Grandpa grew up on a farm way out in the countryside during the 1950s. Can you even imagine that? No video games, no internet, no cell phones...just good old fashioned hard work and simple living.As a young man, Grandpa was a bit of a rebel though. Against his parents' wishes, he decided not to take over the family farm. Instead, right after high school, he joined the military and served in the Vietnam War as a medic. He told me his craziest memory from that time was carrying a wounded soldier over 10 miles to the medical tent, all while being shot at by the enemy! Grandpa received a Purple Heart medal for his bravery and courage during that rescue mission.
