Now nothing stands in the way of environmentally friendly solar power that is available around the clock even in the event of a grid failure. The Powador-gridsave system stores solar power during the day and holds it ready for later use. It closes the gap in time between power generation and power consumption. As an energy storage system intended for integration in new and existing photovoltaic systems. Integrated into the compact system are the battery, controller and interface to the inverter of the photovoltaic system into one compact system.

Profiting from Personal Consumption
With Paragraph 33 of the German Renewable Energies Act (EEG), the German government has offered an incentive for consuming solar power locally by making personal consumption more profitable than feeding into the grid by up to 8 euro cents per kilowatt hour. Families living in a single family house can benefit from the compensation for power fed into the grid because by using the Powador-gridsave, they can achieve a personal consumption of approximately 70 per cent. The original revenue model is based on users feeding the power they have generated into the grid and receiving the statutory compensation which depends on the power rating of their PV system. For systems with up to 30 kW, you receive 28.74 euro cents per kilowatt hour. The power you generate is supplied to others. The alternative is consuming the power you generate yourself. In this case, you still receive the feed-in compensation, minus 16.38 euro cents when your own consumption is 30 per cent per year or less, or minus 12 euro cents if your own consumption is above 30 per cent per year. The profit kicks in when you add the energy cost you save – 20 euro cents per kilowatt hour on average – to the received compensation. All in all, in a 30 kW PV system, the revenue for personal consumption of 30 per cent or less is 32.36 euro cents per kilowatt hour, and 36.74 euro cents per kilowatt hour if personal consumption amounts to more than 30 per cent. In comparison with simple feed-in compensation, this results in a profit of: 3.6 euro cents per kilowatt hour for up to 30 per cent of the solar power you use yourself 8 euro cents per kilowatt hour for the proportion exceeding 30 per cent

Independence From the Grid
A stable supply of power is taken for granted, but local power failures throughout Europe, including Germany, cannot be ruled out. Conventional grid-connected photovoltaic systems cannot guarantee a reliable supply of power at the present time, since feed-in inverters are immediately disconnected from the grid for safety reasons when there is a power failure. Integrating the Powador-gridsave system in a grid-connected system remedies this situation. The grid-connected photovoltaic system is turned into a solar-fed energy centre: In case of a power failure, the “Home Energy Manager” automatically switches the in-house grid to standalone mode and disconnects the photovoltaic system from the public power grid. It is now used as an energy source that can supply electrical devices directly or charge the battery station.
