必修二Module 4阅读理解提速练——练速度(限时:20分钟)A(2022·河南省洛阳市统一考试)Some people like modern art, while others say that is rubbish. But a cleaner who works in the Tate Gallery in London isn't able to tell the difference. The woman, whose name isn't known, mistook a work of art by the German painter Gustav Metzger for a bag of rubbish, and threw it out with other bags. The plastic bag, which contained pieces of paper and cardboard, was later recovered outside the gallery, but the artist thought that it was too damaged to be put on show again. 78-year-old Mr Metzger explained that the exhibit, which he said was a copy of a similar work he had created in 1960, was meant to show that all art is temporary and “finite (有限的)”.Embarrassed officials at the museum said that they had had to call a meeting with cleaners to explain which things should not be touched. They would not say whether Mr Metzger would be paid any compensation for the incident. However, to make absolutely sure the same thing would not happen again, they decided to cover Mr Metzger's work every evening with a coloured cloth. In this way the cleaners arriving after the gallery had been closed to the general public would realize they should not touch it.This is not the first time that museum cleaners have had trouble distinguishing exhibits from rubbish. In 2001, in another London gallery, a cleaner threw away a work by the well-known British artist Damien Hirst. It was an arrangement of empty beer bottles, coffee cups, and overflowing ashtrays, which were meant to indicate the chaos in the life of an artist. However, cleaners don't always throw things away — sometimes they clean them! This was the case with a dirty bath, which was on show in a gallery in Germany. Without asking what the bath was doing in the gallery, the cleaners simply scrubbed it clean.语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文。

必修二Module 2“阅读+七选五+完形”组合练——练题型(限时:35分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解(2022·江西九校联合测试)More than 4 in 10 cancers — 600,000 in the UK alone — could be prevented if people led healthier lives, say experts. The population of the UK is about 63,000,000.Latest figures from Cancer Research UK show smoking is the biggest avoidable risk factor (因素), followed by unhealthy diets. The charity advises people to live healthily, limit alcohol intake and do regular exercise.According to the figures from 2007 to 2011, more than 300,000 cases of cancer recorded were linked to smoking. A further 145,000 were linked to unhealthy diets containing too much processed food. Obesity contributed to 88,000 cases and alcohol to 62,200. Sun damage to the skin and physical inactivity were also contributing factors.Professor Max Parkin, a Cancer Research UK statistician, says, “There's now little doubt that certain lifestyle choices can have a big influence on cancer risk, with research around the world all pointing to the same key risk factors.”“Of course everyone wants to enjoy some extra treats during the Christmas holidays so we don't wantto ban beef pies and wine but it's a good time to think about taking up some healthy habits.”“Leading a healthy lifestyle can't guarantee someone won't get cancer butwe_can_stack_the_odds_in_our_favour by taking positive steps.”Public Health England says a healthy lifestyle can play an important role in reducing cancer risk. It says campaigns such as Smokefree, Dry January and Change4Life Sugar Swaps all aim to raise public awareness. It's important that we not only continue to make progress in noticing cancer earlier and improving treatments, but helping people understand how they can reduce their risk of developing cancer in the first place remains important in dealing with cancer.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。

必修二Module 5“阅读+七选五+完形”组合练——练题型(限时:35分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解(2022·东北三省三校第一次联考)The Internet is full of headlines that grab your attention with buzzwords (流行术语). But often when we click through, we find the content hardly delivers and it wastes our time. We close the page, feeling we've been cheated. These types of headlines are called “click bait”.A headline on Business Insider reads:“This phrase will make you seem more polite”. First, when you click through, you find another headline:“Four words to seem more polite”. Then, on reading the article, you find it's actually an essay about sympathy. And what are the four words? They're “Wow, that sounds hard”. On some video websites, you might encounter headlines such as “Here's what happens when six puppies visited a campus”. It turns out that it's just some uneventful dog footage (连续镜头).Nowadays, with the popularity of social media, many news outlets tweet (推送) click bait links to their stories. These tweets take advantage of the curiosity gap or attempt to draw the reader into a story using a question in the headline. These click bait headlines are so annoying that someone is attempting to savepeople's time by exposing news outlet click bait through social media. The Twitter account @ Sa v edYouAClick, run by Jake Beckman, is one such example.Beckman's method is to grab tweets linking to a story and retweet them with a click-saving comment. For example, CNET tweeted “So iOS 8 appears to be jailbreakable but ...”,with a link to its coverage of Apple's product announcements. Beckman retweeted it with this comment attached: “...it hasn't been jailbroken yet.”Since founding the account, Beckman's Twitter experiment has brought him more than 131,000 followers. Beckman said,“@ SavedYouAClick is just my way of trying to help the Internet be less terrible.” Asked about his goal, he said,“I'd love to see publishers think about the experience of their readers first. I think there's an enormous opportunity for publishers to provide readers with informative updates that include links so you can click through and read more.”语篇解读:本文是一篇谈论文。

