专插本英语作文From Diploma to Bachelor: My Experience as a Transfer Student。
As a transfer student from a vocational college to a university, I have experienced the challenges and rewards of pursuing a bachelor's degree through a specialized program known as "专插本" in China. The journey began when I completed my three-year diploma in computer science at a vocational college. While I had acquired practical skills and knowledge in my field, I felt that I needed to deepen my understanding and broaden my horizons through a four-year bachelor's degree. However, I knew that the traditional route of taking the national college entrance exam (gaokao) and entering a university directly was not feasible for me due to various reasons. That was when I learned about the "专插本" program, which allows vocational college graduates to transfer to auniversity and complete a bachelor's degree in two to three years, depending on the program and the student's academic performance. I researched the universities that offeredthis program and applied to several of them. The application process was not easy, as I had to submit my transcripts, certificates, and other documents, as well as pass interviews and exams. I also had to compete with other transfer students for limited spots in each program. However, I was determined to succeed and pursued my dream with passion and perseverance. Finally, I was accepted into a top-ranked university and started my new life as a transfer student. I was excited and nervous at the same time, as I knew that the academic standards and expectations would be much higher than what I had experienced before. Moreover, I had to adapt to a new environment, make new friends, and balance my studies with my part-time job.Fortunately, I found that the university provided various resources and support for transfer students, suchas orientation sessions, academic advisors, and peer mentors. I also discovered that many of my classmates were also transfer students, and we shared similar backgrounds and goals. We formed study groups, joined clubs, and participated in extracurricular activities together, which helped us to bond and grow as a community. As for the academic challenges, I found that the courses were more theoretical and research-oriented than what I had learned in my vocational college. I had to read more, write more, and think more critically. I also had to improve my English proficiency, as most of the materials and lectures were in English. However, I enjoyed the intellectual stimulation and the opportunities to explore new ideas and perspectives. I also appreciated the feedback and guidance from my professors, who were experts in their fields and encouraged us to pursue our own research interests. In terms of the rewards, I felt that the "专插本" program had given me a second chance to pursue higher education and fulfill my potential. I had gained not onlyacademic knowledge and skills but also personal growth and confidence. I had learned how to manage my time, set goals, and overcome obstacles. I had also developed a broader vision of the world and a deeper appreciation of the value of education. After two years of hard work, I graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science and received offers from several companies. I chose to work for a multinational corporation that offered opportunities for career development and global exposure. I felt that my "专插本" experience had prepared me well for the challenges and opportunities of the future. In conclusion, the "专插本" program is a valuable option for vocational college graduates who aspire to pursue a bachelor's degree. It requires determination, effort, and resilience, but it also offers rewards and opportunities that can change one's life. As a transfer student, I have learned that education is not only a means to a job but also a means to a fulfilling and meaningful life.。

In 1908 an area of coastal redwood trees north of San Francisco was established as Muir Woods National Monument. In the Sierra Nevada mountains, a walking trail from Yosemite Valley to Mount Whitney was dedicated in 1938. It is called John Muir Trail.John Muir was born in 1838 in Scotland. His family name means 搈oor,?which is a meadow full of flowers and animals. John loved nature from the time he was small. He also liked to climb rocky cliffs and walls. When John was eleven, his family moved to the United States and settled in Wisconsin. John was good with tools and soon became an inventor. He first invented a model of a sawmill. Later he invented an alarm clock that would cause the sleeping person to be tipped out of bed when the timer sounded.Muir left home at an early age. He took a thousand-mile walk south to the Gulf of Mexico in 1867and 1868. Then he sailed for San Francisco. The city was too noisy and crowded for Muir, so he headed inland for the Sierra Nevadas. When Muir discovered the Yosemite Valley in the Sierra Nevadas, it was as if he had come home. He loved the mountains, the wildlife, and the trees. He climbed the mountains and even climbed trees during thunderstorms in order to get closer to the wind. He put forth the theory in the late 1860s that the Yosemite Valley had been formed through the action of glaciers. People ridiculed him. Not until 1930 was Muir’s theory proven correct.Muir began to write articles about the Yosemite Valley to tell readers about its beauty. His writing also warned people that Yosemite was in danger from timber mining and sheep ranching