Text 10
The best way of learning a language is to use it. The best way to learn English is speaking it as much as possible. Sometimes you will get your words mixed up and people will not understand you. Sometimes people will say things too quickly and you can't understand them. But if you keep your sense of humor, you can always have a good laugh about the mistakes you make. Don't be unhappy if people seem to be laughing at your mistakes. It is much better for people to be laughing at your mistakes than to be angry because they don't understand what you are saying. The most important rule for learning English is, “Don't be afraid of making mistakes; everyone makes mistakes.”
11-15BBACA16-20BBBBC
A
An upper class British lady once declared: “Anyone_seen_on_a_bus_after_the_age_of_30_has_been_a_failure_i n_life.” This may sound arrogant(傲慢) and ignorant. Unfortunately, there are still people thinking that way. Some wealthy folk in the West look down on buses and boast about how many years it has been since they last travelled by one.
How sad is that? Our roads are packed with cars and the air is full of the pollution they emit. But still, many car users are unwillingly to get on a bus or a bike or a train to take themselves to work. It's convenient to drive, they'll say. Buses are so unreliable, they'll claim. And trains are expensive — at least in the UK. It's an attitude which may have to change. It doesn't make sense to drive a car in a city where there's a public transport system. Also, these rush hour commuters (往返上班者) usually travel alone.
As a result, transport authorities in the UK are looking at solutions to city center congestion (拥堵). One is to increase the number of parking spaces at out-of-town railway stations. More motorists can then leave their cars and travel into the city by train. Light rail or tramways are another environmentally friendly solution. Many cities across Europe have had light rail or tramway systems. The subway in London is used by everyone, rich and poor. It's the quickest way of getting around the city, whatever your bank balance. And then there are the cycle hire plans you find in many modern cities. In London and Paris, you can hire a bike by the hour to get you where you need to go.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is often pictured cycling to work. David Cameron, the British prime minister, cycled to the House of Commons before he became leader.
21.What's the implied meaning of the underlined sentence in the first paragraph?
A. If a person above 30 can travel on a bus, he was successful.
B. If a person above 30 cannot travel on a bus, he has failed in his life.
C. If you are middle-aged and don't have a car, then you are a loser.
D. If the middle-aged often travel by bus, they will be losers.
22.Which of the following is NOT the reason why some car users are unwilling to change their way of transport?
A. It's convenient to drive around the city.
B. They cannot count on buses.
C. It costs them much money to take trains.
D. Driving cars has little effect on environment.
23.How many solutions to congestion have been mentioned in the article?
A. 3.
B. 4.
C. 5.
D. 6.
24.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Cycling to work grows in popularity in the UK.
B. David Cameron keeps driving to work all the time.
C. Prime Minister is a good example in the campaign.
D. More people are taking different methods to better the environment.
B
Here is a story about an American general who was a very important figure in the American army during the First World War. Everybody in the United States knew him and many people wished to have a picture or something of his in their homes.
Soon after the war the general returned to Washington. One day he went to a dentist and had six teeth pulled out. A week later the general heard that his teeth were being sold in curiosity shops (古玩店) at $ 5 each. On each of the teeth there was a label with the name of the general and words: “Buy these teeth and show them to your friends at home.” The general got angry. He rushed to his office and ordered six officers to go around the city and buy all his teeth.
The officers went out and visited every curiosity shop in the
capital. They were away from the office all day. In the evening they returned and put the teeth they had bought on the table in front of the general. They had collected 175 teeth.
25.The general returned to Washington________.
A. during the war
B. after civil war
C. in or after 1945
D. in or after 1918

26.The general's teeth were sold in________.
A. the museum
B. the special shops selling some rare and interesting things
C. the department store
D. the hospital
27.In the evening, the officers went back with all the teeth which cost ________.
A. $ 785
B. $1050
C. $157
D. $ 875
28.Which is the best title for the passage?
A. An American General
B. A Curiosity Shop
C. A Good Tooth
D. The Valuable Teeth

Have you taken inventory (调查) of the stress in your life? Stress can come from work. It can come from family. It can come from the places we live and the lifestyles we choose.
In a recent survey, 60 percent of respondents (被调查者) said the city in which they live is noisier now than five years ago.
The other 40 percent? They didn't hear the question.
How much stress do you feel? Though not all stress should be avoided, too much pressure can cause lasting harm in practically every area of your life. The solution is to take control.
Robert Reich did just that. As Secretary of Labor in the Clinton cabinet (内阁),Robert B. Reich, told of his decision to resign from the stressful job. He said, “I have the best job I've ever had and probably ever will. No topping it.” It was true. He seemed to love his job. But he added, “I also have the best family I'll ever have, and I can't get enough of them.” And there was the problem — too much of a good thing. He could not give himself to his family and to this particular career at the same time.
So Reich said,“I had to choose, I told the boss I'll be leaving, and explained why.” His boss, of course, was the president of the United States. And the country took notice. Some people were surprised. Here was a high government official who made a decision to step out of an important and powerful position in order to spend more time at home. He took control.
That is the first step to free ourselves from unnecessary stress:
take control. Make the hard decision. It may be a decision for less money, a smaller home, a new location, a different job, less prestige(声望),or a simpler lifestyle. But one thing I believe: it will be a decision you will never regret.
32.According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. No stress should be avoided.
B. The only solution to stress is to take control.
C. Now the city is as noisy as what it was five years ago.
D. Too much pressure is bad for our health.
答案与解析D根据文章第四段第二句too much pressure can cause lasting harm in practically every area of your life可知。
33.Why did Robert Reich decide to resign?
A. Because he didn't like his job.
B. Because his job is not good.
C. Because he wanted to spend more time with his family.
D. Because he had found a better job.
34.The best title for the passage should be ________.
A. Stress Can Do Harm to Our Life
B. Taking Control of Stress
C. Robert Reich's Decision to Resign from the Job
D. Giving More Time to Our Family
35.The author's attitude to Robert Reich's resignation is ________.
A. worried
B. supportive
C. doubtful
D. surprised

Our Bedroom
I'm very glad that I have a flat of my own. It's a small flat of about 30 square meters, with a living room, a bathroom and a kitchen. It is on the second floor of a building on Xuefu Street, which is not far from my school. It usually takes me about 5 minutes to go to school on foot.
The living room is simple but comfortable to live in. It's very convenient for me to have a shower in the separate bathroom. And I
can cook food by myself in the kitchen.
I love my living space. It's really a pleasure to live here.。
