About CUST
Changsha University of Science & Technology (CUST) is an engineering-centered multidisciplinary university integrating engineering, science, management, economics, liberal arts and law, with strong disciplinary advantages and prominent features in the industries of communications, electric power and water conservancy. The university is jointly established by the Central Government and Hunan Provincial Government, mainly under the administration of Hunan Province.
The university is located on Jinpenling and Yuntang Campuses, with an area of 210.56 hectares (equivalent to 3158.4mu) and a total floor space of 1173000 square meters. The university has fixed assets totaling 1.683 billion yuan (around US$ 246 million), among which the apparatus and equipment for teaching and research are valued at 285 million yuan. The university has a collection of more than 3,628,700 books and a Gigabit Backbone Networking system. The multimedia classrooms and language laboratories can seat 15,772 students.
The university boasts of 17 schools and departments, with 1 post-doctoral workstation, 1 discipline and 6 sub-disciplines for doctoral degrees, 4 disciplines and 57 sub-disciplines for master’s degrees. It is accredited to confer master’s degrees to those with equivalent academic attainments and to confer master of engineering and MBA. It has 7 key disciplines at provincial or ministerial level, 11 key specialties at provincial level. The university also establishes 5 key laboratories at provincial or ministerial level, 4 research bases of Philosophy and Social Sciences at provincial level, 6 demonstration laboratories for basic courses at provincial level, 9 excellent Bases for Educational Practices at provincial level.
The university is staffed with 1882 full-time teachers, among whom are 241 professors, 3 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering in concurrent posts, 1 entitled as the State young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contribution, 1 selected as candidate of the first and second level of t he “National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project”, 1 selected as candidate of the first national level of the “New Century National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project”, and 2 with the “Program for New Century Excellent Tale nts in University” of the Ministry of Education.
The university recruits students from 31 municipalities, provinces and autonomous regions. And the full-time enrolled students total 33,000, among whom are 21,001 undergraduate students, 1507 postgraduate students and 30 PhD candidates. The graduate employment rate has kept at more than 95% for consecutive years, topping Hunan Province. The university is accredited to enroll international students and students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and has established cooperation and exchange programs with over ten universities and scientific institutes from the USA, UK, France, Russia, Canada, South Korea, Japan and Australia. The university also cooperates with Xinjiang Autonomous Region in training senior engineering talents of the minority ethics, and jointly train students of
national defense with the Air Force of the People’s Liberation Army of China.
国际交流合作
The university plays an active role in international exchanges and has established exchange and cooperation with institutions of higher learning and research institutes in a score of countries and regions including the USA, UK, France, Russia, Canada, South Korea, Japan and Australia. It has expanded cooperation of various kinds at different levels. It is accredited to enroll international students and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. In the past years, more than 400 foreign teachers and experts have come to CUST for teaching and lectures. 500 staff members have been sent abroad for studies, international conferences, visits and lectures. The university is active in exploring international education and talent training modes, has jointly established Confucius Institute with the University of Liberia, and has cooperated with enterprises in training organized international students of bachelor’s degree. The university is one of ten Pilot “Training Bases of International Talents” granted by China Oversea-Education Scholars Development Foundation, and has sent more than 100 excellent students to study in France, UK, USA, Russia and South Korea in recent years.
A. Student for advanced studies, senior students for advanced studies, short-term students:
All of the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programs are qualified to enroll the three types of students.
B. language student:
This type of student will study Chinese at the Chinese Language Training Center. Please see IV (Curriculum of Chinese Language Training Center) to get detailed information.
C. Visiting scholar:
The above postgraduate and doctorate programs are qualified to enroll this type of student.
Curriculum of Chinese Language Training Center
Chinese Language Training Center enrolls two types of students
A. Long-term student: This type of students will mainly study basic Standard Chinese. This period of schooling varies from 1-3years.Students are
taught according to their Chinese language level (elementary, intermediate, advanced). Upon completion of the program, an examination is administered. Those who pass this examination will be issued a Study Certificate, and will be eligible to enroll in a regular undergraduate program.
B. Short-term student: This type of student will receive intensive training in Standard Chinese over a short period of time, usually less than one year. The aim is to enable students to learn enough Chinese for daily living in China. Special course are offered based on the specific needs and requests of students.。
