Clearly one of the best ways to prepare for the Speaking part of the Preliminary English Test (PET) is to speak in English as often as possible. However, you can also help to prepare yourself by finding out as much as you can about the test in advance so that you know what to expect and can avoid any surprises.Test overviewThe Speaking Test is 25% of the marks for the whole PET exam. It takes between 10 and 12 minutes and is in four parts. You will usually take the test with one other candidate. However, if there is an uneven number of candidates at your centre, the final Speaking Test will be a group of three (rather than two) and will last slightly longer. There will always be two examiners. One of the examiners will give you the instructions during the test. The other examiner will just listen.Tips:·Practise your English, in and out of the classroom, as much as you can.·Listen carefully to the examin er's questions.·Ask the examiner if you don't understand what you have to do.·Speak clearly so that both examiners and your partner can hear you.·Remember that both the examiners want you to do well in the test. What each part involvesPart 1The test begins with a general conversation. The examiner will ask you questions about yourself, your daily routines, what you like and dislike etc. You and your partner will be asked questions in turn and you do not need to speak to each other at this stage. During this part of the test you will be asked to spell your name. This conversation will test your ability to talk about everyday things. If you are nervous before the test, the conversation should help you to relax, as you will be talking about yourself using language you know well. You only need to give short answers but try not to give one-word answers in this part. You should try to give longer answers with reasons and examples. Don’t prepare your answers before the test as these will not sound natural and you may not answer the question you have been asked.Tips:·Talk to the examiner, not your partner.·Try to give more than one-word answers[ sample material Part 1]Part 2In this part of the test the examiner will describe a situation. They will then give you a sheet with pictures and will repeat the instructions while you look at the pictures. The pictures are to help you to think of ideas and to start the discussion. In this part of the test you must talk to your partner. You will need to say what you think are good ideas and talk about the pictures which the examiner gives you.You will be assessed on your ability to take part in the task. You will need to discuss the ideas fully with your partner, using the pictures to help you. You should not come to a quickconclusion as you may lose opportunities to show your language skills.Tips:·Talk to your partner, not the examiner.·Ask your partner questions.·Listen to your pa rtner's answers and look at them to show you are interested in what they are saying.·Give your partner a chance to speak too.[ sample material Part 2]Part 3In this part of the test, you and your partner are each given a colour photograph to describe. These photographs will show everyday situations and you will both be asked to give a simple deion of what you can see in your photograph. Both photographs will have a similar topic; the examiner will explain what this is. (This topic will be used to start the conversation in Part 4.)In this part you can show the vocabulary you know and speak for a longer period. However, your deions will be simple and you only need to describe what you see in your picture. You should describe the people and activities in your photograph as fully as possible. You should imagine that you are describing the photograph to someone who can’t see it, naming all the objects and including detail such as colours, people’s clothes, time of day, weather, etc.If you do not know a word, this does not matter. You should try to describe the object in a different way and you will be given marks if you are able to do this.Tips:·Talk about everything you can see in the photograph.·Try to paraphrase if there are words you don't know.[ sample material Part 3/4]Part 4In this part of the test you will speak with your partner. The examiner will first tell you what you need to do. The conversation will start using the topic from Part 3.You will need to talk together, deciding when to let each other speak, when to ask questions and when to ask for opinions. If, at any time during the test, you don’t understand something, you should ask the examiner or your partner to repeat what was said. You will not lose marks for this.Tips:·Talk to your partner, not the examiner.·Ask your partner questions.·Listen to your partner's answers and look at them to show you are interested in what they are saying.·Give your partner a chance to speak too.。

2020KET剑桥英语考试口语-...A2 Key Speaking testWatch the video of Sthefany and Fayza doing an A2 Key Speaking test and read the examiner comments below. The Speaking test lasts 8 to 10 minutes. You will take the test with another student. There are two examiners.Part 1 (3–4 minutes)The examiner will ask you and your partner some questions. These questions will be about your daily life, free-time activities, likes and dislikes, past experience and future plans. For example, you may have to speak about your family, hobbies or home. The examiner will also ask you a ‘Tell me something about …’ question (for example, ‘Tell me something about the food you like’), and you should give a longer answer (say two or three things about the topic) with some detail if you can.Part 2 (5–6 minutes)In Part 2, Phase 1, you and your partner will talk to each other. The examiner will give you a task with five pictures on it related to one particular topic and will ask you to discuss these activities, things or places. You and your partner should talk about the different