interests. In 1901 Theodore Roosevelt became president of the United States. He was interested in conservation. Muir took the president through Yosemite, and Roosevelt helped get legislation passed to create Yosemite National Park in 1906.Although Muir won many conservation battles, he lost a major one. He fought to save the Hetch Valley, which people wanted to dam in order to provide water for San Francisco. In the late 1913 a bill was signed to dam the valley. Muir died in 1914. Some people say losing the fight to protect the valley killed Muir.1. What happened first?A. The Muir family moved to the United States.B. Muir Woods was created.C. On the return stroke, lift the file clear of the surface to avoid dulling the instrument’s teeth. Only when working on very soft metals is it advisable to drag the file’s teeth slightly on the return stroke. This helps clear out metal pieces from between the teeth. It is best to bear down just hard enough to keep the file cutting at all times. Too little pressure uses only the tips of the teeth; too much pressure can chip the teeth. Move the file in straight lines across the surface. Use a vice to grip the work so that your hands are free to hold the file. Protect your hands by equipping the file with a handle. Buy a wooden handle and install it by inserting the pointed end of the file into the handle hole.1. These directions show you how to-A. work with a hammerB. use a fileC. polish a fileD. oil a viseE. repair shop tools2. When using a file-A. always bear down on the return strokeB. move it in a circleC. remove the handleD. press down on the forward strokeE. wear protective gloves3. When working on soft metals, you can-A. remove the handleB. clear metal pieces from the teethC. bear down very hard on the return strokeD. file in circlesE. strengthen them with added wood4. Protect your hands by-A. dulling the teethB. dragging the teeth on the backstrokeC. using a viseD. installing a handleE. wearing safety glovesPassage ThreeInsects’ lives are very short and they have many enemies, but they must survive long enough to breed and perpetuate their king. The less insectlike they look, the better their chance of survival. To look “inedible” by resembling or imitating plants or objects that hold no interest for their enemies is a deception widely practiced by insects. Mammals rarely use this type of camouflage, but many fish and invertebrates do.The stick caterpillar is well named. It is hardly distinguishable from a brown or green twig. This caterpillar is quite common and can be found almost anywhere in North America. It is also called “measuring worm” or “inchworm”. It walks by arching its body, then stretching out and grasping the branch with its front feet, then looping its body again to bring the hind feet forward. When danger threatens, the stick caterpillar stretches its body away from the branch at an angle and remains rigid and still, like a twig, until the danger has passed.Walkingsticks, or stick insects, do not have to assume a rigid, twiglike pose to find protection; they look like inedible twigs in any position. There are many kinds of walkingsticks, ranging in size from the few inches of the North American variety to some tropical species that may be over a foot long. When at rest their front legs are stretched out, heightening their camouflage. Some of the tropical species are adorned with spines or ridges, imitating the thorny bushes or trees in which they live.Leaves also seem to be a favorite object for insects to imitate. Many butterflies can suddenly disappear from view by folding their wings and sitting quietly among the foliage that they resemble.1. What is the main subject of the passage?A. Caterpillars that live in trees.B. The feeding habits of insects.C. How some insects camouflage themselves.D. Insects that are threatened with extinction.2. According to the passage, how does the stick caterpillar make itself look like a twig?A. By holding its body stiff and motionless.B. By looping itself around a stick.C. By changing the color of its skin.D. By laying its body flat against a branch.3. Which of the following is true of stick insects?A. They resemble their surroundings all the time.B. They make themselves look like other insects.C. They are camouflaged only when walking.D. They change color to make themselves invisible.4. Which of the following are NOT mentioned in the passage as objects that are imitated as a means of protection?A. thornsB. FlowersC. LeavesD. Sticks Passage FourThe nuclear age in which the human race is living, and may soon be dying, began for the general public with the dropping of an atom bomb on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945. But for nuclear scientists and for certain American Authorities, it had been known for some time that such a weapon was possible. Work towards making it had been begun by the United States, Canada and Britain very soon after the beginning of the Second World War. The existence of possibly explosive forces in the nuclei of atoms had been known every since the structure of atoms was discovered by Rutherford. An atom consists of a tiny core called the “nucleus” with electrons circling round it. The hydrogen atom, which is the simplest and lightest, has only one electron. Heavier atoms have more and more as they go up the scale. The first discovery that had to do with what goes on in nuclei was radioactivity, which is caused by particles being short out of the nucleus. It was known that a great deal