I. Rewrite the following sentences according to the requirement (10x1′=10′).

II. Correct the errors in the following sentences (5x3′=15′).

4.I lost some important documents and found them three days later. The police had helped me.

5.Looking out of the window, the grassland stretches as far as the eye can reach.

III. Read the following paragraph and underline the topic sentence (5′).

We now have, as a result of modern means of communication, hundreds of thousands of

words flung at us daily. We are constantly being talked at, by teachers, preachers, salesmen, public officials, and motion-picture sound tracks. The cries of advertisers pursue us into our very homes, thanks to the radio—and in some houses the radio is never turned off from morning to night. Daily the newsboy brings us, in large cities, from thirty to fifty enormous pages of print, and almost three times that amount on Sunday. We go out and get more words at bookstores and libraries. Words fill our lives.

IV. Rearrange the following numbered sentences so that they will read logically. Put the numbers in proper sequence in the boxes provided below (15′).

1.First, plant the seeds of more delicate plants indoors in March or early April.

2.Next, since frost will not damage hardier seeds when they are in the ground, plant turnips,

beets, peas, onions, lettuce and most other greens as soon as the soil is workable.
