Here we’ve rounded up 4 of his best paintings before the show,Potato EatersPotato Eaters was Van Gogh’s first major work and, despite a distinct lack of colour, it was one that he was most proud of. His aim was to represent the difficulties of country life, so the farmers are panted in earthy tones with rough faces and bony hands. He was more concerned with conveying his message than achieving technical perfection in this painting.IrisesVan Gogh finished almost 142 pieces during his stay in the Saint Remy de Provence asylum(精神病院)where he was a voluntary patient from 1889 to 1890. This piece was started shortly after he arrived there. The hospital garden provided much inspiration for the artist during his stay there. Originally, the flowers in this work were painted purple but the red pigment(色素)faded over time and has now turned blue.Cafe Terrace at NightDespite being painted more than 130 years ago, this cafe still exists in France and has since been renamed the Cafe V an Gogh. This artwork marks the first time Van Gogh’s famous post-impressionistic star-filled sky was seen in a piece, and it was painted on the ground, in person, rather than from memory. While the artwork doesn’t bear his signature, it’s widely known to be Van Gogh’s, as he mentioned Café Terrace at Night in a number of his letters.Wheat Field With CypressesThis piece was inspired by the view from Van Gogh’s asylum window and was finished on the spot. The work was the title of three paintings that offer an insight into his stay at the hospital. Van Gogh was so pleased with the summer landscape that he made three copies there, one of the same size-which hangs in the National Gallery and two smaller copies which he planned to gift to his mother and sister.4.Which painting did Vincent van Gogh take most pride in?A.Irises.B.Potato Eaters.C.Cafe Terrace at Night D.Wheat Field With Cypresses.5.What is the original color of the flowers in Irises?A.Purple.B.Blue.C.Red.D.Yellow.6.What do the last two paintings have in common?A.They were the same in theme.B.They had more than two copies.C.They were sold by the artist.D.They were painted on the ground.(2022秋·浙江·高三天台中学校联考一模)From Antarctica to Alaska, our expedition cruises—operated through our alliance with Lindblad Expeditions—bring you to some of the most remote and unspoiled places on the planet.A Circumnavigation of IcelandAlaska Inside PassageEaster Island to TahitiPrices vary with departures.Click here to reserve or call 1-888-966-8687. 7.Which destination is suitable for a birdwatcher who is fond of diving ? For example: “T asked her if I could take her car.” “I asked her whether I could take her car.” “She asked me if I spoke French.” “She asked me whether I spoke French.” “She asked if I liked it.” “She asked whether I liked it.” However, there are many other cases when it is only possible to use “whether”. Let’s see a few examples.“Whether”We use “whether” (and an infinitive with “to”) after the verbs “know” “ask” and “wonder” when there are two or more alternatives or options. For example: “I don’t know whether to go to the cinema or whether to go to the theatre.” It isn’t always necessary to mention the second “whether”. So, we could say the previous sentence like this: “I don’t know whether to go to the cinema or(whether) to go to the theatre.” You can also use “or not” instead of mentioning the other option: “I don’t know whether to go to the cinema or not.” We always use “whether” if there is a preposition: “We were thinking about whether we should go early or late.” And we often use “whether” when it is followed by an infinitive with “to”: “I was wondering whether to tell you or Steve.”“If”It is NOT possible to use “if” when there are two alternative options, particularly with expressions like “I’m not sure”, “I don’t know” and “wonder” plus an infinitive with “to”. For example: “I’m not sure whether to go to France or Italy.” It is NOT possible to say, “I’m not sure if...“I don’t know whether to tell Michael or Sam.” It is NOT possible to say, “I don’t know if...“I’ve been wondering whether to go by train or plane.” It is NOT possible to say, “I’ve been wondering if... 22.The text is mainly intended for students with ________ problems.A.reading B.grammar C.writing D.listening23.Which of the following is acceptable according to the text?A.I wonder if he is a fan of pop music or not.B.I’m not sure if Sarah will lecture now or later.C.I don’t know yet if I’ll make it to Henry’s party.D.I often get asked about if you can ride if you are overweight.24.How does the writer explain the usage of “whether” and “if”?A.By giving definitions.B.By giving examples.C.By making quotations.D.By analyzing cause and effect.(2022秋·浙江·高三校联考一模)If you are ready to take your water adventures, the touring kayak (皮艇) may be for you. Getting a good night’s sleep is not only directly related to how we feel the next day, but to our long-term health as well. Still, many of us suffer from at least occasional insomnia(失眠). Evenmore of us report at least one night of restless sleep per week that leaves us feeling ill and irritable. This is a serious problem. If you think otherwise, consider this. People who sleep four hours or less per night are twice as likely not to survive in six years as those who sleep the normal eight hours or so.Given the seriousness of sleep, how can we make sure that we rest well and stay healthy? While there are no one hundred percent reliable methods, here are some suggestions from sleep experts. If you do have trouble sleeping and these methods don’t help, it’s important that you see a doctor before insomnia causes your health to suffer. Start with these suggestions, though.●If you can’t sleep in the middle of the night, don’t get up. Exposing yourself to bright light will affect your body clock and worsen your insomnia.●Avoid naps(小睡), except for a brief ten-to-fifteen-minute nap between 2:00 and 4:00 pm.●Get regular exercise each day, but finish at least six hours before bedtime. Exercising in the evening can help keep you awake.