of energy is locked up in the nucleus, but, until just before the outbreak of the Second World War, there was no way of releasing this energy in any large quantity. A revolutionary discovery was that, in certain circumstances, mass can be transformed into energy in accordance with Einstein’s formula which states that the energy generated is equal to the mass lost multiplied by the square of the velocity of light. The A-bomb, however, used a different process, depending upon radioactivity. In this process, called “fission”, a heavier atom splits into two lighter atoms. In general, in radioactive substances this fission proceeds at a constant rate which is slow where substances occurring in nature are concerned. But there is one form of uranium called “U235” which, when it is pure, sets up a chain reaction which spread s like fire, though with enormously greater rapidity. It is this substance which was used in making the atom bomb. The political background of the atomic scientists’ work was the determination to defeat the Nazis. It was held—I think rightly—that a Nazi victory would be a terrible disaster. It was also held, in Western countries, that German scientists must be well advanced towards making an A-bomb, and that if they succeeded before the West did they would probably win the war. When the war was over, it was discovered, to the complete astonishment of both American and British scientists, that the Germans were nowhere near success, and, as everybody knows, the Germans were defeated before any nuclear weapons had been made. But I do not think that nuclear scientists of the West can be blamed for thinking the work urgent and necessary. Even Einstein favored it.When, however, the German war was finished, the great majority of those scientists who had collaborated towards making the A-bomb considered that it should not be used against the Japanese, who were already on the verge of defeat and who, inany case, did not constitute as great a threat to the world as Hitler did. Many of them made urgent representations to the American Government maintaining that, instead of using the bomb as a weapon of War they should after a public announcement, explode it in a desert, and that future control of nuclear energy should be placed in the hands of an international authority. Seven of the most famous nuclear scientists drew up what is known as “The Frank Report” which they presented to the Secretary of War in June 1945. The is a very admirable and far-seeing document, and if it had won the agreement of the politicians, none of our subsequent terrors would have arisen.1. Crime has many forms, including crimes against property, person, and government. There is even a class of crimes called “crimes without victims” (e.g., prostitution). Crime, in all its forms, penetrates every layer of society and touches every human being. You may never have been robbed, but you suffer the increased cost of store-bought items because of others’ shoplifting, and you pay higher taxes because of others’ tax evasion. Perhaps your house is not worth as much today as it was a few years ago because of the increased crime rate in your neighborhood, or maybe your business is not doing as well as it used to because tourism is down due to increased terrorism in your part of the world. Whatever you do, wherever you live, you are a victim of crime whether you like it or not, whether you know it or not.Crime, especially violent crime, has risen to a point where many people are afraid to walk alone in their own neighborhoods, afraid to open their door after dark, afraid to speak out and voice their own opinions. Some citizens have reacted by arming themselves with various weapons, legal and illegal, to defend themselves. Citizen groups have taken the law into their own hands by forming their own vigilante groups to administer “judgement” when they feel that their criminal justice system has not performed its duty.Experts argue whether the number of crimes committed is actually on the rise or whether there is simply a rise in the number of crimes reported. This issue is particularly true in cases of conjugal violence, the abuse of spouse or children. Throughout much of history, cases of family violence and neglect often went unreported because of the attitude of society, which considered family maters to be private.Other experts argue about who is really to blame for criminal behavior: the individual or society. Researchers in the United States and Canada have identified several factors in society that contribute to the crime rate: massive urbanization, unemployment and poverty, and a large immigrant population. Other countries are more affected by factors such as politics, government corruption, and religion. The most important question that still remains unanswered, however, is how to stop crime from happening. In this chapter, we will look at a number of specific crimes and see what types of solutions are being proposed to combat them. In doing this, we shall see how problems are presented and how solutions are offered.( ) 1. Decide which of the following expresses the main idea.A. Crime has many forms, including crimes against property, person, andgovernment.B. Crime, in all its forms, penetrates every layer of society and touches everyhuman being.C. Everybody is a victim of crime whether he is aware of it or not.D. There is much debate about who is really to blame for criminal behavior. Decide whether the following statements are true (T) or false (F).