activities, things or places, saying what you like or don’t like about them, and giving reasons for your opinions. You can also ask and answer questions of each other. Then the examiner will ask you one or more questions about the activities, things or places. In Part 2, Phase 2, the examiner will ask two more questions on the same topic that you talked about in Phase 1.How the examiners assess your speakingThere are two examiners in the room. The interlocutor speaks to you, and the assessor just listens. As you do the test, the assessor listens to you and thinks about:Grammar and VocabularyHow well you can use grammar and vocabulary in the tasks.PronunciationHow clear your pronunciation of English is and how easy it is to understand you.Interactive CommunicationHow well you communicate with the examiner and your partner by asking and answering questions. The interlocutor focuses on your Global Achievement. This is about your speaking in general: how well you can communicate in everyday situations and how clear you are.1When your test is complete, the examiners give you marks for each of these things: Grammar and Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Interactive Communication and Global Achievement. The marks are for what you do over the whole Speaking test, not for each part of the test. The examiners give you marks for your own performance –they don’t compare you with the other candidate.Comments on the test videoPart 1Sthefhany FayzaSthefhany gives good answers to most of the questions she is asked. When the examiner asks, ‘Please tell me something aboutone of your friends’ she gives a rather short answer: ‘My friend is friendly and po lite.’ It is better to give more detail in your answers in this part. When the examiner asks her, ‘Where did you meet your friend?’ Sthefhany seems not to understand, but she doesn’t ask for repetition. If you don’t understand, ask the examiner to repeat o r say, ‘I don’t understand.’ The examiner will then ask you the question in a different way to help you.Generally Sthefhany can talk about everyday situations, making some grammatical errors, but she can be understood. Her pronunciation is clear. Fayza gives good, full answers to almost everything she is asked. When the examiner asks, ‘Please tell me something about the things you like doing at home at the weekends’ Fayza gives some good detail: ‘At the weekend sometimes I like I still in my bedroom and re ading something.’ But when she is asked about computer games, she just answers, ‘No.’ You should always try to give some detail when you answer the questions in this part.Although there are a few mistakes, Fayza has some good control of simple grammatical forms and uses vocabulary to talk about everyday situations. Her pronunciation is clear.Part 1 tipsPractise giving information about yourself (your name, where you come from).Practise giving longer answers about your daily life, your interests, etc.Tr y to answer the examiner’s questions with more than one word. You can give short answers, but it is good to give somelonger answers too. When answering the ‘Tell me something about’ question, try to add more information or give reasons. Imagine you have b een asked ‘Why?’2Part 2 Sthefhany FayzaSthefhany comments on some of the options briefly and sometimes with difficulty, but keeps going. It is important to keep trying even if you find it difficult. When asked whether she thinks the food in college is expensive, she gives a very natural answer: ‘To be honest, in the college the food is very horrible. I don’t like’ and then asks her partner, ‘What do you think?’ This demonstrates her ability to comment and interact well with her partner.Sthefhany sometimes makes mistakes (‘Maybe I like eat outside in the park’ should be ‘Maybe I like eating outside in the park’), but her meaning is clear. Fayza comments briefly on some of the different places to eat, giving reasons why she likes them at the end of this part.Fayza gives a good, long answer in response to her partner’s question, ‘What do you think?’ She says: ‘I have breakfast in my home so I don’t eat anything in my college or in my work.’ It is good to try to give long answers. She makes some mistakes (‘When I be quickly’ should be ‘When I am in a hurry’), but her meaning is clear.Part 2 tipsThink about why you like certain food, places, music etc.Practise by asking your friends and family what they like, and why, about a range of familiar topics.Remember the examiner does not know how much Englishyou know, so you have to show him or her by speaking a lot.OverallSthefhany FayzaGrammar and VocabularySthefhany’s grammar and vocabulary are not alwa ys accurate and there are errors, but we can generally understand her. Grammar and VocabularyFayza’s grammar and vocabulary are generally accurate and although there are a few errors, what she says is generally clear.3Pronunciation Sthefhany speaks clearly enough so we can understand her.Interactive CommunicationShe interacts well throughout the test with both her partner and the examiner. She has some difficulty but does not need any help or support from the examiner.Global AchievementSthefhany communicates well during the whole test with a little hesitation. PronunciationShe speaks very clearly and it is easy to understand her.Interactive CommunicationFayza interacts well, asking and answering her partner’s questions. She also interacts very well with the examiner. She doesn’t have any difficulty and she doesn’t need any help or support from the examiner.Global AchievementFayza communicates well during the whole test.ScoresSthefhany FayzaGrammar and Vocabulary 3 4Pronunciation 3 4 Interactive Communication 3 4 Global Achievement 3 44。

However, it is important for pet owners to be responsible and ensure that their pets do not disturb or harm others.5. Is it better to adopt a pet or buy one from a store?
