We swept, vacuumed, wiped down tables, and picked up every last scrap of litter we could find. I didn't realize how satisfying it would feel to make such a difference in how clean a place looked.The bathrooms were maybe the worst of all. I don't want to go into too many details, but let's just say there were some pretty nasty things on the floors that I never want to see or touch again! Luckily the custodians took care of those really bad spots, but even then, the bathroom stalls and sinks were caked with who knows what. We scrubbed and scoured until you could finally see your face in those mirrors.We didn't stop there though. My group split up further to hit all the smaller areas around school -- the teachers' lounge, lockerrooms, dugouts, everywhere. We even picked up litter that had accumulated along the edges of the outdoor fields and parking lots. After nearly six hours of hard work, we had filled over 50 huge garbage bags! My arms felt like noodles from all that lifting, bending and carrying.When we hauled our final load of trash and recycling to the front of the school for weighing, I couldn't believe how much we had collected. Our class ended up bringing in the most of any grade! Mr. Roberts was beaming with pride as he inspected the mountains of trash bags.
