大约50万年前，我们与尼安德特人和丹尼索瓦人拥有一个共同的祖先海德堡人，到55万至76.5万年前，我们开始与尼安德特人和丹尼索瓦人相分离。
此后的20万至3万年前，尼安德特人遍布欧洲和亚洲，欧洲、西亚、中东都发现了他们的化石。
但人类与尼安德特人的关系并没有终结。
我们的祖先大约于6.5万年前到达欧亚大陆，并与尼安德特人交配。
2010年，基因测序发现，欧洲人和亚洲人的基因组里携带着尼安德特人的基因，除非洲以外的人类DNA有1.5%-2.1%的来源于尼安德特人。
人类和尼安德特人交配孕育了现在的我们，欧亚人白皙的皮肤部分归因于尼安德特人，他们的DNA帮助人类更好地适应非洲以外的生活。
