没有全省公开招生的生源优势，没有发达的城市经济条件，衡中坚持着“追求卓越”的校训，凭借完善的管理、师生的辛勤，高考成绩、升学率连续9年稳居全省榜首，被评为“中国百强中学”、“中国十大名牌中学”。
2008年学校更是取得了惊人的成绩：河北省高考文科前五名、理科探花均出自衡中，60名衡中学子被北大、清华录取，1600多名学生升入重点大学，数十人在文体、科技、奥赛等各类竞赛中荣获省级以上奖励。
2006年，我从衡中毕业，来到广州开始了大学生活。
转眼匆匆三载已过。
但心灵澄静的时候，我常常会想起的还是我的衡中生活，那是我最宝贵的一段经历。
衡中对于我，不仅仅是一座通往理想大学的阶梯，更是一口永不枯竭的精神之源。
三年中，她教给我的点点滴滴不但没有随着时间的流逝而沉寂，反而像陈酒越酿越香。
效率至上“生命是有限的，它不能被延长，但可以被丰富。
”这是每个学生进入衡中后都会学到的一课。
由于衡中是寄宿制学校，学生的学习、作息时间都由学校统一管理：早上五点半起床，晚上十点十分熄灯，中午还有两个半小时的吃饭、午休时间。
大家能够自由支配的学习时间是非常有限的。
于是衡中的学生们学会了挤时间，做事提高效率。
例如：每天早操和午操前站队准备的时间，或者中午和晚上打饭排队的时候，很多人都会拿上特意准备的记忆卡背上几个单词或是读上一首小诗，每天积累一点，三年下来高中课本上的英语单词和语文背诵篇章就能够轻松搞定了；衡中的每堂课前专门设定了两分钟的准备时间，供同学们做预习回顾，熟悉了新知识，课堂效率自然就大大提高了。
衡中生活很能锻炼人的速度。
早上从起床到开始跑操，仅有短短的十五分钟，学生们要完成洗漱、整理床铺（被子要求叠成军训时的豆腐块状）、打扫宿舍卫生等一系列动作，并且麻利地跑到操场上准备晨跑。
