We can make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money. But most mistakes are about people. "Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen?" "When I got that great job, did Jerry really feel good about as a friend? Or did he envy my luck?" When we look back, doubts like these can make us feel bad. But when we look back, it's too late. Why do we go wrong about our friends or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. And if we don't really listen, we miss the feeling behind the words. Suppose someone tells you, "You're a lucky dog." Is he really on your side? If he says, "You're a lucky guy." or "You're a lucky gal." That's being friendly. But "lucky dog"? There's a bit of envy in those words. Maybe he doesn't see it himself. But bringing in the "dog" bit puts you down a little. What he may be saying is he doesn't think you deserve your luck. How can you tell the real meaning behind someone's words? One way is to take a good look at the person talking. Do his words fit the way he looks? Does what he says square with the tone of voice? His posture(体态)? The look in his eyes? Stop and think. Spend some time thinking about the real meaning of what people say to you, and you may save another mistake.(1)The questions in the first paragraph tell us that the speaker ___________________.A. feels happy because his friends were nice to himB. feels he may not have "read" his friends' true feelings correctlyC. thinks it was a mistake to have broken up with his girlfriend HelenD. is sorry that his friends let him down(2)From the example "You're a lucky dog", we can learn that ______________.A. the speaker of the sentence is friendlyB. it means the same as "You're a lucky guy." or "You're a lucky gal."C. sometimes the words used by the speaker give a tip to the feeling behind the wordsD. the word "dog" shouldn't be used to describe a person(3)The passage tries to tell you how to ___________.A. avoid mistakes about money and friendsB. bring the "dog" bit into our conversationC. be friendly to other peopleD. avoid mistakes in understanding what people tell you(4)What is important in listening to a person?A. To notice his tone, his posture and the look in his eyes.B. To listen to how he pronounces his words.C. To check if his words go well with his manner, his tone of voice and his posture.D. Don't believe what he says.(5)If you follow the writer's advice, you would ____________.A. be able to get the real meaning of people's wordsB. avoid any mistakes while talking with the people who envy youC. not lose real friends who say things that do not please youD. be able to observe peopleas they are talking to you【答案】(1)B(2)C(3)D(4)C(5)A【解析】【分析】主要讲了怎样避免误解他人。

例如:①have a good time=enjoy oneself②be able to =have the ability to do③Don't walk on the grass.=Keep off the grass.④Close until 9:30 a.m.=The shop will be open at 9:30 a.m.⑤Not to be given to children under 8.= You shouldn't give it to children of less than 8 years old.

These fears were very real and caused me some uncomfortable moments.Maybe it was the strange way things looked and sounded in my own room at night that scared me so much. There was never complete darkness, but always a street light or car lights, which made clothes on the back of a chair take on the shape of a wild animal. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the curtains(窗帘) seem to move when there was no wind. A very low sound in the dark would seem a hundred times louder than in the day. My imagination(想象) would run wild, and my heart would beat fast. I would lie very still so that the "enemy(敌人)" would not discover me.Another of my childhood fears was that I would get lost, especially on the way home from school. Every morning I got on the school bus right near my home. That was no problem. After school, though, when all the buses were lined up along the street, I was afraid that I would get on the wrong one and be taken to some other strange places. On school or family trips to a park or a museum, I wouldn't let the leaders out of my sight.Perhaps one of the worst fears of all I had as a child was that of not being liked or accepted by others. However, my family is very big on having a traditional career (职业) and so when I said that I wanted to go to college and study writing, my parents told me that I couldn't. They told me that I had to study for a degree so that I would achieve a career, and not something as risky as writing. I suppose I could have studied joumalism (新闻),but I didn't want to lose interest in writing because it would be something I would do every day for work, not for pleasure. I thought that teaching looked like a pretty good compromise (妥协) , especially because of the long holidays. It was a good choice: by the time I was twenty-five,I'd already finished two novels and had an agent. To be honest, I never meant to keep my being a crime writer a secret or anything, and my friends have always known. One of the reasons most people don't know is because my agent told me that my name Hazel sounded too much like a romance (浪漫) novelist for older women. She suggested Brooke Lane and I thought, "Well, if you think it'll make me successful, okay," I'd totally forgotten about it until I walked into school one day and saw one of my workmates reading my novel. I asked her some questions about it, and it was so clear that she had no idea that I'd written it - she even offered to lend it to me after she'd finished! Of course, sometimes I wonder what my students would think if they knew that their teacher was going home on the weekend to write about murders and dead bodies, but I think my parents probably did me a favor: my teaching job keeps me in touch with the real world.(1)Hazel is probably .A. an agentB. a journalistC. a teacher and artistD. a teacher and writer (2)The underlined words "is very big on " in the passage most probably mean .A. to give no adviceB. to like something very muchC. to have more experiencesD. to misunderstand something(3)It's clear that Hazel .A. agreed to study journalism for a degreeB. accepted Brooke Lane as her pen nameC. would like to write something for teachingD. told her workmates about her writing novels(4)Hazel finally realized that her parents' advice on her career was .A. helpfulB. excitingC. disappointingD. risky(5)We can infer from the passage that .A.

(1) Which of the following is right?(2) Which of the following is not mentioned?(3) Which of the following is Not True in the passage?(4) Choose the right order of this passage.(5) From this passage we know _______.…

31. The 26th World Universidad will begin on ______.A. August 12thB. August 23rdC. September 12thD.

The 26th World Universidad will be held in the city from August 12th to 23rd.

35. The four cities are all ___according to the passage.A. modern cities with a short historyB. in New ZealandC. near lakes, rivers or seasD. large cities在阅读材料中,有这样这些文字:… It was built on small islands in saltwater lakes more than 1,500 years ago.…In the seaside city, you can enjoy an amazing view from the city’s tallest tower—the Sky Tower.…There are many beautiful beaches near the city.…Visitors like to take boat rides along the Danube(多瑙河).

39. The underlined word “they”in the last paragraph refers to___.A.adaptations B.Darwin and WallaceC. animals D.Darwin's ideas文中有这么一段文字:...Darwin described how some animals have adaptations that help them survive. They are passed on to,offspring(后代).Darwin’s ideas about adaptations are still very important to the study of living things.3.

47. Paragraph 3 tells us that ______.A. our hands look similarB. the microbes will make the keyboard dirtyC. we should compare our hands oftenD. we have our own sets of microbes“Everyone has his own set of microbes on the hands.” That is to say, if you and your best friend were able to see and compare all the microbes on your hands, your hands probably would look different. Some microbes only show up on your hands while others live only on your friend’s hands.文段3 主要针对“Everyone has his own set of microbes on the hands.”

(1) The word “”in the passage probably means ____.(2) In this story the underlined word “”means ____.
