Whenever people experience something pleasant or unpleasant, we say they are under stress. We call the pleasant kind eustress, the unpleasant kind distress.People sometimes compare our life with that of the caveman who didn't have to worry about the stock market or the atomic bomb. They forget that the caveman worried about being eaten by a bear or about dying of hunger—things that few people worry about today. It's not that people suffer more stress today; it's just that they think they do.It is inconceivable that anyone should have no stress at all. Most people who are ambitious and want to accomplish something live under stress. They need it. But excessive stress is by all means harmful. Worse, chronic exposure to stress over a long time may cause more serious diseases and may actually shorten your life. The most frequent causes of distress in men are psychological—lack of adaptability, not having a code of behaviour. So the secret of coping with stress is not to avoid it, but to do what you like to do and what you are made to do, at your own rate. For most people, it is really a matter of learning how to behave in various situations. The most important thing is to have a code of life, to know how to liveThe modern man is suffering()A.more stress than the cavemanB.less stress than the cavemanC.different stress from the cavemanD.the same stress as the caveman35.The article is providing advice to _____()A.spend money wiselyB.make travelling enjoyableC.economize on holidaysD.avoid hidden cost on a trip36.By adopting a few simple techniques, parents who read to their childrencan greatly increase their children’s language development. It is surprising but true. How parents talk to their children makes a big difference in the children’s language development. If a parent encourages the child to actively respond to what the parent is reading, the child’s language skills increase.A study was done with 30 three-year-old children and their parents. Half of the children participated in the experimental study;the other half acted as the control group. In the experimental group, the parents were given a two-hour training session in which they were taught to ask open-ended questions rather than yes-or-no questions. For example, the parent should ask, What is the doggie doing? rather than Is the doggie running away? The parents in the experimental group were also instructed in how to help children find answers, how to suggest alternative possibilities and how to praise correct answers. At the beginning of the study, the children did not differ in measures of language development, but at the end of one month, the children in the experimental group showed 5.5 months ahead of the control group on a test of verbal expression and vocabulary. Nine months later, the children in the experimental group still showed an advance of 6 months over the children in the control groupWhich of the following can be inferred from the passage()A.Children who talk a lot are more intelligentB.Parents who listen to their children can teach them moreC.Active children should read more and be given more attentionD.Verbal ability can easily be developed with proper methods37.What can be the best title for the passage()A.Mining Accidents in AmericaB.Robots in MinesC.Cave Crawler, the Latest RobotD.The Future of Robots38.The text is most probably a ______()A.science news reportB.book reviewC.newspaper adD.science fiction story六、作文(1题)39.1.

Whilethere are many benefits to using social media, such as staying connected with friends and family, there are also drawbacks, such as the spread of fake news and cyberbullying. In this essay, I will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of social media on society. One of the main benefits of social media is its ability to connect people from all over the world. Through platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, we can stay in touch with friends and family members who are miles away. Social media also allows us to share our ideas and opinions with a wider audience, making it easier to raise awareness about important issues. There are also drawbacks to using social media. One of the biggest concerns is the spread of fake news and misinformation. With the rise of social media, it has become easier for false information to spread rapidly, leading to confusion and distrust among users. Additionally, social media can be a breeding ground for cyberbullying and online harassment. Many people have fallen victim to cyberbullying, which can have serious consequences on their mental health. In conclusion, social media has both benefits and drawbacks on society. While it has transformed the way we communicateand share information, it also comes with risks such as the spread of fake news and cyberbullying. It is important for users to be aware of these dangers and use social media responsibly. Ultimately, social media is a powerful tool that can bring people together, but it should be used in a way that promotes positivity and kindness.Overall, the 2024 Anhui Province College English Entrance Examination covers a wide range of topics and tests students' reading comprehension, language skills, and writing abilities. So yes—money can be a great 55in bringing happiness in life.and what about those who have their jobs? How often do they sacrifice(牺牲)their whole life to the pursuit of money? Now there are many people who feel true 56 in the game—they love to work long hours to earn more money, and we should let them do just that. Let them follow their57, because money can be a great motivator in achieving their better things in life.We often hear58of how these long working hours have caused problems in people’s59lives because they don’t have time for their friends and family. But the advantages of testing are not going to change the attraction of the interview to employers. The appeal of the interview has everything to do with the human factor. Most people believe that they are a reasonable judge of character and trust their instinctive feelings. We might use some