2. multiply ['mʌltɪplaɪ] vt. 乘；使增加；使繁殖；使相乘vi. 乘；繁殖；增加

1）multiply by sth乘以: Three multiplied by four makes twelve. 3乘以4得12。

multiply sth by sth : Multiply the height by the width to determine the area.长乘宽得面积

2）multiply sth ⇔ up增加…数量

The costs have been multiplied up many times.费用已增加了许多倍。

3. envy ['ɛnvi] vt. 嫉妒，妒忌；羡慕

1）the envy of令人嫉妒〔羡慕〕的人〔事物〕

His many talents were the envy of all his friends.他多才多艺,所有的朋友都羡慕他。

Their beautiful garden is the envy of all the neighbors.所有邻居都羡慕他们的花园。

2) envy at v-ing在…方面羡慕

Someone envied at your learning English so easily.有些人羡慕你学英语这样不费力。

They envied at her breaking the record of 100-metre race.他们羡慕她打破了百米赛跑的记录。

4. bother ['bʌðə] vt. 烦扰，打扰；使……不安；使……恼怒vi. 操心，麻烦；烦恼

1）bother about sb/sth担心(=worry)

There is nothing the matter; I wish you wouldn't bother about me.不要紧,请别为我操心。

She never bothered about clothes.她从不为穿着烦心。

2）get into bother陷入麻烦

Don't get into such a bother about small matters.不要为这些小事而操心。

The captain was always devising how to get into a bother.船长总是设法找麻烦。

4. distinguish [dɪ'stɪŋɡwɪʃ] v. 区分，辨别

1）distinguish between sth辨别,识别(两者)之间的不同

People who can't distinguish between colors are said to be color-blind.不能辨别颜色的人称为色盲。

We can distinguish between gold and silver.我们能区分金和银。

2）be distinguished for因…而出名（=be famous for）

He is distinguished for his sense of humour.他以其幽默感著称。
