Most customers enjoy being treated this way.CExercise and musicMany runners and gym members feel that music makes exercise more enjoyable. However, they might not know that scientists have found that some kinds of music can improve people’s energy by 15 percent. This was discovered by Costas Karageorghis at Brunel University’s School of Sport and Education in London. Karageorghis has worked with organisations like Nike and with many champion (冠军) athletes. In the study, 30 people listened to inspiring music by Queen, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Madonna. They did exercise at the same time.Nerve communication “stopped”When they were doing exercise in time with the music, people showed higher energy levels. Even when they were doing very hard exercise, they were positive about how they felt. When people are doing exercise, their nerves (神经) send messages saying that their body is getting tired. However, when they are listening to music at the same time, these messages are blocked. Karageorghis thinks this is because the music causes part of the brain to send different messages to the body thatmake it feel happy and relaxed.Different effectsKarageorghis’work shows that different types of music can have different effects on different people. The effect of some music can also depend on how tiring the exercise is. Karageorghis said that people who have extroverted (外向的) personalities prefer faster and louder kinds of music compared to people who have a reserved (沉默寡言的) personality. This is because, for the music to have an effect, the brains of extroverted people need more stimulation (刺激) than the brains of reserved people. Reserved people want to feel less worried and so have better results when the music makes them feel relaxed.Karageorghis was asked to provide music for the “Run to the Beat”half marathon (马拉松) in the UK, which has also now started in other countries. “I also have lots of other exciting projects that I am working on,”said Karageorghis. One of these is to find out if the speed of the music we listen to has an effect on our heart rate while we exercise.11.Where can we possibly find the article ?A. A novelB. A documentaryC. A biographyD. A magazine12. Why do people feel less tired when they exercise with music?A. Music makes people’s mu scles relax.B. Messages are stopped sending by the brain.C. Positive messages instead of ones about feeling tired are sent to the body.D. Their nerves prevent sending messages to the body in the process.13. According to the third paragraph, which statement is TRUE?A. Reserved people do not want to be stimulated.B. Relaxing music worked better with reserved people.C. Outgoing people feel less worried about their lives than reserved people.D. Louder, faster music had a better effect during exhausting exercise.14. What can be concluded from the research?A. Listening to inspiring music is the best way to stimulate people who are exercising.B. Different music styles and exercise types have different effects on people.C. The more inspiring music you listen to, the more energy you gain.D.The speed of music affects people’s heart rates while they build up their muscles.15. The main purpose of the article is ______.A.To compare which type of music is better for people when they exerciseB. To report on a study about how music can improve energy levelsC. To find out the different effects that different types of music have on peopleD.To describe how our brains function when we exercise while listening to musicDHave you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street? Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “species” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name —phubbers(低头族).Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes selfie in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events eventually leads to the destruction of the world.Although the ending sounds overstated, the damage phubbing can bring is real.Your health is the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors as saying. “the neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report. But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage you r social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported. It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.16.According to Para.1 and Para.2, ________.A. A careless cellphone user is always busy with his Wechat.B. Phubbers are a new kind of human being.C. More and more people are becoming phubbers..D.Phubbers will actually end our world.17. For what purpose does the author give the example of a cartoon in Para. 2?A. To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients.B. To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing.C. To indicate the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers.D. To advertise the cartoon made by students.18. Which of the following is NOT a risk a phubber may have?A. He will cause the destruction of the world.B. His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed.C. His social skills could be affected.D. He might get separated from his friends and family.19. Which of the following may be the author’s attitude towards phubbing?A. Supportive.B. Optimistic.C. Opposed.D. Objective.20. What may the passage talk about next?A. Advice on how to use a cell phone.B. People addicted to phubbing.C. Results of phubbing.D. Measures to reduce the risks of phubbing.第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分l0分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

The West HighlandsBThese days it seems people can‟t complete simple tasks, like having a meal, without getting their phone out to Instagram it.It is widely believed that our obsession with documenting everything photographically takes away from the enjoyment of the experience itself, but a new study says otherwise. Researchers have found people taking photos of events actually enjoy them more. The study was published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. The participants who took the photos reported being more engaged in the activity.…One critical factor that has been shown to affect enjoyment is the extent to which people are engaged with the experience.