kind of test to aid the selection process, but we usually pick a candidate who interviews well, has good qualifications and an impressive work record. But suppose the candidate lies or is less than completely honest, This can be a serious problem of employers, explains Alan Conrad, Chief Executive at Optimus Recruitment. The most difficult liars to find are those who tell halftruths rather than complete lies. Research shows that up to 75 percent of resumes are inaccurate on purpose. The most common practice is omission. Interviewer should therefore concentrate on areas of uncertainty such as gaps between periods of employment and job descriptions that seem strange. Focusing on these areas will force candidates to tell the truth or become increasingly dishonest. This is usually when people signal their anxiety by their body language. Sweat on the upper lip, false smiles and nervous hand movements all indicate discomfort.Conrad does not suggest an aggressive policy-style interview technique, but insists that close inspection of a resume is absolutely essential. Only by asking the right questions can you confirm the suitability of the candidate or put pressure on those who are being less than completely honestThe best title of this passage can be _________()A.How to Catch Out the Dishonest CandidateB.How to Find a Job by TricksC.Disadvantages of Job InterviewsD.Advantages of Job Interviews六、作文(1题)39.1.

All too often, they are also ineffective. A good password has to be both easy to remember and hard to guess, but in practice people seem to pay attention to the former. Names of wives, husbands and children are popular. 123456 or 12345 are also common choices. That predictability lets security researchers (and hackers)create dictionaries which list common passwords, useful to those seeking to break in. But although researchers know that passwords are insecure, working out just how insecure has been difficult. Many studies have only small samples to work on.However, with the co-operation of Yahoo! Joseph Bonneau of Cambridge University obtained the biggest sample to date—70 million passwords that came with useful data about their owners.Mr. Bonneau found some interesting variations. Older users had better passwords than young ones. People whose preferred language was Korean or German chose the most secure passwords; those who spoke Indonesian the least. Passwords designed to hide sensitive information such as credit card numbers were only slightly more secure than those protecting less important things, like access to games. Nag screens that told users they had chosen a weak password made virtually no difference. and users whose accounts had been hacked in the past did not make more secure choices than those who had never been hacked. But it is the broader analysis of the sample that is of most interest to security researchers. Despite their differences, the 70 million users were still predictable enough that a generic password dictionary as effective againstboth the entire sample and any slice of it. Mr. Bonneau is blunt: An attacker who can manage ten guesses per account will compromisearound 1% of accounts. and that is a worthwhile outcome for a hacker. One obvious solution would be for sites to limit the number of guesses that can be made before access is blocked.Yet whereas the biggest sites, such as Google and Microsoft, do take such measures, many do not. The reasons of their not doing so are various. So it’s time for users to consider the alternatives to traditional passwordsPeople tend to use passwords that are ________()A.easy to rememberB.hard to figure outC.random numbersD.popular names35.The woman patient stopped telling her story to most people because ______()A.she didn’t get enough respect from othersB.she was discouraged by being often interruptedC.people often told her their own opinionsD.people couldn’t understand her sad situation36.The subject of this passage is______()A.why people sleepB.the human need for REM sleepC.the characteristics of REM sleepD.physical changes in the human body37.Passage 1Looking to improve your language skills, but you don't have the time to go abroad to attend school? More and more universities around the world are offering opportunities to students to get degrees online(distance education)from the comfort of their own homes, and many of these colleges and universities are accredited(经官方认可), meaning that they have met certain standards of excellence. If you decide to take language courses online (or any subject for that matter),be sure there are advantages in studying online. Its costs are usually lower, and you can study at your own pace, and you can easily get the materials 24 hours a day from almost any computer in the world. However, you won't get the human interaction(互动)of meeting people face to face, as you would if you were attending a school abroad in person. On the other hand, the advantages of going abroad may include day-to-day chances to learn a new culture, to meet new friends with whom you can use and practice the language, and to see different parts of the world. However, there may be a number of disadvantages for some students, including high costs, time away from one's school, family, or work life, and difficulty in getting used to a new culture and way of life.Whatever you do, consider a distance education program that meets your educational needs, is what you can afford, and equally importantly, provides you with chances to grow beyond the classroom through cultural and educational activitiesWhat is the purpose of the author in writing the text()A.To discuss ways of improving language skillsB.To persuade people to go abroad to attend universitiesC.To advise readers to meet different people from abroadD.To introduce online programs to people unable to go abroad38.Paragraph One is mostly devoted to the discussion of _____()plex reasons that make people seem lazyB.serious problems that lazy people suffer fromC.other sorts of fantasies that may prevent workD.great deals that people are busy planning六、作文(1题)39.1.