●Take a hot bath for thirty minutes within two hours of bedtime. The bath will warm you, relax you, and make you feel sleepy.●Keep your bedroom dark, quiet, and well ventilated(通风的).●Keep a regular schedule seven days a week. Sleeping late on the wee kends can lead to insomnia during the week.●Get at least half an hour of sunlight within thirty minutes of waking. Without the sunlight, your body doesn’t know it’s awake.●Keep the face of the clock in your bedroom turned away, and don’t find out what t ime it is when you awaken in the night.Pleasant Dreams!21. How many times have you thrown away a photo? We, the Fine Photograph Club, can help you. We meet every Wednesday in our comfortable club room in Bridge Street. At 7:30 pm a member of the club or a visitor would give a talk, and then we have coffee. Our members will advise you on all the latest cameras and films. They will help you to develop your films or enlarge your pictures. What does it all cost? Only 5 pounds a year.Photography is now a big business. Do you know, forinstance, that there are 15 million cameras in our country? And that 700 million photographs are taken a year, more than one-third of them in colour? Think of the amount of photography in television, the cinema, newspapers, books, advertisements and so on. In modern life people learn a lot from pictures, so photography is more and more important. It is also more complicated and more expensive than it used to be. You may only want to take good photographs of faces and places. If so, we can help you to get better results. You needn’t waste any more money. If you want to learn more about photography and how it is used, join the club please. You won’t be disappointed.

Founded in 1904, the subway system has a rich history and is famous for its iconic map designed by the famous graphic artist, Massimo Vignelli. The subway system consists of four main lines – the A, B, C and D lines – that snake through the city, connecting Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. Each line has its own unique color on the map, making it easy for riders to identify their route. The subway system is known for its efficiency, with most lines running every few minutes at peak times. However, like any other mass transit system, it faces challenges. One of the biggestchallenges is overcrowding during rush hour, which can make it difficult to board a train. In recent years, the subway system has undergone significant improvements. New stations have been built and older stations have been renovated, making the system more accessible and comfortable for riders. In addition, new technology has been implemented to improve service, such as real-time arrival information displays at stations and automated ticket machines.Despite these improvements, there are still issues that need to be addressed. One of the most pressing issues is the state of the subway’s aging infrastructure, which is in need of repairs and upgrades. Another issue is the high cost of rides compared to other cities.Overall, the New York City subway system remains a crucial part of the city’s transportation network, connecting people to their daily destinations and playing a vital role in the city’s economy. 1European Day of Languages falls on 26 September. BBC News Online reported the attitudes across several European Union countries to languages.Tamsin Smith, Rome, ItalyItalians attach very high importance to language learning, particularly English. Twenty years ago it was quite difficult to find an English speaker here but today it is quite easy. The strong influence of American and English culture helps young people to learn the English language. They often become familiar with it through Harry Potter books or Disney movies. English schools, where Italian children are taught all their lessons in English, are also becoming popular among rich Italians.Lucien Libert, Paris, FranceLanguages are very important in France. A good knowledge of the English language is necessary for many Frenchmen to get a good job and the more languages you can learn, the better.

Asouthern Alaska kicked off Fat Bear Week, when fans compare before and after photos of bears to vote for the one they think has gained the most weight before they bed down for the long freezing winter. Bear 747, also known as “Bear Force One”,took the firstplace spot with 68,105 votes. It weighed around 1,400 pounds.Fat Bear Week started in 2014. At first, it was just Fat Bear Tuesday. Mike Fitz, a former park keeper at Katmai, noticed that live webcams showing the bears generated a lot of online comments, so he let people vote for their favorite fat bear on the Internet. The oneday event attracted 1,700 votes. In 2015 , it was extended to a week. Last year, nearly 800,000 people got involved, turning it into a global campaign. The contest serves two main purposes. First, some of America's national parks are in remote and undeveloped areas, which are difficult or costly to reach. Fat Bear Week brings Alaska's wilderness to fans' computer screens. “ It's not limited to the fortunate few who can go to the river anymore,” Fitz said.Second, Fat Bear Week brings attention to the bears and the ecosystems they live in. “ The 2,200 bears of Katmai are strong for feeding on some of the healthiest salmon (三文鱼) in the world,” said Sara Wolman, a former park keeper. Salmon in the Pacific Northwest are suffering from overfishing, dam construction and warming rivers due to climate change. Luckily, Brooks River, which Katmai's bears like to fish in, has been free from these threats so far.Fat Bear Week has spread like viruses. Fans and creators say it's because it shows a conservation success story. For one week, people don't have to focus on climate change or habitat loss. “ Maybe things aren't super great all the time in the world,” said Felicia Jimenez, who is a current Katmai keeper. “ But there are some really fat bears in Alaska.