‟ the authors wrote. Photo taking helps this because it naturally draws people more into the experience, they said. The researchers asked over 2,000 people to take part in nine different experiments. In each experiment, people were asked to participate in an activity – which ranged from going on a bus tour to eating in a food court. They were asked to either take photos or not, and completed a survey to show how much fun they had during the task. In almost every case, those who took photographs reported higher levels of enjoyment. But the same effect happened in the other extreme, in that photo taking can make an unpleasant experience even worse, the study found. In one instance, participants went on a virtual safari and observed a group of lions attacking a water buffalo, which most people did not enjoy. In that case, the photo takers enjoyed it less than those who saw the same encounter but did not take photos.Taking photos did not appear to increase enjoyment when taking the photos negatively affected the experience itself, for example having to handle bulky camera equipment. The researchers also discovered that this action is not limited to the action of taking pictures. Participants in one experiment reported higher levels of enjoyment after just taking mental pictures as they were going through the experience. This shows it is the process of taking the photo itself that helps increase enjoyment. This means that cameras that record any moment of an experience without the individual‟s active decision of what to capture are unlikely to have the same effect, according to the researchers.14. What is widely believed about taking photos and posting them on Instagram?A. It means that we waste more time.B. It makes us enjoy experiences less.C. It helps us lead richer lives.D. It makes us less popular with our friends.15. During the survey, what did the researchers find?A. Taking photos always makes us enjoy things more.B. Those who didn‟t take photos were happier.C. Taking photos makes us experience things more deeply.D. Taking photos is usually an unpleasant experience.16. The underlined word …bulky‟ probably means __________.A. Large and heavyB. Cheap and convenientC. Cool and fashionableD. Modern and reliable17. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?A. How to enjoy taking photosB. The negative effects of InstagramC. How to win popularity on InstagramD. How taking photos affects our experiencesCAccording to Oxford university economists Dr Carl Frey and Dr Michael Osborne, 40% of all jobs are at risk of being lost to computers in the next two decades. Though much has been said about the jobs that will be lost, Frey points out that we don‟t know what type of new work automation will create. As more jobs become automated, we will see the disappearance of repetitive, low-skilled work, he says. “And we don‟t know specifically what new fields will create jobs in the next decade or two.” However, there are two types of role that we won‟t easily be able to automate, and jobs for the next generation will focus on these areas.SocialFirst, jobs that involve social interactions won‟t be easy for a machine to do. “If you think of all the social tasks – negotiating or taking care of others – it is almost unthinkable that a robot will acquire these skills at human levels of social intelligence,” says Frey. So careers such as teaching, social care and nursing are all likely to stay after the robot revolution. And although the diagnostic role of doctors can already be done by machines, the patient-interaction aspect of the job is hard to replace.CreativeThe second type of work that machines won‟t easily be able to replicate is creativity. “Computers are very good at solving problems once the problem has been specified, but they‟re not as good at coming up with new creative ideas,” says Frey.So artists, writers and musicians will all be safe – but this creativity is relevant to the science, technology, engineering and maths fields, too, meaning high-level engineers, mathematicians and those working in the sciences are also less likely to be be replaced by automation. “Scientists and engineers need to have a very in-depth understanding to work out what to study next, which actually involves a fair amount of creativity, just as someone working in the arts does,” adds Frey. The human factor“There are quite a few occupations that we don‟t see as likely to be replaced. But they have just one thing in common –they need attentive, human qualities,” says Frey.Osborne agrees that the jobs left for our children are more likely to be creative, involve social interaction, or be physical –which are also typically the types of job we most enjoy. “There‟s evidence to suggest that as we get more automated, machines will do more of the dirty, repetitiveroutine work. PessimisticDIt is a longstanding family joke that when I was three I suggested you (a sufferer of pet-hair allergy (过敏)) move out so we could get a cat. I didn‟t even like cats all that much. Funny, yes, but there was some truth in there; of course I loved you, but I didn‟t really like you.Our happiest times seemed to be away from home. I was convinced you were less serious without your glasses. That is why you came to life in the holiday-park pool, or first thing in the morning. Holidays, though, were also when we fought most. Forced to hold your hand at some dull museum. Early to bed for misbehaving. You were no fun when the glasses went back on.The turning point was your masterstroke – season tickets. You were always a bit useless at the emotional stuff, but it was during those precious afternoons –walking to the football stadium, jumping about like fools, and chatting about nothing in particular – that I grew up and started to see you for who you really were. A man who, in darker days, had thought nothing of having to drive hundreds of miles each week to keep us afloat. A man who, once we all lived a bit nearer his work, was always home in time for tea. My dad.Later, our happiest times seemed to come on long car journeys. Rescuing me, teaching me how to drive, or sharing the load as we took people to and from the airport on holiday. The glasses were on, thank heavens, and by then I didn‟t mind. That is when I started to get more fresh views: of just how deep your love ran for my mum and my brother, already seven when you arrived. And of your determination to be the sort of father that you hadn‟t had. Suddenly you weren‟t so useless at the emotional stuff. And then came the day I came out. That hug you gave me was one I will never forget. As with everything else in my life, you seem proud and I don‟t really understand why. What‟s more, you talk about it openly and comfortably. You ask meaningful questions. You have started challenging colleagues when they make lazy gay jokes. All this means everything, even if I don‟t say it nearly enough. So, here it is.I may still find you infuriating, at times. I may still laugh at the joy you get from moving everyone‟s cars around, into the most logical order, when people come to stay. But I will also love, admire, respect you a little bit more with each year that passes. And I‟ll tell you whenever I want.Thank you, Dad, for being you. Happy Father‟s Day!22.