(This short passage, which is imaginary, is made up by Mr. ZHANG Hongguo, wishing to remind my beloved students of some language points learned in the classes! May you succeed!)I am not very good at English. Neither are some of my classmates. However, as we all know, with the development of society, it is important for us to master a foreign language. Therefore, I signed up for the English class of Enbo Huaying Training Center two months ago. Many a worker in the center has provided me with much advice on English and other subjects learning.Till now, I have been in the center for two dozen days. I have been used to getting up early and spending at least half an hour reading English every morning. When having classes, I listen carefully and take down notes in detail. After class, I go over what I have learnt in the class. Sometimes, I practice speaking English with my classmates. To be honest, I have some difficulty mastering all the language points, but helped by the teachers and the classmates, I have made much progress. Mr. ZHANG, our English teacher, is very patient with us and he has been encouraging us to work hard, which makes me deeply moved. But for the very encouragement, I wouldn’t have continued my English learning. It is in this training center that I have found the confidence and interest in learning English. The more interested I become in English, the more likely I am to learn English well. Not only do I concentrate on my study, but also I relax myself sometimes. There is a supermarket in Changjiang Road. It takes us five minutes to walk there from our training center. The other day, my classmates and I went shopping there. How cool it was in the supermarket! There were various items and goods, some of whose prices are very low. I chose a beautiful red toy car for my cousin, which was two-fifths more expensive than those in the streets, but whose quality is superior.I have the confidence that only if I work hard, can I succeed in passing the exams.Let’s study hard, shall we?Come on!【分析】◆◆◆(This short passage, which is imaginary, is made up by Mr. ZHANG Hongguo, wishing to remind my beloved students of some language points learned in the classes! May you succeed!)◆◆◆1.
2. imaginary意为“虚构的”,注意其同根词imaginative (充满想象力的)、imaginable(能够想象到的)、imagined(被想象的)、imagine(想象)和image(名词:形象)。
3. make up“编造、化妆”。
如be made from/ be made of / be made up of / make for / make out等。
5. remind sb of sth“提醒某人某事”。
相同的结构有:inform / deprive / rob / accuse / convince sb of sth等。
◆◆◆I am not very good at English. Neither are some of my classmates. However, as we all know, with the development of society, it is important for us to master a foreign language. Therefore, I signed up for the English class of Enbo Huaying Training Center two months ago. Many a worker in the center has provided me with much advice on English and other subjects learning.◆◆◆1. be good at 或do well in 都可以表示“擅长于”。
2. neither或nor使用倒装结构表表示“也不”,注意“so it is”和“so is it”的用法。
如“随着”as/with,“但是”while/however/though,“因为”because/ because of,“尽管”although/despite等。
4. as we all know表示“众所周知”,可以改成被动语态As is known to all, …。
6. 注意it is important / necessary / easy/ difficult / convenient / possible for sb to do的表达。
Sb has difficulty (in) doing sth和sb is likely to do sth.7. therefore是副词,表示“所以”。
9. 注意many a + noun / more than one + noun等做主语时的主谓一致问题。