( ) 2. Everyone is a victim of crime.( ) 3. Your house may lose part of its value as a result of crime.( ) 4. There is indication that the criminal justice systems fails to perform their duties.( ) 5. Experts agree that the crime rate is rising.( ) 6. Many cases of crime want reported.( ) 7. A.Mathematics.B.English.C.History.D.Typing.38.The writer’s attitude towards a part-time job is.A.positive B.negative C.neutral D.Hostile39.It can be inferred from the passage that if a student’s school work is not good,he.A.can find his weakness B.can get a new start in his workC.will fail in looking for a job D.will feel regret about his ability40.The passage is developed by giving.A.a comparison B.enough evidence C.some examples D.some factsPassage3Until the twentieth century, women did not often participate in sports.Part of the explanation for this is that women simply did not have time. Many women cooked, cleaned, and took care of children. They were so busy that they did not have time for sports.A second reason, especially in the late nineteenth century,is that a woman’s image at that time was one of weakness, illness, and delicacy. In the Victorian era, people thought that it was unladylike for a woman to be involved in any sports activity. There have been changes in both the view of women in the modern world, and also changes within the world of sports. These changes have allowed many more women to participate in sports. The general view of women has changed substantially since the Victorian era.Women are no longer considered delicate.People do not think it is unladylike for a woman to compete in sports.Women who win in sports activities are highly regarded. Many women now take part in sports and games of many different kinds, and enjoy doing so.This development is partly the result of a change in the image of women in the modern world.Women are also more active in sports now because of two changes in sports.First,in the early twentieth century, women began to compete regularly in the Olympics. Also, the number of events for women in the Olympics has been growing quite steadily. The fact that women can compete in the Olympics encourages many to become active in the various Olympic activities. In more recent years, television has had a noticeable effect on the popularity of women’s professional sports. Many women’s tennis matches and golf matches are on TV,along with many other competitions.Seeing women in professional sports on TV has made certain sports much more popular among women,as amateurs and as professionals.41.According to the passage, women did not often participate in sports in the past because.A.they were too busy B.they did not like competitionC.they did not like sports D.they loved staying at home42.Women began to participate in the Olympics.A.in the late nineteenth century B.in the Victorian AgeC.in the early twentieth century D.in the21st century has made women’s sports.A.well recognized B.highly regardedC.more professional D.more popular44.We can infer from the passage that.A.women used to be considered too weak for sportsB.women did less housework in the twentieth centuryC.the number of sports events has remained unchangedD.only women’s tennis matches and golf matches are on TV45.The best title for this passage is.A.The Image of Women B.Sports in the PastC.Women in Sports D.Modern SportsPassage4New research is trying to find how we learn and make decisions exactly. To the brain,a new thought or idea is like a spider. If it works hard enough,a web of knowledge spins out from it.Photos of the brain taken during learning actually show a kind of nerve cells firing, growing, and forming new connections. This is fascinating in itself, but what’s even more fascinating is that failure can cause this to happen. That’s right;failure can enhance your brain.Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck has compared the brain waves of people with growth and fixed mind-sets.She finds that, when those with growth mind-sets fail at a task, they would enter a more focused mental state. And as they try again and again, they improve. In effect, they’ve learned, and their brains have“grown”. Those with fixed mind-sets,however,never enter this focused state of learning and show little advancement.Antoine Bechara,a professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of Southem California, has taken Dweck’s work a step further. He recently isolated two equally sized centers in the brain. These areas interact during the decision-making process.Although more research is needed, these centers may turn out to be the physical locations for Dweck’s twin mind-sets.“We always knew people could learn from their mistakes, but now we’re finding out exactly how and where this happens,”explains Bechara.