Step2. While-writing activities.
Task 1
First teacher explains what pen pal is, then encourages students to make pen pals in order to practice English. In 3a, the question states that “an exchange program” pen pal wants to learn about Chinese customs. At last would you like to help her / him ?

Choose one of them in the pictures to think about the writing steps.

我认为这样能降低写作的难度,提高学生尤其是中下等学生的自信。

Step3. Post-writing activities.
Evaluate reports.
1. After all students finish writing, choose several students to evaluate the report on the blackboard item by item according to the evaluation scales. Then, the teacher corrects the wrong places in red chalk with all students. Finally, give grades.

Did he/she include all the information of 3b?
Did he/she use the key words and phrases?
He /She uses the tense, right?
Are there any mistakes in grammar?
Is his / her handwriting good?
2. Then ask students to check their partners’ reports according to the above evaluation scales.
3. Choose several students to read their reports. Other students listen carefully and find out the wrong places and correct the mistakes.
4. Ask students about what they think of their classmates’ positions and how they should give them grades. In this way, students can learn to make ments.
【设计意图】通过典型展示、师生评价、生生互评,可以让学生在发现自己不足的过程中学习他人的长处,不断提高自我。

3. Writing practice
假如你叫刘敏,你的笔友Paul 要来中国学习一段时间,在到中国之前,他想了解中国的风俗习惯,请你给他写封信,讲述一些中国的风俗习惯,告诉他不要紧张。

1、复习环节为后面的写作准备了短语和句型。

预习环节又为学习3a,3b扫除了语言障碍。