必修五Module 2“阅读+七选五+完形”组合练——练题型(限时:35分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解(2022·江西赣州高三摸底考试)It is a familiar scene these days: employees taking newly laid-off (下岗)co-workers out for a drink for comfort. But which side deserves sympathy more, the jobless or the still employed? On March 6, researchers at a conference at the University of Cambridge heard data suggesting it's the latter.Brendan Burchell, a Cambridge sociologist, presented his analysis based on various surveys conducted across Europe. The data suggest that employed people who feel insecure in their jobs show similar levels of anxiety and depression as those who are unemployed. Although a newly jobless person's mental health may “bottom out” after about six months, and then even begin to improve, the mental state of people who are continuously worried about losing their job “just continues to get worse and worse,” Burchell says.Evolutionary psychologists support this theory by arguing that human beings feel more stress during times of insecurity because they sense an immediate but invisible threat. Patients have been known to experience higher levels of anxiety, for example, while waiting for examination results than knowing what they are suffering from — even if the result is cancer. It's better to get the bad news and start doing something about it rather than wait with anxiety. When the uncertainty continues, people stay in a nonstop “fight or flight” response, which leads to damaging stress. But not every employee in insecure industries has such a discouraging view, Burchell says. In general, women get on better. While reporting higher levels of anxiety than men when directly questioned, women scored lower in stress on the GHQ 12, even when they had a job they felt insecure about losing. As Burchell explains, “For women, most studies show that any job — it doesn't matter whether it is secure or insecure —gives psychological improvement over unemployment.” Burchell supposes that the difference in men is that they tend to feel pressure not only to be employed, but also to be the primary breadwinner, and that more of a man's self-worth depends on his job.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。

必修一Module 1阅读理解提速练——练速度(限时:20分钟)A(2022·江西重点中学盟校第一次联考)Students wishing to safeguard their careers against changes in the job market should opt for science rather than arts degrees, according to a survey of undergraduates.Engineering and chemistry were considered to be the most “future proof”,as they are courses most likely to lead to an enduring and adaptable career.Students polled by Pearson College were broadly optimistic that their chosen courses would prepare them for a world in which the job market could change dramatically during their working lives. But opinion was sharply divided over which degrees were best for future-proof careers.Eighty-two percent of respondents believed engineering would help develop future-proof skills, with 74 percent believing the same of chemistry and 73 percent of computer science. But just 33 percent of undergraduates believed history would lead to a future-proof career, and 40 percent English. However more than two thirds of students (67 percent) thought the world of work would be significantly different or completely unrecognizable in 20 years. The findings, published today, come after Education Secretary Nicky Morgan sparked controversy with claims that teenagers should steer clear of the arts and humanities and opt for science or maths subjects if they want to access the widest range of jobs. She said that in previous decades students would only take maths or science if they wanted to pursue a specific career such as medicine or pharmacy, but nowadays that“couldn't_be_further_from_the_truth”.“If you wanted to do something different, or even if you didn't know what you wanted to do ... then the arts and humanities were what you chose. Because they were useful — we were told — for all kinds of jobs. Of course now we know that couldn't be further from the truth, and that the subjects that keep young people's options open and unlock doors to all sorts of careers are the STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects.”She also described maths as “the subject that employers value most” and said that pupils who study A-level maths will earn 10 percent more over their lifetime.“These figures show us that too many young people are making choices aged 15 which will hold them back for the rest of their lives.”she said.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。