“In a normally functioning brain, failure is taken as an opportunity for learning and strengthening the species.”46.According to the passage, like a spider,a new thought or idea could.A.come from hard work B.enrich your brainC.be very fascinating D.form a knowledge web47.Which of the following statements about Antoine Bechara is true?A.He explored how human beings survive.B.He found how the brain normally functions.C.He probablydiscovered the physical locations for the twin mind-sets.D.He studied the brain waves of people with growth and fixed mind-sets.48.Carol Dweck’s work has something to do with.A.how to take photos of the brainB.how failure helps the brain“grow”C.when the areas in the brain interact with each otherD.when nerve cells fire, grow, and form new connections49.The passage is most probably from a.A.laboratory journal B.newspaper reportC.medical magazine D.personal resume50.The author’s tone can be best described as.A.objective B.critical C.personal D.officialPart III Cloze(15%)At the beginning of1993,Harrison Textile Company,a plant that makes clothes for people, suffered a disaster. TEST 2Reading ComprehensionTask 1Passage 1About ten men in every hundred suffer from colour blindness in some way; women are luckier only about one in two hundred is affected in this manner. There are different forms of colour blindness. A man may not be able to see deep red.He may think that red, orange and yellow are all shades of green. Sometimes a person cannot tell the difference between blue and green. In rare cases an unlucky man may see everything in shades of green—a strange world indeed. In certain occupations colour blindness can be dangerous and candidates are tested most carefully. For example, when fighting at night, soldiers use lights of flares to signal to each other. A green light may mean “Advance” and a red light may mean “Danger! Keep back!”, You can see what will happen if somebody thinks that red is green! Colour blindness in human beings is a strange thing to explain. In a single eye there are millions of very small things called “cones”, these help to see in a bright light and to tell the difference between colors. There are also millions of “rods” but these are used for seeing when it is nearly dark. They show us shape but not color. Wait until it is dark tonight, and then go outside. Look round you and try to see what coloBirds and animals, which hunt at night, have eyes which contain few or no cones at all, so they cannot see colours. As far as we know, bats and adult owls cannot see colours at all only light and dark shapes. Similarly cats and dogs cannot see colours as well as we canInsects can see ultraviolet rays which are invisible to us, and some of them can even see X-rays. The wings of a moth may seem grey and dull to us, but to insects they may appear beautiful, showing colours which we cannot see. Because they tremble at the thought of being seen in public in clothes that are out of fashion, they are always taken advantage of by the designers and the big stores. Clothes which have been worn only a few times have to be put aside because of the change of fashion. When you come to think of it ,only a woman is capable of standing in front of a wardrobe (衣柜)packed full of clothes and announcing sadly that she has nothing to wear.Changing fashions are nothing more than the intentional creation of waste. Many women spend vast sums of money each year to replace clothes that have hardly been worn. Women who cannot afford to throw away clothing in this way, w aste hours of their time altering the dresses they have.Skirts are lengthened or shortened; neck-lines are lowered or raised, and so on. No one can claim that the fashion industry contributes anything really important to society.Fashion designers are rarely concerned with vital things like warmth ,comfort and durability (耐用).They are only interested in outward appearance and they take advantage of the fact that women will put up with any amount of discomfort, as long as they look right. There can hardly be a man who hasn't at some time in his life smiled at the sight of a womanshaking in a thin dress on a winter day, or delicately picking her way through deep snow in high-heeled shoes. When comparing men and women in the matter of fashion, the conclusions to be drawn are obvious. Do the constantly changing fashions of women's clothes, one wonders, reflect basic qualities of inconstancy and instability? Men are too clever to let themselves be cheated by fashion designers. Do their unchanging styles of dress reflect basic qualities of stability and reliability? That is for you to decide.11. The pattern of sharing in tasks and in decisions makes for equality, and this in turn leads to further sharing. In such home, the growing boy and girl learn to accept that equality more easily than did their parents and to prepare more fully for participation in a world characterized by cooperation rather than by the "battle of sexes."If the process goes too far and man's role is regarded as less important-and that has happened in some cases-we are as badly off as before, only in reverse. It is time to reassess the role of the man in the American family. We are getting a little tired of "Momism"-but we don’t want to exchange it for a "neo-Popism". What we need, rather, is the recognition that bringing up children involves a partnership of equals. There are signs that social workers, and specialists on the family are becoming more aware of the part men play and that they have decided that women should not receive all the credit-nor all the blame. We have almost given up saying, that a woman's place is in the home. We are beginning, however, to analyze man's place in the home and to insist that he does have a place in it. Nor is that place irrelevant to the healthy development of the child. The family is a co-operative enterprise for which it is difficult to lay down rules, because each family needs to work our its own ways for solving its own problems.Excessive authoritarianism has unhappy consequences, whether it wears skirts or trousers, and the ideal of equal rights and equal responsibilities is essential not only to a healthy democracy, but also to a healthy family.16.
